Sony PlayStation 3

In other news....

Now imagine you are in the final level of MGS4...you only got a tiny bit of energy left and so has the final boss...you point your handy missile launcher for the final kill and...

...the controller conks out(!). You can't shoot and it's Game Over!
:(

Yes, problems are surfacing with the SixAxis controller :( - specifically with the Bluetooth module.

I'm still bemused why Sony used Bluetooth for their controllers. It's ok for some things, but I always found it to be inconsistent in keeping a constant connection and it loses signal quite easily :(.

Why? Sony seem to slap technology together and fingers crossed it will work, it is the same with the sixaxis motion sensing. It is a bodged effort and a poor choice in technology.

Sony are REALLY treating the consumers this year!

Not only that but it is an old tech. that was tried by M$ back in 1998 ( read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SideWinder#The_SideWinder_Freestyle_Pro ). Nobody really cared for it then and I dare say after the initial "yay" response from $ony fanboys who live in a closet and think the sixaxis is new innovative tech  wears off, no one will care about it again and it will be forgotten........just like the freestyle. Seriously, $ony needs to learn what the term innovative stands for before they throw the word around all the time about something (the sixaxis.....aka the new Sidewinder Freestyle Pro with a $ony logo on it) that really isnt innovative at all.

Actually saw a real life PS3 in the flesh today, and yes its shiny, and even tho it was behind glass, the person who set it up didnt wear gloves as it had grubby paw marks on it. IT IS HUGE, I mean it looks like an old Video Player size as such, the 360 tis no super slim machine, but the PS3 sitting in front of it certainly cast a shadow over it. The machine did have RR7 in it, but didnt see it actually running the game :(

I see a new race in the mud, look like E3 2005 trailer

I think you may have forgotten the E3 2005 trailer TG ;) ....check this video:

E3's PS3 Motor Storm Presentation vs. Reality - Video

Motor Storm
was a very different looking game when it was shown at E3, like this video from GameTrailers shows. We're pretty much used to bullshot stills by now, but it's almost nice and nauseating to look at what we were told is actual game footage back at E3 and compare it with what was delivered. We can't wait to see what Killzone 2 ends up looking like considering that infamous footage from E3 2005 was originally touted as for real, then reneged, and now is apparently as beautiful as we originally saw it.

I remember that the Motorstorm director in the video had the cheek of saying that they lived up to expectations of the infamous E3 2005 video(!). The actual Motorstorm is nice - but it basically looks like a prettier PS2 game imo. I'm not saying that the 360 can do any better - but I reckon the difference wil l be negligible if any. This is particularly worrying as Motorstorm is being seen by many as the next showcase for the PS3 :eh:

BTW, the new Sega Rally is going to be released on 360 and PS3. Apparently it's gonna have some nice mud effects :^o

In other news, Kaz Hirai (aka that incredibly camp bloke who kept screaming Riiiiiiidge Racer! in the E3 presentation) is apparently replacing Ken Kutagari (aka the "Father of the Playstation") as boss of the Playstation sector. This move, with Hirai being a software person rather than hardware, has been suggested by analysts to be a sign that a PS4 may not be produced (as Sony wants to concentrate more on the software side of things a la Sega).

The path of the PS3 is getting to be quite similar to Sony's other product, the Walkman. They were the outright leaders in portable music players and they looked to continue with their MP3 players - instead they stuck to devices playing their own proprietary ATRAC format and completely lost their market to Apple and Creative. Brand name leaders are definitely not invulnerable - with disappointment after disappointment, I can't see things improving for Sony in the coming months :(

Who needs a PS3 when you have Viva Pinata on X360.

Gametrailer make a error, because compare the demo (and the worst race) of Motorstorm, the final version is better by far, ask to IGN and Kikizo - links -->

I dunno mate...it still looks v shabba ranks (absolutely no where near the E3 video)....in fact, I'll prob compare it more to that PS2 game a while back which was set in Afghanistan or summat :(

Here is the full E3 2005 video to refresh a few memories

You don't see the final version ? no and me too so

IGN : "To say it looks awesome is an understatement: the earlier builds we've played looked impressive but now it's faster, more detailed and closer to the original E3 tech demo than we ever expected."

Kikizo : "It's a game that comes together so effectively, you have to say 'wow'. It's possibly even better looking that the infamous, stunning target video trailer shown 18 months ago and it plays even better than it looks."

only this 2 websites have the final japanese version

PS: the European and US version are better again ;)

Lost Planet to PS3? Possible.

Lost Planet may come to the PlayStation 3
By: Avinash Bali | Aug 26,2006

Lost Planet, the most excellent sci-fi shooter (demo's up on Xbox Live and you should check it out ASAP) may lose its Xbox 360 exclusivity and jump to the PS3, if there is enough demand for it, i.e. If you remember, Resident Evil 4 was a GameCube exclusive, but due to unprecedented demand was carried over to the PS2 as well.

In an interview with eurogamer.net, Jun Takeuchi, the game's producer (alongside Keiji Inafune) has said that there is a strong chance the game may come to the PS3. "We will try to keep it as a 360 exclusive, but, from the company's point of view, when you think about the business, in the future it's something [port the game to PS3] we might have to do."

Does this mean we can expect Dead Rising on the PS3 as well?

some info and pics of Lost Planet can be found here: http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/lostplanet/index.html?q=lost planet

also found an interesting article about the PS4(!) and about PS3 firmware updates.

you know he has a point.

Everytime any sort of negativity is posted on the 360 thread you guys go crazy.

But Im cool with it, so keep hatin ;)

I personally love the look of the PS3. Really is awesome. Anyone read the latest edge issue? It blatantly calls Xbox 360 'dated', stating the Wii and PS3 are already showing its newness. A bit premature, but a great read about the new consoles.

Namco have come out and said that a game has to sell 500'000 copies on the ps3 to make profit this will scare a lot of companies off from making PS3 exclusive games.

Also with the recent Staff changes at Sony financial analysts are suggesting Sony is going to start concentrating on games software and the PS3 may be the last console.

Analyst: "I cannot imagine a PlayStation 4"
Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai believes the PS3 will be Sony's last console; sees Hirai appointment as Segalike shift to software.

In the months leading up to the launch of the PlayStation 3 and Wii, barely a week went by without one analyst or another issuing proclamations of doom or promises of riches for both Sony and Nintendo. Now that both consoles are on the market, many investment firms' in-house game-industry experts are giving their assessments of the two companies' fortunes.

The prognostication reached a fever pitch today, when Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) shuffled its executive lineup. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) president Kaz Hirai took over the position of SCE president Ken Kutaragi, who was promoted to SCE chairman and retained the title of SCE group CEO. Hirai will also be SCE's chief operating officer, and will relocate to Sony's Tokyo headquarters from SCEA's HQ in Foster City, California.

While Sony spun the changes as a "strengthening" of its executive team, many analysts saw it as a vote of no confidence for Kutaragi's stewardship of the PlayStation 3. The high-tech console's Blu-ray laser drive has been plagued by component manufacturing woes, which drastically limited supply of the console for its Japanese and North American launches, and delayed its European debut until 2007.

Some analysts went one step further, taking Hirai's succession as a harbinger of doom. No one was more pessimistic than Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai, who made the astounding prediction that the PlayStation 3 would be the last console Sony, the current console market-share leader, would ever make.

"The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software," said Sakurai. "I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4." According to the Financial Times, Sakurai's reasoning is that "Hirai's new global portfolio puts a predominantly software-focused manager in charge of the company." His logic is reportedly that, with the emphasis moving to software, Sony would go the way of Sega, transforming from a console maker to a mere game publisher.

Critics were quick to point out that, despite its problems, Sony is primarily an electronics manufacturer, and has invested billions in the research and development of the PS3's technology. Despite the hyperbolic tone of Sakurai's comments, SCEA publicity chief Dave Karraker issued a polite response. "Following the launch of the PlayStation 3 just a few weeks ago, and witnessing the huge consumer demand for the product, I think it would be rather short-sighted for anyone to predict there might not be a next generation of PlayStation product,"

Dont know how they are saying the ps3 is showing its newness/nextgenness/etc besides it being released later. Other then the bluray, which ms is countering with the hd drive, the games arent showing any newness imo. The possibility is there for ps3 with the number of processors, but atm i dont think there is much difference. Got a 360 and will probably get a ps3 so am not biased towards either. Just dont see what sony, at this point in time (as thats what edge are saying), has a newness/nextgenness about it that the 360 doesnt when looking at functional and graphical level out now. Design wise when looking at the box then yes, the ps3 can be seen as a newer design, others on the otherhand think it looks too much like the george forman grill. Whould think edge has a more indepth example of why they think this, maybe you can paraphrase adonis? ;)

I can tell you right now why they would say something like that.

The word hype comes to mind and nothing stops a journalist from falling for hype; they are a person just like you and me. The Cell has been nothing but hyped as if its the God of CPU's when in reality, its great/awesome for video, sound, and graphics, but it lacks the horsepower for general purpose functions which would be the gameplay side of games. Most people don't realise this, but the Emotion Engine CPU in the PS2 was more powerful than the CPU in the original xbox(it did double the FLOPS). The xbox CPU was more of a general purpose CPU like computers and thus explains why xbox games seemed to have better gameplay mechanics such as AI(unless the game was made for the PS2 and ported to the xbox-read-crossplatform games). Then you move to the RSX. Its main problem is its last generation shader arch. Dedicated pipes for pixel and vertex shaders is old. The ATI chip in the 360 has a unified shader arch, and on top of that has a daughter die that give performance hit free framebuffer effects(this is something even the latest computer GPU's don't even have). Unified shader arch is something new and in reality I would call the RSX dated with its separate dedicated vertex/pixel pipelines. Hell, just look at upcoming nvidia GPU's for computers, their Directx 10 GPU's will be............Unified Shader arch like the GPU in the X360. The most ironic thing is how nvidia slated Unified shader arch when they found out ATI was using it in the 360, then they turn around and are going to use it themselves for the new DirectX 10 desktop GPU's. I guess Unified is better, isnt it nvidia?:lmao:
