The Retro-PES Corner

Athletico at home!
Fourth game Vs them this season, only won one, that win was useless since I got knocked out of Copa del Rey

This one matters though,I'm in 7th and AM is in 8th,so a win would secure some ground in my pursuit for Euro Football next season.

Scored on my first attack,2nd minute,a header.
What a start!
Then Athletico answered back with a sweet shoot by Radamel Falcao, that guy might go places, even a Pes cover in the future huh?

25th minute and I almost scored the game of the season

But I got my revenge 10 minutes later,a nicely controlled dribble outside the box,a nutmeg on the defender then a hell of a shot going in via the crossbar.
2-1!
And that became the game winner,AM kept trying but I kept them out.
I'm gaining some ground on the teams in front, but next game is a true test
Barcelona away

Love the turf colour in these videos though.. + nets physics look even better than in 2019 it seems.. Generally lighting looks fantastic. Was the LFP fully licensed in 2013? I remember 2012 where we have got all Spanish stadiums, but can't remember how it was in 2013 then :-)

I liked PES2013 a bit back in the day but i had just converted from the D-Pad to the Left Stick so i found it so so difficulf to master. One thing i noticed in my few seasons playing was that the CPU games were low scoring. Not sure if it had something to do with the Half Length.

I played another game in my ML tester today. There are not many free kicks in PES2008 compared to PES5. But this game Vitesse v Tottenham had quite a lot of fouls, 2 bookings, 2 injuries, 2 fights where the ref had to step in. Great stuff.

Son had to come off because he was hacked down. I had a choice to bring on either bring on Moura for his pace or Ali because of his, well because his Ali. Within a couple of minutes he did this...

The clip doesnt show it properly but Ali played a lovely through ball to Kane to begin with. I like the way Kane then set Ali up. Admittedly the defender ran away but what the heck.

Kane and Ali are slow but their movement is fantastic. Ali was finding quite a few pockets of space just like real life. What they both lack in pace they make up for in Attack awareness.
There's a lot of 1-1/2-1/3-2,I saw that scores have changed a bit since moving up to Top player.
And Real/Barca has getting a gap down to 3rd place.
So either game difficulty and or time.

Your Pes 2008 looks so good G, we've discussed it before, about me getting it on PS3,and from what I've seen on YT it looks and plays really good
Getting a PS2 anyway:)
But would be nice if it's ok on PS3 as well.

Thanks @Vadim
Yes it's fully licensed,I think it's 17 out of 20 stadiums in it.
Quite sure that 2012 didn't have all stadiums,I started a ML a few weeks on it,and my team R Betis haven't got their stadium (ps3)
Yes it looks really good,I think that 12 looks even better.
It's two very good games mate, worth checking out again mate

Wonderful videos, gifs and write ups by all of you! After all this talk I was tempted to start a small ML on 12 or 13, but I think I'll keep serious MLs in both as pocket choices in the case 2019 won't convince me.

In the meantime I'm slowly continuing my Pes 5 campaign with the defaults  .. fantastic, tiring football as always.. I'm in the D2 Cup final thanks to a 0-0 and 0-2 victory against Livorno and one point from the second one in the League.. with just one match left. I need to win to get promotion, but I can only hope they'll lose or draw their game. Tense final of season, all or nothing :D , even if luckily game over is pretty far from me as of now. I still hope I'll rack enough points to maybe buy a single good original regen (I've always wanted to try out true legends like Kaiser, Orellano or Gambino, that years ago I used to not consider because I just wanted real players.. now maybe it's the time at least for one!)
That game sounds so freaking hard man, hope you'll get some more points mate

A well fought 1-0 win away to Valladolid, since moving up to TP I was able to see the game out and win it.
Don't think that would be the case on.profesional.

Then I had Mallorca at home,a team in the lower regions, turned out even tougher than I could imagine,a pretty solid team, tough defense to break down
I went 1-0 down on a auto clearance by my def straight to their striker.

Late 2nd half I scored on a corner to make it 1-1.
Even corners have been better since on TP.
Though I'd had to settle for a draw when my mf Perez was brought down and I got a penslty.
Perez calmly placed it in for 2-1.
Comeback complete.
Still in 8th place after 32 games, one point up to Athletico in 7th.
Both Barca and Real had pulled Away up at the top.
So it's gonna be either of them claiming it this season!

I can't seem to get hooked on gaming as I did many years ago - maybe it's a side-effect of growing up/older - but PES2008 PS2 is becoming a serious threat over here...unlike most games, the more I play it the more I...want to play it. It's got a bit of the toughness of PES5, with gritty midfield battles, fumbles, the stuff @MafiaMurderBag was talking about, added to the platform of gameplay of PES6, which makes a beautiful combination of realism and fun.

