Sony PlayStation 3

Noone is buying the PS3 in America they are sitting on the shelves due to the high price.

i can confirm this is 100% true....shortage was only during pre-xmas time..they have been available since dec 19th easily....i saw 25 ps3's sitting at fry's and 15 sitting at bestbuy..the past 2 days...nobody even looking at them(in fact they made big signs to attract attention to them)...although the people were just asking when the wii will be back in stock...when i purchased mine the bestbuy salesman was trying to talk me out of it.."you hear about it freezing right?"..."you heard it powers off in middle of games right?"..."you sure you want this right now?"..."you know we've had alot of returns on this right?".....not the most encouraging statements...i mean look at ebay.....you cant sell a ps3 for past retail price anymore..while the wii is still twice its price....this myth of ps3's being unavailable is total nonsense(Sony PR?)...i can walk to almost any electronics store here and get one right now....if any of you guys in the uk want a usa ps3 pm me...i can help ya get one :)

things ive done with my ps3 so far:
1.watched talladega nights 10 times(free bluray disk)
2.played fall of man 3 times(traded the game in)
3.cursed at the slow browser 2 times
4.enjoyed gthd demo(a positive yay)
5.threw my wii nunchuk at it for being useless
6.bought 3 bluray movies and enjoyed them quite a bit...apologized to my ps3 for abusing it
7.realized i just bought a cheap bluray player...yay!

hopefully some good games start coming out soon...because im tempted to sell this ps3 right now...

I've not had any freezing on my JPN model except for once and that was just because the game was accessing the harddrive when I tried to exit it. Guess maybe the US systems have more issues?

rockykabir - apparantly the GTHD demo doesn't have force feedback support, but it's been confirmed here (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=42736) that both NFS:Carbon and RR7 do feature it, so it may be that it will just be first (and 2nd) party Sony games that won't be able to have support for it.

reefur, did you purchase the 60GB version?
the base exchange i live by had a few 20GB versions only, and sold 'em quickly.

Well I have to say from my intial purchase of the PS3, Im enjoying the experience much more now. A few weeks back it was collecting dust, but now Im using it more than ever. Some of it has to do with finally completing Canis Canem Edit to be fair.

It started with downloading GTHD. What an unbelievable demo. Secondly was my purchase of F1 Championship. Now this game rocks. It looks amazing.

Im also appreciating the stuff the PS3 does besides games. Ive finally got myself wifi in the house and its amazing to go online or browse the PS3 store with this set up.

I really cant wait for march when the big games start to come out. That will make me feel even better about my purchase.

I think the stock issues are very different all over the US. It seems Sony need to think a bit more about where they are sending these consoles, as some parts of the country couldnt care less about it.

Console may cost EUR 30 more than expected
According to information on the Irish version of the official PlayStation 3 website, the 60GB version of the console will launch in the territory priced at EUR 629.99 - EUR 30 more than previously announced.
Text on the "Price" section of the website also suggests that the 20GB model will retail for EUR 529.99. However, it will not be available "at launch" in Ireland.
Back in May 2006 at Sony's pre-E3 conference, it was announced that the PS3 would cost EUR 499 / 599 in Europe, and the other EU territory sites still feature these price points.
But it seems that Irish consumers could be asked to pay more for their PS3s - or it could be that the other localised versions of the website have yet to be updated with the new price.
It's no surprise to learn that the 20GB model may not go on sale in some European territories. As early as last July, SCE UK's David Wilson told GamesIndustry.biz that it was likely the two versions of the PS3 will go on sale in the UK, but that there was still a decision to be made over whether this will be the case at launch.
SCEE was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

Bit of a slap in the face for europe (if the price follows irelands), we get to wait later and pay even more then the rest of the world? Im used to the $599 = 599euro Bulls@#t, but even adding 30 euro's extra for the pleasure?! Was reading eurogamer's 2007 preview for games to come, and the ps3 didnt have a single game that wasnt gonna be available for the 360 that i liked. All the ps3 exclusive games, bar msg (which im not that big a fan off anyway), didnt interest me in the slightest. From making sure i had enough money to go out and get it at the original launch date, its now looking more likely that after getting the 360 and now having my ps3 savings up to 900euro ill get a nice hdtv instead. Just doesnt seem worth it atm, and from the games its no looking worth it for this whole year either.

I agree that its awful that the price might actually go up when Im sure with the delay everyone predicted a slightly lower price.

I dont agree however with you saying that it wont be worth buying by the time it comes out in Europe. Games like Motorstorm, Hevenly Sword, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3 and probably Winning Eleven will be out in and around the Euro launch. Definately games worth buying a console for.

If I'm going to buy a PS3, I want some absolute beasts of games to play on it. Motorstorm looks no bad, I'll give you that, but the rest I wouldn't buy a system for (I disagree that there'll be a PS3 WE that soon, there's fuck all info on it so far, be a good while yet I think).

And which of these games are ps3 exclusives? Virtua fighter,we and virtual tennis are all coming to the 360 arent they? Heavenly sword doesnt interest me in the slightest, and while motorstorm looks like a laugh, thats all it looks like. So why would i spend 600+games+controller=750euros when i can get the games on my 360? I dont believe we on ps3 will be any different from the 360 version, after all they are both ported from a base model. Thats the point i was making, as a sony fan who was set to buy it last year with the original launch date, there doesnt seem much point for me to get it now/yet.

Well yeh good point about some of the games coming out on 360, but Im on about what would make me wanna buy the system. Also Virtua Fighter 5 has a 6 month exclusivity on the PS3. Heavenly Sword is looking amazing, Im surprised you dont care for it. It all depends on what sort of games you want I suppose.

