PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

Just lost 2-1 to Argentina in knock out stage. They are tough to beat , even though I missed some sitters it felt they could of scored at will. Could of been 6-6 in the end. Messi is a beast , and dyabla shot from 30 yards and hit the bar. Also most fouls I've had so far with 8

After a few more games tonight, as Newcastle against average-to-good teams and not being able to do much else other than draw, I played PSG.

A) I was 1-0 up within ten minutes. As Newcastle. It was the easiest-feeling match by far. Which makes zero sense. You can say "better teams go forward more so leave more space" but sorry, their quality player-for-player is SO MUCH higher than mine that they just 100% should not be easier. Every 1-on-1 between outfield players, I was winning.

B) In the second half, they scored from a header to make it 1-1 (my keeper not reacting to the ball until it was practically across the line). I scored again to make it 2-1, and within five minutes, they hit 5 first-time passes, midfielder took a touch and turned around, then 5 more first-time passes and a tap-in. 2-2.

C) They had two new players, both of whom are starters in the PL (Kyle Walker and Harry Kane). This was a new ML I'd started, and there had been something like six days simulated (including two matches).

D) Both of my goals were manual shots (i.e. hold the manual modifier button) - because I knew that would be my only guaranteed way of hitting an accurate shot. Lo-and-behold, I rounded the keeper in the second half, on the left of the goal (seven yards out), aimed at the middle of the goal, pressed (non-manual) shoot, and...

The ball missed, flying past the right post. For absolutely no reason. Given how it would be harder to miss than to score from that position (especially with your right foot, and especially sicne the contact with the ball is always 100% perfect), it just felt like a massive cheat.

And then I realised. That's why I feel no joy when I score - because to score you don't have to aim particularly well, because even if you do aim perfectly, it'll miss anyway if it wants to - so it's not me deciding.

My input is essentially a manager shouting "shoot" and then going "I told him to do that, I basically scored that goal" when it goes in.

I really don't get the love for it I'm afraid - but I can also see the definite improvements in the patch, and if you're happy with the gameplay, I've no doubt it'll make playing a Master League season an actual possibility now.

I beat PSG 9-0 in the CL final on PES 18 but regularly got played off the park by the likes of Villa and Brentford.

It seems the harder matches are determined by either session variance or pure randomness, very little if anything to do with team or player ratings

That's what I was saying in the Contrast thread yesterday.
At the risk of coming off as a hater (which I'm not. I've loved, bought, played and modded PES since forever) I get this strong feeling that a lot of people (not everyone, of course) want it to be GREAT because they can't like the other game, so they overreact to the patch, constantly.

I'm 100% sure that in a week, or two, or in a month, they'll start spitting out the truth, the one they don't want to admit now (not to us, but to themselves). We'll start seeing a lot more posts starting with: "I like BUT..."
Until that shy statement becomes "X is broken" or "If only they fixed this on PES 2020, it will be the best game".

And last, but not least, don't play Master League. It's broken. It's scripted as hell. The gameplay is TOTALLY, without a shadow of doubt, NOT the same as in Exhibition Mode. I actually can enjoy the occasional game on Exhibition Mode. But Master League (and possibly all other game modes) are scripted to the point where you just don't enjoy.

That’s the problem for me. I read the reviews regarding the patch and think that maybe I shouldn’t have sold it. But when I remember the overall package and how the gameplay was as a complete whole. I think I made the right decision for me. Couple that with the regional online issues and how it really does feel basic online. I think I’m going to give it a miss for a couple of years now and see if they sort it out. Pretty frustrating though as my current joy for Fifa has diminished. Hoping it’s just a phase thing .

I also think the high praise for the patch is way out of proportion to what it actually delivered. So AI teams now sometimes don't low cross on every attack, goalkeepers now sometimes come off their line, your player now sometimes doesn't get stuck to an AI player's back at goal-kicks...

