FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

Only had time for a couple of matches so far but, my word, this game is magnificent. So many little details that add up to an incredible experience. Can't wait to get stuck in with some Journey action.

Why not just move on now..if you don't like don't play it..if someone thinks it's a great game and better than pes 5,6 , 2013 or whatever it's a fact to them..i think it far better than any pes and I used to play them constantly. In my mind that is factual in someone else's it's not ..so what .. beat thing about this is everything works ..tacticts , instructions all make a difference and as far as modes go I've not even scratched the surface

I'm a bit unsure about the length slider being all the way down at 45, though. Congests the opponent a bit too much, makes them very defensive as well. I've set it to 48, and you get a bit more space in attack, as well as more of an attack against you. Still some tinkering to be done with the set, I think. :)

After spending a good few hours with this, it's the best FIFA they've ever released for sure.

Learning curve is steep on this. Which I like.

Really want to start a Career but want to get used to the game a little more before starting out.

Game isn't perfect, far from it. But it's extremely addictive.

Didn't get round to playing this until late last night, so only had a couple of games as I was knackered. I haven't played the demo since PES released so I was a bit out of practice & the game felt fresh. Was such a luxury to be able to change match length & other options.

The game definitely seems more difficult then I remember but I'm pleased there seems to be more passing error on assisted settings. One thing that really bothered me about PES this year was that midfielders seemed to be no where to be seen when you was defending & while it's not perfect on FIFA, I feel like defending is a little more structurally better on this than PES.

Some fantastic new animations especially those new slide tackle ones, you get some incredible looking last ditch challenges as a result. Visually, the game can be breathtaking especially when playing in environments that are authentic & licensed. Players that have been scanned & Stadiums got the treatment look so immersive, the broadcast presentation especially in EPL & La Light games especially with the increase in managers puts it on par with 2Ks series.

Love those subtle little touches such as spectators running down the stands to greet the goal scorer or jumping out the way of a stray shot.

Good stuff so far, can't wait to jump back on tonight with a revitalised mind & a Glass of Whiskey.

The only resemblance this game has to pes 6 is in its arcade and fast paced nature which is why hated that God awful game..

Managed to play the full game and see no difference from the demo
- Ai is full of poo and similar to PES with waaay overpowered scripting on the higher levels. It's seems both games suffer from an inability to create a good opposition ai that doesn't resort to crazy antics to challenge anymore.
- The passing is laser accurate on assisted settings. I don't play pes manual against the AI so didn't bother trying that here
- Animations wise pes has such an organic feel to it. Small little bits of animations that make you truly feel the player which is pretty much non existent here.
- I hardly ever win any free kicks with the AI again executing perfect tackling
- Shooting is pretty lifeless as well with odd ball physics
- Crossing on multi player still way overpowered as well
- Fifa still doesnt know how to respect a small sized dribbler who may not be pacey
- The entire game seems confined to a third of the pitch and is just way too fast to play a slow measured thoughtful game
- Fifa still lacks individuality so I still don't see the difference of playing a player like Paulinho instead of Busquets or a Messi instead of a Delefoue

Just went through my first signing and got van dijk I'm Liverpool.. he bloody fleeced my with his signing on bonus and took all my wage salary lol..didnt realise until it come to offer yaya a contract and realised I only had 25 k left ..the look on his face when I fucked him off was classic

As I said earlier what a fantastic game with manual controls against another manual player. These sliders are just great. Now managed to get enjoyable games against CPU also. One thing I can't see much difference is between normal and slow speed.

Well, I didn't see that coming. This is fantastic.

Out of the box, this is another edition of Ping Pong. The biggest problem is that the computer AI can magically string together four passes at supersonic speed, with supreme accuracy, at will.

BUT... switch to manual, apply @Matt10 sliders and you get what I think is the best football simulator for years! Maybe ever?

I love the weight and momentum in this game. Playing manual you have to think about playing the ball into the path of the run because they won't magically spin and change direction in an instant. Takes a while to get used to but so satisfying.

And all these mini battles all over the pitch between players, so much variety. There's a big increase individuality. Taking charge of Chelsea's Kante and running around dispossessing people is such fun.

I used to get really annoyed by the zig-zagging animation. But that seems to have gone too. I'm even enjoying using tactical defending because I can move the players with more precision.

And for the first time in Fifa, teams do play differently, including an intelligent use of long balls. Never thought I'd see that.

It's just such a shame that most people won't see how good this game is, not changing the out of the box settings. EA's patch should just be to apply Matt's sliders.

