The Retro-PES Corner

Look at this relic. I just discovered it...
Well, for those of us who live in the West, it's become familiar to use PES. But Konami kept releasing Winning Eleven.
But what I didn't know was that for Winning Eleven 2012 and 2013, Konami made available a DLC that includes all the clubs from the J-League 1 and 2 divisions. All the players are official, with their faces.
Check it out, with the legendary narration of Joh Kabira. :D

On PC, there is a patch, which is amazing, it was converted to DLC. For those who are interested, I will leave the link. The J-League is impeccable, it is so perfect.

Bought the Japanese game and set up a Japanese PSN account just for this DLC back in the day

On an unrelated note, I'm looking for an iso called WE10 original season. Can't remember if I found it here or somewhere else...

Yes do you still have the console and access to the DLC? If so, get in touch!

Patched Iso requests for:

World Soccer: Winning Eleven 6 - Final Evolution (JP)
World Soccer: Winning Eleven 7 International (JP)
PES 2014

To be compatible with OPL (PS2), and to be patched with English Text and English in game commentary. As well as widescreen, real kits, real emblems, squads, transfers, everything unlocked, correct team and player names etc... all relevant to the season represented in the game. Or do please make recommendations if there is a particular ISO or whatever that is popular in the Retro PES community with regards to these titles.

Thank you and god bless! Sorry if you are atheist and I have caused offence 😛

So, in continuation of the topic about PES 2008 about which there is a separate topic, I started playing the next version — PES 2009 (American version) to compare whether they are similar to each other.

I chose the same default team in ML as in version 08. Playing at the highest level is just as difficult. AI does not forgive mistakes and puts pressure. But AI 09 seemed to me a little human in the sense that it also has weaknesses and also gets tired. And the opponents are not all right with teamwork at the beginning of the season, as is our team.

I also noticed that if at the beginning of the match the opponents manage to close the zones and play tight in defense, then after 60 minutes they become less organized and space appears that they rarely manage to close. My team begins to have approaches to the penalty area more often.

In the 08 version, I didn't notice this, which confused me. After all, the AI plays pressure as it seemed to me without any consequences for itself.

So I played 5 matches and lost all of them with a total score of 0:14. :)
Statistics from one of the matches.
Pcsx2 Screenshot 2024.11.26 - 17.05.11.44.png

So far 09 reminds me of 08, but it's better in terms of fairness to a person playing against the AI.
A clip from the last match I played. How diverse the goals were scored to me.. Especially the last goal. Wow.

Since we are the worst team plus I am not the best player, the team is predictably in last place. In the first half of the season, we had only one opponent where it felt like they were on the same level as us. These are the same terrible Ado Den Haag.

In the match with them, there was less pressure and less skill and reliability in defense. We were winning 1-0 for a long time, but we could not hold on to the victory.

This is something that was not in PES 2008, where even outsiders like us played like the leaders of the championship. Here, in PES 2009, there is still a difference in the classes of teams, but only we are so weak that we have only one opponent on our equal, to whom we scored the only goal in the championship.
Pcsx2 Screenshot 2024.11.27 - 20.01.45.72.png

I still do not know what idea I will stick to in this ML, that is, go to the transfer market or continue to play with this squad? Do you still do reinforcements...

I still want to check PES 2010, 11, 12... Yes, I read that they are worse than 08. But I just want to understand why.

Match against Ado Den Haag

I think I like this stadium the most out of all the ones Konami has created. So comfortable and beautiful!
In my opinion and with all the respect to all the stadium makers, no one beats konami regarding stadiums, especially on PS2 era, from the PS3 generation onwards actually the stadiums created by the stadium makers look really good.

They have great shadows, crowd efects, intro animations, and artificial lights on the night-rainy climates, they don't need any HD textures to look good, and because of that they are lightweight and easy to share online.

They only really need better coloured turf textures and more easy methods for modifying them for creating alternate versions (UCL, UEL, FWC, EURO, etc), or using them as a base for creating other similar stadiums.

Yes, it's a slower approach, less dynamic and fast, perhaps more "sim" approach than the others versions.
People should try it, it's a good "alternative" let's say, and graphically different. On my top 3 or 4 PES/WE.
After PES 2008 and PES5, i would loved to edit that one, same process : summer edition with missing transfers and kits.