...these might be impressive improvements if the game was brand new, in its first edition. But this is a very "mature" football game that has been in constant development, with full-priced updates every year, for 20 years! It's pathetic that such basic problems exist and all this "amazing" patch has done is marginally improve embarrassing weakness in a very mediocre, repetitive game that barely evolves at all.

This 100%.
Due to the game changing in different modes I can only play exhibition games.
Played a few with Ajax and really enjoyed using them. Used them in master league and it was horrible and stopped after 2 games of intercontinental cup.
Master league has countless issues but if it played the same as exhibition games I’d try to ignore the mental Transfers but it’s just an horrible all round experience. I love the patch fixed the broken AI but I’m left with just one mode that plays well.

Dear God these FUMA- people are really something special, last night this one guy sent me a message claiming advanced through balls are a cheat. Next time I play Korpen- football (swedish version of sunday league football) I'm gonna ask them not to put a spin on the ball when passing cos it's cheating to us who's not that good...

Only thing I haven't really tested is the r2 finesse shot via full manual shooting. This has been broken since 16 I think (sure it worked well in 15). You'd aim (even using the L2 aimer) at the corner of the goal, but the ball would often start so much wider than where you were aiming, and not even get close to bending back to where you wanted the ball. you'd practically have to aim at the keeper, straight at goal, to have it go into the left or right corner. Ill try in training....

Heres a couple of examples showing how r2 finesse shot is broken when using full manual shooting. Pay particular attention to "L2 aiming arrow" and where the actual shot goes. I did examples for both ingame view, and 1st person view. That's my biggest issue with full manual shooting, hence I rarely ever use it in game:

In game view (practice mode), look particularly at the last shot I did.

First person view (in skills training mode), see the ball go well wide of my intended aiming arrow.

I haven't tried master league yet but there's absolutely no issues with normal league and cup modes. Played a international cup last night it was superb and now started a league. The game feels no different to exhibition mode in terms of AI

seriously if you feel like that then why bother playing a posting. I slaughtered Konami on Twitter but the patch has delivered

Exactly! Takes away such a big part of the game. They can be done in the box when really close to goal but otherwise it's useless.

Playing ML in CSL. I think the transfer bug is not fixed in Asian League. Almost all of the clubs are decapitated with unrealistically small squad size after 1 transfer window. The CPU even put 3 GKs in their bench because they don't have anymore player left.

I started a ML as Ajax.
Went to Liverpool to sign Sturridge but the bars by the players name that indicates how likely you were of signing them were 5/5 for Firmino, Salah, Mane, Fabhino, Van Dijk, Keita. The only players that had 0 was Alisson......and when I played Lfc in the continental cup he didn’t play,

How hard would it be for programmers to put into the game the real lengths of players contracts? With the real release clauses - so Firmino, van Dijk, Salah etc would have 5 years left. Can’t be that hard.

Also signing players is a pain. I go to buy Foden of City. He will only sign a 2 year deal with a release clause - but the release clause is lower than the £8m I paid for him! It happens with every player I’m trying to sign.

The whole mode is half arsed.
Out of curiosity ; did you start with the actual ajax players or the master league defaults?

I think the major difference between Exhibition and ML is the Team Spirit system. It really does make the game random, too random in fact. I'll be interest to see how the TS actually impacting your team overall performance, maybe there is some hidden calculation like buffing or nerfing player stats.

Look, i have not bought the game, not at launch, not going to buy it until it goes way lower in price, so i'm not biased at all, i don't think they deserve to be praised for something that should have been at launch and not two months later, but now after they mostly delivered a good patch, i think your idea that people are desperately trying to defend and positively overreact to this patch because they don't like Fifa is totally wrong.

There are people that easily discovered and reported many issues with some parts of the gameplay that this patch improved since the first E3 videos and reported those issues. Now, the same people report big improvements with this patch. I think it's time to accept that Konami did good. I know some people like you are way too pessimistic and negative towards Konami that they would NEVER admit they did something good, but they did it, they delivered.

