The Retro-PES Corner

A somewhat less impressive Playstation 2, PES 6, Default Originals Challenge third season for me, than @rockstrongo 's excellent PES 2013 form.

Fourteen games and after thirteen fixtures, no wins and four draws. Won the last game but honestly the COM team could not hit a barn door the whole game and we were clinical to my amazement.
Now I just need 3000 points from the end of season friendlies. GULP.:SICK::SICK:
You forgot about my pes 2013 form, im 12th with 9 points from the leader valencia surprisingly

Back after a few days, had a couple of sessions on WE9LE last night. Playing with the prem teams I grew up with is so much fun while listening to Hard-Fi and Franz Ferdinand and other classic mid 00's indie rock bands.. it's like those after school summer evenings in my room listening to Zane Lowe again, life was good.

Had a few frustrating (in a good way) 0-0 draws, first as Arsenal v Blackburn at Ewood Park. Everytime one of my attackers touched the ball, I'd get fouled trip up pushed over you name it. They didn't wanna play football, they wanted kick me off the park. Gunners flair wasn't gonna do it for their bullish defending. Blackburn spammed lofted throughballs and the occasional one would put someone through on goal.

Felt fun though, not every match is smooth sailing and straightforward on this game, had another scrappy game as Newcastle against West Ham. Shearer vs Sheringham. You're not running at defenders with these two and the strategy was clearly to get it wide and spam crosses and hope Alan gets a trademark glancing header on or that enough chaos ensues in the box for him to poach it. Plenty of chances just shambolic finishing from both sides.

Best game I had was Spurs hosting Chelsea. Nice animation on Drogba's header when the corner was looking like an overshot and a fat Frank special from range.

That sounds great.

If that would somehow help you, I have been slowly updating PES3 Wendetta patch OF to include PSD stats (with slightly lower mentality and teamwork, as I think these work better in PES3 when they are lower on average), as well as Chinghis Khan tactics where available (Porto, Arsenal, Milan, Real, Barcelona, Valencia, Deportivo etc) or my own tactics created based on principles of Chinghis'.

In fact, i've got issue with the editor and PES3 since three days i've tried many think, and it become to ennoy me... And manually, it could take me 15-20 days or more... So your own file should be more interesting :)).
The fact is that i like to play with rosters from the season a game is released.

I've got project for PES 2019 to at least, try to concretise + another project with PES 6, and i've figure out how to find the time to.

Btw retried PES 3 from some some matchs and it's way too "restricted" and angular in terms of gameplay, the game have, for me at least not aged well at all, in comparison to every game from WE8LE to PES 6 pc/ps2 version.
well, WE8/PES4 and WE10 was the two worst and bad calibrated WE/PES ps2 era for me.

@Madmac79 , well done on the Division 2 Cup victory. I have always rated the D2 Cup as the toughest trophy to win, given how weak a squad a player normally has in Division 2.

I agree mate, D2 Cup is REALLY hard. Especially because in D2 you have usually a bad team and you are more focused on promo. I indeed can't remember winning it that much in the past.

My ML challenge that @miguelfcp mentioned.... I finally got promotion in season 6. D2 cup wins in those 6 seasons? None! Not a single leg! Which is probably why it took around 4 seasons to actually have the wage bill covered before the pre season friendlies for the first time! Must get back to it soon as I'd left it about four games into season 7 in D1 for the first time. Having the time and we9le have got in the way though.

@miguelfcp Zamenhoff has become something of a legend :D

The most interesting man in the world strikes again...and again.
...
Turns out he's a great dancer, a great keeper, a free kick taker, a penalty kick specialist and...a prolific corner kick taker (2 assists in 5 tries so far). The world of football is shocked as Fredriksson dominates the field in all areas of the game.

Round of 16 - WEFA Masters Cup vs. North London White - 1-2; 3-2 (ML United wins 5-3 on aggregate). Next up, vs. Man Blue on the quarter-finals
D1 Cup - vs. Galatasaray (lost 3-0 in the first leg, 2nd leg to be played later)
League - Bayern up front with 49 points, and after an amazing run of ours (which is still active) of 6 wins in a row, we're right behind them with 46. We still have a Bayern - ML United matchup near the end of the season so hopefully I'll at least keep this 3 point distance in order to use that exact matchup to try and clinch the 1st place of the league.

As for Benfica, they're not anywhere near as good as they were last season - in which they gave absolutely no chance to any competitor - and have fallen hard on the first few matches of this 2nd half of season. They're already 8 points away from us in 3rd place!

Less than 10 league fixtures until the end, it's beginning to look like we'll be able to finish at least in the top 3, probably in the top 2 even.

