PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

One important thing in recent Pes that's missing is that you can't run with the ball and do quick little direction turns. Look how close Messi has the ball on his foot in real life and he still has an incredible pace. In Pes you can either just run very slow and do fast turns or run fast and have the ball way too far away from your foot and therefore Messi doesn't feel like Messi in Pes and that part was way better in Pes 6 or Pes 13.
Really? I've found it no problem at all to do the fast turns or the quick touches to get round a player - if anything it's a lot smoother and less 'false' than PES 6. I remember in PES 6 you could be galloping at full speed with Hleb and just instantly turn right or left. It was even more emphasized by the 8-direction movement system!

On PES 2019 you can be running at full pace, take your finger off R1 and then ease the analogue stick slightly either left or right and make your way round the player. Provided the player you're using has decent close control it's easy enough to pull off - at times I feel like I can walk through a team with Hazard.

I agree.
Would be nice to have something in between sprint and regular dribbling. Like fast dribbling, where they would run faster but had the ball closer (depending on ball controll and dribbling stats)

That´s a thin line to go when designing a soccer game and the tendency to wreck the complete game towards an unrealistic arcade mess is damn big when you try to translate Messi´s skills to the game.

But that would really bring player ID to another lvl.
Lower players should not be able to do that. I get his point and know where he is coming from. Yes, it is easier to dribble in Pes19 and you can "feel" the ball much better than previously, but fast dribbling is not smooth.
Its start-stop mechanism. On a full sprint you have to release it and do quick turns before taking of again.
What id like to see would be something like this gentleman was known of
1:53-mins, where he was playing for PSG is a good example of what Im talking about
Or 2:11mins - even better example.

Ps. Sorry you have to watch through youtube

There is a walk around it. They just need to put some effort into how to implement and ballance it.
In example - apart of the stats, which would determine can player even perform this, there could be a recoverable, dynamic stamina bar introduced.
(Stamina is depleting when sprinting, and then regenerates when not sprinting. Initial Stamina would gradually get smaller. And in time it regenerates only to certain point when players get tired)
Fast sprint burst or skills would drain the stamina faster and they would be able to perform it only from time to time and on short distances. No arcade mess.

Agreed

I think I wouldn't mind that much about that topic if the automatic tackling against a human opponent wouldn't be that overpowered. In Pes 19 it doesn't really take skill to defend all you have to do is press x and or square and the defenders destroy you. Its so overpowered that if a opponent player lays down his controller it's still really hard (sometimes even harder) to score a goal. They should implement a system that rewards solid defending people. The current one is just too easy and bad players can rely on the AI too much.

Guys serious problems with steam, for some reason some files magically keep getting deleted.

Last week my data file got deleted and I had to re-enter all my user details, set up the controller etc.

Today I just came back from work and the PES2019.exe is missing. When trying to run PES from steam it says executable missing and surprisingly the exe is not in the folder.

Do any of you have the same problem or is it just my steam playing games on me?

Also, any ideas where to get an .exe file so that I can play the game as normal?

Verify your game files in Steam. Do you use a patch? Maybe your antivirus tool deleted the .exe.

Hi majuh thanks for the reply. Yes I am using a patch but just for the correct names (can't even remember which patch I've installed it few days after PES came out).

I think you're right although I don't know why my antivirus randomly decided to delete the exe after all this time.

I've managed to redownload the .exe through steam but now I get a different error: Failed to start the game with shared content, please update these games first: Steamworks Common Redistributables.

Not too sure what it mean but will look for tutorials on youtube/forums.

If you have any clue please let me know.

Thanks.

Edit:

I got it work, what I did was Steam, Settings, Shared pre-caching and untick enable shared pre-caching.

All good now!

Initial feeling is that adjusting directions on manual shots is very sensitive. Basically, to shoot on goal i had to aim ➡️ at goal. Any minimal change in order to go to the corner was going wide.
But I shall practice with L2
The area where to put the stick when shooting is pretty pretty small. Should be bigger imo. I can work with it but there is plenty of room to evolve.
R2 finesse seems better post patch. I could curl some lowly shots from in and outside the box that had the right speed. Like that.

This morning I played a couple International matches, cup mode. I’m sure I found my settings now. Professional, PA0, -1 speed. Not easy at all, and Cpu is not as crazy as in Superstar.
I struggled against Iceland on a 1-1 draw. They played defensively, so it was hard to break their defense.
Next, I won 2-0 against Ukraine, but very lucky result for me. They had 56% posession, 7 shots 3 of them hit the post. I scored from a lucky deflection and a Ronaldo free kick.
Ah, another thing, I actually saw the cpu dribling on a match against Fc Porto. Brahimi made a couple dance moves wich left a smile on my face. Yep, pro is the level now to a more balanced experience.
Higher than that seems too much, stiff and unrealistic.
Thanks to your message I created a European cup and got slaughtered 6:2 by Slovenia. :D oh boy. :SHAKE:

Can you, or any other guys, tell me how the fuck Advanced Through ball works? I mean Power wise. Im confused to bits.
Im only, literally, tapping the button and sometimes its a short through ball, sometimes it takes him a good while to kick (and the target guide keeps going further and further), and at the end he has a rocket through ball! I cant figure out how does the power works on them. When do they kick the ball? Do i have to double tap or something?
Ps. Love my FUMA master league on professional. Constant scraps! Love the way COM is sort of adjusting to your lvl and plays less tiki taka passes. Just scrapped 1-0 win against Liverpool and they were all over me!

Like I said, I believe Professional is the most accurate level right now. I see things I don´t see on other levels, I can play a bit more relaxed, but still have a challenge to break opponent´s defense. Loving it for now.

I am talking about players the matchmaking finds for me with or without filters. I can not make an opinion from some random guys from a leader-board who i do not have seen playing or i do not know ,especially in pc ,if they use farming GP bots etc.
Also for someone being extremely good or really bad, the script/handicap existing or not does not make any difference. I said that in can only affect a little bit players who are close to skill/ability.

The "mechanism" for stats intervention exists already in PES League ,if you read the rules of PES League, except pace the rest results can be flattened in a way so all teams are close to equal. So stats boosting/handicapping can be present in all modes and can not be a measurable value. The same applies for TS.

You can not tell for sure how much and what affects every point of TS. Does it affect something %?,is it flat boosting/handicapping stas? Are these stats the known stats or are they hidden stats like the combined ability stats that where visible before PES 2015? Or some mental stats that where present before PES 2013?

These are complicated issues that nobody knows so we can only make speculations. But it is too easy to make fun on someone's opinion just presenting his opinion so flat as he said that SCRIPTING just vanishes the ball, from the midfield in your possession, and teleports it in your goal post instantly resulting a goal, which nobody has stated until now.

VS com it is annoying cause it makes me feel that i never progress. VS Human i do not have any problem. If i feel that there is scripting/handicapping/boosting that makes the game "unfair" and cheats me secretly or not ,i just do not play online and problem solved.
It wasn't my intention to make fun of your opinion or anything.
It's just that, you said that you haven't seen anyone with a rating below 200 because scripting would help them win some matches so they won't be frustrated and abandon the game, and i'm just saying that there are many people with below 200 rating in the standings at least on pc that i can look on and many with 100 rating also.

So it's not that scripting will help them no matter what so they won't be frustrated. If they're not good enough at the game and have poor skills then they'll be very low in the standings and no scripting can save them.
Skills are still the most important.

But yes luck can also play a role many times as in real life also but i don't know how someone can say for sure if something was luck or scripting or whatever because it's just can't be proven 100%.
This is all just assumptions as you also say. It's a complicated issue that everyone can have his unique views on it and it easily can reach to a point of conspiracy theories as no one can actually prove it and just assumes things.

I just think that it's an easily misunderstandable subject and people start very easily crying out for scripting in a bad match result that they had. There is a big thing in football, both in games and in real life, which called luck. It's a big part of the sport. So everytime luck makes or don't make it's appearance on a match, someone can very easily respond to that as scripting. But it's not that simple, and in the end we can never be 100% sure if it is or not.

I'm mostly speaking about online which i play the most.I understand that offline maybe the issues may be more noticable and frustrating against the cpu but still even then no one can say for sure if a specific cpu play or goal was 100% based on difficulty level,on scripting,on team power etc. It's just assumptions as it's just can't be proven.

All i can say is that in 200 online myclub matches that i had until now i feel that in the vast majority of them the one who won was deserving it in general and maybe with a bit of luck that is needed, but i haven't seen any crazy things.
Maybe in a few matches but they are a tiny portion of the whole thing.
Skills are still above of anything else for the most part,as it should be.

Saying that you can prevent EVERY goal you concede is just wrong.
Some goals you can prevent, some not. There's not only black or white in this thing.
Either in games or in real football.

Yes you can prevent most of them,if you see the replay after and you realize that if you did this instead of that maybe you'd prevent it.But some goals may just come from a perfect play that it's just not possible to do anything to prevent from conceding the goal.

Goals like Mandzukic's bicycle kick versus Barca in the CL final some years ago for example or CR7's bicycle kick against Juve and many others like some Arsenal's great combinations or Juninho's free kicks etc...
That's just when the God of Football speaks and you can't do nothing about it...

You start by pressing the button & then you have to hold it down pressed. Once the circle appears (you keep pressing the button) you have to position the circle to the spot that you are about to send the ball. Then you release the button. When you manage how to perform this its easier than it seems at first. You can apply great spins at passes and you can send the ball literally at all areas in the field. I use this for the majority of my passes. Not only for passes behind the defense ,as it gives you great accuracy on passing. The only drawback is that while you have the button down pressed there is a "slight delay" until you position the circle & the delay will be higher if you intend to send the ball too far away. Which is normal because it takes some time to full the power bar that you mentioned. So have in mind that there a great tool to use for passing BUT it is not so good to use it when there are opponents all around you pressing you because it will take more than a sec to fill the bar & position the circle & there is a big chance they steal you the ball. As you get familiar though, i tell you that it will totally open your gameplay & you will create amazing plays & score great goals. You can use this for crossing too.

Theres no dribbling at all in pes 6 compared to 13 or 19 especially. 3 tricks, fake shot and directional turn. Bare bones.

13 is much better.

And Messi does feel like him in 19 as theres animation for how he runs how close he holds the ball to his feet. We have 3 types actually. (Messi/Normal/Ronaldo style)

19 has the best dribbling system in a footy game wish the cpu would use it a lot more.

I think it works quite well if you use R1 in the right moments.
Like double-tapping to sprint, holding down to sprint a bit slower and if you wanna make turns, leave it, but quickly after moving hold it again or double tap it.
That´s how I dribble around opponets and it works quite well.
With Messi (or any other good dribbling player) it feels quite nice.

What I miss though, is the feature from the other game. To push the ball forward even further with the right stick.

@mj23 thanks, pal. Sounds good.
I can see potential for great far passes now that you explained it. They dont give much of an explanation on how it works in the game.
"Advance through ball gives you more freedom" - wow.. thanks..

The only question i have is - why "aim circle" keeps going further away if i released triangle? Should players not kick the ball if i release it? For short passes i was just tapping it, so in theory he should have kicked it right away.

just started my ML as villa .. in pre season cup i was drawn with milan , moscow and psg. got hammered every game conceding 12 and scored
now first game in and totally different against championship sides as it should be. first game 1-1. second game won 1-0. tons of fouls against qpr..loving t

well... Actualy after you release triangle button ,then your player just launches the ball.i dont know.I believe you just have to spend some minutes training on this untill you get the touch

are we expecting any more game-improving patches for PES 19.

just wondering if i leave the currently discounted pes purchase, whether i'd be missing out on anything til another heavy discount came along.

[sorry if off-topic]

Id say so. Last patch was primarly focused on AI so I dont know if we will get any more of that caliber. But last year Pes18 had gameplay tweaks throughout the year and, sad to say, it was at its best at the end of the life cycle. I even got some red cards and penalties in last few weeks (i didnt have any of those in 5 seasons of my ML)

What level are you playing?
Last night I was on for one more match, kept playing on professional. Defense is starting to make more sense now. It is heavily based on positioning, so some tactics simply won´t work against CPU sometimes. Still, I had my share of challenge. Against England I had a 1-1 draw, lucky result again to be honest. Semi final against France, they scored 2 goals, by stupid individual mistakes on defence. A bit of bad AI and also a lack of my own reflexes to fix the situation. I moved BSilva and Guedes up the pitch, to play as wingers, and France was literally sleaping on the result, it was really noticeable. Guedes had some momentum and he scored the first on a rebound. He´s confidence was high, and on a tense cross he heads it in for the equalizer. France got all messed up, they simply couldn´t cope whith Silva, Ronaldo and Guedes for the rest of the match. Sadly I lost on the penalties, but with a sense of satisfaction for the match I just had.

Then I started a CL with Benfica, same settings. Gotta say I tried the simple settings on tactics and I kinda liked it. Against Ufa, started to look like a walk in the park, but on a counter they scored. I started to push more and more, and scored 2, with a lovely free kick at the end. Next, Ajax on my turf. Game was tight, not a lot of pressure from both teams, but hard to break each one´s defence. Very few half chances, but such an exciting match! Second half I was having momentum, creating more and more chances, closer to goal, so close I could smell it! 86´, and Ajax caught me on my own momentum, over confindent, and I lost a simple ball on my own box. My mistake... a very stupid one, I was actually thinking at the time "ah Professional level is a bit easy after all" and BAM, 0-1 to Ajax. Of course I tried everything to get the equalizer, but time was running fast and I lost the match.

So yeah, just one match at the beginning and I found myself playing until 4 am... This game has something. And damn, if your tactic is right, CPU plays so varied. I can see players looking everywhere for 5 or 6 seconds, holding the ball, trying to find a pass. They do try diferent things, it´s a joy to see!

Downloaded the PES universe classic file, worth it for the kits and the nostalgia alone. I play 14 mins matches, PA1, adv shooting and playing with classic Milan was a joy. Exhibition mode definitely plays better than ML imo. Pirlo was a dream to play with and Shevchenko is clinical. Strongly recommend giving it a go.

Personally, after playing it since release day, I have to say that Pes19 is at its best if you play with a lot of patience (both in defense and offense).
Regardless if you play on manual or assisted, professional or legend, once you slow down and actually play the ball it can be such a great experience!
Defending becomes tactical and rewarding, attacks looks and feels much more realistic.
If you play fast, going from one penalty area to another it becomes arcade and dull after short while.
Most important thing is that Pes allows you to play slow and it doesnt feel forced or fake.
One of the matches i played last night was against one of the bottom teams.
So weak, defensive minded team, against me with my gammy manual passing, shooting and Advanced Through balls (which I had no idea how to use). It was a terrible game to watch. At the end we barely had 2 shot attempts each and somehow I scrapped 1-0 victory. But it was such a great gameto play, which felt so realistic!
I wouldnt like to see it on TV, but playing it was great!

I see what you mean ahah. My match against Ufa was a boring one, really boring. Ufa was happy to sit back and wait for me, and their attempts on attack were very shy, always holding their position. But watching that happening on a videogame is awesome. They managed to score but at the end only had a shot attempt. This might look boring and even broken, or too easy, but this was just one match. The variety I´m getting out of all the matches I´ve played is really satisfying and surprisingly good. To be honest, even not being perfect at all, this might be the best PES I´ve ever played.
Some might argue about player ID, or Team ID, or dribble mechanics that previous editions might have made better. But for me, they were never so close to perfection as they are this year. Fouls are back, the animations are awesome, randomness, ball speed and bumping on the grass (damn I love this), the feeling that anything can happen on every single attack... seriously, PES is packed of great stuff this year and everything put together make this game an awesome experience we didn´t had a long time. For me, sure is a winner.
