FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

lol if anything FIFA cameras are better. PES animations, player ID and graphics are far superior than on FIFA. GKs are kinda dodgy at times with the rebounds but way more reliable than on FIFA. Anyone that says FIFA graphics are great are lying to themselves. If anything it needs a huge upgrade in terms of lighting, faces, stadium texturing, etc. The only good thing I see here is the grass texture, something I would like to see on PES.

Why are you in this thread, put in PES/Fifa comparison or whatever.

I love it. I'm getting so much variation in matches in my career mode, I just can't put it down. Had two epic FA cup games against Liverpool - they had such a big match feeling, with lots of drama!

Gameplay wise, I think the fluidity of PES makes it's gameplay a touch more fun to play, and it is also a little more in depth tactically, but I do feel like after playing 30 or so in career mode, that this game plays more like a real football match. I'm not sure if the presentation and atmosphere contributes a lot to this, but it just feels a lot better.

I absolutely adore the PES gameplay (especially this years version), but FIFA 18 has surprised me in a way I couldn't have imagined.

Is there a career mode thread? Would be great to talk about my findings with that. I've been really impressed with transfer market values etc and the release clauses are great.

I've managed to sign both Messi and Sanchez on a free (as United). I'm not sure whether this feels broken or not, since there is a very slim chance of them both leaving on a free in real life.

this is the best football game ive ever played

Me too, and that's a huge statement given how protective I am of PES 6.

I'm really, really struggling to score goals and win games on Professional difficulty. I'm playing as Arsenal in the EPL and my record currently stands at W1, D3, L2. The games have finished 2-1, 0-0, 1-1, 1-0 etc. Have absolutely no idea where these "5-3" and "6-2" score lines people are chatting about are coming from. Just creating chances is really challenging for me and, as a result, it feels so rewarding when you break through and finish one off. I just finished a match away to Chelsea, they were strong and causing so many problems in my defence. I had a 442 holding formation but Willian was terrorising me for fun. I was creating my own half chances too and it was pretty even. I defended intelligently and it was playing out as a 0-0 draw, albeit an entertaining one. Lacazette put a tight chance agonisingly wide from close range thanks to a scuffed effort with the keeper sliding in. One point each was assured but then, suddenly, Chelsea pushed forwards with 4 minutes left, sending a ball into my defence and the two centre backs clashed whilst trying to desperately clear it. Diego Costa stuck his foot in and it bobbled kindly for him to toe poke an effort back off the near post. As he regained his feet he smashed it in for a 1-0 win. Gutted. The Chelsea fans streamed forwards like a pack of wolves to the front hoardings and the crowd noise elevated to such an immense scream. It was Sky Sports on the PS4. Magical. I had one last attack in me and I somehow got Welbeck forwards, shifted it onto my left foot to create space and unleashed a fierce shot...which whistled past the post with Courtois beaten. The full time whistle blew and I had lost.

What an incredible match, all played out on the greatest football game ever made.

Playing on Slow using Matt's sliders (passing/shooting/crossing at Semi, through balls/lobbed passes Manual) and this game is just sensational - absolutely loving it.

I'm finding a great variety in opposition playing styles from game to game, and I feel like the game allows me to play whichever way I want to as well. On my career mode I can vary my game plan and actually use a target man to his full potential, which I never felt able to in another football game - at least not to the same degree. It feels like I'm controlling a League 1 side, and the type of goals I score seem to mirror that, which I love.

Two goals from my Career Mode session today: First one is a quick counter, followed by a beautiful lobbed manual through ball to my winger who smashes it home. Great way to grab an away win against a rival for promotion, and seeing that pass land was so satisfying.

Second one is to illustrate my point about the target man. Long lobbed pass to Oularé who outmuscles the centre-back, and out of a nothing situation scores a great goal.

Sorry but I didn't want to post this because it is a bit negative but I have to say I am struggling to enjoy the game.

I think it may be because we are given too many options. Sliders, Control settings, Difficulty levels.

I played as England v Germany in a custom tournament. On World Class, manual, with Matts sliders. They were all over me which I don't have a problem with but Hart made about 10 fantastic saves. It had me thinking "maybe I should adjust the GK sliders" rather than "wow what a fantastic GK". Also the woodwork has been hit quite a lot in the few games I have played.

I have not played many games compared to you guys but each game I am twinkering controls, going from full manual, to full assisted, changing camera angles all over the place. Maybe if there were less options it would be easier for me to persevere.

I know there is a good game in there somewhere because of the comments I have been reading. Maybe I need to practise more, but I don't know wether to drop down a level, change to full assisted, or change the camera, too many options for me at the moment. Maybe I should just play on vanilla, full assisted, pro level and see how it goes.

ive just been playing local derbies from around the world tonight, out of 10 games on professional with Mats sliders i won 1 drew 3 and lost 6 games, i never lost by more than 2 goals in the games and in all cases it was my own fault, the difference in team styles using the sliders is really there to see and individual good players really stand out in bad teams , also loving most of the smaller teams playing with an old school target man striker meaning its ok to hit longer balls up the pitch.

another thing is definitely EA have put a sepa filter on all the south american teams games. they all look washed out, all the european games i played all were on lush green grass

only downer tonight is my keyboard doesn’t work to edit the stadium names, EA must have done that on purpose so people wouldn’t be bothered to spend hours typing with the control pad

play fully assisted on professional to start and youll start to enjoy the game first while you learn, im enjoying it and still losing games especially with the lower ranked teams, remember its a game so it should be enjoyable

I'm on vanilla, all assisted, slow pace and world class and finding it great, win some lose some but no match feels the same

Thanks guys for the tips. I will try those settings and even if I find it too easy I will see how it goes for about 10 games rather than keep tinkering.

