PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

First of all I gotta say I am positively surprised, that there are so many dads around here. Quite lovely.

As for manual, you guys have nudged me now enough to give it another try as soon as I am back from the holidays. If I can't beat the f*cking AI on professional within a month, though, I'll go back to PA1. My tolerance for suffering in this game is almost used up by the atrocious lack of team and player individuality.

A nice Christmas to everyone.
I only switched this year myself. You'll be fine!
From a personal perspective I can give you small tip - dont go full manual straight away.

Build up and midfield play should click fast enough (providing you will slow down the play) and you should start enjoying games more pretty promptly.

Problems will start around their penalty area as it gets really tight there.
You might be getting frustrated (I was) that you only manage to create few shooting opportunities per match, and when you have them - you kill a supporter on the stands.

So switch to PA0 but leave basic shooting. Or, like I did, go to training ground and practice Advanced Shooting against only a Keeper. Once Advance Shooting clicks (and it didnt take much time for me) it will give you great shooting variety while still having reasonable control.
Im still stuck on Advanced Shooting, coz its hard to sacrifice those deadly low and R2 finesse shots when you get a hang of them.

Anyways - good luck and happy Xmas!

Can you elaborate on what you mean?

Im on ps4. And I play on -1 speed. There is input delay, but as we discussed a while ago, that input delay depends on a situation and is caused by more realistic approach.

When you press a button it starts the whole pass/shoot process and the reaction is somewhat dictated by your body ballance, position, ball movement, your momentum..

If you are in good position, have momentum and ball goes to you for a volley shot, i didnt notice any delays.
But if you're running one way, trying to pass the other, while off ballance, there will be delay.

Same with clearance in your penalty area. If you are trying to clear the ball with O (which is technically a pass), there will be delay, as your fella is trying to be precise and aim somewhere.
But if you just want to whack the ball out and use square - there is no delay there.

Some people like this approach, others dont. Hope I answered your question.
for me there is more input lag on pc in day matches then in night matches

So after playing about 150 online games in Pes 19 (which is a lot for me) I can finally say that Pes 19 is a decent football game. But only on Full Manual or at least Manual Passing and basic or advanced shooting.
The problem for me and the reason why it's only "decent" is that it's almost 2020 (in football game language).
If Pes 19 was released in like 2014 it would have been "stunning" for me. Even if Pes 16 would have been like this years game I would say that it's a great football game but I just expected so much more from football games come "2020" when I was 15 years old and were playing Pes 6 back in the day.
I think it's really hard for Konami and almost impossible to catch up to get to a level where other video game genres are since years.

For Pes 2020 I just hope that they continue the path they are on at the moment. They seem to listen and improve the small but annoying flaws the game has. For example I thought that the square pressing with a second defender was super overpowered when playing against a human opponent. There was no way to dribble past a defender because they easily got the ball from the attacker. It reminded me of the old Fifa's where it was impossible to get past a defender without a skill move. But Konami seem to have noticed that and fixed it to a decent level after the patch.

My biggest wishes for Pes 20 are:

- Better shooting! I'm talking mainly about R2 shooting. In Pes 19 it seems to be almost impossible to score a curler from outside of the box. As soon as you press R2 and square the keeper instantly floats into the air and catches the ball easily, it's really annoying and unrealistic and that GK animation looks ass. Pes 16 was the other extreme. There were so many sweet spots for R2 shooting and these goals felt so damn unrewarding. They have to get to a level where R2 shooting is fun but not predictable. Shooting in general just doesn't seem to be on Ps2 level nowadays. In Pes 6 for example I tried to shoot from the distance a lot. I think it had the perfect balance between scoring a screamer from 30 meters (or sometimes even more) or completely fail and be ashamed infront of your friend because you even tried to shoot from that position. There was no sweet spot and it was just fun to try it now and then from any possible position. In Pes 19 I don't even try long shots anymore because most of the time it's just a waste of possession.

