That's what's happening with F1 aswell. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Azerbajan... Not certainly countries with a tradition in racing.
Then they do away with Imola, with Germany...
There needed to be the Covid outbreak to see Imola back in the calendar after Heaven knows how many years... Portimao (which I consider a great track) being added...
 
Those countries have money now and so they can organize big sporting events.

Just read this in online news from one of the 'fans' that got into wembley in the break in.

An England fan has described how he joined the so-called "Wembley jib" - a term to describe breaking through security to see the Euro 2020 final.

He revealed that a chat group was set up for people to share tips on how to get into the match. Hours before the game kicked off, those who managed to get in advised those still outside on where breaches had been made.

The fan, who travelled down from the Midlands for the match, explained how he and about 300 others entered the stadium via an entrance for disabled visitors in block K, with stewards accepting bribes to let people in. He reckons more than 5,000 entered the ground despite not having a ticket.

He said: "I just thought my Dad is 52 and he’s never seen England in a final at Wembley. And it might never happen again in my lifetime. There were 30,000 spare seats, and we didn’t sit in anyone’s seat."


A perfect example of the 'all about me' section of society. All bar those still alive of the crowd in 1966 haven't seen England in a final either should they have all just turned up and gone in because they felt entitled to? We didn't sit in anyone's seat. What a twat. Why don't you just go and take a top of the range car because you want one as well but probably won't ever have one?

Just hope some of these people are held accountable with fines and banning orders etc. Not holding my breath.




Meanwhile yesterday news broke of allegedly (looks pretty certain it was them) two or three members of the Portsmouth Academy U18 team posting racist shit about the penalty takers in their own group chat. As if that wasn't bad enough some of the u18 players are black and are naturally also in that chat group. I can only imagine how they felt to see teammates posting that. Investigation is underway and I would hope those responsible are kicked out of the academy.

I think the right way is to attack sponsor's ,not the Chinese ones sponsoring the event ,but look into each countries main sponsors and put pressure there ,always go for the money

Incidentally German Football Assiciation is in talks with Qatar Airways as a new main sponsor since Lufthansa jumped off. Absurd.

Here in Germany there is an increasing gap between the national team and the fans because management is more concerned with sponsors, outward appearance and branding than with evolution of the team. 6 years wasted with a stubborn head coach beyond his prime and a slimeball manager who never takes any responsibility while England, Spain and Italy left us in the dust.

Never seen such levels of indifference after being eliminated this early and then by England of all teams. Would have been a national desaster 10 years ago, now everyone is just shrugging it off. But it's a good thing. Fans are turning away and sooner or later they have to react.

Sounds absurd that the federation (national team) is so far from its customers/fans ,but it's the same thing here (sweden) it's like it's own little sphere.
Think it's absurd that our countries goes to Qatar/Kazakhstan etc.

One thing though ,the International icehockey federation stripped Belarus hosting the 2021 (or if it was the one in 2020) world championship.
But I think FIFA is more corrupt so that won't happen.

I remember 6 year old me feeling proud of myself after completing the 2010 WC virtual album. Good times.
It also happened to 10 year old me, after achieving a back-to-back completed WC virtual album, in 2014.
That's really nice nostalgia, thank you for reminding me of it.
 
@Flipper the Priest The First "Loot box" type product i can think off. It doesn't help being past a certain age either, because when we were at school you could swap some with other collectors. In fact i am that old, i remember football cards and chewing gum.

Ιn my hood and my school we had two gambling variations of Panini football stickers and they were played with decks of stickers , by collections of duplicates,triples,etc...Both games were played with sticker numbers in the back.

Of course we used to trade too.

The first game, i can't recall the name, 2 or more players were throwing stickers with their backs, from zero, if your last digit did match the previous one you were winning the turn and were collecting the pile that was formed.
Example if the player A threw a No18 and you threw a No23, player 1 throws again. Until for example , player A threw a No 48 and you then trow a No 108. Then you win and you collect the threw stickers in the pile.

Second game was more casino-like. It was named blocks. One friend with a big deck was doing the dealer and after shufling his deck, you should cut it in 2 or 4 or more blocks, depending on betting players and the size of the deck. You put the blocks with player images facing upside. Players 2 or more...Each players places his bet, the bet was a number of cards pretedetermined before the turn starts. IE i place 3 stickers on on block A and my friend must place 3 cards on block A or B , or C, D, E, etc, depending on their number. We turn the blocks of stickers backwards and whoever finds the biggest number wins, IE if i had No 205 and my friend No 75, i win...

Not so childish game now that i remember!!!! :P :P :P Bring me a kid that spends 1,000 bucks of his mom's credit card on FuT/MyClub, to tell him thug-life gambling stories!!! :D

I remember in school time breaks, whoever was caught to play gambling with Panini, the penalty was too strickt. You should go to principal's office and your stickers deck was seized by the principal in a specific drawer of his desk. Your parents could claim your stickers after the school year's end.

I always ended up with a handful I couldn't get and nobody had swaps of them so I never ever finished a Panini book as a kid. I finished a Panini sandwich once though.


@slamsoze I think the principal had his own Panini book and did this to find the one's he was missing :D That's quite some complex games! Did the friend end up opening a casino later in life :D

I remember Top Trumps being a big thing at my school and I also remember mars bars being so big that it was a job to finish them as a kid.

I am at peace with the world.

I've done them the past few tournaments. I like how they're quite straightforward and relatively innocent - you aren't really encouraged to buy anything or pay to 'win'. You can get extra packs by buying Coke but that's it. Not like the real deal though where you get a souvenir for life at the end. I still have my USA '94, Euro '96 and France '98 books, completed.

It was always about sending away @mattmid. You had that insert that said you could send away for 50 which was a lie - you could get as many as you wanted as long as you paid for them. All feels a bit seedy now, paying for stickers. But, as per the above, at least it was towards something that you could complete and keep, not like how card collecting have been bastardised by FUT etc.
 
Being a sucker for defending ,especially old Serie A defending in the 80/90's ,one thing that made me so happy during the Euros ,was how the Italians celebrated good defending like they've scored a goal almost.

In today's fast paced click based world where rainbow flicks are pretty much the only thing posted on soc media ,I really loved that!
