I enjoyed that article too, although I have to say I think for the time-being the 360 is comparable to the PS3, while that particular writer didn't. Good read though.
 
The guy simply stated the fact, as even adonis said as well, if anyone was to go up to the 360 thread and say anything negative, it'll be fireballs and brimstones of constant flaming hauled towards them at 540.3 mph in the space of 2.3ms :roll:.. but like adonis, i dont really care as i trully feel both consoles can offer ME different things and so i'm getting a 360 on the 25th :p of this month (whoohoo), and a ps3 prolly same time next yeah, but having said that, if people are not looking foward to this or dont have any interests in purchasing the console, why bother going through the thread looking for an oportunity to be negative, in a brainless effort to put other people (genuinly willing to give the console a good go before making final conclusions)off? :roll:

Well to be honest deftonesmx17 'rant' is quite accurate. It does seem the journalist that wrote the feature has been taken in by hype. He uses many examples of the PS3's power, or should I say unproven power.

heres a quote from their last paragraph which summed up the feature :

...what Wii and PS3 have on their side is time. With Wii's distinct identity, and PS3's bottemless potential, both leave the 360 feeling like the last of the old breed'.

Now its easy to critisize the magazine for what they said, but I personally respect Edge far beyond any other magazine. They target a different audience, and even have respect from people within the industry worldwide.

Saying that, I dont agree with them feeling the 360 already looks outdated. IMO there is a clear difference right now between 360 & PS3, and that difference is that the 360 is much better. The games, the funtionality and experience are more impressive. And this is coming from someone who owns both the PS3 and 360.

But how long will that last? Im not so sure, but Edge seem to think not very long.
 
I still don't really like the look of the PS3, the chrome effect bits look tacky and the memory stick cover seems pointless and feels cheap too.

The controller's analogue sticks are too light and loose like the PS2 controllers and the L2/R2 buttons as analogue triggers just looks like a rushed design decision.

The tilt thing is a gimmick as far as I'm concerned, I think only the Wii will do this well as clearly from the start it's been designed with motion-sensing in mind.

Games-wise, Resistance is OK, not as good looking as Gears and the controller lets it down for the aforementioned looseness but overall is pretty fun. It's a launch title, though, so I'd expect PS3 games in a year to look as good as Gears.

Call of Duty is just the 360 version with the occasional stupid bit of using the motion-sensing (having to gesture with the controller to open a box...).

I haven't tried Motorstorm or the others as they don't appeal to me.

Still, once the price comes down and we start seeing proper games most of us will probably end up with one anyway. :)

OMG, I made a rant about console hardware and for once someone saw that I wasnt just blowing out hot air and that I do at times know what I'm talking about. :applause: :lol:

Well I can give you my opinions.

Its an easy answer, but imo right now that 360 is much better. I guess thats kind of obvious with the PS3 launching with a majority of poor titles.

Im no PSP fan even though Ive got one, so the menu system is uninspiring. Certainly not next gen. Ive said this before, but I think the 360 blade system is genius.

Whats I do like about the PS3 is the whole look and design. It looks fookin sexy. Theres no screws and bolts around it, it just seems to be a solid shaped. The pad is also something I really like. Having a PS1 and PS2 the Dualshock is perfection for me. The L2+R2 buttons are more like triggers now, but not the same depth as the 360 pad.

I played Ridge Racer using the triggers and it didnt feel as good as PGR with the 360's bumpers, but it still felt better than holding X.

Ridge Racer is loadz of fun, but gets super hard early on, and Resistance is awesome. Ive got Gears of War on 360 and thinks overall thats slightly better, but the two are different types of games. The Sixaxis is very cool in Resistance. You can flick the control forward to get the map up, then flick it back to take it off. In the control set up you can map weapons to the motion sensing (e.g. grenades) but Ive stayed away from this so far as Im not really into 1st person shooters, so I need to get used to it first. The analogue sticks feel the same as the PS2 pad tbh. The whole feel and postioning is exact. To me thats a good thing.

The motion sensing is awful on Ridge Racer though. Maybe games like Wipeout will feel better tilting the controller.

Regarding the Wii, Im not feelin it right now. We've had one at work for a week now and its not wowed me, even though its lots of fun. I guess the games to buy with that is Zelda, but I dont have time for a game like that. Especially seeing as Ive got Gears Of War, Canis Canem Edit, Okami and Yakuza to get through! :shock:

Im kind of regretting the PS3 so early. The cost has skint me out for a few months and I really dont think it was worth it. The future is very bright though. And consistant conversations with people in the industry (like our very own Riot) make me feel like Ive got the best machine to play future PES/WE incarnations. And to me, thats the deciding factor.

Saw what I think was medal of honour on ps3 today. It looked fantastic. maybe changing my mind about getting one, but probably wait 6 months.
 
The 360 has been out for a year. The developers are used to the hardware. If anything this proves the ps3 is more powerful.
 
This wont be as good as and example as it could be but you should get the idea.

Fifa 2002 WC, a year after the Xbox was released and Fifa 2002 WC for PS2.

Yea..I thought the March release date was a bit odd. No major holiday period apart from Easter - most of us will be catching the sun anyway...

TBH, what Sony is doing ain't anything new anyway - maybe I am wrong, but we sometimes used to get games/consoles from Nintendo/Sega a full year or so after the Americans/Japanese :(
 
Adonis, you will not be happy if you require support for it!! out of interest, how will you get your machine fixed if it breaks down?

If it proved it was more powerful, the games wouldnt run worse on the PS3. And dont start with the developers have had time with the 360 as most of the games they compared are games with last-gen game engines. So if anything, they should run better on the PS3 if it was more powerful since a last gen engine shouldnt struggle on a next-gen system.

Well Im covered for the first year from the place I bought it from. If it does brake down after the first year then I'll have to buy a European one.

Whats also a plus is that I can download firmware updates from Sony's official site via a usb flash drive, then pop it onto the machine that way.
 
Only a month to wait to Pro Evo after that!

I'm glad I'll hopefully be playing the next Winning Eleven on my JPN PS3 at some point before the console may even be released in Europe.

Sony are going to lose out big style in Europe if that is the case though, people are just going to get fed up of waiting and get a 360 or a Wii (or both).

sony trying to push for those 1 million units sold before 2007.

EDIT: does anyone NOT in japan have a japanese ps3? does it work, are there any disadvantages?

Advantage of Japaneses PS3 in EU/UK is you don't need a transformer.

Is it that same for US, they might have a multivoltage 110v/220v thing.

Yep its true, but you need to get a 5A kettle plug to make work correctly.

Ive got a step down though. Prolonged use can damage the PSU.
