The Retro-PES Corner

@Titch Sure...

Here's the pes6zoom http://www.mediafire.com/file/v9bqmwdze4nw51w/pes6zoom.exe

Place that in your pes6 folder where the pes6.exe is

Then right click it and run it as administrator

It will open a small window that says Open pes6.exe and other stuff below. First click on the open pes6.exe button that'll take you to your konami folder and you can choose the pes6.exe

Then in the desired camera zoom box you can change (typing it is quicker) a new Zoom number. That one is 970 but you can choose whatever you like, basically the lower you go the more zoomed out it'll be, right up until the stadium is a tiny dot on the screen  It's also worth clicking Fix stadium box. Then click apply Zoom to pes6.exe and you'll get a little message saying it's done. Close it and you're good to go. If I remember correctly you have to select Wide camera in game to see this view.

Remember to run it as administrator though otherwise it won't work

@Madmac79: Welcome mate, hoping to hear more from you in our little corner here.

Good idea, playing Castolo as a winger. He's more often than not completely useless up front in my striker duo, because he has no strength to hold off defenders and can't link up with the other striker and Minanda up front. As a winger he escapes from the tough, strong centre-backs and also escapes the relentless pressure every team applies in the centre of the pitch.
I think I'll fire up a training session tonight just to try out Minanda as "Pirlo" in front of the defense, I'm really curious to see how it'll play out.
Regarding your dilemma, that's mainly why I chose to play this challenge I'm doing currently. It's quite fun to buy players, honestly that was always one of the things that excited me more when I played a football game, but to me it's even more fun to lead this Default team to ML glory.

@mattmid: I think so too, after playing all of the teams of the league this season it's clear that these top-3 (+ ML United) are really on a whole different level. The second half of Season 2 was exciting, but Season 3's will be right up there too.
I just searched Zamenhof on google and apparently there was a Zamenhof who created the world's most popular artificial language, Esperanto. The things you learn with PES!

@Titch: I got a 7th place (out of 8 teams) in my first season, didn't get past the first round of the D2 cup and still got enough points to pay the salaries. If you're able to establish your team as a mid-level D2 side you'll be financially secure, at least in PES2008 you would.
The good thing about keeping the defaults is that you'll have a few aging players like Iouga, Zamenhof, and others asking for cheaper contracts when it's time to renew them. This allows me to give better contracts to my best players with the PES points I save in those cheap contracts. Moreover, aging players ask for shorter contracts, which means that I'll be renewing those contracts soon, therefore giving them even less money.
*Insert evil laughter*
Your Dubai days are counted, Zamenhof.

My season 2 is shaping up to be a tight finish at the top with five sides in with a chance still. Without giving any spoilers away before the end of season update my thoughts that Reid and Partizani would not be as strong as the two that got promoted (Heerenveen and Lokeren) has proven to be true and whilst they are right in the mix they are not head and shoulders above the rest like those two were. It might be this season will be weaker than next too depending on who comes down.

Will be interested to hear how your Minanda training session goes.

Zamenhof's back and he just came into the manager's office but I couldn't understand a word he was saying :D Muttered something about a new contract as he walked out...

@WhoAteMeDinner: The more you speak of that promotion system in PES3 the more I'm interested, sounds amazing to me. Tell us then how it went for you.

@Red_Star_Belgrade: Welcome to our little corner mate! Loved your screenshots, I didn't know it was possible for me to get even more nostalgic but those pictures did the trick.
When you do kick off your ML be sure to stop by and tell us about it.
I liked the word you used to describe our thread: "addictive". Once you catch retro-PES fever, you're done!

@mattmid: Very much enjoyed reading your update. First of all, you're doing quite well considering the squad you have, I wasn't expecting you to get a balanced record of Wins/Draws/Losses such as the one you've got at this point. Also a 6.9 average for Dodo is just pornographic, what a monster! That 9.0 match rating was nuts...(ha, pornographic!)
Then, you had a really got idea there: Minanda playing further away from the strikers. I wonder if he could play "regista" like Pirlo, sitting in front of his defense and using his playmaker skills to build-up play there. It absolutely makes sense given he loses his quickness, speed and agility over the years so you'll want him farther away from the opposition's defense, which gives him more space to work the ball.
Is Al-Zamenhof already preparing his new career after the end of his footballing days?

@Titch: Good luck for your save, is it on PES6?

Before I go, (read this with a british accent please!) I have a problem of discipline in my squad. My players are terrible at following Ordaz...

@miguelfcp , PES 3 Division 2 Season 7 Lombardia (Inter) End of Season Table, Cup and Promotion update: (PS2 with no internet so no screen shots or videos, sorry).

