FIFA 18 (Console Versions)

This is great ..had a nil nil as Liverpool v Newcastle..some close moments in there but was a battle..next match I tried man u v Bolton as I've read lower teams play like barcelona ..rubbish..they had under 45 % possession ..i really dominated with some great individuism shining through..pass rate 78% and shooting 50% ..6 shots 3 on target

Sweet.

I have bought this from GAME as I had 70 quid on my account.

Will try it later and give my thoughts.

My first opinions on the game so far (slow, legendary, only against cpu, sliders are the ones of the trusted @Matt10 with my only difference in two points more on marking by CPU) ), preloaded the vanilla version days before on Origin and played yesterday night for the first time and some bit this morning.

What I like:

-Physical contrasts of any kind at undisputed number one, fantastic job by EA here, almost state of art, I see a different and genuine random battle on every sprint, dribbling and body contact, I'm also taking a good bunch of free kicks with ball protection, hope they'll not screw this with later patches, so far it's the best feature of this new chapter, really refreshing.
-Player characterization seems very good, it was nice in 17 but this year they took it a notch higher even by CPU controlled players it seems (played a game against Barça.. Messi was Messi.. the same could be said for other superstars.. we'll see in the long run tho).
-Ball physics on shoots, rebounds, passing is also very satisfying and realistically situational. I need more time to verify this but first impressions are veery good.
-The cpu also doesn't seem like the terrible thing described until now. It plays very well offensively, and we already knew that, but I don't know if it's the sliders, or my play style, but I had neither many high score goal numbers, neither terrible CPU defenders. Needs more testing as well.

What I don't like:

-The pace, even with the sliders and even on slow, I think it's still too damn fast for my tastes. The passing and the shooting reduction of the sliders helps a bit, but I think we need to work on it someway. I'm afraid to touch sprint and acceleration values as last years they used to fuck up the game but we'll see. I trust Matt and the other modders.
-Player models, seriously I think it's time EA gives a complete rework to the shape of his players, I don't know if it's just me but bright-shirted teams especially have an horrible return and generally so much more could be done here.
-Lightnings, What happened here?! I think in 17 was almost perfect. Daylight is kinda better to me, and at the same time the night atmopshere is too dark.

Then there are the animations on which I'm a bit fighted, on a side I like the new, numerous adds and the fluidity of some, on the other I can't understand why we still have some horrible flashy ones. Need to see more.

Generally speaking, the most important thing above all in a soccer game to me is VARIETY as you can't play sport title of this kind by having always the same natured matches, the same stuff happening on the field.. and the first impressions on this vital facet are surely good. I'm more a Pes player myself, but I'm not an ultras and when they do a good job I play both games without problems.. I rather focus on the good things and while I still prefer Pes as a whole, I think this Fifa has a lot to offer.

@Madmac79
Since you play pes too.. how do you feel about player heaviness and controlling them in fifa18 full version compared to pes..

Seeing @Matt10 vids makes me want to play really interesting. but from fifa demo, players feels too light in movement, as if half flying..

Yeah, they do feel light. This, and the super quick pass animations were my two initial gripes with FIFA 18 coming from Pes 2018. You do get more used to it as you play though, and I believe Matt's sliders will fix the quick pass animation issue.

I prefer Pes in this honestly, but I think in absolute Konami did an outstanding job with players heaviness and the way they feel when you control them! That said I think in Fifa players still feel a bit light, but the newly found physicality helps a lot and when we'll find a way to lower the pace it surely will feel better in this side too..

I played a few games on World Class with semi-passing and thought it felt a little too easy (which surprises me given that I always find World Class more difficult than Legendary).

So I switched to Legendary with assisted passing, expecting it to be too easy, given people's complaints.

Here's the entire match. Bolton (me) v Roda JC (AI). Legendary difficulty. Assisted passing, semi shooting. 8 minute halves. Slow. Sliders from @Matt10 and the Operation Sports guys. EDIT: Whoops, nope, no sliders, my settings weren't saved last night for some reason! So this is actually default sliders, on slow!

Cards on the table, and without wanting to make a fool of myself when some awful pattern emerges (and I've only played a few games so far) - but I'm really enjoying it.

