Sony PlayStation 3

sony is just trading on it's brand name, for ages now there has been comparisons between the 360 and ps3....i for one will stick with my 360, and for a fraction of the price

No need to resort to flaming my friend, I am just the messenger passing on information. However, just as I have no evidence to back up my information, do you have some to back up yours?

I didn't meant to be personal....if you fee lit like that: sorry.
The pre-order numbers are in several Belgian and Dutch papers...

Same price:

:) I have a PS3, so don't bash me, it's just really funny. :)

I managed to have a go on my brothers PS3 today so I thought I would post some impressions.

Console
I was expecting the console to look ugly but it wasn't as bad as I first thought, its pretty big but that is to be expected given there is no external power supply - definitely a better situation than the 360. The interface is OK, I didn't spend too much time here to be honest. Having seen the PS Store in both HD and SD, it is much more usable in HD as you see more on the screen at once. Oh and one other REALLY nice thing...*silence*. The machine is so quiet, I really miss that.

Controller
The weight is a major surprise when you first hold it, it feels empty. The performance is as you expect given its just the Dual Shock 2 with Analog triggers. The one thing I wish they had changed was to have concave tops to the thumbsticks and used a different rubber for more grip. I played motorstorm and GT:HD and I didn't miss rumble once, infact it wasn't until I was on my way home I remembered there wasn't any. Definitely a non-issue in my eyes now.

Games

Motorstorm: I really enjoyed this. It looks fantastic and is a genuinely enjoyable experience. It isn't leaps and bounds ahead of anything on the 360, but it is unique at the moment.

GT HD: Hmmm well I loved it for one reason and that is the fact that it is based where I go skiing (although the roads really aren't there ;)). However my gripes with GT:HD are the same as all the GT games. The sounds are pathetic especially the skidding noises, the lack of damage is becoming more and more apparent (I realise this is not GT5 so I wasn't expecting it), and the driving model in general isn't all that great. If I compare the driving model to PGR then GT just feels too light in my opinion.

Blast Factor: I really enjoyed this game, it is very Geometry Wars in its play mechanics but it has a few twists of its own. Tilting the controller "bumps" the bad guys to the other side of the screen which is required to flip some of the baddies over.

All in all I have to say I am impressed. It isn't leaps and bounds ahead of the 360 graphics wise, it will be interesting to see some of the up and coming 1st party games. If I had the cash I would get one though, that is for sure.

Its interesting to see a few people on here who at first had their reservations to be happy with their experience with the PS3. Its not that bad is it? ;) Ive also discovered I dont really care what El Diego says any more. No offense intended, I know you dont mean no harm, but you're clueless. You're up and down like a rollercoaster, and change your mind more times than a hooker changes men on a Friday night.

Regarding sales though, they are fantastic right now. Virgin as a whole hasnt been groundbreaking, but many Game Stores have sold over 300 in two days. W've sold just under 100, which is very good for our store.

Like Ive said before its the wrong price and wrong time of year for it to sell out like crazy, but I personally also think its because its a week before pay day and people are skint.

I hear that kidneys are pretty valuable.

I want this console, but the price is just ridiculous now.

Paying for a console that's already been released in North America and Asia for 5 months and is £120+ cheaper does not make sense.

The most annoying thing is that the next proper Pro Evo is a long way away, but less longer away than it was before.

Err.

Disregarding the lack of features, Motorstorm is probably the most fun I've had in a racing game since Wipeout 2097. It's by no means a Gran Turismo-esque simulation but it is bloody fun(!).

In the same way how fun Crackdown is when jumping from building to building, the sight of seeing 16 or so other vehicles randomly flying all over the place is a sight to see. The turbo boost adds strategy to the game & playing online is a laugh.

Graphically, there are times where it gets extremely impressive. Close to, dare I say it, the infamous E3 2005 video(!).

Here is the other thing, to agree further with what LemonJelly sez, the game can get so immersive (graphically) that you don't notice the lack of rumble. Although I will definitely welcome a PS3 rumble pad with open arms, it's really a compliment to the developers.

It's by no means a 10/10 game with the numerous flaws (as was the original Wipeout on PS1) but Motorstorm 2 will be very interesting - hopefully it'll improve on the fundamentals like how Wipeout 2097 did to Wipeout :D

That's appeased me; I think Crackdown is utter crap. Hurray for two kidneys! :D

3 New Exclusive PS3 Titles From the Cellius project

First off, we thank QJ reader ShinFuYux for the tip! Now onto business: back in January, we talked about the the Sony-Namco Bandai venture dubbed as Cellius Inc. The joint-venture will be focusing on developing games which can maximize the capabilities of the PS3's Cell Processor. This new company is headed by Ken Kutaragi. Months have passed and we haven't heard about any of the games that they are working on...until now.