Ah yes @marqisspes6 i found a way to edit PES 2008 or any other PES hidden player, with EPB Biazotto tool. Just need to replace the "unnamed.bin" from PES 2014, and it open the database. Got a YT vid if you're interested but i don't think lol. WE9 got TONS of Asian NT, if not all Asian NT hidden... PES 6 got a pretty low number of hidden team in comparison to others PES/WE.

PES5 don't have it (fortunately, it's work in more if you want something completely edited and real).

I'll repost the version as i translated a lot of teams names for NT Hidden and AFC Hidden for J-League version (JL2008, JL2007, JL2009 if i remember well) etc.

@vialli82 thank you so much for sharing this, it's a great resource for finding rare player's stats in those hidden national teams or for anyone who wants to recreate the copa libertadores for a specific year (2010-2013) for example.

I wanted to ask you have any possibility to add some of the physical appearance values of those hidden players in these spreadsheets, only with the skin color and hair color config would be more than enough for recreating them in other versions of PES, best regards.

This match was so tough. Zagreb was just so charged with rough play and constant pressure that I got the impression that my team was just scared of them. Something was not working for my team. Constantly losing the ball and so on. We couldn't even get close to the opponent's goal, let alone even shoot at their goal once.

This was destruction.

i just realized that PES went on till pes 2014 on the ps2 - apart from 2008 which everyone recommends, which later ones might be even better?
Hi, i was reading the 20-30 last pages and i'm surprised no one have mentionned JLWE2008CC.

To me at least, that game reach perfection regarding unpredictably outcomes, so more different situation (ball physics), speed and game balance between Attack, midfield and defense.
The issue, same as every J-League version out the same year or after PS3 and PC version, don't got all the tools you can found for PES 4-5-6 and the cherry on the cake : J.League versions are the hardest when it cames to create patch with all kits. And unfortunately on that one : La Liga isn't licenced at all (and super hard to reproduce with the in-game editor).
I'm trying to found a system to at least got some super hard spanish kits to create like Espanyol as an example, but i got no idea how to relink kits.
The way the game is conceveid (with 0-text etc., same database system etc etc) is the same as PES6, but you can found PES6 PS2 patch with EVERY single kits in the game :( To me it's a big loss of time lol but if Brasilians principally and many others South American love it....

WE9 jap got too much faults even more than PES 5 which i found "acceptable", and ultra defensive > some may say that it's the most sim version as it's the hardest to score. I'm also all for good and easy defending like in all Retro Pes, but that one was too much, and scores wasn't that realistic if in every game you score one to 3 goals. Sometimes there's high scores with tons of goals.

WE10 (the most arcadey jap version, and faster too) and PES6 were oriented attack, and sometimes buggy. I never really liked any of those versions.

Top 3 second postion i place WE2008 and then PES5 with PES 2008 ex-aequo (i love that version and it's balanced, but a to reactive and fast : on JL2008 you don't have to modify stats to get an acceptable pace. Still dynamic, but not faster than PES5.
If you replay it Vanilla or on Ps2, the game is fast but there's at least a battle in the midfield. Faster doesn't mean less balanced. More active like Seabass called his game "action football" so it fits.

Ah yes, there's one member i don't remember the name which love JLWE2010 : i never tried it but the AOKI version and it was surprising, and the best Ps2 version after the 2007-2008 era in my opinion. PES 2014 is fun too, they added a lot of new animations on it i noticed.

So, the first round of the competition is over. We have only one draw and 10 losses. We spend 8,000 thousand points on salaries, having only 5,000 thousand in the treasury. And there are still no guarantees that we will be able to win at least twice to cover the deficit, so in the transfer window I broke the contracts with the oldest players of the team. I managed to reduce the costs to 6,000 thousand. But we still need to cover about 800 points.

I hope that we will play at least twice in a draw in the next 11 matches. And if not, then in the summer transfer window we will have to get rid of a few more players to continue playing in the ML. These are the harsh realities of the second division.