But not everything is fine though. My newgen keeper, who was supposed to be a FK specialist (80+ FK acc. and curve), has scored 0 of countless scoring attempts - surely more than 30 now. I'm so thirsty for a goal of his that I won't even allow Jaric to try and score a free kick, a guy who's one of the best FK takers of the entire ML world with a 94 FK acc stat.
He's improving though, has hit the bar twice on the last few attempts. Maybe one of these days he'll finally net one, and I'll get to post his glorious moment here on the Corner.

As for the state of the Originals Challenge on my ML, I'm getting closer and closer to the winter transfer window - which will serve only as a means to give a rest to our squad, since no player has retired and I therefore can't buy any player - and I'm currently 3rd behind Benfica (current champions) and Bayern, but Lokomotiv is creeping in alongside Besiktas.
Finished 3rd on the WEFA Championships' group phase behind Atletico Madrid and Tottenham, leaving Pompy as 4th (got one win and one draw vs. Pompy as my only conquered points). It's clearly too much for us at this stage, we were nowhere near ready to compete with those two teams. Now, we'll face North London White on the WEFA Masters Cup which I believe will be a more suitable competition for our ability.

Our roster survived the wave of matches that came our way in the beginning of the season. 2 seasons ago we had 14 league fixtures to play on an entire season; we were close of playing that many matches on just the first 7 weeks of the season. Remember we can't get players unless one of the defaults retires, so the roster is pretty much the same as it was back then. Though I couldn't rotate that much of the squad without risking losing matches, I was able to keep everyone out of fatigue trouble and they're all somewhat still fresh enough to compete at a good level for the last few matches of the first half of the season until the winter transfer break.
I'm counting on guys like Iouga, Espimas, Ximelez and Valeny (all 38/39 year-olds!) to retire so that I can keep on building this team with more depth than we have now, as I can only truly rely on 14/15 players out of the 28 we have.

Final of the european cup btw spain and russia, i ve scrapped myself into this final by winning both the quarter final and semi final on penalties after extra time.
This time around david silva starts on the right flank as andres iniesta and jesus navas both out with fitness concerns, on the left flank juan mata, and up front david villa with cesc fabregas just behind the lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Ended 1-0 to me with the febregas header in the first half assisted by david silva, the goal is in the highlights at the end
amazing how the GKs are so reliable in this game, and there is no end to end feeling at all, it s just not acceptable for us to keep playing a 14 year old game instead of having a great pes 2018 and such new generation game to satisfy our footballing itches..
Winning eleven 9 LE

@mattmid , the little Argentine may not be a footballing saint like Saint Gary of golden bollox, but he was always more sinned against than sinning as above article documents his World Cup '82 encounter with Claudio Gentile (the dark arts master) proves. I doubt any professional footballer on the planet except maybe another Saint Stanley Matthews, would not punch a ball into a the net, if required.:THINK::THINK:

Next playthrough for me is pes 2013 master league with a low tier team.with updated turf textures and different nets, i guess that s what the game was lacking,

My PES 5 ML with fulham using ML defaults is game over. Unfortunately I couldn't make the budget! Ah. Wish there was a way I could edit the existing ML funds, just one time, so I can continue on. I loved my team :(

Can't you do some friendlies, Matt? Or you'd go game over the same? That's how I saved mine in the first season.

It's lovely to see all sorts of games being played in here,it's been a lifesaver for me when it comes to playing football games,I was more or less getting to be a casual player simply because games weren't that interesting anymore, and,a big relief in my mind, whatever happens in the Pes 19 thread,or with the release of Pes 19 I'm not bothered.

It's a good feeling, and I feel that my gaming has more quality now than before, when I sit down to play it's all about having fun!

Except Pes I've played a bunch of indie games this year.
Inside
Little Nightmares
Firewatch
And of course Nba2k18 (myleague) and F1 2017 (didn't see that one coming)
Sorry for off topic.
And feel free (if ok) to share your shit!

It's re-invigorated my interest in Football Gaming and gave my sessions a new lease of life. Going from one PES to another is like a whole new game and it's like a condensed feeling of anticipation and excitement - I'M in control of when a "New" PES releases!

I feel like I'm happy rotating between WE9LE & '13 at the moment. Gonna install '14 this week at some point and relive MASS!

As far as other games, I'm an indie game mark too but recently I've been on a another classic pilgrimage, Been going through The Resident Evil series. Just finished 2 & 3 this past month. Currently playing MGR: Revengence.

Oh the RE series,I got a Xbox gamepass for a few months and played a lot of the older RE games, especially RE 1,love those games.

When it comes to Pes,it's so thrilling knowing that I have a unexplored Pes 12,and 14 to dig into, and later this year Pes 5/2008 when I get a ps2,feels like the day before Xmas every day now

Guys, i'm planning doing a PES3 option file, with starting transfers from starting 2003/2004 correct.
I'm totally on PES 3 for the moment, but also PES1... Which is unfortunately uneditable in terms of transfers and not on PC, you can only play it with PCSX2.

I'm a "stat-man", so for NIG players especially, i will take stats from WE7 or WE7LE (japanese version) that i've found.