@ ClassiD, Yeh I used to think like that too BUT Im sure you know how late Konami are about showing off a game before release. The past WE games always get a presentation just a month before release, so Im still hoping ;)

You can get your PS3 gamertag from this Sony site, even if you don't own a PS3. I forogt my tag, and the website.... I'll look for them in my email.

Anyway, "Rumour Has It" ft. Jennifer Aniston says that we might see an April launch, after a few Sony people have said in interviews...

On the Virtua Fighter 5 thing, AM2 themselves are porting it to the PS3, whereas another team is doing the 360 version (I believe this is a similar situation with Virtua Tennis 3, albeit with Hitmaker rather than AM2), so to be honest I would trust them more to get us an arcade perfect version of the game.

Yeh I agree. From all the reports by US journalists it seems it is an arcade perfect conversion.

By the looks of it the PS3 will be launching here on March 23rd, priced at £425. Its been said on threespeech, edge online and computerandvideogames.com so far.

Ive got the same date on a release schedule sent from head office so it seems pretty official now. Stupid stupid Sony, releasing a console in March is an awful decision.

Indeed stupid! 2 months before my A-Levels!

Ahhhh! To get one or not! I think part of why I want one is just for the sake of it really, no real killer titles or anything that attracts me.

PES, GTA, Halo, Virtua Tennis which will be the killer titles for me all on 360!
And Wii... I'm going to go crazy!

And here it is, the official press release by Sony:

Sony said:
STRICTLY EMBARGOED UNTIL MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY 24th JANUARY GMT

PS3 to Launch in UK on 23rd March 2007
Over 30 Titles for Launch Period
1 Million units forecast for Initial European Launch Period

London, 24 January 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced that PLAYSTATION®3 will be launched in the PAL territories including the United Kingdom on 23rd March 2007 at a price of £425.

Responding to retail and consumer demand, SCEE confirmed that initially only the 60GB model would be available, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand.

An expected one million PS3 units will be made available during the initial launch period to all SCEE territories.

SCEE also announced a stellar launch line-up of over 30 game titles for PS3, including eagerly awaited titles published by SCEE such as Resistance: Fall of Man™, MotorStorm™, Genji™: Days of the Blade, FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION and Ridge Racer™ 7. An exceptional range of titles in every genre will also be available at launch from the world’s leading third party publishers, including Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco Bandai, Sega, Take 2, Ubisoft, Vivendi Universal, and Sony Online Entertainment.

In addition to games on disc, an exciting range of fully-featured downloadable games
will debut on the PLAYSTATION®Network. These will include gaming icons such as Tekken®: Dark Resurrection and Gran Turismo® HD Concept; the fully-featured PS3 debut of the best-selling franchise Gran Turismo, realised with full HD (1080p) visual quality. Created by Polyphony Digital Inc and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Gran Turismo® HD Concept has been downloaded by more than 350,000 users since it was released in December 2006 in North America and Japan.

Also available on the PLAYSTATION®Network will be brainteasers such as Go! Sudoku and Go! Puzzle, and innovative games such as Blast Factor™ and flOw™, designed exclusively for PLAYSTATION 3 and delivering on the promise to provide original content created by non-traditional developers and publishers.

Concurrent with the European launch, a new System Update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued.

Announcing the launch details, Ray Maguire, SVP and MD of SCEUK said, “Following the hugely successful launches of PS3 in Japan and North America, we are absolutely delighted to be able to bring significant numbers of PS3 to the UK. To be able to launch with over 30 titles including retail versions and great downloadable gaming experiences across every genre shows that this is our strongest launch line-up in the history of PlayStation, and is what PlayStation fans in the UK have been crying out for.”

I dont care what anyone says, that is quite easily the best launch line up ever. Some might say its a bit too good. Too many games that deserve to do well wont because of more well known brands around them.

Whats missing clearly is a football game, and in Europe thats a silly mistake to make. I do believe however that EA plan to release the Uefa Champions League very close to launch, maybe even a week later. But the problem with that is the possibility of it being rubbish :p

All in all Im very happy with the content from a retail prespective. On a personal note I really think the pricing is awful. £425 = Failure. Nintendo got cocky by the time they released the N64. I see the same things happening here.

The only game I see myself getting is Virtua Tennis. And Tekken but thats a network game.

I dont' know how u guys feel... but Motorstorm is definitly worth a pick up... its almost considered to be the actual killer app over Resistance... although Splinter Cell does sound nice too...

That price is ridiculous. Microsoft should lower the price of the 360 by about 40 quid just before the PS3 comes out. No one will pay that much for a PS3 then, and Sony will be forced to lower the price.

£425. LOL. Fuck off.

I dont think it's an impressive launch line up, there are 16 or so titles already out on a XB360 and more to come on it, how anyone can think of blowing their wad of cash on that for Motorstorm, Fall of Man or Formula One, I would say they are crazy. Yes it will sell out, I have no doubt, but you looking at 425 for the console, then 18 quid for an HDMI cable or Component cable, which will no doubt be in short supply, that's you at 443 before you even get to game.......... any word on the RRP of the games then Adonis? I mean you can pick up FNR3 for about 25 quid new now on the 360........

You need to step out of your 360 fanboy bubble. Regardless of the titles being available on the 360, THAT IS ONE HECK of a launch lineup, much better than anyone expected. Also games such as Motorstorm, Resistance, Formula One and Virtua Tennis alone will sell the system.

I agree that the price is very high, but you can gurantee that there are people out there who will be willing to pay it. Whether they can sustain a high sales figure number after launch is the real challenge for Sony, I personally believe that the Playstation Brand image is extremely strong in Europe and that will help drive sales.