You know, because I can only control the football part of the game, that is, use only the tools that the game provides to change something and finally win a few victories. This PES 2009 football game stuck in my head because it is really interesting and diverse. I started thinking that it could be changed. And I agreed that this is the game scheme.

For the first half of the championship, I was counting on 4-2-3-1 to score a few points somewhere from the defense. At the same time, the opponents still created many chances and eventually scored the goals they needed. And we, in turn, could not even make more than one shot per game.

An isolated lone forward in the attack is generally ineffective. There is also a lack of speed on the wings. And poor coordination makes the team static in developing attacking combinations.

So I thought, what am I losing? The AI is constantly trying to put pressure on me, often raising the defensive line high. Maybe it's worth trying a more attacking scheme?

And then I remembered the theory that in football there are five channels that need to be attacked in order to break the defensive formations. I wondered what the AI would say to that? Well, I still don't have enough strong players to play in any formation, and here's an attacking one...

Well, it's just an attempt to physically position the players so that something could be created near the opponent's goal. And so, the 3-3-4 formation with a libero in defense, who should provide timely cover for the defender and the wingbacks.

Pcsx2 Screenshot 2024.11.29 - 20.08.44.55.png

Did it work? Well, no. No — it became even harder to defend, but not harder than it was with the 4-2-3-1 formation, when 6 defenders were looking for me in front of my goalkeeper.

Yes, because we really had more chances near the opponent's goal! In one of the matches, we even had 8 shots and only poor skill prevented us from scoring. Sometimes the shot was above the goal, sometimes the opponent's goalkeeper saved the shot.

After all, I've only played three matches with this 3-3-4 formation so far. As before, we are losing and cannot score, but the main news is that we have started to get our chances to score much more.

Here's the news so far. I now have a few more options for who to put the direction arrows in the attack, but it requires considerations and testing.

The main advantage is that thanks to this arrangement of players, we got triangles that broke the opponent's defensive line between the full-back and the center. But even so, then we had space for a cross or for another combination, but the Nice defense in this case was often stronger and managed to play reliably against our forwards in the penalty area.

Here are some illustrations from the second cup match against Nice. It was in this match that we played according to the new scheme. The game did not decide anything, because we lost the first match at home 5-0. So we could take risks.

As i read some page ago, if it was you, that wants to test all PES out after the 2008 (pretty good idea) what you said here is one of the flaws, or gameplay bad choice of PES 2009 : xhen you play with a stronger team, shoot seems more locked to aim for the goal (i mean, with less big mess like it was the case on previous PES) and running with the ball is the best way to win.

On PES 2014 for example, players are slower and less effective on defense, but the passing flow is also slower, aswell as running. The game is more the Tactical Dribbling type : don't run too much to pass over the opposition, but make passes and dribble while running only when there's no players in front of you. Players seems more agile, there is more space and ball is slower like if the pitch was bigger.

Another philosphy and the rythm doesn't change that much : that's one of the difference before/after 2008 version while match rythm was dictated by yourself. The game is fun but there's some limits in terms of creativity in comparison to older PES.
I tried PES 2010 PS2 / the game seems similar as the 2009 version. But the WE2010 Aoki and certainly Jlwe2010 got the freedom like the old PES vibes.
I Understand why it can be one member favourite, as i was pleasantly surprised by the gameplay by trying the Blue Samurais version.
(also the game got the best preset face from all versions i tried
:JAY: like his counterpart on "next-old gen")

For it you have to open the game with a tool showing facebuild, i didn't found any export of all appearences personnaly. A bit normal as the preset faces/hair increased a lot version after versions.
I don't think Nomad show facebuild parameters, but Workshop and EPB Biazotto (based on PES 2014 but you can change the database exchanging the "unnamed*number*.bin" with another database of any games. Same for Workshop.
I tried Jlwe2008 and the intern database what unnamed74 for ig players and unnamed75 for hidden club player. I found a way to edit them on Hex directly without tool, just by opening my option file and made a copy-paste of the player's hex line (if i remember there's 9 lines to copy but not the 4 final hexadecimal value)

Hi, i was reading the 20-30 last pages and i'm surprised no one have mentionned JLWE2008CC.
I googled this game and found a post about it in this thread with an edited version.
https://evoweb.uk/threads/the-retro-pes-corner.78697/post-3907586

So I'll probably start the next season in this game. Because according to you, this is a very great game! So I'm dying to try playing another ML with the default team.