:BAND::BSCARF::EASY::BOUNCE:

Table: W 7 D 4 L 3 GF 22 GA 17 GD 5 PTS 25 Position 2nd

Promotion / Relegation Group Results:

Lombardia 1 - 0 Old Firm Green (Div 1)

Lombardia 2 - 0 Nord (Div 2)

Lombardia 1 - 4 Lisbonera (Div 1)

Promoted to Division 1

Division 2 Cup Final

Lombardia 1 - 0 PES United

Great season, a second Division 2 Cup and promotion finally after seven seasons, but unlike you @miguelfcp , I have signed seven senior players and only play five defaults in my team most of time, whereas you are doing as good in PES 2008, winning cups and getting close to promotion with just the defaults and a few new generation growth signings.

@Titch I record them with the nvidia GeForce and then make them into a movie with movie maker then upload them to youtube account. The geforce thing you can start (if you have nvidia graphics card) and overlays the game and you can record and save from it. You just start it by pressing ALT Z when in game.

@WhoAteMeDinner Great season! Congratulations! So close to a double as well.

Thanks will look into it.
I've had a few thoughts.
If you save a replay in PES and review them, will it revert to whichever camera view you were using at the time or the last used view?
What determines the initial contract length of a player in ML?
What determines the age a player will retire?

You can switch to various different cameras in the saved replays with the pass button and also use the other buttons to move he camera around on its axis in some of them.

I have wondered if the initial contracts are random or not, I had I think 7 players out of contract after the first season. I think the retiring age is random to an extent, no idea whether game time impacts it or not. Judging by Zamenhof's refusal to retire I think not!

Thanks @mattmid , my main man playmaker was the difference this season, Arellano, he ran the midfield as well as a Minanda or a Nedved even. And I had a back up striker in the squad for the season long injured Dario Silva, a German striker called Kfore, sort of Bierhoff or Jancker type forward, good in the air, (as I insist on ) and a heavy shot from just outside the box.

Now I have got back to my old standards in PES 3, time to for more nostalgia, have rooted out of the drawers ISS Pro Evo 1 from the Playstation, the Daddy of the Master League format.

Riggio, Coliuto, Koppers, here we go.....:BSCARF:

Domzale Season 2 Second Half

A decent start to the second half with a couple of wins and a couple of draws which included a win over Lech Poznan and a draws with Ried and Partizani saw us go into the match with GA Eagles in fourth place.

An early sending off for GA Eagles with the score 1-1 saw us begin to take advantage and go into a 3-1 lead on the hour. Then we switched off and before we knew it GA Eagles had got themselves back into the game and got back to 3-3! Then in the final minutes Ordaz got on a through ball and buried the ball in the net for a late winner, a fantastic moment although in a game that should have been long since won.

The result of this with other scores going our way suddenly meant that with 2 games to go the standings were

Ried 22 +8
Domzale 21 +4
Lech Poznan 20 +6
Partizani 20 +1
Heracles 19 0

Promotion was now in our hands thanks to Ried's win away to Partizani. Our final two games were games we had won in the first half of the season Heracles (4-2) and Vardar (2-0). However Heracles was away and they too had everything to play for including going above us if they win.

A terrible start against Heracles as they scored an early goal was compounded when Espimas got himself sent off. Huylens grabbed an equaliser just after half time but the relentless pressure from Heracles paid off when they took the lead on 77 minutes and then scored a breakaway goal on 90 as Domzale poured forward in search of an equaliser.

Table with 1 game to go

Ried 25
Partizani 23
Heracles 22
Domzale 21
Lech Poznan 20

With promotion no longer in our own hands the final set of fixtures saw Ried playing Heracles. A win for Heracles would see any hopes we have dashed, any other result and it all came down to how Partizani fared. They had +3 goal difference while I was on +2. If they could only get a draw I could still grab second place with a 2 goal win and with a 1 goal win find out how PES separates level GD. If it's on goals scored then I was in the driving seat with 7 more. First things first though I had to take care of my game and then hope results went my way. I was home to bottom placed Vardar. Partizani were away to sixth place GA Eagles, while Poznan, who still had a chance with +4 GD if all results went their way, played 7th placed Korona.

So we went into the final day with all the top 5 able to go up. Ried in the driving seat but as they were playing Heracles an albeit unlikely 4 goal win for Heracles and a win for Partizani could still see them miss out.

With calculators at the ready the final fixtures begin

The first half began with early pressure down the right with Burchet but he couldn't pick out a man with two or three crosses. Vardar flashed a shot wide before a cross from the left by Fouque found Burchet running on to it at the corner of the six yard box. He meets it on the volley and it's spectacularly caught... by a man sitting in row Z! A golden chance to take the lead. Then on 37 mintues, disaster! Vardar work the ball into the box and it's rifled home. Now we have two goals at least to find. Twice in the final minutes of the half, first Minanda, then Huylens are thwarted, as they are about to shoot, by last ditch tackles then in stoppage time Vardar break, the shot comes in , Ivarov makes a good save but can only parry it towards another Vardar player who has the simple task of tapping it in. But from nowhere Libermann appears and slides almost on the goal line to keep the shot out! Half time 0-1

Elsewhere Ried are beating Heracles 1-0 whilst Poznan and Paritzani are drawing.