It's the best football game I've played since Fifa 9, individually is there in spades and I am loving my career mode, don't like the transfer system cut scenes but at least they can be sped up.

I am involved in high scoring games but I only have like 24 points after 21 games, and not all games are high scoring, I would say it's faithful to the premier league

Sorry, this is just laughable. This was a glaring issue in FIFA titles of yesteryear, but not in the last several years. Could it be improved upon? Obviously, but there is definitely a noticable distinction between the likes of Deulofeu and Messi. Traits, Specialities, and stat allocation play a massive role in how players feel.

Yeah nonsense post ..ive seen messi first hand on this game and his style and effectivness is uncanny ..issue is with most pes players is they play pes non stop then jump into fifa preparing to hate it with pre judgement. Use out of the box settings and play one game and just go this is shit ...same as the reviewers at e3 who love pes because it's so simple and you can go on mazy runs and blast shots with any half decent player at will ..im gonna shut up now and not take the not take people on who dislike it ..im just gonna carry on enjoying it

Ok i'm frustrated.

Firstly i love this game, love the variety, love the balance, love the shooting and the graphics.

However some things are bugging me and i feel i'm not quite there yet as regards to sliders. I'm hoping someone can help me.

So the first bug bear of mine is how difficult at times i'm finding to dribble past the CPU. I play on all manual and have yet to touch the speed/acc sliders yet. The cpu seems to be able to barge me off the ball. I'm also having difficulty with inertia, my players and sometimes the cpu's momentum when running seems to overrun. The turns are not that sharp resulting in players taking about 4-5 paces before being able to turn and track the man again which seems off.

I'm also having problems with manual passing. Sometimes i press it a certain amount and it undercooks, other times it overcooks. Also the crossing feels random compared to last year. I've had to knock up the cpu pass error and first touch because they seem to cut through my defence at will.

the other problem i have is team styles. So i played Swansea before on normal speed, professional and they played like Barcelona, all one touch around the box. With the player switching not being too good, by the time you switch they are in on goal. So i edited their custom tactics but i have a feeling the cpu switches it off when necessary (say when they fall behind or score first)

Another frustration is when i lose the ball it immediately turns off the cursor and control of that player even though I'm still next to the ball and could win it back. Why does it do that?

otherwise i'm enjoying it. Sometimes it feels easy to dribble towards goal and sometimes its the complete opposite. I'm wondering if shielding has anything to do with it.

They still haven't sorted the weird tele cam angles for some stadiums though. So for instance Anfield looks great yet Swanseas stadium is almost overhead in angle.

What rubbish. Go back to the Pes thread. I've got both games and both have their plus points and weaknesses but what you have mentioned there is total untruth.

Why would he?
It's his opinion. He's entitled to it.

Plus, I agree with him 100%.

I mean, there are a lot of issues with FIFA, but some people appear to play the game for 30 minutes (I question even that at times) and then regurgitate tired, passe, inaccurate criticism like "FIFA has zero player individuality." It's not 2014 anymore.

Then you have users like Deco "like" your post, but has he even played the game for any significant amount of time to pass judgement? Has he posted any meaningful impressions of FIFA 18 in this thread?

Yeah the 'Zero player individuality in fifa' is a tired old stereotype which simply isn't true anymore.

FIFA 18 is full of individuality. Gary Cahill feels nothing like Hazard. Busquets feels nothing like Pogba.

I am glad I own both games, this will keep me coming back all year round, the other unfortunately won't as yet again it's a poor package.

Wijnaldum feels like him, busy, bustling and trying to create. Firmino feels like Firmino. Good dribbler, a bit slow, lacks a bit of strength. Salah is like lightening but a bit lightweight when challenging centre backs.

Man I love FiFA 18 more than PES 18. But there are some things in PES 18 that I really want.

The past few days have been like this: Play FiFA for 1 hour, then PES for 1 hour, rinse repeat. What a good year to be a Football video game fan.

I agree to a point. I love the Pes camera angle, player models and the fluidity of the passing, but love the keepers, animations, graphic quality and presentation of Fifa. Imagine if you could combine the top qualities of both

Still too early to judge as hopefully we will have some patching to go through (On both games hopefully), Although frankly speaking he possibility of a patch that would ruin it is still open for both as well.

ML PES is so shallow and repetitive it's insulting really, I'm planning on playing a career mode with fifa once I decide on a suitable sliders set. A lot of testing tonight but it's looking promising so far thanks to the work of Matt!!