- Better physicality
I think this doesn't need a lot of explanation. Fights for the ball, jersey pulling (which was alread in Pes 2008!!!) better slide tackles. I just wish there would be many more options to defend. How about more buttons (button combinations) for different slide tackles, hard ones, smart ones, maybe even unfair ones where your only goal is to hurt the opponent, this was already in a football game called This is football back in the day. There were two different slide tackles. A normal one with one foot and an unfair one with both feet resulting in a red card almost everytime. Just give us more options and please don't make everything contextual. People are moaning all the time about football games getting more and more like movies where you don't have control or can just control little things of what the players on the pitch do. I think this is because they are making everything contextual nowadays. But why? I wan't to be the one that decides if my player is shielding the ball or not and I would love if I could decide if my player is pulling on the jersey or does an unfair tackle and so on.. Same goes for shooting. Why can't I decide for myself if I try a dipping shot or a rising shot? As long as none of those things is overpowered I only see benefits of this and it would also create a greater skill gap between good and bad Pes Players.

- Better Player Individuality
In Pes 19 there are a few player traits that really stand out like dribbling and (finally) pace of the players. But a lot of attributes seem to be just redundant. Passing for example. I see almost no difference between Toni Kroos and Benzema in passing. Pes 15 was good in that department. Just make passing stats count more. Same goes for physicality. I just don't like seeing players like Pogba or Van Dijk getting dispossessed so easily without even try to fight back . They don't even bring their weight in against smaller and lighter players.

- Better and smarter teammate AI
Doesn't need any explanation. Especially on manual passing they act like retards a lot of times.

- Better color palette
Pes 19 looks stunning at times but unfortunately just at times. It seems like there is a huge difference between different stadiums. In some stadiums everything looks fine and in others the game looks way too cartoony.
I also think that the colors look a lot better and more real in rainy settings. The red of the liverpool jersey for example looks stunning when it rains. In sunny weather it just looks way too cartoony. Also the colors of the edited jerseys don't look good. For example the white of Real Madrid looks weird same goes for the blue of Manchester City imo.

I think if Konami would change these things for 2020 (and I think 1 year is enough to change the things I mentioned) we would be in for a treat.
At least for online gaming. But I'm not an offline player anyway as it get's too repetitive in a short time playing against the AI)

I'm sure a lot of guys in here would also like the game a lot more if they would play online (against like minded manual players of course) I don't get why everyone in here just doesn't play against each other online? This would solve all the "the AI is shit" problems and would be a lot more fun I guess.

Agree with everything you said up above.
I think there are few reasons why people dont play each other online.
Partially its because a lot of us grew up playing ML offline, and even tho its shallow and crap these days, its still preffered mode for a lot of people. Brings back memories and gives people flexibility. They can switch it on and off whenever they have few mins to spare. And as most of us are older, have jobs and families - this flexibility is needed.
I also think a lot of "old school" people (me included) dont like playing online against other people, unless its a friend sittings next to you with a beer.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am mostly worried about the passing/crossing around the boxes because with broadcast cam (which I am not willing to give up) you have something like a 35-45 degree view angle, which in turn creates very odd angles to point your left stick at for proper directions.

I’ll come back with my findings (or failures)

one question for the ps4 users, how s the responsiveness on the ps4, because i get input lag in day matches on the pc version

Ps4 is the more responsive version in my opinion. I have both the ps4 and steam/pc version (played on a decent gaming laptop with a gtx1080 card) and the only real benefit of the pc version is the 60fps cutscenes/intro/replays which i must say look amazing (oh...and the terrific mods). Not sure why, as i use a dual shock plugged in via usb cable, but the pc version just doesn't feel as good (in terms of weight and response...and manual passing/shoot acuracy) as the ps4 version. I reckon the game was optimised gameplay-wise for the ps4.

for me there is more input lag on pc in day matches then in night matches
I think it's because most day matches are slightly more graphically demanding than night matches, depending on the stadium.
You can use Afterburner/FRAPS to see the difference in framerates between night and day. I assume day matches goes below 60fps in your system, that's why you can feel more lag.

If your system is powerful it doesn't make a difference but when your PC is barely playing PES at constant 60fps then you'll feel it.

Most of us here are older and have lots of kids:D so schedule is an issue. We have different playing sched and setting-up "a good time to play" between you and an online friend is easier said than done.

I've found a couple of FUMA guys a couple of months ago and I both unfriended them on Steam now. It's hard to set up a match even though we're in the same timezone just because their free/playing time is different than mine. And when we finally able to set up a good time to play, they're always late.

I might not be correct but I'm not joking.:)

I'm just trying to find a logical explanation to your cause of lag during day time, because it's weird to have more lag on day than night when you have good system like yours.
I think some day matches have lower FPS during gameplay because it's more graphically demanding(because of lighting, maybe). It can cause more lag on some less capable system.

