The Retro-PES Corner

Do you guys find 5 or 6 star difficulty harder on the PS2 games? What are the main AI differences between the two?

I'm on PC, but I have recently bumped up the difficulty and I find Top Player/5 Star difficulty more challenging but also less difficult, in many ways? It's become the perfect level for me, as I think it balances the difficulty on both ends, but I don't find the AI too overpowered when they attack and get better variety in my final scorelines in either directions. This is for both PES 5 and 6 and might entirely be a placebo, but I have found 5 star to be more enjoyable experience.

Again an appeal for moders: a gameplay patch for PES6 plz 📣

Here is some gameplay I recorded for fans of 1980s football. Started work on this OF 2 years ago but stopped for a while, it is an option file of Bundesliga 1982/83 season. Made stats for 13 teams until now. Most of them I had to make up by myself, using stats available in Pes Miti del Calcio for orientation, entering their stats in an excel to find out typical/average stats for players by registered positions, looking players up in google to find out more about them like position, playing style etc. as you can't find a lot of information or videos of most of them.

have you tried on pes5 with elaf tool and also the gameplay kitserver module?

I really didn't plan to make more Option Files after Laziale 2021, I didn't think I would feel like it but in the end the passion to edit and finish it got the best of me.

Now I am inserting kits and faces to the ISO of Pes 2008 (PS2), to adapt it with my OF Classic Laziale. In this case there is no rush to finish it, although in a few weeks I have made a lot of progress.
Great work btw, i will try it as soon as i can.
Mate, do you have something, a DKZ version or something like that to edit unplayable teams from World Tour?
I plan to make an iso with real names... And if possible, correcting height and put preset for some fakes players on it... But names only will be already really great. As with DKZ you can't really edit database for teams, only names ;)

But i just want to make a basic O.F., 2008 season but with an ISO corrected. If it's not doable, well, will probably just correct a bit an old O.F. i've found, pretty good and complete.

There's also teams in every others PES/WE with national teams, but i got absolutely no idea where they appears : World Tour mode has stopped since PES 2010 or 2009 (didn't checked) but the best version is PES 2008.
Perhaps in BAL mode or the other mode which you can select a real player, but still "BAL". Don't think they're in ML neither, it's a big enigma lol.

There's tons of teams 28 or 32 (with +- 15/16 players : not necesserary), and the mode is like the good old ISS with scenario at every match. But with fakes names unfortunately. on Asia teams you have no idea like Yemen, Syria, Vietnam etc.

3 week i'm searching something to edit it, every database editor etc., not a single one can or links are dead. I found 2 which edit PES 2013 and 2014.... But there's no World Tour so.
It's for PS2. At least names.

I got the excel / calc (.ods) file also for all PES and WE since WE9. I'll put the 2008 version on attached files just for you to check, i already posted the full package few pages ago.

Well there's a way to edit those players, its tricky but i think it will work, I'm gonna make some test and if you're interested i can create a small guide

have you tried on pes5 with elaf tool and also the gameplay kitserver module?

I've used the gameplay module but not ELAF, mainly because I don't play ML.

I don't know how I feel about gameplay patches. I like the kitserver one for PES 5, but I think with some tactical and stat adjustments, particularly by @Ciais and @Tinker, 5 and 6 play great as-is. I think the latest Phoenix patch is incredible work, yet I struggle with a couple things. One, I don't really require HD faces for a game that's 15+ years old now, but that's a personal thing. Second, the gameplay adjustments are mostly good, it feels like the ball is less connected to the players' feet most of the time, but I find shooting to be a problem. You have less time to hold the button and end up skying a ton of shots, and it's just so unsatisfying, particularly if you want to let a long shot rip. In the end, the stats are pretty accurate to what a real match would be in terms of shots and shots on target ratio, but I think the gameplay in that area has changed too much from the original (it's always been hard for me to score goals in 5 and 6, mainly because even after all these years, I'm not a very good player!).