Table as things stand

Ried 28
Partizani 24
Heracles 22
Domzale 21
Poznan 21

If things stay as they are a win could still sneak promotion.

Second Half

The first ten minutes is spent trying to get the ball off Vardar as they carry on where they left off. Finally a good chance is worked but Huylens lifts it well over the bar. Chances at a premium as the clock ticks around to 75 minutes with tackles flying in everywhere as Vardar frustrate with keep ball. We then go for broke playing a 2-1-2-5 as we try desperately to find two goals. On 86 minutes Burchet, running on empty finds the energy to get a cross in. Ordaz is on the penalty spot unmarked. He heads it at goal but it's just over! The manager tears his hair out. Minanda wins the ball on the edge of the box but the ref blows for a non existent foul. Then the ball breaks to Minanda again and as he's about to shoot he gets hacked down. Tempers flare, pushing and shoving, handbags are out and Minanda gets angry as his hair is messed up. As the ref calms things down and the physio hands Minanda a comb for his injured hair, it's a free kick on the D in stoppage time. All too late but one last chance to at least get a draw out of the game. The free kick hits the wall and despite 6 Domzale men around the ball it goes to the only Vardar player and he breaks. He runs all the way before firing the ball into the crowd and that is that. The Domzale players sink to their knees in disappointment.

The Domzale players return to the dressing room to the sickening news that results have stayed as they were at half time and realise that a win in either of the last two games would have seen them promoted :(

Final Table

Ried 28
Partizani 24
Heracles 22
Lech Poznan 21
Domzale 21 ( 6-3-5 20-19 ) Second top scorers, second worst defence.
GA Eagles 15
Vardar 14
Korona 12

So, in the end the two that came down go back up. I have to be pleased with my points tally and position although we had a very disappointing end to the season. It's almost as if the pressure got to them, there was no cohesion in the last two games, shots were way off target and defending was poor, even Dodo wasn't winning many tackles. When the dust settles though it'll be a good season and we can hopefully push on next season to challenge again.

Ried did the double, winning the Div 2 Cup by beating holders GA Eagles 6-5 on penalties.

Altach and St Polten are relegated from Div 1

Div 2 Golden Boot Honsake (Ried) 9

Player Updates..

Held their stats: Ivarov, Ximilez, Minanda dropped away on some but held passing and technique,

Dropping: Valeny (-1), Ceciu (-1), Stermer (-1), Iouga (-2), Castolo (-1), Espimas (-1) Huylens, held Shot accuracy but dropped most others by 1. Zamenhof (-1) and has put on 50lbs as it turned out he really like the food in Dubai.

Improvers: Ruskin (+6), Jaric (+4), Libermann (+4), Dodo (+4), Fouque (+4), Ordaz (+4), Lothar (+4), Macco (+4), Hamsun (+3), Stein (+2)

The problem with Fouque is apart from his passing he's ok at everything but has nothing stand out elsewhere, virtually everything is in the 60's or low 70's.

Surprises: Burchet has improved by +1 on almost everything at 30!

The biggest worry going into next season is that Zamenhof only has a year left on his contract. The management will be working closely with him through the season (if he's not on holiday) to sort out a new deal. We fear he is running down his contract looking for a last big pay day elsewhere. Zamenhof, for his part, suggests he could do a job at RB if required. The management tell him they'll let him know...

@mattmid Regarding replays one of the positions it switches to is the in game camera where you can't zoom or rotate if that makes sense.

Trying to get a retro style camera angle using birds-eye view. Looks pretty good :)

2000. So it's still zoomed out slightly but right above the heads. I've even made the players fat to look like SWOS
Also, what is the default zoom?

According to Gamefaqs:
Ivanov
Stromer
Daric
Valery
Iorga
Cellini
Ximenes
Espinas
Miranda
Castello
Baroja
Cecil
Vorlander
Eddington
Nachtegall
Harty
Matt
Ostwald
Burchet
Njord
Oranges102-Huygens
Kelsen
Zamenhof

I wonder why they changed the fakes names like Ximenes to Ximelez and Espinas to Espimas, Miranda Minanda etc? In fact looking at that list almost all of them

Oranges102?

Yeah I loved that and Goal on the Amiga. For some reason I never liked Kick Off even though like Goal it was also by Dino Dini, just never got on with it where as I played Goal a nd SWOS to death. SWOS was always unbelievably hard to master but so addictive. According to one of the reviews there's still online leagues now.

Oh and congrats on Tranmere making it back to the league. :)

@mattmid: Amazing stuff, really enjoyed reading your update. Lost my s*** when Minanda's hair got injured!
Though you weren't able to get promoted I'd still consider it a great season for your defaults, you should be proud of the guys. If you're able to improve your defensive record you'll be fighthing for promotion once again.
Are you planning to buy players in the next transfer window?

I think the default names were changed because of licensing reasons...Konami's offer for the naming rights didn't please Miranda at all.

@reinelt97: My configuration is PAL 50hz, but though I play on a modern TV I have the original PS2 display, so not optimized for the TV I'm using.
