FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

I really do not understad so many glourious comments. I tried the game and it is too simillar to other Fifas that i got bored of. What i cant't stand the most is cartoon moving on the pitch, no weight - will they ever fix this? they need new engine or what? an animation after scoring a goal when you control the player is so unrealistic. I really tried.. Sliders plus manual could be eventually standable.. i played only like 5 games. Also the colors are really wrong, day time is better, but night looks totally wrong. Shooting and nets are well done.
I know where you are coming from, any camera other than Dynamic looks like a cartoon to me, but Dynamic camera makes the game feel ridiculously fast in some stadiums (the angle changes slightly depending on the stadium).

I love dynamic camera, always have. I have passing reduced to 37 and games not too fast on legendary..just beat man u 1-0 on career , direct free kick from courtinho...scenes!!

Is doing skills the only way to get past any defenders?

I never use the skills. Never have in any FIFA game. Instead I use jockey to shield and what I think are tricky little changes of direction from shielding and while dribbling combined with R1 to get past players. Look for defenders to become uncomfortable/awkward in their defensive stances and it'll be easier to change direction and get past them with R1. I only play on professional though so maybe it takes more than this on higher difficulty levels...

Thanks guy for all the tips. Now I can get past players with players that have high dribbling stat. However does anyone have player where the CPU defender always catches up with your player in Legendary? Not sure what's causing it.

I bought the game yesterday and i played a few games on it. I think i prefer fifa 16, but it could be because i'm not used to it yet.

I just can't settle with this game. Went to a friend's house last night to play Online Seasons together (he won't play against the AI, flat-out refuses). Even online, the pace was nice and slow. Yeah, the opponent was ping-ponging all passes about like it was old-school PES, but that's to be expected.

(Seasons has a control filter - we set it to semi and manual, searched for games for 40 minutes, and then gave up...)

So I went home, played a Kick Off game (Legendary on SLOW) with my current sliders (which are mostly default, just AI pass error is 60, pass speed 40, shot error 40). Absolutely beautiful match.

Then loaded up my career mode, played the same game from Kick Off, and all the AI wanted to do was hit straight, flat balls to the striker. No interest in anything else. No midfield, and much faster movement.

The next match, against another German second division team (like all of these games), was exactly the same AI. It wasn't like I was playing a different team.

I went back to FIFA 17 with sliders, and the AI just doesn't play ping-pong football like it does in 18. It's making it so difficult for me to enjoy the game.

For the first time in a while, I'm hoping that the next patch does completely change the game. (Oh, noticing zero gameplay difference with the new patch, by the way.)

I noticed last night after the patch that the full time score isn't shown at the end of the highlights reel. The team names are shown but no score. Is it meant to be like that?

Chris I feel with you. We need to have in mind that computer games are not perfect and will never be, there always be some flaws of the game, for someone some things for other something different. If you scroll with in this thread you will notice that some guys love the game a lot and for some others this game is just not for them. I was thinking why is that? I will speak from my perspective so this is my opinion and should not be true for everyone...
I am a pes player for my whole life, I have bought fifa three times in my life, 16, 17 and now 18. In the past I can`t imagine my self playing fifa at all becouse I don`t like the way that game plays becouse it doesn`t have soul for me. Bought fifa 16 becouse I fell in love with the demo and becouse I was angry at konami releasing pes 16 with weird animations and stupid goals, btw didn`t bought pes 16. For fifa 17 I just bought it just for curiosity and only thing I don`t like about it was running of the players and sometimes difficulties to defend. And now becomes pes that konami have worked three years on it... I am really dissapointed with the direction they are going with pes and their perspective. If you played pes in the past you can see some animations form ps1 days which is ridiculous. Passing with outside of the foot 80% of the time and other similar animations. For three years you can develope game from scratch and just implement some things but the base should be stable which isn`t the case in pes so I just stop here speaking for pes becouse this post isn`t about that.
Fifa on the other hand found the magical formula with fifa 14 on new consoles and now with frostbite making it`s steps to the glory again. It isn`t perfect game and will never be! There are flaws that users report but in the end everyone of us here plays the game in his own way and have some expectations before playing the game which isn`t fair if you want to judge the game after that. We should accept the flaws if we want to enjoy the game more. Exhibition games in fifa and carrer games are not the same as in pes. Started carrer with Man Utd and suddenly I start to see more fouls against me and games are more varied, but this is in my perspective so it shouldn`t apply for others.
I want to say, we don`t have football game these days that simulates the sport, both of the games just play like football and I am afraid with the audience and needs to make money and have more youtube views we are far far away from simualtion but on the other hand games are fun. To be honest this years fifa has long learning curve, it`s not easy as users report if you play manual not just about difficulties in passing but AI plays different when you play manual.
Enjoy the game for what it is and don`t make pressure on you, enjoy the good things about it and you can`t see in pes. I hope the game will settle for you in the end becouse I know you are trying really hard to enjoy it from what I read :) Cheers! :)