I recently found @geezer's WE9LE 2021/22 update, and that's probably the one I'll end up sticking to for a current day version of retro PES.

Has anyone ever actually uncovered any evidence for scripting? Or a sort of “handicap”

I’ve always maintained that in ML games, the best teams are often quite easy to beat. Meanwhile, there are times when teams fighting relegation are just unbeatable. I had such a game earlier. Not that I necessarily think it’s a bad thing by the way.

Yes of course i'm interested, as long as it work, thanks for trying!

sorry for the delay, okay, what i thought actually works, first you need to download from this thread https://evoweb.uk/threads/pes6-tool-collection-by-rechi-new-pes6-ballphysics-editor.81521/ the tool called PES6 Hidden Player Editor, now from 0_text.afs extract the file 74, which is the file that contains this "hidden" players, okay, just open it with this tool and you will be able to edit the players, in fact take a look

imagen.png

Now there is a limitation, as you know this tool was done for PES6 which has less players and less teams how we can fix this? well... its a little bit tricky but if you have any hex editor you can do it

ok, so first of all, make a backup of your files as first instance. and extract the files with the zlib tool, open the first sub file with a hex editor

1 - Check the name of the last player that was recognize by this tool, in this case is MEGAHED, now we search for that player name in our hex editor or... as another magic trick you can do 124*390 the result of that calculation will give you the offset of the player we are talking about

2 - now just move from that offset 124 bytes until and you will see the start of the next player name which is SHALABI and the offset is 48484

3 - from that offset select until the last byte, (****)

4 - copy

5 - go to the start of file or offset 0

6 - paste

7 - re import the file 000 into the bin again, open this new bin with the tool and you will be able to edit those players

(****)
Important stuff take note of how many bytes you have selected, because you will need to select that amount of bytes and copy them to re paste from the offset 48484 this result file will be your fully edited file 74

Sorry for not include pictures but it will take me quite a lot to do it, but if you do it carefully you will understand this small guide

Thanks a lotttt mate, but you shouldn't hurry for it! I still got stuff to do before that.
I save the post then, very useful... I will try but i tried everything (zlib stuff i tried again and again i have no idea what it serve... Same as AFS/DKZ to extract and rename no?)

About Hex it's the same, i got HXH editor. But i don't understand a character from it.
Sorry but i got to forget about it after reflexion. I got Workshop editor perhaps with some modification someone made it should work.

It's a bit (not to say a lot) too complicated too me :(
But many many thanks for your time. My main stuff is editing option files on console, and using DKZ 15 years ago to apply patch so...

I can't promise i will do it in the really next upcoming time, but after taking a look at this tool maybe i could do mine which could be more flexible to when it comes to edit player from those hidden nationalities at least for those ps2 versions, but it will be like... at the end of may? not sure when but at least with this you can edit the first 630 players :) you will have more time to spare from that

I'll explain @marqisspes6 what's annoying me.
I'm using Nomad (2013 version, but i tryied 2008 version and got the same result)

Here, with the 2013 files you can edit hidden teams :

Nomad2013.png

You just have to go to EDICAO > EDITAR and you can. Syria, Hong Kong, everything. Same as We_Workshop does for WE10JL (not interested at all, JLWE2007-08 is by far better and more up to date)

Now the same, with PES 2008 (i tried PES 2008 version, same result)

Nomad2013-08.png

For every other version editable (WE10, PES 6, WE 2013 and PES 2010 to 2014) you can edit those teams.

I found another program EPB 2014 Editor and you can edit 2014 hidden teams.... But they're just "forgot" in the database. They don't appears anywhere else.

That's with those type of tools that i could make something. Otherwhise, it's impossible to me.

Maybe i'm missing something, but what is that it doesnt work for you? so you can edit them but you cant save the file properly?

