Sony PlayStation 3

Everyone?!!! I am livid! I have just paid £1300 for a new 50"HD Plasma for my Setup and these guys were getting one for.. Dare I say it... Free?!!

Hope it wasnt a good make HD Tv and was just a cheapy one....

Well, at least it isn't FullHD.

Yes it is. The W and X series bravias are 1080p. Sony wouldn't have given away a TV that doesn't meet their "Full HD" remit of the PS3.

And it was for the first 100 customers. How fucking pissed would you be if you were 101 in the queue.

I have and I am bored with it already

(and Champions League for 360 is now out so the PS3 will be gathering dust. It was free anyway, right now it holds the door open in my hall.)

lol. They should've interviewed the 101st customer. :)

yo yo yo....guess what arrived in the post today! ;)

First Impressions:

+ Looks v slick. I also quite like the menu system but not as colourful as the blade system on 360
+ Very quiet. A huge difference from the airplane taking off decibel level with the 360
+ Nice to be back on the Playstation controller again. It is light but it's not as cheap feeling as I thought it would be.
+ Motorstorm looks quite fun :D
+ Setup is simple
+ Not as big as I thought it would be. It's actually more compact than the 360 as you don't have a huge power block to carry about.
+ Standard mini-USB connector in the controller. I can use my phone charger or even my iPod charger (i.e. no need for plug and charge kit).
+ Blu-Ray playback is fantastic!

- What have they done to the L2+R2 triggers on the controller?! It is no way like the 360's and feels very tacky. It feels like how the buttons on the PS2 feel after a while when it gets dirty (i.e. jamming up).
- I haven't tried it on my HDTV yet. On our living room Toshiba CRT, it's nothing spectacular. Bear in mind that this was how I felt when I first connected the 360 - the difference on HDTV is quite significant.
- Lack or rumble feels quite obvious. As soon as the rumble sixaxis comes, the packaged sixaxis is going off to eBay.
- Loading times are quite bad :(
- Lack of launch games.

Frankly speaking, it'll be v difficult to justify the purchase of a PS3. I bought it purely out of speculation for the future and I quite like to try out Blu-Ray movies. There will be some decent exclusive games coming out - especially if you like God of War adventure type games.

Nice one rockykabir!

It's playable.

Don't go playing it on an SDTV and then watching someone else play it on a HDTV though. You will die a little inside. The difference is humongous (now there's a word that should be used more often).
Well as long as it look s decent, i'm fine with that. HDTV has to come later...

Still believe it has to do with Namco's Statement about having to sell 500'000 copies of a game to make profit on the PS3.

Well it isn't just Namco saying that. Its actually obvious, with games costing $15million to produce they have to shift a shit load of units to make profit. FF and MGS4 will be multi platform - it is just a matter of time.

queues in a lot of shops for PS3s on the first day were about as interesting as this ^^^

Arrggghhh. Paradox better be quick with their app. I want to go online to buy Tekken 5 DR but it wants me to upgrade the firmware.

Hooked it upto the HDTV and the difference is incredible - far more than it was with the 360 from SD->HD. Motorstorm went from "looks decent" to "WOW!"

I actually quite like the controller weight. People mentioned that it feels tacky but I kinda feel Sony have got the weight right with this - it feels portable and easy to handle. Although I highly praise the 360 controller, it feels v nice to use the Playstation controller again (as mentioned previously).

I got it and I love it!

Only negative I have found so far is the L2+R2 buttons. I always feel as if I'm going to slide of them when playing motorstorm. They just feel very uncomfortable, and my fingers hurt a bit after playing for a couple of hours. If they only hade something at the end of the r2+l2 buttons which would go out a bit to stop you from sliding off, and also rest your fingers on I think it would be perfect.

so now sony are trying to switch the buttons on car games to emulate a xbox controller?

Apparently 108,000 Europeans bought one on launch day, out of around 1 million shipped.

I don't have any links to back that statement up though. If it is true, its pretty poor. On the other hand though, as the hype takes control and word spreads, at least people will actually be able to walk into a shop and buy one, which they couldn't do with the 360

I would doubt there was as man as that left on the shelves, but it is a steep price to ask people, esp as it does not have an HD cable in the box! When I got my 360, I got four games and an extra controller and other bits and bobs for 445, for me that seemed reasonable as I got what I wanted at the time, COD2, PGR3, Tiger and PDZ (what a complete daft thing that was tho ;))

But as you say Flawless, once word of mouth spreads people can go and get one, unlike the 360 and the Wii. I'm just put off paying alot for a console, 300 is about my limit, and I have only done that once, the mighty Sega Saturn!!!

After playing the PS3 all week I appreciate how good the blades system is on the 360 - I don't like the PS3 interface. There are too many niggles for me with the PS3 so I am sticking with the 360 for now. I have decided to keep the PS3 for now as:

1. The games coming out for it could be good
2. It makes a brilliant door-stop!

EDIT: Just read the above posts - there were LOADS of PS3s in Cardiff Tesco yesterday! I thought people would be breaking their necks to get one!?

"Apparently" you are talking out of your arse son...in Benelux alone 44.000 were pre-ordered...so the rest of Europe would only have bought 64.000...

I read in the papers today that here in Belgium today it is impossible to find a single PS3...

I'm getting tired of this bias...jesus it's a good thing that there is a rivalry between Sony and Microsoft.
If you know that people are payed to flame against XBox360 or PS3 (i bet mega ass-holes like El diego would dream to make a living out of their mental handicap) it's kind of sad that other people let themsleves drag into this stupid rivalry...

I've bought a PS3 but i've hesitated a long time and i've not whatsoever against the 360...i hopeit continues to be a success and i hope that bot Sony and Microsoft make a good living out of their next gen consoles...in that case, we the consumers are the big winners...

yeah i bought one yesterday after i had been on a waiting list and i like it , the controller is light and easy to use , and i also like the touch sensitive buttons on the front of it which keeps it looking smart without big power and eject buttons .

No need to resort to flaming my friend, I am just the messenger passing on information. However, just as I have no evidence to back up my information, do you have some to back up yours?