It is a good post, i also think gamers expectations are very high these days, i remember kick off 2 coming out, i also remember games before that but this one stick out. People were amazed by it, it was so simple yet so addictive. No kits, no stats just end to end football. i remember being amazed that it said the word "penalty" and "foul". I remmeber being 14ish when it came out and in the winter i'd have my mates round playing cup competitions arguing over how gets to used the best joystick.
These days people are complaining about creases in shirts, this player or that player with a hair out of place. It all gets a bit stupid. Like you said sit down with whatever game that you like and enjoy it for what it is. The issue is there's too many people who will sit down for hours and scrutinise trying to find the smallest flaw and then bang videos on youtube to get the attention and then try to convince people that their opinion is right and everyone should agree.

All the above is fair enough - but if we're all supposed to shrug our shoulders and "just play"... Why join a discussion forum? To look at screenshots?

I like the game, still playing it, still get joy out of it. But that doesn't mean I have to stop discussing my experience (in the hope of improving it).

@hitmanuk, you can't seriously say "enjoy it for what it is" when you're constantly challenging people's praising of PES, who are doing exactly that! (Listen, I agree with most of your posts - in-fact I think I follow you on Twitter - and I freely admit I don't like PES 2018, but come on now, you must see how hypocritical that is!)

The absolute heart of this for me comes down to - why are some games great, and others super-robo laser-pass fests? (Nothing to do with "complaining about a hair out of place".) I've never seen anything like it in a football game - it's great to see variety in each match, but not when the "top end" of that variety is something totally alien, first-time passes moving at 100mph and ignoring the laws of physics to stop dead without deceleration.

That's something PES does, and it's why I don't really like it any more. To ignore it now I'm seeing it in FIFA for the first time would be totally hypocritical of me.

I'm changing between Pro, World Class and Legendary every single night - between SLOW and NORMAL - between default sliders and giving the AI 70+ pass error - but as soon as I find the right balance, the next game is absolutely cuckoo in comparison.

But
I feel like I'll find it - it's just so disheartening to have one absolutely perfect-feeling game, followed by one full of passes that humans couldn't possibly hit. How the hell does it go from one to the other?

But I'll keep experimenting, as I'm sure @Matt10 will too.

@Chris Davies you are probably right mate i do find fault with PES way too much, i need to chill out more :) ..i do get aggravated when you see some people try the game for like 10 mins and then just say things that aren't true

Exactly! :)

Novelty factor/honeymoon period well and truly over already for me. Game is a week old and I'm already fed up.

With OS Sliders, the game is just a chore after a while, there is no excitement.

Vanilla game is too fast, frantic and high scoring.

When the glitzy presentation starts getting old, there's a pretty bland (with sliders) or ridiculously fast (vanilla) game under the bonnet.

I still hate the way the ball feels. It floats around on long balls and crosses really unusually.

I feel like this engine is broke. It doesn't seem to keep up with the gameplay, it's weird.

And what's with the awful, clunky menus still? This was a thing in FIFA 17, why are we still having to trudge about the horrible interface?

The game is ugly as well. It gives me a headache. Lighting is woeful and night matches look ridiculous.

Atmosphere and presentation is second to none but the gameplay is, yet again, a chore.

If you really want to see FIFA at its worst, play the Squad Battles in FUT. I'm fine playing Legendary in my CM, with all default settings, but my god - playing against a good squad with 100 chemistry and I can barely win on Professional sometimes. Squad Battles exemplify how imbalanced this game can be - on all the difficulty settings (except Ultimate; I've yet to even bother with that one) I can score, but yet on Professional I can barely defend.

Does my head in because they've done a lot to improve the single player experience in FUT, but it's just insane how perfect attackers are with all the chemistry boosts and in-form/special players, whereas you just don't see or experience that same level from defenders.

My Man Utd CM is going great though. Totally enjoying it and I love this game... most of the time. Scoring is still a little high for me, and the defensive AI leading to easy goals at times really frustrates me (for example, my last match I beat Juventus 4-3 when Lukaku was left completely alone in the middle for a breakaway 1-on-1 goal, in a way that you'd just never see at that level, especially against Juventus) but overall I have a good mixture of matches and scorelines.

But I totally agree - there's things going on under the hood that can influence how the CPU plays that is neither realistic or fun. I think the problem is that when the CPU changes its attack setting and goes more aggressive, all of the typical issues - high pass accuracy, perfect touches, etc. - is hyper-exaggerated; meanwhile, there's really nothing on the defensive side of the game to compensate. Maybe it's just me but I find that going into a defensive setting, or even park the bus, doesn't actually make me feel any more secure at the back. Instead, it just means nobody is going forward.

first games after the new patch. game definately is faster. why EA??? :(
Because the Ultimate Team kiddies moaned that it was too slow.

I am going to sell this game tomorrow, it's same old rubbish from EA yet again. All glitz and glamour but still terrible in bed.