...But i've remembered that since PES 4 which includes full leagues, stats were way better and more representative.
If you take on old option file on Neoseeker or Gamefaqs, you will have 2004/2005 seasons players, and find takes stats converter with the old CM, so less authentic and less adapted to PES.

So on the short term:
-i will update squad from 2003-2004 season, created players, flags, formations etc.

And on the long term:
-i will try to update every players with WE8 or PES 4 stats (they are the same as PES 3) but it will take time... And i've got project for PES 2019: so it could take more than one year.
...But if i take stats directly WE7 Liveware evolution, it should take less time. What's ennoy me is that PES 4 standards are much more realistic.

Why i want to update stats from others PES version?

-Because between WE7 and PES3, every players which aren't in WE7 and created from scratch was totally "randomised" in terms of stats.
Those players doesn't fit at all with their playing style neither with konami standard, and corrected in WE7LE japan version.
PES 3 was the game i've most edited, so you could trust me, or i could give you some screenshots to prove that.

- It's better to have squad from 2003/2004 but with their values not from the past season, but the 2004/2005 season, or the after the Winter transfers (WE7LE j version)

Completely agree with both you and MafiaMurderBag. I had countless of default MLs with Pes 5 yet here I am playing another one and feeling it fresh and new once again. I was kinda frustrated after 2018, but as already said the Retro experience also changed my view on football gaming, and with so many titles to cyclically revive I'm super chill towards 2019.

By the way, I envy so much basket fans with 2K titles. Except from the microstransaction problems everybody often talks about, I often hear Nba 2K regarded as a state of art simulation. Even if I'm not into basket, I played a few games myself with some years ago edition, of course it felt super depth but since unfortunately I'm not much into the sport as I said, I have no idea if this perception is true or not..

I love indie gaming too by the way. But I'm more on the modernized pixel-graphic nostalgia train.

Nba2k have settle their game to fit to 20 minutes matches (5 min x 4 quarter-time), and in the reality it's 48 minutes (12x4)

So, for having a simulation, it's way more easy to calibrate the game with only 2.4 faster than IRL.
On PES it's 10 minutes to 90 minutes.
They should settle the game like in Fifa for 12 minutes matchs standard, those 1 minutes by half could change the game flow more than we think.

I don't think both footies game adapt the flow/success rate when you change the minute by half... I didn't tried to be honest.
Nba 2k doesn't neither i think, i've checked on some french forums (more minutes > bigger score, that's all).

The 2k is a funny game.
You have the Myteam (Fut Myclub) then Mycareer (player career) both those modes needs micro transaction to build a team/player that's good.
You can use your Mycareer guy to play in other online modes.
I don't play either of those,I play myleague,which is a ML,but it's so deep.
You can customise/change everything, move the club build stadiums, hire staff, sliders for every aspect of gameplay etc.
And its truly remarkable.
Love it.

When I play Myleague, since I also love playing player career,I've created myself in the game, put myself in a team on a one year contract.
Here's the sweet thing, since I have the option to controll ALL teams, then if "I" get traded of becomes free agent,I just controll that team.

Also you have the option to controll every aspect of the club's operations,or not,I tend to just play (player lock) and fix lineups.

It's a great game, from casual arcade to SIM!

You can set "game time" to let's say 5 Min qtrs, but sim time to 4x12 minutes.
So that's a key I think having both played and simmed game relatively close to reality.
I play full time,4x12 qtrs, and my player (playing with positon lock) averages around 30 Min a game

I've been forced to change shot accuracy etc when it gets patched to keep it "real" and my scores varies from 90+ to 120 PTS per game,I think on average 105 PTS per game,so very accurate.

It's an astonishing SIM in all aspects, remember Pes 15 when watching other scores being 6-2 and 5-4 etc?
Remember every time I had to SIM,I'd set game time to 5 Min to keep scores down
Very strange by Konami

So you need to change yourselve by sliders for having a "normal" amount of point, that's what i wanted to say: it isn't "automatic" in any game when you change the min. by game.
Sliders are very cool for what you've mention, but it should be something automatic to keep the essence of the game, not only the shooting accuracy but including all the aspect which "accelerate" the process to have a good average of points/goals scored.

It's automatic when other games are played, obviously scores will be different if you play the game on let's say 4min qtrs since it can't replicate that amount of shots/points in 1/3 of normal game time.

It's doable in football games since a normal game score of 2-1 only requires 3 shots.
So comparisons (not arguing) is not really valid.
2-1 score Vs 100-97 in the same amount of game time is impossible

But there is an option to set "SIM length" if wanted,if I'm playing 4x6 Min the other scores can be set between 4-12 SIM minutes.

If I'm bored or if the game doesnt go well on my full length games,I often SIM a Qtr or two then jump back in and play it.
Also a nice feature

It would very interesting to watch the same game altering the difficulty and match time after each game just to see how many goals are scored.