Love the variety of the matches. I was trying a national German cup with Borussia Dortmund, first game against Stoccarda and it came out as an easy one for me, a lot of open spaces in which Aubemeyang, Reus and co did what they wanted, won 3 -1, a very calm game with just maybe one or two fouls for side.. then in the second match I had Hannover, their defense was much more tight and I had them making something like 10 fouls on me :OH:, won 2-1 with a lot of tension..

Nvm, I realized why I was having input lag. I had vsync on. Turned it off and it's smooth and responsive. Who thinks this is one of the best FIFA? It's pretty much head on competing with FIFA 13 and FIFA 16 Demo onto being the best FIFA. I have yet to have bad scripting issue or lower rated player/team empowering me like I am having in PES 2018 ultimate difficulty. Defending is so good and so rewarding too. Positioning and timing is key. However I do wish defenders was a bit more alert and a bit more responsive when there is a ball around them. Other than that and the accurate passing, the game is perfect for me. Thanks to @Matt10 wonderful sliders as well. Amazing for MLS on Career Mode.

i'm playing Premier league low teams like Stoke, Burnley on broadcast camera 0-10 full manual control and it's good stuff, defending takes time but it comes.

Really, really, hard to put it down right now. I know we're looking at fouls next, but we're not going to break the set's base to get it. I can't wait to start my real CM soon. Have really been missing getting into a proper CM, these test matches on all the CMs I have are so much fun. Glad you're liking the set, man.

Every single concern about the game get the same reply: fix it with sliders. It's really toxic.
The trouble is 'the community' is made up of individuals with quite different expectations and desires in a football game. If the single player game can be tinkered and tailored to most people's liking with sliders, how can that be a bad thing?

But maybe there should be a separate thread @Evoweb for online FIFA & FUT, where people can talk about the game with default settings...it's true it is a vastly different beast.

I am about to go down the rabbit hole of all the time 10 minute matches. On 16 8mins were the norm. Even when you learn the cheat mechanics to score on the AI the game is still fire . All manual pro is what I am striving for. Sometimes even on semi passing I struggle to get past the halfway line.

Don't patch Shiz EA!!!!!

One setting that must be selected is to have the auto switching move assistance set to low. DO NOT have this set to off - I read about this online last night after getting frustrated at my players' lethargy, it was like a lightbulb moment. Changed everything.

My only problem is ... I only have time to play a couple of hours every day. :P so far, maybe 15 matches into my career mode, I've only had 0-0, 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 and 2-0 results. I miss quite a lot of chances though. Overall game feels goooood. :)

Another 2 career mode games in - I'm lucky if I get 2 games a day in :)..gone to legendary now and it's true about both shooting and passing..they seem to try harder passes and shots so error goes up..1st game was a tough one against Burnley at home. 6 mins in I win a free kick out wide left using R2 to draw the player in (r2 is such a good tool to win free kicks or create space) Henderson long ball into the area nodded down by faminho for mane to half volley home..from there it was a tough affair Burnley equalised on 10 mins with a cross into the box and continued to use the long ball most of the game and cause problems. Finished 1-1 ..second game in the league cup I'm against wolves - what a game this was ..chances at both ends , I had 3 free kicks but would of been 5 if I hadn't played advantage..7 shots each they had 3 on target..it was nil nil with cup squad..in the last 15 they really come on strong it was strange like they had a stat boost in some areas to get the momentum but didn't make the team into a bunch of messis, passes were still misplaced and they couldn't score..i brought on courtinho on 80 mins and on 88 he slotted solanke through on goal , he keeps his head and finds the far post. I win 1-0 ..bad thing is there were some crunch challenges and I've lost both mane and salah to injury ...class

Yeah, it's quite noticeable how the CPU becomes desperate towards the end of games if they're losing or want to win. There's more mistakes and generally a more open game. If I only had a quicker striker than Conor fucking Washington, maybe I'd be able to capitalise from the counters from time to time as well. :P can't wait for the January window (turned off the first window for added realism).

Well, FIFA18 have totally conquered me, a PES player, over theses few days I'm playing it. From all the bunch of cool features in it, properly working CTT have probably surprised me most. You can make a team play a proper long ball in FIFA (!). When was that possible?

One of the better football games recently, definetely.

I saw a really cool animation that I haven't seen before..played a long ball towards mane and pressed r1 as it was approaching him..i think in the past the players let a ground pass go through their legs with it..and he ducked and let the ball go over his head ..looked very cool ..theres so many finesse touches in this game with little animations and close controls..i genuinely feel like I'm controlling a footballer and played right I can control the pace of the game

Really noticing a difference between playing low tier teams and the top teams.
With the season as the Spurs i played home against Liverpool. Intense battle, defending is much harder against these players.

Still i had the better chances, but did not manage to score. The nice thing is that it was no scripting or anything like that.
Just poor finishing on my part, bad aiming and not enough power on the shots because i was under pressure trying to get the shot off.

In the 90th minute it was still 0-0, and my cat decided to come sit on my lap, i look at him for like 0,8 seconds and bam...Liverpool score 0-1. Loved it as it does mean you have to keep your focus right to the very end.

Then an away game against Man United. Same story, very intense battle but this time i got a 0-1 win, could have gone either way.

Really loving the game. Seeing lots of fouls (though i suck at free kicks).
Only thing is that at the end the pass % is quite high for both teams. Does not really bother me though as i see pass errors from both me and the cpu during the game.