Since your system is pretty good, then it's not applicable to you. We can cross that out, there must be other reason.

Hey guys, does anyone have the US version of Pes2019?? and if so what are the commentary languages available?? I was hoping it had the Argentine commentary, but also thought it had the Japanese commentary as well. Anyone know??
Ive currently got the AU Disc version (which im guessing is same as EU version), and if the prices go down to crazy 60% off status, was thinking of getting a digital version..but with decent commentary.
.

besides eng the us version has french, argentinian, mexican, chilean and japanese commentaries. from the latin american side of things, the mexican and chilean comms are way inferior to the argentinian which is disappointing. from next year onwards i'd like to see them upload commentary data packs to their servers so we can pick and choose and not have to miss out on what particular commentaries we like

I came on here to check if they had the Scottish stadiums release date yet and Konami never disappoint do they? Fucking February  That's only 3 months before the season ends! To be fair to Konami their stadiums do look great and they're miles better than FIFA's but they should not take as long as they do, pure laziness or lack of resources for sure.

You also have to question why they weren't prioritised over an old stadium for Palmeiras that doesn't even exist any more

i just got my ps4 copy, way way more responsive than the pc version, pc version unplayable compared to ps4,

Although you're asking PS4 guys how's the PS4 when it comes to responsiveness, my previous posts are more on "PC night" vs "PC day has more lag". It has nothing to do with Ps4.
Although you're exaggerating:BLEH: that PC is unplayable compared to PS4 in terms of responsiveness, I fully believed PS4 is more responsive. I'm actually very curious why is that?

The last time I have ps4 was during PES17 and I didn't test/compare the responsiveness of both versions(PC, PS4) as they are still totally different game at that time.
Right now, they are on par(graphics, engine), except for responsiveness as many people here says.

Can I ask a favor to you guys? @Lobbedball @Emroth @aussiepesfan or anyone with a 60fps video recorded/phone.
If you have a time to spare. Can you video record(60fps) "pass button" being pressed on the controller and then show the power gauge on the background similar to this:
Then you can upload it on google drive or something and I'll analyze it frame by frame.:D

I just want to know how quick PS4 processes buttons being pressed. If it processes button presses faster, then that's the reason why it feels more responsive.

On PC, when I press the "pass button" on the controller, it takes approx 183.7ms(11 frames) before the power gauge starts to fill up.
FIFA 18/19(PC) is the same when it comes to this.
I know it's not an accurate test because the monitor might have an input delay but just want to compare it.

Thanks mate!!! Yeah I finally found a link on the konami website where you can scroll down, picking your region/version, then go to specs and see which commentary language is for that version. Yes, id love to get a digital copy.. if its cheap, and since I have the physical AU version, I may as well get the US digital as it has the best commentary on it..the Argentine Commentator... don't think ill get it yet though... its only 40% of on US store, where the AU site has it at 68% off.. damn.. wonder if the US version will go further down soonish.

Add to it all our little tweaks/setting/adjustments and you should have lots of fun!
Which tweaks and adjustments?
Btw guys,, why is my club such a retarded affair, u can t search for players, the UI is like it s a game from the 1980s...seriously konami...

This game does so much right but in master league it is badly let down by scripting.

I am going well with Inter and I have now come to a game that the AI has decided that I am going to lose. It is away to Chievo, I the AI do some ridiculous things over the 5 times that I have played this game to try and win it. No matter what I do and I have tried everything from a new formation, new tactics, swopping out players each and everytime ridiculous things happen which always result in Chievo winning.

I am just about done with this game, every game has some form of scripting but most developers manage to hide it fairly well, but Konami have made no effort to do so (in Master league) it is a massive shame because there are big elements of the game I really like. Absolutely no point contacting them via twitter because it just gets ignored.

Defo this game is the most frustrating one, the ai is a joke and half the time I just switch the thing off.

Myclub I just can't get into one bit, I only want to try and get the odd player but with the team spirit thing Wycombe wanderers would probably beat my Messi, Ronaldinho, Beckham etc etc team.

ML is slightly better than Myclub but again the scripting gets to me, I can tell about 20 seconds before the goal comes that it is coming.

FD

This is something I cant understand.. why do people replay such games and keep annoying themselves??
Just keep going. If, every now and again, you get a shitty game, just play the next one.
Is it not healthier for the body, mind and controller, to just let go and focus on the matches that give us some joy, instead of torturing ourselves?

