FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

Switched HDR off on my PS4 Pro to see the difference in colours and I'm getting a lot of juddering and slow down during every match I play. Doesn't happen with HDR on. Anyone else seeing this?

I see a lot of fouls to be honest, shielding, sprints, contrasts.. maybe not Pes 5 numbers, but definitely a lot.. I guess the more you search for them, the more they happens.. I'm totally satisfied until now and to the contrary, I'm scared to death they might reduce this in future patches..

Yea, been getting plenty of fouls, including penalties. Lovely little game this FIFA 18. Had to whack the passing up to about 75 though. Just too sluggish otherwise. I like the quick sub feature.

I can't quite believe how much I'm enjoying this game. It's absolutely incredible and i am usually a massive hater of FIFA games in general, I've just never got on with them.

It took me a while to get to grips with as i had to try & nerf all my PES habits and muscle memory. When it clicks it's absolutely stunning and so intuitive. So many gorgeous little details and intricacies that i didn't notice at first.

The lighting and differing crowd ambience is out of this world and so immersive. I feel like they've finally hit a sweet spot with gameplay as i can for the first time ever in a FIFA game enjoy a slow methodical build up play, with player and team individuality finally an actual thing i can not just.... "Enjoy the presentation and get bored quickly with the gameplay" which is usually what i feel with E.A's offerings.

FIFA 18 is currently all fluff and plenty of substance! I still love PES but gonna find it hard to go back at this rate.

Same here mate. I can't quite believe it until I realised I'd been looking forward to playing FIFA career mode when I get home. Can't even remember the last edition I played, must've been before PES6. I went back to PES18 last evening and found that I actually missed FIFA more. Never reckoned that would happen as PES18 is a brilliant game.

I'm playing on Slower speed, with Matt's Community Sliders and have been really immersed in the gameplay.

I agree to a point. I love the Pes camera angle, player models and the fluidity of the passing, but love the keepers, animations, graphic quality and presentation of Fifa. Imagine if you could combine the top qualities of both

lol if anything FIFA cameras are better. PES animations, player ID and graphics are far superior than on FIFA. GKs are kinda dodgy at times with the rebounds but way more reliable than on FIFA. Anyone that says FIFA graphics are great are lying to themselves. If anything it needs a huge upgrade in terms of lighting, faces, stadium texturing, etc. The only good thing I see here is the grass texture, something I would like to see on PES.

Completely agree. At least, I've found that if I check a teams default custom tactic, and then play against them, they play as per the custom tactic. I haven't tried radically altering a team's tactics and see if they completely change their style to the new custom tactic. I wasn't convinced they did in the demo - I've so far been happy enough playing them on their default tactics in the full game because there is good variety in how CPU teams play.

I've played matches where CPU teams have sat deep and whenever they get the ball, pump lots of long high balls forward. Others have relentlessly attacked and overwhelmed me. I've played against teams that, when out of possession, pressed my deep into my own half, whereas others back right off into their own half when they lose possession. I've played teams that focus on getting it out wide and fire in lots of crosses, others try to pass their way through the middle. Some try to pass it into the net whereas other shoot on sight from 20+ yards. I've seen a tremendous variety of CPU goals.

I've had teams dominate me early on and get 2 goals up, but when I pull one back, they completely lose control of the match and their mentality changes to resort to defending and hoofing it clear.

The physicality in the game is better than before - the shirt-tugging and squabbling for the ball is much improved and Tactical Defending finally has, most of the time, got rid of the ridiculous 2 metre invisible halo around CPU players which prevented you getting close to them, although it does still occur when the CPU is on cheaty "boost" mode.

I'm also seeing CPU players make more errors than ever before. Particularly pleasing is that CPU defenders are prone to more mistakes and not be so perfect. I've seen the CPU miscue shots so badly that they've gone out for throw-ins.

There's a huge amount of detail in all the little deflections and their effect on the path and spin on the ball.

For me, this is the follow up to FIFA16 that FIFA17 should have been. I'm not sure what patches are in the pipeline but so far, I'm happy with how it is out-of-the-box.
Out of interest Winston, default sliders? Default controls (assisted)? What difficulty level?

does anyone notice when you do a lob ball, it feels like there's this invisible wind forcing the ball to travel faster midway during flight.

So far i’m loving the game.

Playing this with matt10’s sliders on pro difficulty.
Started a season with the Spurs and had some great games.

I do see a difference in how teams play in the sense that for example Chelsea were giving me a much harder time than for example Swansea.
But even against some lower teams some games end in a draw purely because I’m unable to break their defense. I love how those team stay compact and back, and try to get out on the counter.

I see a nice variety in the type of goals I score which is great.
Also lots of misplaced passes both by me and the cpu.

Atmosphere is great as expected, and I have not seen any bad lighting yet as I did in the demo.
Probably to do with me playing premier league and being only 5 games in it’s September so not too sunny.

Defending is still difficult but slowly I’m getting the hang of it.
I do notice that you have to be patient on defense, you really have to time your tackle. Incorrect timing means that the guy goes past you.
In one of my games I was down by 1 goal, so went hunting for the equalizer.
I was so focused on offense that whenever I lost the ball I tried to get it back asap, mostly by 2nd man press. That didn’t work out so well and I conceded again. Loved it really.

Had some nice and intense battles and to me it’s a great game right now.
Seeing enough fouls, even had 2 penalties. (I fucked up both)

I’m playing on the dynamic cam, zoomed out all the way.
Only wish I have is that I want to zoom out more. I love this cam, seeing my guys so close up, but on the other hand I don’t see much of the pitch so have to rely on the radar a lot.

All in all very happy with the game.

