PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

Anyone else playing a new ML and the keepers are not coming out like in exhibition mode? That’s 7 games now and I’m not seeing them coming out in 1 on 1 situations but when we play a exhibition game it’s totally different.

The variety of CPU goals are satisfying now

I respectfully disagree here. Its one area that still needs improvements. There is no low shots from COM and majority of the goals are still pass+top corner tap in. They just get to the point in more various ways than before.

I’m conceding a lot of long shot goals, headers from crosses and one on one break always. Compared to the released product I think it’s much improved. Of course it could be better but I don’t think it will be in this edition

Oh absolutely. Its day and night in compare to pre patch. But they still have few major data packs patches to bring so they could still make it much better. If one patch could change so much Im sure we can hope for many gentle tweaks before Pes20

Absolute nonsense. You’re plucking these ‘ facts ‘ out of nowhere.

Also, my fanboy detector is sounding it’s alarm. You’re so pro PES and anti FIFA that I can’t take any of your posts seriously.

EA has £50 of my money if I was anti FIFA id give them nothing, so get off your stupid bandwagon.

If you are telling me that you are unable to prevent goals in the game, then why do you play?

If the game has decided that you are going to concede all the time, whats the point?

Or is it totally random? Just in games that you lose by any chance? Just in games that you think you should have won by any chance?

The fact is, you control the input of one team... you can do anything you want at any point. IF the AI is scripted to score, you clearly know its going ot happen, so why dont you stop it? Your brain (i assume, albeit you sound like a tit on here) should be able to see patterns emerge from the AI... so at that point, you know a goal is coming... why dont you stop it? Foul a player, change tactic on the fly etc

Anyone who seriously believes that the game is scripted to make you concede a goal is a twat. If that really was the case, you would never win, never keep a clean sheet and never have anything good to say about the game. OR, or and this is brilliant, the game randomly picks games by chance for this to happen to you :D

Honestly stop throwing fanboy comments around, because thats bollocks, ill call PES shit anyday of the week. But to say the game picks and chooses when you will concede is crap.

Joke, fact.

I don’t think you quite understand what a fact is and seem to be getting it confused with an opinion.

Posted above, I know its a fact.. prove me wrong, show me every goal you concede and tell me where you 'lost' control of your team and players to stop it happening.

Until then, you are speaking shit.

At the same time, post games you win as well, with a clean sheet... with the AI so blatant in its ;scripting' to get a goal, we need to see how you stop it....

Children, children... quite down please.
You're going around in circles and it's leading nowhere!
Just agree to disagree, shake hands and move on! :D

Someone needs their Snickers.

[and you haven’t really bought FIFA you don’t need to make up stuff]

Yes I’ll record every goal I concede for some delusional roaster.

I think enough people have responded to your ridiculous comments to know you are in the minority.

I understand people getting annoyed by an opinion being stated as fact... of course it is just his opinion. But some of the responses have been poor, I don't believe there are scripting issues in PES 2019 and I can assure you that I'm not PES fan boy, far from it! Should also make clear this is just my opinion. I understand I'm firmly in the minority! :)

Any more insults from this point on and there's going to be bans guys, it's getting ridiculous in here. I thought all the childish stuff had gone with the launch of the game, it usually dies down after that...

This game is solid on the pitch, no doubt about that. My issues are still with the tactics and the ai. On too many occasions, I find my comp controlled players not going where you would expect them to on the pitch regarding the att/def situation. Very frustrating.

While not with the strong language I humbly agree with you. What some people call "scripting" (aka CPU cheating) is what i simply see as a attempt to replicate the eb and flow, the story, of a real game.
Yes, perhaps it could be more subtle but at least it succeeds in keeping you on your toes every single match. There will always be those moments when you feel pressured and you have to keep your head cool and dont be too eager otherwise you might get punished, especially againster better teams.

However, at the same time you cant deny defensive control in PES is sometimes anoying and the wrong players get selected or defenders suddenly halt to a stop, etc. But this is a given and ofcourse more likely to happen when you are bashing buttons a bit too nervously which in turn is more like to happen when you are under pressure. Due to this we all feel cheated sometimes.

But indeed; whenever i watch the replay i have to agree that i always, ALWAYS, have a chance to prevent the CPU from scoring. Against less gifted teams most of the time you have multiple chances to break an attack, against star teams you sometimes only have one shot.

So yea, if your opponent has momentum you better be prepared to up your game. And yea, it can be frustrating. I am no expert but being a Japanese game i think storytelling and challenge are in the heart of the series code and without it PES would not be PES. At times its almost as if the game speaks to you: i demand your full attention for the full 90 minutes and only then i will reward you. This does not always feel fair but then again football isnt; only one mistake can be fatal.