I’m with you. I wish the replay option wasn’t a thing.

In real footy, the manager can’t just replay every game - I treat my career modes like that.

Yeah i never do that. Probably one of the reasons im not that annoyed with this game.
We get some good games and we get some shit games. But once TS goes up the good outweight the bad.
I was nearly relegated in my first season and had to get a draw at least, providing other results would be in favour. And not even for a second i considered replaying anything.

When I started my new ML (only played 3 games) i had a 82 TS,which really is a blessing,I've had as low as 55 before, which was a nightmare.
With that said, not a big fan of TS,they should really scrap that.
Especially since the Cpu is on a constant 99

Okay guys. First and foremost - a very merry Christmas to you all. Hope you get what you want.

Secondly, I think there is a GREAT community of people who play PES with a lot of you looking for a good football game.

Depending on your settings/mode/play style/time you may have found it.

For me, as a full manual player since 2015 I have had my eyes opened to what this "game" is. On its own, its a game that does not give me any joy.

My assertion comes from within 1-2 games of ML and League on PES 17/18 and now 19 since it came live on game pass.
Xbox one. [This is key as I believe there are differences between the formats]
Full manual. 20 mins. -1 speed.
This year is my first year without the distraction of online play.

On the pitch, Players ignoring the ball, Poor player switching. Kills the game.
Outside of pitch, false adverstising and promises, delays, loss of leagues.
(Online lag cheats used to be a big gripe of mine, but I won't focus on this here)

PES is FLAWED.

Yes....those of you who replay games to see if you can change results - I recommend this. Don't just move on. Repeat and repeat til you change that result.

Some of you will persevere and perservere with this game. "I need better players, My team spirit needs to be high. I'm no good. I need to learn full manual"....etc etc. STOP. JUST STOP.

I should not really have to spend at least half a first season in ML building up TS to a level where the game opens up. For me, its a ridiculous expectation.

The game since 2016 does not merit our efforts as gamers. Its what we have and year after year it is hope that carries this game.

I am confident konami understand this concept which is why stadiums that should be present at the start are now being presented as a Christmas treat for February release. Just LOL.

The game wreaks of laziness.

I have made it a rule now to stop playing PES.

[ I don't really want to endorse the other game BUT I am playing similar settings on FIFA 18 at the mo and the effort/reward ratio is just BETTER. Manual controls have clicked for me now in FIFA and I get a great feeling when I score and can accept a defeat. ]

If you are a PES fan...crack on...make suggestions....improve the game for us and the community so we get a better game.

My patience has run out with trying to get this game on track. Folks who falsely promote this game like danielrh need to be kept out of these PES forums and guys like Chris, Emroth, PROTOO.

For the year 2019, the baton is yours.

My New Years resolution : Do not play any PES 17/18/19.

All the best to you and your families for Christmas and the New Year.

Happy Xmas to you too.
And all of you. Its rare to get such a mature community these days.

Personally I couldnt care less which football game will finally deliver and becomes full, 100% enjoyable package. I was never a fan boy of any of them.
But I do believe that Pes is, as it stands, closer to the target. It might sound mad, judging by overall package and the fact that outside of the pitch Pes is still in 90's.
The other game has money and resources, but I believe that community is a huge driver if it comes to both titles. And I think expectations of Pes community are different than EA.
It slowly changes and both communities are slowly mixing up, openning themselves to the other side.
But if you look at the other game comments on Twitter, there is very little that would be related to our vision and our complaints.
Whether Konami wants to admit it or not, offline players and football simulation lovers are still a huge number of their fanbase.
Unfortunately, the other side is dominated by arcade goal fest loving people and it will be hard for EA to change their approach.
I hope both games will get to the point, where it will be really difficult to choose what to play, not because both are crap, but because both are fantastic.
For the moment all we can do is to bang the drum and hope that people like us will be listened to instead of blocked.

Apologies for off topic. I didnt want to start comparing both. I was trying to focus on Pes coz, as it stands, thats where im mainly trying to.... i dont know..... improve things??
Its not going too well by the way - one of them already blocked me...

Apologies. I see in my post, I did not finish this line and it reads wrong :

"Folks who falsely promote this game like danielrh need to be kept out of these PES forums and guys like Chris, Emroth, PROTOO..... give me faith that this will happen in future. Additionally, those who seek to improve the game on PC give me some hope for future PES releases: the likes of nesa, incas, chuny etc etc."

Cheers