You are so contradicting. First you say you hated PES 2018. Then you went on to say how much you like it. Then you say you loved FIFA 18 and now you hate it?

Your point is fair, I agree that I change my opinion quickly. I just posted this in the PES thread:

Opinions chop and change the longer I spend with a football game. I see why you're sceptical though.

I am first to admit that I get over excited when first playing a game. I can't stop going back to PES 2018, where as FIFA is already boring. I will sell FIFA 18 tomorrow, where as I can't part with PES 2018 because it's so god damn addictive where it counts - on the pitch.

The issues with PES are still there. I stick to my opinion with that. Master League is scripted, shallow and broken. Online is a mess. MyClub is a mode that will please the kiddies and people who crave fantasy football.

But this game, in cup modes or exhibition games, is the best football game on the market.

I have poured many hours into both now. And FIFA doesn't satisfy me, it's still a soulless experience.

Sliders are all well and good but they break the game in a way. The OS sliders, for example, make most sides play like a lower league team and that's not realistic. If anything, they stop Bournemouth playing like Barcelona and turn them into Barnsley.

FIFA 18, like 17, feels wrong. Tactical defending is dire, any pass that's played in the air doesn't look or feel realistic. There are so many glaring issues with FIFA 18 it's hard to know where to begin.

I spent 53 quid on this game, so please don't get annoyed with my views. I won't come back to this thread and annoy you people that love the game because what's the point?

But when some people claim this game isn't realistic and that sliders turn it into the "best football game ever" then, well, I don't know what they're smoking but I want some of it!

Again, no disrespect intended. But FIFA, once again, has shown itself to be a shallow game. It's a pig with expensive makeup.

I must be in the minority who thinks it’s brilliant. Remarkably brilliant for EA to somehow drop this on us, was not expecting it so good.

Played it all day, really enjoying it, I’m getting better and scoring lots of varied goals and some screamers with manual shooting and Matt’s sliders on normal speed.

I really can’t fault it myself.

Pretty much why I've waited every year,at least a month or two before buying Fifa, especially FIFA compared to Pes,not gonna compare here, but no matter what we feel about that game and it's game play,it settles in faster than FIFA
Day one release, great game play, first patch fucks everything up etc etc,I didn't enjoy my FIFA 15 and 16 until the very end of their life cycle.

But what you say about it constantly changing is weird, when you boot it up after a exhibition game.
I'll hold on to my 17 for a few more weeks, funny that a game that I truly despised on release actually plays pretty good.
Like it a lot,and hopefully they'll crack 18's issues

Started on having matches where MLS teams are playing like Barca and Real Madrid and beating me 2-0. The same team I beat 3-1 and 4-0 on last week in the same Legendary difficulty. Also all of their shots on target and their passing completion went from 78-84 on how it use to be to 94-99 for the past couple of matches. Safe to assume that scripting is on right now. The game is ruined.

I can't believe the game as fantastic as it is ruined by scripting as worse as FIFA 17. Both PES and FIFA this year got the game so good but still kept their blatant scripting to ruin the experience. It's so annoying to see MLS players play like Messi and Maldini at their prime with Button as their keeper. Whereas all of my players are amateur snails.

Edit: Will post some differences between regular MLS teams and career mode MLS teams to see the difference between scripted matches and normal matches.

What are people's impressions post-patch? I honestly can't see much of a difference but I've seen loads of people whining on reddit that the patch changed gameplay back to FIFA 17.

Totally agree with @guru83 about the OS sliders - I played quite a bit with them and it seems like a good representation of lower league football but doesn't at all seem realistic when playing in the Premiere league; I gave up on those when I was able to hold Arsenal to a pass % in the 70s and they couldn't put together any type of threatening attack at all, on Legendary. And I kinda suck at defending but it was so easy.

I think those guys over there though really enjoy the messier side of football, and all the power to them for that, but it's just about as unrealistic as FIFA is at default. Pick your poison. Great thing about sliders is I think there's a middle ground between the two.

But man, I'm continually impressed with the variety in this game. It's really exciting to see how much progress EA has made from last gen to this one with all its different animations. More and more with FIFA I feel like if there's something that would make sense in real life to do, you can do it in game and the players will respond with a proper animation. Especially in attack at least; they need to up their game with some of the defensive animations/gameplay.

The gameplay still the same. It's some matches that are scripted like it was in FIFA 17. Play a Exhibition/CUP match or a non-scripted match in career mode and the gameplay is still the same. Scripting frequency is increased.

Topaz did you not say a few days ago in the pes thread that it wasn't scripting but momentum in Pes? and I argued the toss with you that it was scripting.

After playing both game a lot, they have the same scripting logic. It's random, and it makes no sense. Randomly both games can make a lower rated team play like world's best team. Before when I first started playing PES 2018, I thought it was because of my team. But now, that doesn't seem like it matters in both games. It's so frustrating because I love both of the games when there isn't any scripting but I don't like exhibition or cup matches. So gutted.
