FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

First time I have ever applied sliders. Legendary difficulty.

Playing as my Brighton boys, this game is very good.

I can't score a goal. Not conceding many either but only played exhibition games so far.

Will start a career over the weekend I think.

Anyone find the game harder with @Matt10 sliders? I think it is.

This game on normal speed default sliders is horrible.

I'm using the sliders on professional, but with all manual passing. Can't score a goal to save my life! Enjoying it lots though, strangely. :)

Last career I was a white Swedish boy who grew up in Harlem, keeping it realz.
Great story mode,but...
Ha, yeah, I got a version of the game via PS Plus and the white British guy (with my imported face) talking with what is clearly the voice (and slang) of a black guy from the Bronx was absolutely hilarious.

RPGs get around it though - give me ten voices to choose from or something!

playing full manual, classic cam and matts sliders on slow... best football game I ever played. so different from anything in the past, a lot of little touches I never seen before. variety of goals is phenomenal, can't describe how good and rewarding is when you score. also finally I can properly use tactical defending with this setup and it's very good :)

I don't mean to sound cheesy or cliche. But the Nintendo Switch restored my faith in gaming as a fun activity. Gaming stopped being fun for a while, when i got the switch, It become fun again, it's an amazing console with the best game ever made in it's library.

FIFA18 on switch has everything the PS4 has, except for graphics.

This.
I spent so long analysing FIFA and pro that I forgot to enjoy the game.
Hated gaming so sold my PS pro.
Got a switch in summer and it made gaming fun again.

So played a few games.
Online - horrible. Too fast. Plus it’s still full of cretins who quit when losing. I was drawing 2-2 and they quit with 5 mins to go?!
Using @Matt10 silders its much more enjoyable offline.

Some players need an update as they look nothing like real life. Basic stuff like Bellerons hair is 3 years old.
There’s also some horrible animations going on. Some look like their having an epileptic fit.
But I promised I wouldn’t over analyse this game this year and I’ve done that too much over last few years. I wasn’t expecting to buy this for the Xb1 so I’ll enjoy it.
Few more tweaks from Matt and this will play lovely.
Not having a goal fest either. Lost 1-3, drew 1-1 and won 1-0.

Yeah,that would do it mate.
Thanks for the advise btw, playing some FIFA right now actually, cheaped out though, got 17 for £15,like it,with last OS sliders.

Well, I have always refused to try sliders.

But good god. This game, with Matt's sliders, in slow on Legendary; is absolutely sublime.

I have played several games now. Can't score. But it flows so nicely now.

The pity is - the vanilla game of FIFA 18, straight out of the box, is horrible. So I won't be going near online with this.

But my god. What a Career Mode I should have in store.

Thanks again to everyone who recommended sliders. I should have listened.

First impressions are so good, so very, very good, CPU just scored a worldy against me in the journey (Everton v LA Galaxy in the final of the pre-season tournament), such a wonderful volley from outside the box, looked amazing, only managed to grab one replay:

(ignore the name/tags they're automatic from Youtube I need to update them!)

Poor Koeman, even on FIFA things are not going his way :P

I played a few games on World Class with semi-passing and thought it felt a little too easy (which surprises me given that I always find World Class more difficult than Legendary).

So I switched to Legendary with assisted passing, expecting it to be too easy, given people's complaints.

Here's the entire match. Bolton (me) v Roda JC (AI). Legendary difficulty. Assisted passing, semi shooting. 8 minute halves. Slow. Sliders from @Matt10 and the Operation Sports guys. EDIT: Whoops, nope, no sliders, my settings weren't saved last night for some reason! So this is actually default sliders, on slow!

Cards on the table, and without wanting to make a fool of myself when some awful pattern emerges (and I've only played a few games so far) - but I'm really enjoying it.

Having said that, there were definitely naff bits... The main one being the scoreline (the defending side of the game is definitely in need of a patch or two), but also:

1:00 - my defender was glued to the floor for a moment after making the tackle

3:33 - goalkeeper makes a bizarre save, instantly ducking and putting his face behind the ball / his hands

4:45 - a goal is scored and the commentator says "one of the goals of the season", and firstly, it's not a regular season match, secondly, it was the very first game

6:27 - corner flag penis (I think this needs a theme song)

24:24 - mental bug where the ball enters hyperdrive and leaves the stadium / planet

That cam looks great, can you give me some more info on that one.
Looks like tele zoomed way out?