The idea that PES is merely an attempt to simulate the rules and physics of a football match is imho false. Next to that, or even more so, it is an attempt to communicate what football feels like and how a videogame should represent the challenge or story of a match, league or cup. I have little doubt that the pure randomness of the physics engine is wrapped inside a more abstract challenge system which influences the TS of both teams based on a set of more or less linear storytelling set of rules.

A simple example of these rulesets, or scenarios, would be: home team gets a boost first ten minutes, if home team does not score after ten minutes away team gets an even bigger boost.
As a player you have to reckognize these scenario's and try to bend them. If you manage to do so, the game will reward you and you will eventually be able to dominate the match with your players rising above themselves, the most fantastic feeling; the ultimate PES high.

But most of the times we, or at least I, will fail to do so and instead the opponent earns the boost and i am fighting a losing battle, still longing for that precious high which every match i get at least a glimpse of, enough to make me long for one more game.. and thats exactly what the "script" is programmed for. Or maybe the script is only in my/our head(s), we might never know ;)

The only times I feel "cheated" in this game are

1. Pre patch - Opponent was having laser guided first time passes, then laser guided low cross and even if my player was around, COM player was always able to stick his foot in and score. That was mostly pre patch. Post patch its toned down big time.

2. Ball in the air, or some mess in my penalty area, im getting to the ball, pressing the button to clear it, but before I clear the ball AI takes it from me and scores. Thats still happening and it is frustrating. It happens less when you clear the ball with Square Shot button, but if you are trying to clear it with X or Circle it takes time and is very risky.
But thats where im going back to my previous post about realism. Animation takes time to complete. Players take time to adjust their body and kick the ball. And as much as it is frustrating, like I said before - im happy enough to sacrifice responsiveness to get realism on the pitch.
But thats just me.

Pesuniverse is releasing v4.0 option file after data pack 2.0 with mls, jleague, other european and american teams and bugs fixing! Its going to be great!!!

I’ve just had such an enjoyable session with my master league save. Slowly climbing the premier league.

Played for 3 hours, I haven’t done that in a football game in god knows how long.

Where is @rockstrongo ? I enjoy his posts.

Indeed, probably he´s one of the most comprehensive and objective guys here. He plays the game for what it is, and really shows what he feels about the game. He´s been quiet for a while now, maybe the game did got better, even for him eheh. That´s a good sign.

My wish list would be:

  • Better goal replay camera angles, watch real matches and see which angles are frequently used.
  • Less general replays during gameplay (or at least give us option to change frequency and button used to skip them should be circle or x not start button
  • Every league and competition should have different scoreboards, banners, ad-boards(even fake ones would be fine), it always feels like I am playing in the same competition every week.
  • Fix timing of cup fixtures, champions league fixtures and league fixtures. I can not stand playing a champions league match during day time, it is such a weird error to have considering it probably can be fixed with minor tweaks.
  • Make sure stadiums have options for turf patterns, some of the turf textures in this game are a joke and make matches look like they are being played on a cow patch no matter how high definition the texture itself may be. Let us choose shades of green.
  • Better camera options (option to lock individual camera settings to certain stadiums, so when I visit Arsenal I get a different angle than when I visit Barcelona)
  • Bring back more team individuality, and make sure teams adjust and react more organically to score lines.
  • Celebrations of goals should be contextual. (Derby goal- stadium goes nuts, players celebrate with extra oompf, early match goal- players react normally, late winner- pandemonium on the pitch and stands)
  • Commentary has been a joke for the longest time, I do not know they would even approach this problem.
  • The menus need to be completely revamped.
  • Stadium chants need to be contextual, no stadium in the world has fans that constantly scream for 90 minutes. Kick Off, Final Whistle, Close chances, major fouls, goals, saves are probably the only thing that deserve increases in excitement in the stadium.
  • Master League needs to sort out player values and wage demands. I signed Neymar for 16m pounds with an exchange of De Gea. PSG already have Buffon and a great back up goalkeeper and they gave away their best player for peanuts. Multiply all player values by 2.5 or 3 times for more realistic values for players.
  • Give us more statistics after and during games. I want to see a running counter of total goals and assists over the entire time I invest in Master League. I remember either PES4 or 5, had an option where you could check all time scorers and assist leaders.
  • Remove the PES transition graphic during matches, we know which game we are playing.
  • Fix the bloom during day time matches and after camera cuts.

