Thanks bro but the links disappears, i can't even see the preview image, neither going on the vid directly on Youtube

Just type this on Youtube:

"2001/02 DB for FM21 Trailer"

Enjoy the footage, and ignore the FM DB part :BOP:

(I think the link disappears because has footage from lots of leagues for copyright reasons, but it's pretty awesome...)

I still remember the Hleb's header that practically gave me my first ML title in Pes 5 in the direct clash some 15 years ago. Not so weird after all.. or maybe we all are lol.
Ha, you were talking about PES? Yes i remember tons of goals.

One in particular : you remember how hard it was to dribble normally on PES1 in a very quick area?
We were playing our first "Sunday PES" league, 2 teams by players you could've choose one big, one very low, or two average etc.
Was calculted by the team strength in ML, we settled teams.

Well, I gotted Leverkusen as i loved that team in CL in 2nd team, and Lazio from first team. But they Leverkusen wasn't already strong : we all really discovered them on the UCL, with Ballack etc. (players likenesses was theres, but weak, in comparison to PES 2)
I don't even know how i've done it, in a very small perimeters, i dribbled 4 players a row and they were super close to me like on step was too much, i don't even remember how i got that responsiveness to avoid those defenders and place a shot, and scored. He gotted his first team, Arsenal btw so not a weak team. And i've done it with Neuville (not that strong at all at the time)

>>>Also, i discovered that from PES 1 to PES 2, they upgraded ALL players by +10 in all stats... Except between 94 and 99 who gotted a different range : like it was said .
I almost found the "Seabass system" hidden from how many points was between 95 to 96, etc until 99. Was not that complicated, like 2 point then 2 points again, then 3 point again and 4 points or something like that for 98. It wasn't rounded (like closer to 97 will be 96)
Now that i got WE5FE and stats are more up to date, i can better see the range. I don't think they changed it on PES 3-4-5-6.

Nice recount. Must have felt special, I remember that dribbling was quite hard on Pes 1 indeed (was probably the game I played the most multi, at least in Ps2 era). Also really interesting to think about the stats boosting, wonder what was the train of thought (if there was any) that made them remodel the database upwards. Speeding up things to make it (supposedly) all more exciting? Just a "cosmetic" decision so players would get more pumped seeing stronger players?

Fascinating.. after all, as someone wise once said, if we understanding the past we understand the present too.

@Mathgamer Please, I beg you to stop posting things like that here. It's nothing personal against you by the way.
But I've already had enough with the nonsensical posts by Lygaard. Now this Luthor guy. I'm absolutely tired of attention seekers.

Someone posting a picture of their shoes at random or their passport it's hardly related to this game. Doesn't matter if he works at Konami or IKEA.

We need to be smarter and filter what really is worthy to be posted here and what's better to be left for the Twitter guys to "dissect" or play their little guessing games -

"Oh his passport color! Must mean Bordeaux is licensed!!! OMG". Cut this crap.
Haha, annoying as such a tweet is, I think it's meant to be about the Konami playtests coming up.

Spoony Pizzas put up this today, and another YouTuber (Camaldinho) something similar. So I think by Tues/Weds we'll have some hands-on feedback by some English-speaking playtesters at least.

Looks good to me.

It's really on WE10 that they've changed the stat system, you can see there was a "special" system to makes players represented better.
Like some player like Trezeguet, he was fast on PES 2 and 3. But the thing is : he looked fast as he was very very reactive (so he gotted 95 i think in reaction, and 78 in both speed/acceleration, 72 or 75 in Precision Dribble and low value like 66 or 68 in Speed Dribbling.
I remember very well his set, i was all about stats and decrypting them, how they rated players. The system was very smart to reproduce player, no ID needed, just some rank who created special skills (95 in Precision and 90 in agility for example > elastico like Ronnie)

He was a "without ball" player, a very classic number 9, but more static. Inzaghi in counterpart got good speed but not too much (both reaction and speed were linked as speed stat), very high reaction, but more in Dribbling speed, and like around 71-72 in 76-78 in speed dribbling. Of course, less in Balance, rare were "tanks": many players with high Balance (let's say body strength) who were fast got low acceleration, high speed, or average. Drogba was a semi tank with 88 or 90 and around 85 in both Speed/Accel for example, but there were never super heroes. Always a decrease on some stats, but stats were linked so... I remember, for example, Henry, in my case, wasn't the type of player i manager to play good with.

Or some player who were too fast in dribbling, so harder to control, that i couldn't play pretty good with them (i don't remember if it was Recoba on PES 4, but he gotted around 95 in both speed and precision dribble. Too much touch too fast in a small perimeter)
Some stats were also a bit negative, like Defense too high for a CF, good for helping the defense but annoying if you wanted him to be higher on the pitch, he gotted a tendancy to going back when the other team was in possession. Especially if he was average in Aggression (aggression > aggressivity in attack that's all)

Pretty hard to represent a player but the database got more way less teams and way less youngers who don't ever play one game in their rosters. They only placed players they gotted information by Opta and Jstats, and they watched a lot of game like they said.
Was a completely other way to build a game. Internet on 2002... Well, you didn't got as much info. There was books and all. They didn't got scouts or data editors, perhaps big max 10 guys working like fools to build the database.

