The Retro-PES Corner

Finally made a new tournament with one of my favourite patches, The Original Season patch from @Fabri55.

I also wanted to thank @Benicio for his sharing with me his fantastic HD scoreboard for The UCL.

It's the highest prize in European Club Football, The UEFA Champions League. 32 of Europe best clubs competing for a spot in the Final, at The Spyros Louis in Athens.

Hello my friend, yesterday I followed the live broadcast and I can only repeat what I wrote to you in private: there is no better spot for a patch than your own dedicated series.
Great atmosphere, great games and Benicio's new graphics make everything even more beautiful to look at.
Now we look forward to the next episode !!!

p.s. I could also notice a Titov with blond hair and Messi with brown hair.
It needs to be remedied :LMAO:

@vialli82 I have 2 questions my friend..

1. Do you know of any way I can install Korean commentary in Winning Eleven 9 Asia Championship (PCSX)?? Japanese commentary is quite cool, but I'd to see if I can play with Korean language. :TU:

2. Is there any translated version of K-League Winning Eleven 8 -Asia Championship (Korea) available?

Thanks bro!

No-one asked me, but...

1. There is in fact a Korean version of the game, for which even the ISO is like gold dust!

2. Not that I know of, certainly. Although I'm sure it'd be a case of copying and pasting relevant files from a Japanese translation. From my playing of both it's exactly the same as the Japanese version aside from the language, obviously, and Japanese and Korean sides switched in the team selection screen.

Great video as usual, I must admit that Spartak Moscow goal was great. Crazy to see Werder Bremen and Hamburg were in Champions League, considering where they are now, and no Dortmund and Leipzig at all, times have changed so much... The patch looks fantastic, I have to play it again, too.

Thanks man, really do appreciate it. Also, I'm not sure I understand why Messi with brown hair is a bad thing... are we talking about the same Messi? 😅

Yes, it's surreal isn't it, same with Bordeux and Lille. No PSG, Marseille or even recent runners up Monaco. No Juventus either. Now we have teams like Atalanta, Ajax and like you said Leipzig who have risen up as regulars now.

Not really, even players' abilities aren't the same. Here's the exemple of Ramos (also Robinho and Messi), who's in Sevilla in PES5, and in RM in WE9 J-League. You can see here that his abilities are between PES5 and WE10

We9 JL Asia Championship (same transfers as PES

I know they don't have the same the same stats, never say the opposite. I didn't mentioned it (like Messi is very slightly different too if you check i think)

JLWE9AC have perhaps some transfers, but as there's only 2 Spanish teams (Barca and Madrid) 4-5 English and Serie A, One panel only for the big leagues and perhaps a second for others Euro...
It's not a reliable basis if you want to correct a full option file. That's the thing : there's still no complete WE9-PES 5 with summer transfers foundable like Liveware or Final Evolution, with the same database from that season.

Ah yes, about Body Balance i already said it, but there's a calculation between WE9/PES5 and WE10/PES6. The scale is larger and the overall Body Balance are lower, but the arrow form between the two are different from a game to another... Only on Body Balance if i remember, and perhaps injuries.
You can check a whole team not too much touched from WE10, you see all the Body Balance decreased.

Stats standards from that era and arrows are linked in a certain way i think.
Ah yes, there's also a JLWE10, a basic one, with only J-league and Nations. Same as JL2007 Club Championship but with national and same rosters as PES 6. Perhaps some change of stats like you noticed there, but sadly rosters remains the same, no summer, no winter transfers (winter > on JL2007CC)

Also the PES 5 and WE10 got different nations package i already knows it but didn't checked the replacements :

Angola / Togo replace Ghana but one slot isn't added > China is removed, and Trinidad replace Venezuela

But here Ramos' body balance increased.

I noticed also that on WE9 LE they corrected (some) players jersey numbers, like Robinho who was n°50 in PES5 and Figo.

I don't understand how Konami didn't correct the transfert on PES4-6 (PC) with a dlc that people could download from web, it's like they put all their effort for the Korean/Japanese communities.

When I see Ramos with this stats and in Sevilla in PES5, and David Silva in PES6. Barca on PES4 hadn't Guily and Eto'o but Luis Garcia and Saviola, I mean they released a game with database out of date

Like they said before pc gaming wasnt a thing and console was important than pc for asians always, to konami never cared about occidental public back then

Yes, we are talking about that Messi! :))
Some players have default hair that differs a little from kitserver's, and it clashes in-game.
These are little things that I am gradually correcting.

Hi bros! I'd like to ask if any of you could share your PCSX2 settings for smooth performance and best quality graphics? I'd like to tinker a bit to see if I can eliminate micro-stuttering in WE 9 Asia Championship, also see if I can improve graphic quality a bit.. Thanks!

Well that's a tricky request, it depends on your hardware, system, version of PCSX2, plugins, etc.
In the last few years I have been playing PES 2008 and JLWE 2008 using this version: "pcsx2-v1.5.0-dev-2356-gdc5327816" with this set of plugins:

And this configuration:

I have a ryzen 5 1600 and RX570 and it runs very smooth with those two games that I wrote above.
Hope it helps!

