Re: Liverpool Thread(I've Had Enough!!)
This season has been a frustrating one no doubt. Our league form has been bad I'm not saying, dreadful even, BUT, I have to say that in a lot of the games this year things just haven't gone for us. In a lot of the games for example Liverpool have started off like a train, forced a few saves, hit posts and bars, had the majority of the possession and scoring attempts and then BHAM, one nil down from the oppo's first attack! It's been like this for a while and this obviously has an effect then on confidence. For a team like Liverpool who have a large core of new players going behind then becomes like an Everest climb.
Kenny needs to decide on a system and fast. I think at the moment he is 'twixt and 'tween between a whole bunch of things. This is where my criticism of him comes from. If he is going to die on his sword this year or next the he at least has to go out doing 'some' kind of style.
If you have Carroll up front then the problem becomes a width one. Downing is a good player, but that's all. He drifts inside too much when he should be doing his job - ie, crossing the f'kin thing. Then we don't have a natural right winger, we use Henderson (who is shit period) or Kuyt, who has tremendous virtues but a winger he is not. We could deploy Bellamy but then he just gets lost out there.
So, if he wants Carroll up front with Suarez off him then he needs to find two winger, by-line crossers, and that's all they do all day. You play this system enough and it will work, it may be a little route one-ish, but it's the tools we have.
Or, we can try and play an intricate game, but then there's no room for Carroll and you need a technical tactician next to Suarez.
I've been a big Gerrard fan for years, even bigging him up on the other discussion thread. BUT - Dalglish has to sort of the midfield problem. The problem with Stevie is that he embodies a club in his entirety, players come in playing some great stuff from other clubs (Adam) but then they are forced to play a certain way to compensate Gerrard and other square pegs in round holes - again think, Henderson, Kuyt etc.
Skrtel I believe is a liability. Coates just doesn't look co-ordinated enough (I may be proved wrong), Spearing has work rate and nothing more, Shelvey just looks and probably plays like my local plumber, and Carragher's days are numbered. Christ even Enrique is looking fatter and slower than last year, and Flanagan looks like a puff of wind could knock him over and even Reina looks a bit average.
In short - we're f'ked.
We need top class defenders in for a start. We need to sort out the midfield problem, if they want to play Carroll then they have to play 4-4-2, make the wingers cross the thing and have tactical discipline with the two CMFs, whether it be Adam and Gerrard. If they want to play a 4-5-1 type system, then I would suggest two holding midfielders to give Gerrard free role in an attacking support sense and make the wingers keep width. Lack of width is killing Liverpool because we do not possess technically proficient midfielders like a Silva for example.
So a lack of luck and rub of the green, and constant player and tactical changes make us currently sitting ducks to anyone. I would suggest that any team in that league at the moment would relish Liverpool as their next game.
Things need to be changed.