We have here some scans of new PS3 games that have been announced from the Cellius project - Brave Arms, Chain Limit, and Second Season 01. Since we don't understand Japanese, here's what we know about them, so far.

* Brave Arms - What appears to be a third-person action game in the vein of Ninja Gaiden. One man takes on an oppressive regime in revolt.
* Chain Limit - A James Bond/Jack Bauer style, spy adventure type of game.
* Second Season 01 - A first person, drama/sci-fi action title.

Apparently, these three games represent different narrative genres - one is action, the other survival, the other is investigative. All of them are QTE (Quick Time Event) fests wherein all its gameplay will involve selecting the available targets on screen and pressing buttons to do different actions to change how the scenes play out.

Also, all three are cinematic games which will involve bravery, heroes, danger among many others. With the news that Devil May Cry 4 is going multi-platform, details about these three exclusive PS3 titles is certainly good news. We'll certainly update you as more info comes our way.

So you've cared all this time? Awwwwww, come give me a hug!

Had a big play on the PS£ last night after the pub, wanted to show my mates and get their opinion. All of them are Sony fan-boys so I thought I would get their impressions and guess what!? They were more impressed with the Wii! So we played that all night!

Like Bill Gates said, there are only two consoles you need in your house: The 360 & the Wii.

(The PS£ is back to holding the door open. For now.)

A Microsoft guy will certainly not mention their competitor would they?:lol:

Anyway, the Wii argument goes without saying. With the worrying lack of games in the horizon, it'll be difficult for any gamer to keep the Wii as a sole console. Microsoft are just jumping on the bandwagon to show that they understand the consumers - a typical corporate tactic.

Who cares anyway? Why does everyone take everything so seriously around here!? You'd swear certain members were PAID by certain gaming companies to PROMOTE their products!

I don't like Fosters much so that's not a good comparison. If it was San Miguel I would be applauding!

:applause:

Fantastic find the_thing. These games look class. Ever since the merger and with Kutaragi off hardware and into this software division everyone was expecting something special. From the looks of it they've delivered. Is this why Sony have been so reluctent to secure 3rd party exclusives?

Only problem with the scans though is that they all look very similar in terms of graphic style. Impressive all the same.

Gran Turismo a simulation Rocky? I dont think so.... Forza? yep that is a simulation alright :).

Motorstorm is great fun, me and the missus are hooked on it and have gotten as far as ticket 6 so far. Great fun

LOL now that was a funny statement hehe! i played on the ps3 for about 5mins and got bored of it quickly. all i am gunna say is that if you have a 360 already, their is realy no point in getting a ps3

some more info on the 2 cellius games

Brave Arms (PS3) is probably...
Set in a pre-apocalyptic world of oppression and impractical fashion, telling the tale of a cybernetic ninja hailing from a post-apocalyptic future. In order to prevent said apocalypse from occurring, he must reach a worldwide television broadcasting station and spread the message of human acceptance and peace -- but not before decapitating the army of inept security guards standing in his way. At his side is the Brave Arm, a futuristic sword capable of experiencing a wide variety of emotions. Keeping the sword from becoming depressed, limp and otherwise useless is a key gameplay element that requires vigorous shaking of the Sixaxis and the constant collection of "Prozac orbs."

Chain Lim!t (PS3) is probably...
A stuntman simulation game. Your character, Arkleton Leapman, is at the top of his field -- the field being the finely honed practice of leaping away from cinematic balls of fire. After selecting a starting position and reactionary scream, an explosion sends Arkleton flying. A series of button presses and Sixaxis motions will determine your landing position, with more awkward results netting you fewer points. The ultimate goal is to appear in a film with Minoko Kaplowe and, apparently, stick your face up her skirt. Par for the course in the movie biz.

Second Season 01 (PS3) is probably...
A sequel to First Season 03, which itself was, confusingly, a prequel to Third Season 02. Second Season 01 picks up where the previous game left off: As Lord Stockington III, a disgraced ex-Buckingham Palace guard, it is your goal to be as rude as humanly possible. Part of this hinges on your ability to shove your way through crowds and wave a gun in every face you encounter (despite your gun never being loaded). Eventually, you build up your own band of ruffians and equip them with the ultimate goal -- booking an international plane trip and causing a flight attendant to experience a complete existential breakdown.