Because the end of the season in PES 09 pissed me off a bit :)

It's the Billykong version i'm working on and try to modify stuffs here and there (firstly a better OF for unlicensed club and missing text)
You can play or with a licensed league (better for authenticity) with the 20 or 18 teams, there's no relegation. But you can also choose 2 others options : J-league ML (thanks cap' obvious).

The funniest and probably the favorite for "old-schooler" is a big league with 2 divisions and much more clubs than in a regular ML.
The last idea was only on J-League version, unfortunately. There's no bug and japanese/korean players don't have the usual "350 points", they modified it for the first time in a WE/PES (on Jlwe2007 which is good too aswell as JLWE9 even if that version is not up to date but based on PES 5 database.

So for WE8JL , WE10 J-league + Europa and WE2007Jl you got to assign another nationality to every single jap and korean players... Boring. But marquis explained one HEX to erase for not having that issue and kept all those players their real nationality.

Edit: the only second patch for that game is the Brazuka's Brasileirao with tons of players rated too high and randomly replacing J-League authenticity ()
There's even practically all japanese stadiums on that version + the club history + different fonts if you choose a favourite japanese club etc. etc.
Tons of details for J.League, never a real football game given so much details about a league (i don't talk about manager's game)
Also 90-95% of japanese club players got a preset face ;)

You mentioned that you played PES 2010 for PS2 and mentioned that it was similar to PES 2009.

In your experience, have you noticed that almost all balls after ricochets from shots or during collisions between players, the ball always feels like it bounces and goes to the AI?

Isn't that what you meant, that in versions of the game after 2008 the ball feels less "free"?

To be honest i didn't remember : just that like his pc counterpart, shots were too often on goal and the issue with speed was similar to PES 2009.
Well let's say that they improved ball physics for more outcomes from PES5 to PES 2008 era, then they dumbed it, or simplified the ball direction probably to get more control when they change some stuffs between versions.

Now, i found the 2010 Aoki version quite different and more dynamic in the midfield, contact are okay and it's more defensive despite the simple ball physics which was a step behind in terms of variety and outcomes.

Can anyone please help me with getting PES2013 installed on my PC with kits etc. I have been struggling for weeks to get it to work. Somehow I have managed to get PES-Edit to work but Crystal Palace and Everton have no players and this crashes the game.

I was also trying to download a 2024 season update but I can't find any anywhere and how to install. I would really appreciate any help as I am dying to play PES2013.

has anyone tried or had much luck with the pte patch at all?
For which game? It used to be my go-to choice between 14 and 19 (before moving to the Evo-Web patch, which is its spiritual successor and my go-to choice aswell for PES 2020 and PES 2021).
The guys over at PTE always did a wonderful job.

That looks like

- issue with newer version of windows
- issue with your graphics card
- less likely but still probable, kitserver issue

You should make some test by yourself try without kitserver, if the problem is still there, then try on another pc with the same windows version, and if is still there, try with another windows version, i think it could be something with graphics card

Sorry bro but i don't have any aknowlege about deep editing. I'm still wondering how south american can make a PES6 with no slots for others clubs at all and all real kits... We're far from them about editing : they played on PS2 and modded games since 2002 to... 2024 lol

Well I do get this warning when I am loading every Pes game for 2010-2017. I mean it is running good all of them, but recent ones on low graphics. It also crashes when I load BAL on 2010.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it solved that problem, however the problem is now with all the division 2/Championship teams when using PES Edit 3.8. All teams stats are rated E and no players for the teams at all.

You got it too? i got that thing since some Win 10 updates. I couldn't launch even Pes 2008 in Hd with that damned notification.
Someone here give me kindly a solution but i didn't tried yet (sorry), it was about assigning kitserver files and all exe related to the game on Administrator.

I remember that i could install every old Pes game like i wanted in the past, but i read a lot of people getting issues like @ThisIsPB , you, and I :(