Edit: you can switch those post to the "Retro-Corner" if you wants, Moderators or whatever. Sorry, just explaining a system, how complicated it was. Perhaps too much, but FIFA gotted inspired by it, even if i don't like their too dynamic system and too high range (lost 30 points in one season on speed + stamina due to whatever, injury or i don't know, if they don't play at all, please... Found another system then. I think they don't do that anymore as people have complained about it)

Isn't it weird I still remember a wonder goal by fecking John Carew from when he was in Valencia? It must have been PES 4 or 5 maybe. I'm 40 years old for God's sake. Sorry for being OT.
It's not just me then! I remember scoring a scissor kick with Alan Shearer for England from just outside the left hand corner of the penalty box on ISS 98. I even called out to my mum while she was making dinner to come upstairs to watch it.

Another goal I remember was while playing a co-op World Cup as England with my mate on either PES 5 or 2008. We got to the final and he scored the winner with Rio Ferdinand from just past the halfway line. Was so epic. Maybe it's on a memory card somewhere.

I hope Random Selection match eventually makes a return on eFootball. Was so happy when that returned in 2019 or 20 was it? Did upto two player swaps with my mate and one game I stole his two goalkeepers so he ended up sticking Danny Ings in goal. Ings kept me out all match as I bombarded his goal with shots from everywhere. He then threw Ings up top for the last 5 minutes and he ended up scoring a last minute winner to make it 1-0. Outrageous, but hilarious.

Too true mate! I didn't even know they had brought it back, as I was out of the loop for 19-20. I remember one stage this is all we would play when couch co-op. A room full of lads arguing over players & the most intense matches! Always ended up in absolute scenes, & occasionally broken furniture :LMAO:

I used to fill up my replay gallery with tons of goals.....well...not tons, as it was limited to 10, I believe?
But right now a volley goal from out of the box by Gerrard comes into my mind on PES 2009.

did you, when all slots were filled with replays, delete one to make space?!
man, i had a list of what goal is what and then i deleted the "least exiting one" to have a free slot!

All this nostalgic chat has just made me realise how many football games I used to have on PS1 other than games from the PES series. I grew up on Sensible Soccer and SWOS on the Amiga, so when I got my PS1 I spent a good few years before settling down with ISS/PES as my go to game. Think my PS1 list of football games I owned (excluding PES games) was: Adidas Power Soccer, Actua Soccer 2, World League Soccer 1 & 2, FIFA World Cup 98, 3 Lions, This is Football and LiberoGrande. Gutted I traded almost all those in as would like to go back to some of those. World League Soccer in particular. I remember its shooting was similar to Sensible Soccer in that you pushed the opposite way on the controller when shooting to give the ball more height and you could add crazy amounts of curl. A lot of freedom with the shooting on that.

I was lucky/sad enough to have a means of preserving mine with this capture card. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00005JINI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_B4DYG7KM1F369NNJWRFD

Although only some PES 3 clips have stood the test of time:

Most of the goals aren't even good. 😕
 i had a look and skipped some scenes. when i watched that one scene where number 10 fools the keeper and puts it in gently... i thought to myself: man, that looks like Adriano only the shot speed is off... i rewinded and it was indeed Adriano!

slowest shot ever from him, i say!

man, just this morning i wanted to post a story about one of my favorite players in the game back then; it was Adriano!
BOOOM!! what rockets he could unleash! unreal back then! my mates at home had fear in their eyes when i had him at the sticks! :D

edit: i do will always remember him like this! :D

Riquelme in Villarreal is my favorite PES- player. I remember playing back to back matches against a mate where I was Villarreal and he was Roma and I would do these manual passes (:l2:+:x:) with Riquelme and splitting his defence wide open. Every time Riquelme got the ball I felt more creative, it might have been placebo but it was such good feeling having the ball with these classic playmakers.

So reading that player- ID being removed or even more washed out is really the death of PES for me. Thats why I regard eFootball as a whole new game, because it will never deliver the things which made me love PES

Sorry if this has been posted, but does this mean it's the end of the road for league licenses on PES?

FFS

It's good then, if you see footer of efootball website they don't even mention any leagues, now compare it to previous page

https://www.konami.com/wepes/2019/us/en-us/
https://www.konami.com/wepes/2020/eu/en/pc/
https://www.konami.com/wepes/2021/eu/en/pc/

At this point i'm not even surprised anymore if they only include fake league. Konami need to be tortured until its last breath they deserve it.
