Wow, gotta be honest, I'm surprised at how effusive the praise for FIFA 18 is in here. I agree that it can be really superb, and I think EA is crazy close to something truly special, but I'm surprised that people haven't been more critical of the overpowered attacking and the defensive AI.
I guess for everyone who plays with sliders the overpowered attacking isn't as much a problem because you can limit some of the worst issues, but for those of us who play multiplayer and like to keep it closer to default settings, the ease of creating chances through a combination of really accurate passing and upgrades to the dribbling, shooting and crossing systems is a pretty impactful issue, at least for me, and really takes away from the satisfaction of scoring.
The overpowered attack - and I'm not talking about defending against the CPU or other people as much as just how easy I find it to create chances playing on Legendary - isn't the biggest issue though, IMO. Some of the defensive AI is just terrible. I don't know if the devs have intentionally programmed the CPU defenders to do stupid shit to replicate the multiplayer experience, but too often I'm able to exploit weird/poor/nonsensical decisions by the CPU defense. Skill moves, for example, will often freeze a defender and they just won't move; also, the AI run tracking is super lax, and as a result there's way too many open forward runs.
The list of things that this game does right is FAAAARRR longer than what it does wrong this year, but these two big issues for me are holding it back and I'm really surprised that I don't see more people mentioning it. But I'm glad that so many people are enjoying the game and I'll just hope that for myself EA tweaks these things because what they've done right this year is really impressive.