I ain't afraid to edit names and Height/weight for 630 players. I did it for +- 5000 players (some left) from PES 2018 to 2019, checking every pictures, on excel.
And some i didn't take notes (from PES 18 and 19). But it's far easier as it's NT, there's numbers corresponding... More than 16 years old players from French D2 or Liga Aguila/Qatar teams ;). And i will took my time of course. It's a 14 years old game, 6 month or one year while doing my O.F., time to time, won't be than hard..

It edit unplayable teams for PES 2013. But not when i open PES 2008 : the last version with World Tour on it.
Edit/ I just want in priority to change names and Height/weight. No kits or whatever else.

World tour are missions with scenarios like good old ISS (dribbling the keeper, score 2 header etc.)
And with the recoil... I believe that PES 2008 is the best PS2 version from all time. No joke. I played it vs PES 5 and there's more variety and better ball physics, also more animations/micro-animations. The game is slower.

ohh... not sure if i can help :/ maybe i will download some iso and play some to find it properly and see what i can do!

The only way to change, at least, names, is to add the game on DKZ SLMP-XXXX and open with DBeditor. But the DbEditor is completely broken for everything else except names lol.

Ok, i re read the comments, gonna ask again maybe im really not understanding something, just like pes6 international challenge pes 2008 has those unplayable teams, right? you only need to edit the names, height and weight for those players, right? if that's what you need then use the tool i mention before, you will be able to edit some stats too, those players are located at file 74 in 0_text after you edit it then just import it back to 0_text and rebuild the iso, that should work

This is hard to prove either way. But there does seem to be times when you can just "feel" the cpu will score and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I feel the option file is where the damage is done, but I can't prove this. Something I recently started doing is alternating my ML and just a random cup game. So I play 1 ML game, and then go play a cup game, so so forth. This could be completely placebo, but through 11 games in my ML I haven't felt any scripting or cheating yet. Playing as Spurs, I have lost to Arsenal 3-0, and have beaten Blackburn 3-0 as well. This is on PES 2008 PSP.

Personally i don’t feel the scripting in the PES’ ive played on the PS2. I think if there is then it is realistic and it’s based on the player’s stats. The reason I say that is I have had games where the CPU is pummelling my team and them scoring is inevitable but with concentration and with luck I have held on. But then i have had games where i have missed sitters and then the CPU scores. I suppose that could be scripting either way but i think stats like Mentality play a huge part. If someone has low Mentality then suddenly they stop controlling the ball etc. I find playing bigger teams harder than smaller teams.

That is when playing PES2008 on the ps2 but playing newer games on PS3 and 4 i always felt that the scripting was more obvious like straight after I scored then I felt powerless to stop the CPU from scoring.

Actually, Spurs beat Man City and then lose to Burnley, that is serious scripting right there :D

Yes you're right, simply edit unplayable teams names and Hgt/Wgt (often wrong) like the "International Challenge" in PES 6 (there were 10 +- Estonia, Bosnia removed for World Cup, Qatar, some African team etc.) but the mode is different. It's not qualifications, it's missions, like scenarios in ISS.

About nations and how to find real names, Their squad numbers corresponds and names are were by far more lookalike back then.

It appeared if i'm not wrong the first time or on JLWE10 Europa 06-07 or JLWE2007, but against clubs, not nations.
Theres mix a fake/real clubs. I translated the exported excel files....
There's Sierra Leone or Zimbabwe fictive team lol, but also Korean or Saudi with fake names but rosters are real > took from the previous "Asia Championship" versions.

Thanks, i will try that tool then : i never see it anywhere.
It should be my last stuff, after PES 5 O.F. i'm doing, there not only many transfers but so much errors...
So i'll try to finish this then PES 2008 then i'll stop editing.

Too much time consuming and too much details reseach (that's how i edit) for too less people carrying.

That guide reminds me of something I saw years ago. It was an official manual of some kind that showed how much difference the form arrows make to a players stats. I remember how after seeing how much better players on red form were, I switched to pretty much always starting them against my friend. He never understood why I suddenly started selecting David Suazo for Inter.