Having said that, there were definitely naff bits... The main one being the scoreline (the defending side of the game is definitely in need of a patch or two), but also:

1:00 - my defender was glued to the floor for a moment after making the tackle

3:33 - goalkeeper makes a bizarre save, instantly ducking and putting his face behind the ball / his hands

4:45 - a goal is scored and the commentator says "one of the goals of the season", and firstly, it's not a regular season match, secondly, it was the very first game

6:27 - corner flag penis (I think this needs a theme song)

24:24 - mental bug where the ball enters hyperdrive and leaves the stadium / planet

I think it was 6pm, overcast. What may make it worse is that I've played it in HDR and so it's been "converted" to standard upon recording (according to the PS4's warning message)...
I see.

So HDR is only available on consoles by the way? Or it will work on PC if I get a HDR monitor?

Has anyone had the issue where if you misplace a pass, the cpu will drag your selected player half way across the pitch to retrieve it instead of letting you simply switch to the player closest to the ball?

I get this quite often too, but something that come to live with at the moment.

So bloody annoying the way they removed last year (and didn't return this year) the option to choose between custom team sheets during matches, so many times you want to change your formation to chase a match or protect a lead and have to sit there faffing about creating new formations on the spot because your perfect 2nd and 3rd team sheets aren't available outside of the pre-match menus :(

Know it's off topic, but i just got my Switch version. Wow am i impressed. it's a hybrid thats for sure, but it's got everything you'd want. I actually can't believe i can undock this game and walk around with it.
Not at all interested in a Switch but I've got to admit, that sounds great, and the game looks great. If I could get Football Manager on it I'd be in. (Bought a £300 second-hand Surface Pro just for Football Manager because I'm an idiot.)

You are not an idiot.

My laptop broke earlier in the year and just so I could continue playing FM on the go, I bought an £800 HP Omen - Just for Football Manager.

Although it can play FIFA in HD and many other games in medium settings, it is basically just for Football Manager.

I don't mean to sound cheesy or cliche. But the Nintendo Switch restored my faith in gaming as a fun activity. Gaming stopped being fun for a while, when i got the switch, It become fun again, it's an amazing console with the best game ever made in it's library.

FIFA18 on switch has everything the PS4 has, except for graphics.

I mean the same sliders for user and cpu but the difference only if i play in world class or legendary ?
The numbers show the user, then CPU values, e.g. 40/50 means 40 for the user, 50 for the CPU.

But if you play on a difficulty lower than World Class/Legendary, those sliders will make the AI a little too easy, I'd guess. You could always try them and make your own adjustments!

I always play on legendary but when i tried the demo i feel it become a little bit easy on legendary so i will try the sliders when i got the full version tomorrow and i hope it will make a difference .. thanks for your reply

First impressions are so good, so very, very good, CPU just scored a worldy against me in the journey (Everton v LA Galaxy in the final of the pre-season tournament), such a wonderful volley from outside the box, looked amazing, only managed to grab one replay:

(ignore the name/tags they're automatic from Youtube I need to update them!)

Watching that has just reminded me - I know it's a silly thing, but, having to choose a "manager head" from a group that look nothing like the user (i.e. me) is a bit depressing.

Every time the camera cuts to my manager, I'm just reminded that my namesake is a total stranger. At LEAST let me put a beard on him.

First time I have ever applied sliders. Legendary difficulty.

Playing as my Brighton boys, this game is very good.

I can't score a goal. Not conceding many either but only played exhibition games so far.

Will start a career over the weekend I think.

Anyone find the game harder with @Matt10 sliders? I think it is.

This game on normal speed default sliders is horrible.

Has anyone done any of the Journey this year?

The mode is amazing but is a fucking grind as a sole striker at west ham in a 451.

Picked west ham as his club on fifa 17 as I assumed there’d be a transfer to a better side, and may be fun with payet etc. It wasn’t it was a grind.

Now it’s a year later and I’m still relying on this shit team.

Hope I can force a move.

I tried to finish it in 17 so I could "continue" in 18 but I just didn't enjoy it enough to carry on, I really don't like it.

If they merged it with Be A Pro so that I could be me and start off at the lowest level, I'd 100% be all over it. But as it is, I can't get into it.

Unfortunately I think Alex Hunter is going to be in every bastard game from now until he's "retired"... :BORED: But the kids love him, so... Sigh.

Anyone having colour contrast issues? Seems like the game is too bright. Unless the kits are VERY different, its giving me a lot of kit clashing that wasnt really in 17.

Would love if Player career had that TLC,but it feels a bit weird being doing the Alex Hunter thing
We've had the same feature in 2k since I started playing it -13
Last career I was a white Swedish boy who grew up in Harlem, keeping it realz.
Great story mode,but...