Hi all, my copy is coming today. Just a question regarding Career Mode. Do the CPU teams pick their strongest teams? I’m sure in the past they used to leave out their best players. Thanks

I can feel the potential and yet I'm really not enjoying it at the minute, and I'd love some advice from anyone who's enjoying the game.

Playing a career mode as Bolton, I came up against Wisla Krakow in a pre-season tournament game. I replayed the game three times on Professional, World Class and Legendary, and their pass accuracy was 88%, 90% and 70% respectively. I lost the first two games 2-0, but then drew 1-1 on Legendary because they weren't playing tiki-taka.

It just doesn't make sense to me! On Professional/World Class, putting the pass error slider up to 100 results in buggy lobs and crosses, but ground passes are still incredibly accurate. On Legendary, 50-70 pass error results in a lower pass accuracy!

I feel like assisted passing is the way to go because otherwise I just can't put moves together quickly enough to beat the AI's defence, but it's so assisted that you end up hitting perfect 50 yard ground passes to wingers when you weren't even aiming for them - but semi passing is so random that I'll do the lightest tap on the pass button, and I am equally likely to hit a pea-roller that goes nowhere as I am a pass that goes past the intended target.

I can't even decide whether to play on SLOW or NORMAL, because on SLOW I feel like reaction times are too slow and a player's pace doesn't really matter, but do I turn up the pace sliders, or switch to NORMAL and then lower the pace sliders?

OS and @Matt10's sliders definitely help, but I feel like I have absolutely no idea how to begin getting the balance right. Any advice?

What settings do you guys use?

A guy on Reddit simmed a load of games to see if teams picked their strongest squads and found that they did, but there have been more reports since that they don't. So I'm guessing if you sim a game they do, but when you actually play them, they don't...?!

Slow. Professional. Matt's sliders bar the line height, width, length settings. Tele broadcast cam 16 height, zero zoom. Semi assisted passing, manual through pass and crosses. Semi shooting. Although manual through pass seems a bit broken, it makes through passes far less effective.

Absolutely beautiful for me, but I guess it depends on what you're after in a footy game. :) it should be said that the CPU defense is a bit too passive sometimes, maybe once every five games though, so I'm looking to up difficulty to world-class after a while.

I am playing both this year & more importantly loving both, I usually just play Fifa casually & make PES my hardcore all year football fix but this year I am playing both equally.
I have just started my Fifa career mode & am loving all the details etc. I have a question which is more about the game in general rather than just career mode.

Is it possible to quickly change from one set of tactics or switch to be more defensive quickly? In PES I tend to double tap down on the D-Pad to move my entire team back - especially in the last 20 minutes if holding on to a slim lead. If I still need more defensive cover I will go into gameplan & make some subs & tweaks accordingly.
Is there something like this in Fifa that allows me to change quickly on the fly? Obviously I can go into tactics & make some subs/switch things up to be more solid, but is there something that I can setup in tactics that I can then switch to if I want to go more defensive in the final 20 minutes etc? Or the reverse and go all out attack if I am losing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You used to be able to store team-sheets and switch to them mid-game, but you can't do that any more - only pre-game.

However, if you press left/right on the D-PAD, you can set your defence/attack levels (you need to turn the "trainer" off first though, if you have that switched on - the arrow that's present underneath your selected player - by clicking in the right stick).

Could anyone verify if that insane bug in player career still appears in 18?
Example, and this has happen to me at least once every career on 15-16-17.
I've gone on loan/full transfer from L1 to the championship,or from PL to the championship/L1/L2 and the league I left freeze's.
Which means no more games are played in that league after I leave it
Happens when you leave mid season.
Right now I'm 22 games in on my loan spell at Sheffield United, while my club that I left,Aston Villa, only has played two games, and will remain so the rest of the season.
Insane bug,I've had it on every career since -15

Thanks Chris. I have the trainer turned off as I find it annoying so that should be fine. Is pressing the D-Pad left/right similar to double pressing it up/down on PES then?

Yep, exactly the same. Left is defensively minded, right is attacking minded. You see a little bar pop up that tells you where your current balance is.

Exactly. Except in FIFA there are seven different levels versus PES' five levels.

Excellent, thankyou. I will try this when I get home from work.
It's crazy, last week I couldn't wait to get home to play my PES ML & now I just want to get home to carry on my Fifa career.
I will probably keep flip flopping back and forth all year as both games have strengths and weaknesses but I am enjoying both. Thanks again

Playing as liverpool for my career using Matt10s sliders, i was getting a lot of draws, i bumped up run frequency to 52 and now have more movement upfront also switched to a 3-5-2 formation helped. Also love the team sheets, appreciate they have probably been in for years but i've never used them. i have my cup squad and my premier league squad. ive also upped injury frequency to 65 but reduced severity to 10..My one and only signing gets injured the first game since changing - so engaging this game.

What difficulty, man? What pass level? Cheers!

Sorry to hear you haven't found the sweet spot yet Chris. I would play on normal speed and lower the speed slider to find what you want. You want to keep the quicker reaction times you like of normal speed.

Why don't you ramp up CPU pass error and first touch error as well? Try a high value and then if you think it's too pronounced, start lowering it.

Understood. Leave passing on semi and boost your passing accuracy slider until you get the balance of assistance right for you. If the fluctuating passing power continues to bother you, try lowering the 'Power bar- user' slider that dictates how quickly power builds when you hold a button down.

Note this will effect shooting as well, so later you might have to up your shooting speed slider to compensate if you want to keep the default feel of shooting. But I would begin by just adjusting your passing accuracy slider, before diving too far into the slider rabbit hole.

Quick question if anyone can help please.

Is there any way if disabling the in-game touch pad function (PS4) as i keep knocking it mid game and it switches to that weird camera angle, it's so annoying!!
