FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

Also the custom tactics work perfectly. I thought they didn't but I had live update on which resets them to the default, once you turn that off its all good. Been trying Krebstars long ball with Leicester and my back line is under siege.

Some great positivity in this thread.
Has many PES players made the switch?
Haven't bought a FIFA since 16. Quickly got tired of it. Seemingly more variety, challenging AI? Love the shooting in it. Miles ahead of PES it sems

Am I the only one finding playing on full manual is absolutely awful this year? Passing is far too underpowered and the CPU is far too aggressive. If I want to pass the ball more than five yards I have to hold down x for around one second, in which team, the CPU just take the ball off me. Shielding seems ineffective and everything just has a laggy feel to it (I'm playing career mode).

Using players like Silva and De Bruyne seems pointless as it is now seemingly impossible to turn out of trouble with the ball. It seems they have taken away any form of acceleration meaning that even when you have the perfect foot placement to buy a little bit of space, the cpu somehow still manages to stay on top of you. In general, manual just has a crap feel to it. It feels like the pitch is sticky.

When you change it back to assisted or semi, the issues pretty much go, but I don't enjoy assisted anywhere near as much as I normally enjoy manual. I understand they are trying to slow down the game and make it more difficult to go on slalom like dribbles but it comes to something when I'd much rather put Sterling in my side than Silva or De Bruyne.

I’m only getting the quick sub option half way through 2nd half. I can’t trigger it myself at any time.

Weird. Something is definitely up. I've got a custom International league going and the R2 prompt for quick subs never appears when I'm the away team. However, when I'm home, it's popping up all the time from about 30 mins in. Can anyone else confirm this?

I can't quite believe how much I'm enjoying this game. It's absolutely incredible and i am usually a massive hater of FIFA games in general, I've just never got on with them.

It took me a while to get to grips with as i had to try & nerf all my PES habits and muscle memory. When it clicks it's absolutely stunning and so intuitive. So many gorgeous little details and intricacies that i didn't notice at first.

The lighting and differing crowd ambience is out of this world and so immersive. I feel like they've finally hit a sweet spot with gameplay as i can for the first time ever in a FIFA game enjoy a slow methodical build up play, with player and team individuality finally an actual thing i can not just.... "Enjoy the presentation and get bored quickly with the gameplay" which is usually what i feel with E.A's offerings.

FIFA 18 is currently all fluff and plenty of substance! I still love PES but gonna find it hard to go back at this rate.

I'm not having any issues with the dribbling/shielding aspect (as demonstrated in my post on the previous page), but I'm having a difficult time adjusting to manual passing this year. I played a lot of 17, so manual passing felt pretty effortless. I could ping the ball around no problem. At times, I had to check if my settings were on assisted. This year, both me and my friend (we play 2vsCPU a lot) are struggling. I'd suggest playing around with the pass speed if you use manual. I have to boost mine every year because passes are like molasses unless I do. I've been floating between 60 and 65.

Anyway, I believe it might be a case of manual passing being a bit more granular this year? Who's to say. At times, passes I'd have dialed in on FIFA 17, are going 3-4 yards wide of the mark in 18. Sometimes I laugh at how poor my attempts are, and I consider myself to be a pretty good manual player. Perhaps it's just the case of getting used to the subtle differences. I'm sure we'll get the hang of it!

I started playing with semi passing on WC, which was probably a mistake. I then switched to pro, where unfortunately the CPU defence is a bit weaker than I would like but at least I was not struggling so much defensively. After maybe 6-8 matches I think I'm finally much better at defending and going back to WC it's much more enjoyable.

Not only that, but I now question what we've been saying about too many shots & goals in this game. My last results were two 1-0 wins, a 1-1 draw, and a 2-0 victory at Benfica which was one of the most enjoyable matches I've had yet. Benfica pressed high at the start of the match, winning a lot of corners and I was finding it hard to even cross the halfway line. It got much better by the end of the 1st half but I really had to focus on defending and just keeping possession. Second half was 50/50 with both unable to create good chances until I got the 1st goal from a cross out of nowhere. This is the kind of game that could easily become a goalfest for me just a couple of days ago, with me abusing pressure and conceding a lot as a result.

Defending is hard and it takes a lot of practice, but with practice the whole game is much more rewarding.
Playing with Matt's sliders but also trying a lower run frequency.

Yeah, I'm on PC, so used to not having the live updates anyway from using the Moddingway patch. If much rather have different team style.

same for stadiums edits,
To ensure your assignments do not reset to default download the latest squads using the edit team option on the main menu. When starting a Career Mode opt for "Customised" squads.

Enjoying the game so far. 2 things I don't like though:

1. Passing is well under powered on manual.
2. EA got rid of the sound of the ball being kicked.

Not the switch but enjoying both at the time.

As a full manual player that bugged me too. I upped the power gauge meter to 60. Night up it to 65. Try it.
On the flip side crosses and shots are more sensitive too.

Im normally not a fan of Fifa but have been playing the demo on PS4 Pro and it looks and plays really well. However there seems to be hardly any fouls and ive had no penalties at all. This is the same problem PES18 has, great games but missing the realism of fouls and penalties and to me this is a game breaker.

I have not played the released game and if this problem has been sorted I would defiantly buy Fifa this year. Can anyone tell me if EA has patched the release version to up the fouls count and implement penalties?

No fouls at all, Pretty unfair to pick on PES when FIFA has the same silly issue, Also another gripe is when playing Career mode or ML , Players rarely get fatigued, So you end up with 22 players and using only 14 all season. At least in FIFA we have an injuries slider but come on!

I'm getting anywhere between 3 and 6 per game ..i find that L2 shield draws fouls

About the same amount, with or without L2. There's some that I think should be called, but I think it might just be me having a weaker player then the opposition. Fouls are called, I haven't seen anything like PES where your player can get raped and the ref plays on.

Be a pity if fatigue doesn't work in career mode, cause it does in exhibition games.

Yep. I get fouled all the time, often whilst shielding the ball. I even got two penalties in a match just now! Pretty much get a direct freekick opportunity once every game.

1) Yeah it can be a problem but 2) I have conceded and won penalties and yellow cards and plenty of free kicks in a dangerous area, so it's not like all these are not part of the game, but it could be much better. And there's also an option to enable handballs, which will net you an extra couple fouls as well. Funnily enough it depends on the referee a lot. So, some games are better than others when it comes to the number of fouls and I wonder if refs can be modded to be more strict.

The advantage rule is also overused by some refs. One time the CPU was pressing my defender at the edge of my box and I stumbled and he played an advantage. As you can guess a few seconds later he did win the ball and went on to score. Come on ref & EA!