Mid season coming closer than ever, this game was the biggest challenge for me yet, after managing to secure a hardly fought win vs valencia at home, i had a visit to the hostile environments of chamartin, the bernabeu, a game as hard as it is hostile, with the likes of cristiano ronaldo, kaka, ozil and co against my modest side, i fought really hard and managed to escape a really close opportunity for them as the ball hit the bar and hit my keeper and was going in if not for my gladiator in defense demidov who managed to scrap it into touch, wouw that was a relief,it ended nil nil.
Im 11 th in the league 12 points behind the leaders barcelona, with osasuna second.......!!! Sorry yes osasuna second behind them...however that realism gone down the toilet lol

I was away a few days, but i kept reading. Some really nice and interesting stuff as always on this thread. I've been playing PES 2008 on PSP with the global adjustments i made up earlier in this thread, really good game. I wish there were more injuries, though. It might be due to the fact that in the default konami database A injury rating is too frequent. Oh, and playing long sessions on PSP hurt my hands so bad, which makes me wonder :

Have any of you guys managed to get a stable PES 2008 (or any PES post-PES 6) on PCSX2. I've been meddling with the settings, but i always get annoying stutter, despite having a very good computer. I don't mind bad graphics, but stuttering is unbearable for me.

Got the same issue with stuttering (on pratically every PES/Winning eleven) on PCSX2, that's not due to the computer itself.
I've found recently a post from a guy who have tried everything, and also some commentary complaining about stutter on whatever website commentary.
The cause is PCSX2 is missing fixes/patches on their plugins for this specific issue i think.

Started a ML on Pes 2010 with that 16/17 interesting patch I was talking about days ago.

I've been wanting to play some Premier League since a long time, so I choose the charm of Liverpool. No particular challenges. I've brought in Alisson and Salah as in reality, failed to bring in Van Dijk and Chamberlain. Worth to note that in this patch not only there is Jenkey's GP but also modified stats.. there are more or less all a bit lower than the norm but pretty accurate, if it wasn't for some fascinating exception like a 38 Karius overall.. profetic I'd say, considering this patch was done way before the notorious disasters:D.

Btw Everton knocked me out of FA Cup, and I had some mixed results in the League, ending up in 7th position after a bunch of matches. All varied and fun games, I've won my last one against Hull 3 a 2 when I was losing 1-2 at 85 minute mark, Emre Can and a nice volley of Coutinho giving me the victory. Now I'll have to face Barça in the first CL game :JAY:.

Nice to see players unhappy in the bench. Milner is angry at me since he's seeing the field less and less as well as Mignolet as I'm playing with Alisson instead of him. And in the worst case, Ojo has the heart completely broken in the team management screen. Nice touches.

The gameplay itself imo is really good for some more carefree play; fun and fast, but with some good depth in it. Of course it's also more than a bit messy.. sometimes it almost feels like developers were high on meth when they developed this one, in both the good and the bad sense :D .. due to AI behaviours and some occasional strange collision, I get a lot of strange and unprecented episodes.. which is kinda good as in it's clunkyness it adds a lot of randomness. But for example, referees man.. they are probably the weirdest ones of the pre next-gen.. they are capable to ignore tackles of a violence that would turn Sergio Ramos pale only to sanction minimal collisions.. go figure:D.
Seems like a good journey so far anyway.

Thanks @mattmid , matters mate, your encouragement is most helpful, will keep plugging away at this challenge as only at end of season 3 and Vornander (teenage re gen of the giant German) just knocked in a goal against AC Milan (a long drive from the edge of the box and he was the left back).

We lost that friendly 1 - 4 in the end but considering the Berlusconi boys probably spend more on hair gel and cologne than our total squad salary for a season. :NONO::NONO::NONO:

Keep going. How's Hamsun developing? Jaric became something like a 90 in free kicks. Just a shame his controller is rated a 25 on them.

Just a few gifs from my ML tester.

I enjoyed this goal from Erikson, we were holding on to a 1-0 lead when Erikson pounced on a mistake. Keeper comes out but he puts it in off the post.

Next game, Aurier so unlucky after a bit of persistence.

Same game, injury time 0-0 and Ali sets Son up lovely...

On the topic of carefully choosing which newgen to acquire for your ML team when playing the Generations Mode challenge...
Here's my 21-year-old newgen centre-back called Jackson, one of the only 3 newgens I was able to get in 6 seasons of save. He has evolved almost 15 points for each stat since I acquired him.

ssliOOM.jpg

I might as well start calling him Beckenbauer...even his hair is similar, only he's blonde. Blonde Beckenbauer it is.

Also @fmicablues7 yes there are plenty of injuries if you have injury set to B. In one game Kane fouled Kanemann heh heh and he was stretchered off. And then about 5 mins later Son was hacked down. Kanemann out for 6 weeks and Son 1 week. There have been others too. In my games and the CPU generated games.

Plenty of fouls too. One game was 4 by me and 8 by the CPU.

