The Euro 2020 Thread

Spain played way better than us, there is no denying it. Perfectly prepared game from the start in pressing us high and, at the same time, eluding our own pressing with classy possession and exchanges. Our three midfielders probably played their worst game since the start of the tournament- and I'm always of the opinion Locatelli should be the starter. Spinazzola is also an incredible loss, as Emerson did decently but clearly all the costant push by our unlucky guy was another thing.

Mancini also failed every possible substitution, in substance or in timing.

That said, all the possession of the world won't win you matches if you can't consistently arrive in front of the goal. We were good in defending and countering (at least until we scored and Mancini started those crazy subs).. although that scolastic 1-2 Morata goal was quite bad. Then it's even useless to spend words on the penalties.

Quite worried for the final. England is dynamic and physical, with a lot of solidity and talent in every position. Denmark is hard to frame but they certainly have quality, and the dark horse status. Curious to see who'll pass tomorrow even tho England is obviously the absolute number one favourite.

Well done mate. That what you say pretty much sums up my thoughts about the game, also like you say i think Spinazolla could have made the difference.

Unlucky Spain. What a game it was though, both teams just got on with it, and not a hint of what we were talking about recently.

The time passed too quickly, i could have watched this for hours. A great thing to see.

I like your captain too, people like him are an asset to any team.

This is glourious. It's either mind games, or simply a guy having a whale of a time. Or both. In any case I love it.
IMHO it is just a "classic" player, knowing that probably this is his last National career great tournament, and he is trolling (in good manner) the moments, by a mix of feelings, pressure, stress, relief, enjoy the moment . Altogether..

Spain deserved to win that match. On the other hand if you look at the whole of the tournament, then the final should be Italy-Denmark.
The two countries who played the best football.

I really hope Denmark win this tournament, there is the Eriksen situation and the way the team reacted. But i have also a personal reason for liking Denmark. I support two clubs: Spurs because i love the English competition and here in Belgium KRC Genk. Denmark have a player from each club i support, Hojbjerg from Spurs and Maehle who played for KRC Genk until january this year. I loved him when he played for Genk and perhaps i'm biased, but for me he is one of the very best players of this Euro tournament. First of all he is playing out of position because he is a right back who has to play left back and had never done it before this tournament. He scored two goals and gave one lovely assist (against the Czech Republic). He is a tireless runner and has a fantastic physical condition combined with very good technical skills. To be fair, he has defensive issues sometimes. I would like to see him play for Spurs, we need a good right back, but i think he already is beyond financial reach of Spurs.

Loved it. Can't help but feel like it's mind games, but also, if you're the other guy in that situation, you can break down the "power" of the scenario by just laughing with (or at) him. Not by being super-serious and putting more pressure on yourself. I didn't think it was handled very well at all.

Italy deserved to win and did so fairly. The stats (goals, penalties scored, and fouls conceded) is all the evidence required. 🇮🇹 I recall one act of deceit and that was Busquets buying a free kick early in the game. Match was played in a good spirit, I thought. Trying to counteract with some love for Italy! #StaTornandoACasa

Italy v Spain... I have never, as an England fan, truly looked at a team and thought "we could beat them". Even the game against Ukraine, I thought they'd have the pace and the skill at countering to score a goal or two (which they nearly did) and that we might struggle. Tonight's game against Denmark, I'm thinking they will defend (and with Schmeichel in goal, they will do well) and if they score first, we're out.

Yet I found myself watching the game last night and thinking - well... At half time, Italy had 1 shot and 39% possession. They can be restrained.

If, IF (!), England got through to face Italy... I think we would actually stand a chance - and I feel sick admitting it, because I know how much I want to laugh in the face of every England fan who's said over the last few years "oh we'll beat so-and-so easily mate". Like Iceland for example...

It's a troll. I'm sure mods will shut this down when they see.

The fact that the person has only ever commented on threads they started with their own YouTube video outlines their MO.

It's a mind fuck. Especially now in a time where FOOTBALL is the most important, serious thing on the planet. But note how much he uses his physical presence. The push, the nudge with the fist, massive handshake, big hug that picks him up. Superb power play.

I agree, him and Spinnazola have been the two standout players for me, particularly as I knew little about either of them. Also been impressed with Pedri for 18 years old.

If we play a back four tonight I think he's going to give Walker a very difficult time. Southgate has changed the team to counter threats so far so I'm interested to see what he'll do to try and negate Maehle's threat. Whether that will be Trippier or whether he'll switch to wing backs again I don't know.

Ignore it, it's just nonsense :))

I had the exact same thoughts  I was watching and thinking our pace will surely trouble the two warriors at centre back, but at the same time thinking they are experienced, wily defenders and won't leave themselves exposed to that.

As for tonight I'm not totally convinced Denmark will sit back, they've taken everyone on so far and have nothing to lose. It's probably the best way against us though, giving us no room to use pace over the top. They also beat us last time of course so they'll know they can do it, although I can't honestly remember much about how the game panned out.

Alba felt like Rain man when Chellini kicked off there.
The only thing I feel sorry for regarding yesterday's loss for Spain is poor Morata.
Probably get all the blame for Spain's loss.

Yeah, would be really harsh though. Firstly someone else missed too and secondly if it wasn't for his goal they wouldn't even have been taking penalties. Not that any of that will factor into twitter trolls minds of course.

He's been in the line of fire all championship long.

i'm thrilled for tonights match! last night delivered... lets do it one more time, at least!

in general: what does a second coin toss do for the better?!
one toss of a coin and the winning team gets to choose side and the other ones kicks off (penalties). why is the second toss needed? one is for the sides and one is for kick off, i get that. but whats better here (2 tosses) compared to the one time toss???

Well here we are again, ready for another Glorious night\failure. I am confident that IF we play to our abilities, we will be OK. The Danes Should have a good go though, make no mistake. This could give us a fa cup tie type game. My nerves are starting to tingle with still hours before kick off on the clock.

Just like the effects of Viagra....We have to stiffen up, stand proud, and beat this semi. :D

I would be very surprised if Denmark would sit back under this coach, Chris. They will attack.

Did someone say something about Paella?

Mmmhh, delicious.

All my hope for Denmark today. But it will be the difficultiest match at Euro for them at the homeground from the english 11 squad.

Do someone know why Moise Kean don't play for Italy? He had a well season in Paris.

Oh FFS England. I really want to look forward to the game tonight but so many disappointments over the years just leave that feeling that it's going to happen yet again!

It's the hope that kills you