Gameplay

  • CPU AI TEAM and PLAYER individuality is non-existent, every team and player you face use the same methods to move up the pitch and end up taking similar shots.
  • Non controlled players in your team are too slow to react to loose balls and close down players or danger zones, the defensive side of the game needs an overhaul in regards to backing up and tracking opponents. It always feels like I need to initiate urgency all over the pitch when at maximum I can impact 2 or three players in my team at a time with a controller. Awareness and urgency are key in both attack and defense and the fact that game is lacking here is what hurts it for me.
  • Offensively, teams are far too reliant on the quick 1-2 through ball. It succeeds because the defensive AI is super unaware and willing to let ball receiver run into space without interference.
  • Low crosses from the wing are only successful because the center backs position themselves in unnatural spots.
  • Stamina system needs another overhaul too, go for the NBA style sprint and recovery method. In PES once your player is out of stamina, that is it. Even if you decide to not sprint or press with said player for 10 in game minutes, they still can not run for more than 20 meters at a reasonable pace. It is insane to see Coutinho in the 85th minute on a counter, deciding to jog up the pitch in a crucial cup match. The players can slow down, but not to the extent where giving them the ball makes you feel like you made a huge mistake. Athletes nowadays are much more resistant to fatigue and recover better between matches. In this game resting Coutinho in the midweek match has no impact on his stamina expenditure rate.

There are other things I wish they would fix, but there is one little thing that they have been doing well recently and I think if expanded upon with lots of care can be an amazing addition. I am talking about the enhanced statistics in all the modes and missions in Master League.

Missions has potential to be a hook for long term time investment in master league if they decide to further integrate them over a potential season and those that come after.
Lets say you pick Barcelona, realistically your missions in the first season should be:
  • Win League
  • Semi-Final of CL
  • Win Copa Del Rey
  • Integrate a youth team player into the first team
  • Defeat Real Madrid at home
  • 5 match winning streak
Let us say you succeed in winning the League and CL now your goals would be

  • Defend the CL crown
  • Defend the League title
  • Reach final in the Copa Del Rey
  • Defeat Real Madrid at Home and Away
  • 10 match undefeated streak
  • Sell 3 players for a total value of 50m pounds
Third Season

  • Make it three in a row for League titles
  • Reach the final of the CL
  • Invest at least 25m in a new player
  • Maintain undefeated streak over Real Madrid
  • Win 10 matches in a row
etc etc.

I would love it if there were rewards tied into meeting the goals.
  • More funds
  • More trust
  • More wages
  • Stadium expansion
  • Facility expansion (more players being able to attain skills at one time)
  • Manager Ranking rises and falls depending on performance
  • Being fired should be much more common if your reputation is too low and the results are not good enough, yet a high reputation might keep you in the job until the end of the season unless team is in the relegation battle.
  • Your first season might be the most difficult if you pick Barcelona and do a Lopetegui, so picking a team with lower expectations at first to build up your reputation over a couple of season would interesting. Even having the option to lock yourself out of the top jobs unless you reach a reputation threshold would be something.
It brings an RPG element to the mode and if integrated to lets say include 500 individual missions over a span of 5 or 10 master league seasons with mission assignments having a random nature but mission progress being organic. It could be a really enjoyable way to keep you going in the ML.

Sounds absolutely brilliant, but Im afraid this is like 50 years plan for Konami...
For the start id be happy to see the league table at the start of the match so I wont have to dig through pile of options to know my opponent standings...

Is there one of the 2 that you prefer?

I prefer the 2nd one (2nd youtube clip i posted)..seems to have a hint of player shadowing created by the floodlighting.
I really gotta give props to Konami in regards to their turf palette and lighting this year... so many great pitches (due to palette and lighting) this year.. so many slight variances. Daylight, night time, cloudy n rain.. many look very lifelike this year. Previously I would have 2 or 3 favourite stadiums that id use constantly... now with 2019, im liking over 80% of them. Seems they have a good formula now, so I can see it only getting better as they hopefully keep increasing the number of stadiums available...

P.S. They need to clean up the language the game uses. Top Menu should be Main Menu, they need to make a better localization effort. Also sorting out capital names, I hate seeing things like "MANCHESTER UNITED are on a winning streak thanks to NEYMAR masterclass"

Just want to stress how low effort the menu design, colour scheme and usability is. That needs sorting too.

No, but I’m not seeing the AI shoot from distance like they do in exhibition. The game definitely plays different in master league.

I’ve hit a brick wall in master league. I can’t win a match.

Anyone been sacked in challenge mode before? I am 16th, owner wants 9th.
