The Retro-PES Corner

I always thought one of the most 'Konami' things was in the PES5 guide when they were explaining the special abilities. One-touch Shot - oh says Seabass that's a mistranslation, it's actually one-touch pass! They then continued to call it one-touch shot afterwards.
I've forgotten, has anyone uploaded the PES5 guide in pdf???

Or other "Urban Legend", whan does R2/RT do (defaul controls)...In older games, in manuals it is described as special controls button, most people know it for sidesteps dribbling, or finesse shot at best.

For me it also helps a lot to recieve and controls incoming passes, balls since PES 5. Basically i can't imagine myself playing PES 5 and passing the ball around, without controlling it with R2+direction arrows of course. Meanwhile i know/knew people that never touch that button.

And the most crazy thing??? The first time that the R2/RT button is mentioned in "command list"menu, in the in-game help manual, as "help trap the ball", is either PES 2010, or 2012 or 2014.
Speaking of RT/R2, how you use it for slow dribble.

I still don't understand in which situation it's better to use it

Given how PES worked, in locked timed frames, i use it rarely to dribble, by myself, not the opponent, near the touchline. To retain better control of the ball.

The main use i make is, i use it as a brake, IE i pass from my AMF to my RWF, i start running forward with R1, the opponent defender covering me, starts running to contain my path, i press R2 to run slower, if he keeps running back, i cut inside. If he stops and runs to press on me, i double tap in the opposite direction, my initial one.

It is the only way to tune speed, apart from the binary walk/run, and since analogue moving/sprinting does only exist in eFootball 2022.

Also in certain trajectories it helps you shield the ball, as the face opponent goal animation contradicts with the opponent body charge animation. This is a coincidence to be fair, not a game mechanism. Not in every PES though.

I repeat,in some PES like 2019 it is like dribble with R2 and L-stick, and you probably give away the possession.

PES 2015 IMO got the worst ML mode in PES history.

I don't how Konami had permit themselves to release that mode in such poor state
I think that was common for most titles that year (except Fifa perhaps)
NHL 15 had a very slimmed down game (first game on new console) so did NBA 2k14 (great looks and great gameplay but slimmed down also first on that console gen)

Yes it had a very poor ML ,the first you could get fired in I think.

Loved that game a lot despite it ,content wise it was solid (outside ML)

@slamsoze think 15 had a very solid soundtrack ,great menu's as well (except for inside ML that looked like a league mode)
Yeah, great outter menu, loved the player in the background, and a very solid and commercial soundtrack, Avicii, Calvin Harris, some very big trending names for the Pop-rock music scene of that "era".

I usually tend to make jokes, that big part of the budget, may had gone to music rights for the music score that year :P

Probably true:)
Also a fully (I think ) licensed La Liga/EL/CL/Libertadores ,I'd play that game more if it wasn't so damn blurry now

Still playing once a month, when i boot up my laptop. I try to boost my hours in Steam, i have 250hrs in 2015 vs 970hrs+ in 2016.

I like this game's unique aspects, like the really semi assisted PA1, in every other PES it is much more assisted and has error for the shale of error.

Also what you say, LaLiga, Juventus, Bayern+ Allianz, CL, EL. UEFA Super Cup, Lulibertadirrs, Sudamericana, Recopa Sudamericana.

Only classic KONAMI move, Liga Chilena was out in 15, after introduced in 14. Hopefully from 16 onwards it came back.

And i love how hard i still this game. I suck hard in the ML i played, i must readapt to the approach needed yo play this.

2016 is more arcadey, but more simplistic, and accessible, i played some matched yesterday and it was like i never gave up, i was in a good form.

2015 needs some effort to re-adapt.

Still like it a lot ,think I've had my toughest ML on it.
Managed to stay up with just a few points two seasons in a row with Torino.
One of few games where I've struggled to play PA0 (no help at all).
Really a fun game ,and tough

When i say hidden, i mean from a main screen in game, like it was visible in 2014 and 2015. So if we speak about Corner Kick after PES 2016, is there any combined stat ? Or it is just input+swerve+long pass accuracy? Also does PLACE KICKING include CKs, cause the description says"Indicates a player's ability from SET PIECES, including Free Kicks and Penalties.

Just examples, but what applies here? I mean sometimes KONAMI are lost in translation, some times they are litterally 100% and sometimes they are figuratively with descriptions, simply forgetting things not implied. The problem is you never know when they mean the one thing and when the other.