Watching that has just reminded me - I know it's a silly thing, but, having to choose a "manager head" from a group that look nothing like the user (i.e. me) is a bit depressing.

Every time the camera cuts to my manager, I'm just reminded that my namesake is a total stranger. At LEAST let me put a beard on him.

That's why I've built up an absurd backstory for my manager over the last year. I choose the manager that appears to be Japanese for every single career mode, and I name him "Mr. Konami." He's an ex-yakuza right hand man that used his financial muscle to land his first managerial position in Europe. He has a bias towards Asian youth prospects and snorts coke at half-time to get fired up for his team-talks. The worse the team performs, the more coke he snorts. He also received a three match touchline ban for ripping off his suit jacket and revealing his dragon tattoo on his back in an attempt to intimidate the linesman (which also lead to media speculation of his origins). He may, or may not be a 1,000-year-old yokai that took the form of a human.

Yes, I am a child.

Man I'd play this over any boring, dull story mode. Maybe I'm a child too :D .

Fuck sake got my transfer finally and now Alex Hunter is in a worse team than west ham, and it’s 451 again.

Every game pretty much 0-0and I do fuck all. It’s torture.

What tactics do you guys enjoy using?

Do you choose pre-set ones like possession or counter attack?

Or do you use your own custom tactics?

Normally 4-2-4 with overlapping full backs, wingers staying wide and central strikers remaining central.

If I feel I might need to defend a bit then 4-3-3 Attack with the same instructions.

Sounds good. What do you use though i.e. Counter attack or High Pressure?

I want to play a controlling game but possession feels too rigid.

The beauty now of the pass speed value...is that it can be played on Normal Speed:

are the AI attacking less? EDIT no when they concede then they go for it, looks really great especially with the more balanced full backs

that AI goal was really League One standard, top stuff Matt are you going to look at injuries and fouls next?

So back off holiday anyone know a good place to get this for digital download or just buy it from the store?

This is for Xbox one

I started playing with Matt's sliders, switching between legendary and worldclass, on broadcast cam! Assisted passing though. But it's a loooot of fun. Damn. I love it. Very immersive. :)
I'm on default passing etc but still loving it with the sliders.

Great game, every match feels so different.

Yeah only played a few matches now with sliders. So I don't want to judge everything just yet. Small sample size and everything. First game I was dominated by atletico madrid and lost 4-1, next one I'm dominating Huddersfield (same diff level) and they actually played like a lesser team (more errors, panicked clearances, long balls and crosses) won 2-1. This is great to see. Teams seem to play differently and are their own difficulty level which is long overdue. Fifa16 uninstalled for good.

I also feel like there are 3 different games hidden here. The default version, the sliders flavour on slow speed, and then the sliders flavour with semi/manual controls. It's amazing how much different the game can be, and all 3 flavours are viable thanks to all the game options (I'm NOT a regular semi/manual player, but the trainer arrow helps me a lot).

On the negative side, I see most of the issues that most of you saw. Few fouls yes, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Seems to depend on team/score and even the referee. And I agree that the defensive AI could use a small boost. A bit concerned with the number of shots & goals. Also concerned if a patch will help with these or will make matters worse in typical EA fashion! Thinking of backing up the whole game directory, lol.

I've had quite a few freekicks in dangerous positions and penalties awarded to me (and against me) so far. I actually think the fouling is completely fine. Refs are mostly good. The collision and fouling animations are great as well.

Anyone having colour contrast issues? Seems like the game is too bright. Unless the kits are VERY different, its giving me a lot of kit clashing that wasnt really in 17.

I experienced that a lot in the demo. I'm colourblind though, so probably the reason. Haven't ever experienced it to this degree in a football game before though. Haven't noticed anything in the full game yet, seems to depend on the lighting in the stadia.