I certainly had a relief of coming away from the bernabeu with a draw vs a mighty side of madrid, two weeks after that, right at the end of first part of the season, the visit of the blaugrana, top of the league.
Game started slowly while using the 4-5-1 formation to stop these beasts in midfield of barcelona, leo messi needs two and three people marking him in this game as his trickery and dribbling speed is immense, on the other end victor valdes showed why he was the spanish nb 1 keeper after 2010, with two sublime stops to deny me a crazy win at home.
Nil nil it finished

They might even spend more on the ref

@mattmid , you will not believe this, GAME OVER number 6 after a calculation error as to how many points I could get from the last two friendlies at the end of the season.

My spirit is broken now as the Playstation 2 version of PES 6 is a real unfinished legacy console port of a game, too many gameplay issues to make any kind of go of it.

I am done. :COAT::COAT::COAT:

Don't give up man! The hardest the challenge, the better when you'll complete it!

@WhoAteMeDinner: Noooooo! You're almost there man! Remember you're playing one of the hardest challenges out there, only being able to get default regens...you'll be the first Retro-PES player to accomplish something out of it!
In fact, I'm adding up that challenge to our ML Vault right now.

Legacy of the Defaults: Same rules as Generations Mode, except that you can only acquire regens of the ML default players.

Just another game in Pes 2010. Draw a nice one against Barça. They pressed high and played some good tiki taka. Messi in the opening for them and Firmino with a nice shot in area for the equalizer. Fun match.

By the way, I (re) noticed a really nice thing. I was already thinking about a big, tall striker for january as I love Firmino but I need a good header to be complete and there simply aren't between my attackers. So I checked out my first choice, Dzeko, ready to make an offer.. only to find out he's injured for six months :JAY:.

Nice to see him and players of other teams having not only different and even severe injuries, but morale disparity as well. For example, I told the scout to follow some players, I simulated a bunch of games to see the reports (without saving, I'll play them myself later of course).. and some of them are struggling to find space in their team, some others are satisfied and so on. That's the simple stuff that actually make a career feel alive, like a small scale "world" simulation.

See, nobody expects FM on Pes.. this wasn't perfect, but it gave some really good depth.. and they pretty much nailed it 8 years ago, I don't understand what would be so complicated about giving us something similar in modern games, but I understand it's not the place for this kind of dialogue so for now I'll just be content to revisit it like i'm doing now :) .

@Madmac79 It's that Konami thing again. Oh this works well and people really like it, so we'll change that then. If they could just take all the good things from each version and put them all together... In the meantime we'll continue with retro pes!

Just look at where that shot went

Tales of Fredriksson part #427

"Oh, I can't score a free kick heh? Give me the ball then, I'll show you what! Deal with it!"
Despite his horrible shot technique stat (49) he has 81 shot power and 70 shot acc....for a 19-year-old, not bad at all (and for a keeper it's golden); in fact many 19-year-old strikers in PES struggle to have better shot acc. and power...

Another thing, look at this one. Player in black is Park Jyun Hi, who has 69 speed/82 acceleration. The other is Onuoha, who's a 97 speed/90 acceleration tank. When the video starts, Park is already jogging and will soon start running at full speed, while Onuoha still has to turn his back and then start running to catch the korean - an extremely disadvantageous situation. In just a few metres, Onuoha beezes by him like a Ferrari.
Nowadays kids must be wondering if there was ever a football game in which player stats had such a tremendous and quite obvious influence; PES2008 PS2 is certainly one of them: fast players are fast, slow players are slow, strong players are strong, weak players are weak.

@Madmac79 , @mattmid and @miguelfcp , thanks for the goodwill and encouragement. Will be playing my old favourite PES 3 ML with a mix of real and default players for a few days now and may go back to PES 6 at the end of next week.

Oh and lol miguel, thanks for the compliment, but the main reason I am only signing default re gens of PES 2 and 3 squad players is that I have no clue of the names of later games' default new gens.:SHOCK::SHOCK:

Without wanting to, you came up with a new challenge. I remember I was really tempted to get regen Minanda after the original retired on my ML but ended up getting Fredriksson over him - obvious choice, as regen Minanda was one of the worst players on that newcomer batch, far far away from the quality of the newgens and also real players' regens. It'd be a great storyline to get Minanda's "son" though...
Turning the default team into a "family" club is interesting indeed. And it must be one of the toughest challenges one could come up with.

Yep, I had exactly the same problem with the re gen teenage: Nachdecal, a stalwart DMF and SB utility default original player as good as Harty, Macco or Celnili. But the re gen version has terrible stats all in the low or mid-50s range. No player ever develops that much even in ten seasons, he would still have stats only in the 60s and low 70s.

:OT: What do you all think the ten or so Russian bots that are always looking at our Evo-forums are trying to find ? Missile launch codes or how to score a header in PES 6 ?

Nyet Comrades......:NONO::NONO::NONO:
