Sony PlayStation 3

What Classic is meaning that the PS1 was a greater machine than the DC for him, PS2 greater than the XB, and thus will the PS3 be greater than the 360, but those our his thoughts people, so dont flame him. Tho I know he can defend himself all to easily, ;)

Its his opinion people, his OPINION.

Like mine is:

N64 > PS1 > Dreamcast
Xbox > PS2 (thats very very very tough though, and very close)

Considering online play is a big big thing for me this gen I can see the 360 taking it for me too, so possibly:

360 > PS3

well i am so excited about my 360(which i just got a month ago) that now i would say 360 > LIFE

LOL!!! just kidding offcourse...but really i am just amazed by this machine and its online features!

Yeah I just liked the games on those systems better. I dunno if the PS3 will trump the 360, I'm just 'placing my bets' on which system I will prefer going by the past two Sony machines. Should it go tits up, I've pre-ordered the Wii today anyway ;).

Personally, I preferred the PSone over it's competitors, the PS2 over it's competitors and after buying a 360 I'm very, very happy (I've got ten quality games in my drawer that I don't have enough time to finish, but I love them all). I don't know if I'll have enough money for a PS3 or a Wii (I only want a PS3 for MGS, I only want a Wii if the games can utilise the remote properly), but I'd favour a Wii, simply because, bar one game, the PS3 doesn't have anything I want (or anything that the 360 doesn't already have).

The PlayStation always seems to have twice the games of the rival consoles though, which is what's made me shell out for them before (games like FreQuency and Amplitude, two of my favourite games of all-time, didn't appear on the XBOX, for example - I'm assuming Microsoft didn't think they'd sell).

I'm more than happy with the 360 for now, though when the videos and reviews of the other systems start creeping out, I might crack.

Well if I bought a PS3 I would eventually buy other games, obviously... I'm sure if PES was out only on the PS3, 90% of this forum would do the same.

I never really understood the hype of MGS. I had MGS 2 on the PS2 and don't get me wrong, it was a good game but I didn't think it was AMAZING. I thought Splinter Cell was better when that was released. MGS has far too many cut-scenes for my liking and the story bored me.

If the story bores you then it's pretty self-explanatory that you're not going to dig the game, the storyline is a massive part of why people enjoy it.

Finished the original Splinter Cell and enjoyed it, but thought the rest were just the same game rehashed and couldn't be arsed with them. No epic storyline either, which is why I love Metal Gear.

I'm sure everyone in the past has wanted a game so bad that they'd want to buy the whole console for it (taking in the consideration that you'll most likely buy other games too).
But is anyone willing to pay £425 for it? I think thats the big problem here.

I bought a Gamecube just to play about 3-4 games maximum and wasnt interested in the rest. And I remember when my old PS2 stopped working, I bought another one just for PES. But both times I was willing to do so because the console cost me about £150.

Adonis has imported one aswell IIRC

Yeh, and I sort of regret it tbh.

Ive got both Resistance and Ridge Racer, both US versions. Thats the good thing to come out of the launch so far, all the games from the US work on the JAP playstation. Its nice to see companies listening to Sony and keeping it all region free.

Im regretting it because it ended up costing me a fortune. The machine does look lovely though, and WE10 J League looks nice enough on it.

I personally though MGS2&3 didn't live up to MGS (which is in my fave game top 5). Is it me, or has they really camp-ified the enemies?

Splinter Cell is no way better than MGS though!

imo MGS 2 was the weakest, but still had a great story. Absolultely loved MGS 3 and MG 1 and 2 which were included on MGS3 Substance. I just love the way the story all connects ranging from the Metal Gear to Metal Gear Solid series.

That's 3 people anyhow have one on here, Kamy, Shane and Adonis, anymore info on the machine would be welcome lads I'm sure. And as you have both the 360 and PS3 Adonis, compare and contrast, and are you set for a Wii too? I'm even interested on how the SIXAXIS is doing for Resistance the first big FPS on the PS3, how do the analogue control sticks do this time round. We all know the d-pad is still the best in the biz I reckon.

The PS3 is still way down my list of wants, HDTV is number one.

Cheeky question: How much? ;)

Ok lets see:

£580 for the machine inc P&P.
£60 for the step down converter.
£88 for customs.
£40 each for the two games.

so thats a total cost of over £800

Well I can give you my opinions.

Its an easy answer, but imo right now that 360 is much better. I guess thats kind of obvious with the PS3 launching with a majority of poor titles.

Im no PSP fan even though Ive got one, so the menu system is uninspiring. Certainly not next gen. Ive said this before, but I think the 360 blade system is genius.

Whats I do like about the PS3 is the whole look and design. It looks fookin sexy. Theres no screws and bolts around it, it just seems to be a solid shaped. The pad is also something I really like. Having a PS1 and PS2 the Dualshock is perfection for me. The L2+R2 buttons are more like triggers now, but not the same depth as the 360 pad.

I played Ridge Racer using the triggers and it didnt feel as good as PGR with the 360's bumpers, but it still felt better than holding X.

Ridge Racer is loadz of fun, but gets super hard early on, and Resistance is awesome. Ive got Gears of War on 360 and thinks overall thats slightly better, but the two are different types of games. The Sixaxis is very cool in Resistance. You can flick the control forward to get the map up, then flick it back to take it off. In the control set up you can map weapons to the motion sensing (e.g. grenades) but Ive stayed away from this so far as Im not really into 1st person shooters, so I need to get used to it first. The analogue sticks feel the same as the PS2 pad tbh. The whole feel and postioning is exact. To me thats a good thing.

The motion sensing is awful on Ridge Racer though. Maybe games like Wipeout will feel better tilting the controller.

Regarding the Wii, Im not feelin it right now. We've had one at work for a week now and its not wowed me, even though its lots of fun. I guess the games to buy with that is Zelda, but I dont have time for a game like that. Especially seeing as Ive got Gears Of War, Canis Canem Edit, Okami and Yakuza to get through!

Im kind of regretting the PS3 so early. The cost has skint me out for a few months and I really dont think it was worth it. The future is very bright though. And consistant conversations with people in the industry (like our very own Riot) make me feel like Ive got the best machine to play future PES/WE incarnations. And to me, thats the deciding factor.

Played it for a week and am still impressed, like Adonis said the 360 is better at the moment, mainly because of the games it has had released over the last few weeks, however playing Resistance it is clear that for a first wave game it is very impressed. The new controller, it is a very interesting concept, it is definately lighter than the PS2 Controller, althought the same problem presists of the anolouge sticks feel very loose, the new trigger buttons though are excellent once you get use to them.

Overall the PS3 has lots of potential, is it better than the 360? That is hard to say, maybe evaluate that this time next year when the second/third wave of PS3 games start to come out.

Cheers lads, I'm sure the other guys appreciated that as well. Tis good to know though, as I said, an HDTV is on my list of wants before a PS3, esp seeing the PS3 looks ropey on SDTV.

Difference of opinions on the analogue sticks then from Kamy and Adonis, I do really want to try the SIXAXIS out. Is it the exact same size as a PS2 pad?

Does the PS3 look ropey on SDTV? If so is there an explanation as to why this is the case? the 360 doesnt look bad on SDTV but looks the nuts on HDTV :)
