PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

I see what you mean ahah. My match against Ufa was a boring one, really boring. Ufa was happy to sit back and wait for me, and their attempts on attack were very shy, always holding their position. But watching that happening on a videogame is awesome. They managed to score but at the end only had a shot attempt. This might look boring and even broken, or too easy, but this was just one match. The variety I´m getting out of all the matches I´ve played is really satisfying and surprisingly good. To be honest, even not being perfect at all, this might be the best PES I´ve ever played.
Some might argue about player ID, or Team ID, or dribble mechanics that previous editions might have made better. But for me, they were never so close to perfection as they are this year. Fouls are back, the animations are awesome, randomness, ball speed and bumping on the grass (damn I love this), the feeling that anything can happen on every single attack... seriously, PES is packed of great stuff this year and everything put together make this game an awesome experience we didn´t had a long time. For me, sure is a winner.
Agree. Gameplay now just needs gentle polish and AI few little tweaks. Like more shots variety (low shots would be welcome). And increase AI player ID usage. Player ID is there. You can feel the players and their skill when you play them. AI just doesnt use that enough.
But fundaments are fantastic and im really enjoying my ML this year.
Its been a while since I had such a various results. Last few Pes games I was either around the top or around the bottom. Honestly dont remember last Pes where id be placed mid table. Apart of the fluke against Liverpool im usually winning against weaker teams while being hammered by better teams. Just as its should be.

That´s what i really like about this years edition (on legendary difficulty). It is the first game that forces me to play real football including clearing the ball in panic or stay deep for counters. Every (and i mean every) other previous game always let me do what i want and more or less i was always dominating the game. The balance is truly great this year, especially when you take into account where KONAMI was standing 2 years ago. If this trend continues, we have a lot to expect - but the pessimist in me prevents me from looking forward.

My sister wanted a PS4 for her son for Xmas and offered me £300 for my 6 week pro.
So bored of pes and fifa I sold it to her and bought the kids fifa19 on switch.
@Chris Davies was right - was about a week :APPLAUD:

For your sake (and ours), please give gaming a break - it's clearly not for you!!!

Its not.
Kids have a switch so ill just play with them on that.
Much more enjoyable.

I just found PES so bland. I was bored and switching off mid game.

Bizarrely I love FIFA on the Switch.

I’m surprised many are really enjoying this. I played yesterday, bored the hell out of me. Put it on the shelf again. Don’t know what people see in this game, the collision system is a joke, running animations are terrible, shooting has been nerfed, heading accuracy still shit, the ball physics got worse, some really annoying animations, and for some reason the game became easier in this new patch.

Opinions. Just because you think that the game is bad, doesn't mean many others can't enjoy it. I really dislike this attitude to push own ideas as objective truths.

Maybe...but is there a football game which does a better job (at least on the pitch)? If yes, please tell me.

Hang on, what you've literally just said is "yeah it's bad, but what else can we do - take my money Konami, gotta play something!" Seriously? I've read nothing but glowing praise since the patch was released - and if it's a bad game, why the hell would you play it?

There's a back-catalogue of excellent PES games that we all love...

Unfortunatly there is a discrepancy between the soccer game which is in my mind (with fotorealistic graphics, perfectly captured animations, lifelike ball and player behaviour...) and what the gaming industry is serving to me. Within these possibilities, i don´t see any game which is superior on the pitch. Please take into account that the experience strongly varies between the individial settings (difficulty, manual controls).

Taking a look back as you said, i don´t see any past PES games which tick as many boxes as PES2019 does at the moment - depending on which key areas you focus on. Nowadays the PS2 games are dated and limited. The PS3 games are more or less broken or arcadey. And if we look to FIFA, ball and player physics are currently too much behind and schematic to translate the illusion of a football game.

I jump in and out of this game every couple of days because i'm playing so many different games and life.. Every time i put it on, it feels so fresh, i absolutley adore the visuals and i understand the gameplay..

But i absolutley suck at this game! I can never score, i can't create any kind of satisfying play and after about 4 losses i turn it off feeling dissapointed like it was a waste of valuable playing time and an unproductive session.

Then i throw on some retro PES and i'm gleaming from ear to ear and it's an incredibly rewarding game to play. I play on the highest difficulty on Retro PES but usually between Professional and Top Player on '19. (Fuck Superstar).

I really wanted to get into Online & myClub but there's just no way i'd keep up.

I think everybody can only speak for himself in this forum. Always adding a disclaimer to underline this is just a personal view will take us nowhere.

Well, I still dont make my mind if I should buy this game or not. There is so many different point of views here and Since I dont have much time to play, Ive become a casual gamer and Im still having fun with PES 2018.

Not for me, started a CL mode to test it and all matches were in daylight.

Game isn't good enough to overlook stupid things like this

Are you serious?! Now that´s weird! I´ve been playing the CL mode lately, and all of my 8 or 9 matches I did so far were at night!

Anyway, been moving between Pro and Superstar. Hardest dificulty looks good for a while, but when the CPU plays an overpowered tiki-taka around my own box at the speed of light I just loose the love for this game. It´s very unrealistic and unfair.
Also noticed the diference between these tow levels. On Pro it might seem that CPU sometimes let´s you play a bit too easy, though in the end, stats are very acurate, and I have to work to actually win the match. There´s also much more midfield play, because CPU won´t super defend, or super attack, it´s way more balanced.
On Superstar, positioning changes quite a bit. CPU is somehow more defensive, and it can cause havox on my defense using only two attackers. It attacks very easily, and it´s very hard to defend them, forcing me to use defensive tactics all the time. As soon as I ramp up the attack mentality, it´s almost always a guaranteed goal for CPU. Also, there´s a bit of unfairness about CPU players strenght, speed, and reactions. It seems more realistic on theory, but on the pitch I can´t see it as that, it´s just unfair.
This is related with the way each one of us play, so for now I´m really happy with the challenge Pro offers, without getting me frustrated even when I loose.

I didnt like Pes18 and really like Pes19. 18 was arcade, 19 can be a proper simulation.

Well, true... I hated PES 2018. I played it for a while, thought it was very beatifull, but so many annoying things! Superstar too scripted, Pro too easy. Lack of fouls, no randomness at all, players not responding to my manual passes... just a frustated experience for me. 2019 is miles ahead, and I´m still amazed that konami delivered such a good patch to finally let us play a proper game. Hope they keep up, there´s still some work to do though.

Yup. You could playe every single game with the same starting 11 as stamina was non existent, zero yellow cards and no injuries. On top of that you had OP rocket shots that were on target regardless of player position, run up or skills. They were fun at the start but after a while it was just not right.
Oh and players never falling, just tripping over the legs of opponent all the time. Those trippings were doing my head in.

2018 was such a dull experience. No fouls, no stamina, scarce collisions and physical battles, individuality at his historyical minimums, horrible team composures and behaviours.. it all felt so "sterile".

As much as I think Konami still has a lot to do, I can equally say that in Pes 2019 they worked and improved on pretty much all that list above, even heavily in some cases.

Oh so well written, mate!! :)

Dont know dude...I love dribling on PES2018. The way you can wrong foot and broke ankles. The way you unbalance your marker without having to use tricks, just with no touch drible.

In PES 2019 demo it dont seems possible. The markers follow you like a fifa, like a mirror. There is no body weight, no physics. Am I wrong? Its been a while I dont touch PES 2019 demo.

That type of dribbling is powerful last year. I hate it because I'm not good at it.:D
My regular human opponent can use it well and had a lot of wins against me because of that dribble move and basic shooting. This year, he struggled with me a lot since he can't do that dribble move anymore and we now use manual shooting. :D