I think some people like you should be far more neutral in your opinions. I mean, while there are people that try to find everything good in Pes because they like it, there are people like you that try to find everything bad in Pes because they like to hate. You said it, you are behaving like an hater. It's definitely not a good attitude to have towards a videogame.
Why hate a videogame or behave like you are some kind of impartial guy while the other are so easily influenced and stupid to understand the truth is something i will never understand.

Maybe you're right. Maybe in a week or a month or two I will be saying that it sucks and lacks this and that and the other. Maybe I will toss it away and never come back to it.

But for the moment it is the best football game I have played since Pes13.
Yes, it should have been like that from the start, but Jaysus, they fixed the game! They released a patch, which mainly focused on offline players, who we always claimed they dont give a rats ass about. And Im grateful.

Just finished this match in my ML.

Superstar, 15 mins, PA1, advanced shooting. Most enjoyable game I have played so far. And Im starting to say it more and more often. So happy days!
Ps. Yes, they scored a goal from a Low Cross. But it was natural, realistic and didnt smell fishy.

Oh yeah, should have mentioned. Newcastle is AI. Im recommending having a look at the first few situations, especially first one, where they dribble danced around me and hit the post.

Ps. I should have also mentioned that at the end of the match both teams had exactly the same - 9 shots (5 on goal). So it wasnt anywhere near what it used to be
Me - 15(10) - 1 goal
COM - 2(2) - 2 goals

Latest update is move to the right direction, but still there is flaws which should be considered:

- AI tackles are too perfect. Slide tackle specially. Fouls are here and there.

- Also, would like to see at least one wrong pass from AI.

- Players often does not react to the ball being close to them, just stood there.
It is both for teammates AI and cpu. This really should be fixed, everything else is bearable.

- Penalties. I've got one during the regular time, at last.
On penalty series, AI should be easier. I think that I won one in a 10 of penalty series (top player or superstar lvl).

Think I'll go down the normal league route.

not sure on what level people are playing on but there's loads of AI miss place passes on professional level. Fouls im getting about 8 per 15 minute game - at least 2 shooting chances

Personally i dont see any reaction problems

Not had a penalty but only had 10 games since patch

On the other comment about people over reacting - if people read back certainly on my posts the only real issues i had was the AI and the GK -everything else was great on the pitch. So it isnt an over reaction they have fixed the two main issues what people were raising

I dont wanna come across as dumbo, but im not sure if I am playing with the update....how can I tell....or better still...how do I make sure its installed, please take pity I am very old

Could we possibly see a few videos? I'm interested to see just how misplaced they are (all I'm seeing is interceptions of passes with excellent aim).

On the PS4, I scroll to the game icon on the main menu, click the options button on the controller and scroll down to game information to check what version I have. I have no idea on the Xbone.

Cheers for that mate....what version should it be?

Looks good to me. Will start a new master league today.

@hitmanuk I agree with you, started playing on pro becouse of that, much more missplaced passes especially if you cover the cpu better. Very human like ai in that case, if you play with lower division teams or Scottish, Danish league teams this become too much obvious which is great!
I had a match when old good pes feeling come back, it was derby Milan vs Inter(me), I didn`t changed the tactics at all before the match (using pesuniverse of) and in the first half Milan looked far more superior than me, passes all over the pitch and they press me very hard so I made many misstakes during taking ball out of my part of the field. Then around 40` minute I changed the tactic, Inter were using swarm the box and I changed that to deep defensive line and added gegenpress. What difference that made!!! I was seeing different Inter for the rest of the match, much better defending, better possitioning which resulted for much better game against the opponent. Game was absolute classic, ended 2-2, Milan scored first, I equalised with Perisic and then taked the lead with Icardi`s bicycle kick after good slow build up action. Sadly for me Higuain scored stunning header at 90+2 minute, I just smiled and was happy from what I seeing :)
I know master league on pro will give me more challenge becouse of the team spirit and other stuff but most of the stuff looks good after the patch! I played on -1 speed and full manual. I love this game as it is!

They forgot there's only a pass-support filter and no "shot type" filter on match-making.:D