Another similar case, the basic shooting description. By reading 100% literraly the description, you understand that you can only aim to 3 directions when shooting, right-center-left. Can this be true? If you ask 10 PES players, 5 of them will answer that aiming is analogue and every degree matters... Who knows!!

This (basic shooting aiming) applies for every PES after Playstation 2 era. I mean the urban legend, what people thing.
Yes, the FK / Corners / Penalties have the same comination... But they're a bit wrong, normally to me i would make something Finishing + Place Kicking + Shoot Power / 3 + the Penalty *star.
In fact, the guys doing the stats algorithm in game and the guys who's describe it seems to be "separated" from each others. They interpret. I don't know but i think so.

It reminds me about the Consistency attribute on PES4-5 which is a very intresting attribute, and how they hidden it.
The issue is they didn't removed it, they hidden it! So you can't edit it only with PESEditor. Fortunately that we got those tools. Because for example, you take Maradona to create a Youth, he will get 7 or 8 in Consistency.

Edit : about PES 2014 ML, fun fact : it's the most advanced from PS2 era, probably the better with tons of stuffs and good presentation.
Well there's shouldn't be that much difference with PES 2011-2013 (since Libertadores appeared on PS2) but still.
Totally different Master League. Not the same people behind it.

I know. But also not all OF editor, even only PES 6 editor had it (only for PES 2008-2009 PS2 games, on PC no editor , except fan editor, included consistency). Btw, I don't understand how pesmaster.com found the consistency attribute on PES 2011.

Maybe @Durandil67 had an idea if it still hidden on PES 2020

As have mentioned a french youtuber, the combined stats are still in the game. For e.g. on freekicks and penalties there's a overall rating that isn't in the game display

Yeah i believe it was totally removed on PS3 version too. As they introduced Playing style + others real skills card "captain" etc. which aren't in any PS2 + the Attack/Def contribution (which is a tiny bit related to teamwork, not exactly consistency but still)

Acceleration was probably calculated with height/weight and other combination with the PS2.5 algorithm even if it was added in PES 2011, and removed on 2012 PS3 version.

Same as shoot technique, they took a different way to interpret it with skills > a player can have a good shoot technique because he's good on volley, or good on acrobatic shoot etc. ...
But they didn't added something like "Back from the goal shot". That skill should have been added, even in PS4 versions, as it's the main concern of Shot Technique in fact on PS2.

I know, i'm "studying" stats since PS2 era lol. Practically all stats have a relationship which result in a "new" stat, with combination and special skills.
It's been like this since forever, but much much more since PS4 or PES 2014.

Since the height and weight are took in account in the equation. As an example : Height for the number of touches while dribbling (which was defined by Dribbling speed before PS4 versions) Only that stat mattered before, the longer the player legs are, the longer he will push the ball, of course related with Dribbling and now Tight Possession (Dribbling > gets more importance the fastest you run with the player, T.P. > take more importance the slower you dribble with)

I don't think

The cards on PS3 games replaced the special abilities on PS2 games and then PS4 tried to replace attributes like Mentality.

Consistency is like Condition, they define how good the player perform during a game. The definition of Consistency included in the official guide of PES5 doesn't have any relation with the Player cards or even similar with one of them

Did you see him hidden in PesEditor? I didn't personnally, and it showed tons of stuffs "hidden" from the database. Like the number to define the type of player's evolution (probably related to his age). To me, as long as i don't see it on any Editor, O.F. or Database Editor (showing even more hidden stuffs) : they just removed it, it doesn't exist anymore on PS3.

Well i'll be honest, i don't really care about PS3 versions. To me, they're the decline of PES, i was playing Fifa at the time.
I only focus on PS2 and PS4 versions, the golden era and the comeback.
I still got and play sometimes PES 2011 on PC. Or PES 2010 and 2008, post PS2.5 just because with a big recoil i see them as a PS2 HD version. Especially PES 2008. 2010 was a bit too easy to shoot on target and less resembling to PS2 versions.

Well both are the same.

But I take into consideration that PES 2014 was the first on the new generation etc. The game in general was average.
Pes 15 was the first on Xbox one /PS4 that's why it was so slimmed down.
I think they could have released it on new gen back then ,but didn't