Thanks a lot for these settings bro! I was changing some stuff and got it to work ok, but if I ever try with a different PES version or if I have problems with microstuttering again, I will save these settings for sure! :TU:The good part is, it is also in Spanish hehe..

Can anyone guide me towards downloading an option file for PES 2008 on the PS2?

I recently purchased max drive so I will be able to download an option file and switch it over.

I want one that was made back in the day for the 07/08 season that has real emblems and kits, updated transfers and squads, real player names, everything unlocked etc...

I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. Is an option file like that on this website to download or another website or something? Any help would be appreciated, I would also hope to find a similar type of option file for PES 3.

Also, this shot from the game above is one of the things I love about retro PES.

It's all about body position, timing, and of course stats which make this effort soooo wild.

Correct me if I am wrong but do these types of shots happen in newer PES'? I don't remember seeing anything like this from PES2017 or newer.

Terrible shot but great game and really nice red card. :P
Like you said, it depends on several things to make it a goal. What I do in those situations if my brain send the correct signal to my fingers is gently tap the shot button, the minimum power possible and pray a little (also some position adjusting with R2 if I can).

Can't say about newer PES, maybe in full manual control you can expect something like that.

@geeeeee That shot cracked me up. I wasn't expecting it! You're right about trajectory though, yet another aspect that makes classic PES great!

Speaking of which, bros, what PES 5 or PES 6 patch would you most recommend to play World Cup Germany 2006? I've seen a few but I'm looking for the best possible one to start a Cup Story. :TU:

Luciano, (#12,570) it's neat that you advise to tap gently. I seem to recall flirting with a feeling likewise of wanting to get my shot off, also minding my brain signals and the speed of play. From my perceived speed of the play unravelling, and the finesse dribbling, that is, going by efootball 2022 (free demo), taking shape I felt an actual rush to get my shot of in urgency which thankfully I believe I got in one with to find the target satisfyingly on more than one occasion, lag notwithstanding.

The gameplay grips me nicely in eFootball as it has had often in the past. Nevertheless, I don't entirely discount Fifa which have dealt me favorably as well in that department, although I find hard to believe that a love of the beautiful game alone could have managed those rewarding moments across the board over the years. I am generally a casual gamer but I am appreciating more and more where the competition between Konami and EA has taken the game.

What levels could I manage myself as a sweaty player? I am open to the experiment more and more, especially as top flight football clubs have to differentiate committed/gritty players from pure specialist at the same time refereeing is kind of evolving (from VAR being optional in close/contentious/critical calls to a staple in goal decision) to remove themselves rightly from the action on the field to let the players best express themselves. What does the mean for us in our joypads and controllers?

After a survey revealed the average age of gamers being 30 some year olds, I am convinced that getting completely familiar with my gamepad will reap its rewards. Not to romanticize too much, but the controls (having changed) seem so appealing anew. The dummy kicks on the face buttons are most interesting, though on whole might like the incision needed to impose your style on the opponent. I can't wait to try out sharp kicks as well, and get to practicing the near endless combinations of moves that we are promised in the spring. I could go on but I prefer to leave you to your personal devices. Happy New Year to You All !

I'm retrying WE8LE, and it's a pretty good game, no comparison with WE8/PES4. A bit unique.
Btw, i retried WE9, and thanks to @marqisspes6 who suggested me to change the name : i changed the name with a more advanced method and it worked : i assigned PES 5 game code (SLES+4 number) on the option file.

Got something to ask : i searched EVERYWHERE the most recent version of EditPes4OptionFile , which allow to edit WE8LE, my own hidden gem.
Will tell why below.
I tried the method below with the version i got (EditPes4OptionFile 1.1) and WeOptEditor PES4/WE8 : no way to open that file.

But i found a thread that EditPes4OptionFile, at least a more advanced version : i fact the reason is i got a super patch with original rosters, all kits and Emblems, add-boards etc. and an English O.F. for the names in English....
But the issue is that ALL the licenced teams/league are in Japanese, Serie A, Liga, ALL Nations 😢 i really want to restore it.

In counterpart, i got a basic version only translated, no kits... But real teams names, no kits, extras.

So if someone got one version of EditPes4OptionFile 1.35 on their addic lol, it's the only way to change the licenced teams names (you can in the other editor so it's not locked, i'm on it since 3 days, no success, kinda desperate after all those try) i'll be really happy, and it will took me +- 40 minutes for renaming.

I gave a try with two O.F. editor for WE8 / PES 4 : not a single one is working. Only possible on EditPes4OptionFile 1.35. It's pretty annoying having everything perfect, except the Jap names for so much teams.

So if you got that version or another perhaps between 1.1 and 1.35, i'll be really grateful 😌

Then i'll share the patch with the O.F. of course :) Thanks in advance guys.
I ain't familiar at all since 15 years with DKZ Studio so...

Imagine you can play WE9 (Japan) and WE10 (Japan) on PC without an emulator

View attachment 137994
One day, we will be able to convert those PS2 games to PC. I believe on it : you already got the basis by yearly version (PES 6 for WE10, PES5 for WE9).
I'm pretty sure it's already doable even without tricks, but a bit complicated. I would love a PES 6 360 (better than PS2/PC).

Weird that we're still locked with emulation, and no PS2/GC/XBOX > PC... REAL game conversions after all those years.
