Virtua Tennis 3 - 1080p

The Virtua Tennis franchise wouldn't be complete without the tennis gods and goddesses. And see, isn't that why we love playing it? Guys go ga-ga over Maria Sharapova. Girls go goo-goo over Andy Roddick. So, when Sega announced that Virtua Tennis 3 would run in all its 1080p glory, tennis fans are serving up to see their loves playing on high-res.

The whole 1080p was announced by Sega just a few days ago. And today, we're going to make it doubly abso-officially-lutely confirmed with pics as proof. See them below for yourself (and note the "Full HD 1080p" tag on the TV monitors). This is the second title after Gran Tourismo HD confirmed for 1080p support, and surely we'll see more in the future.

Its nice but im not too fussed about the whole 1080P situation, My LG HD plasma 42" cost me £1000 and does the trick for 780P and 1080I and thats ok for me. If and I say again IF I get a PS3 I wont be too fussed as my LG has got an HDMI socket so I should be ok.

Re: Sony PlayStation 3 "Delayed in Europe until March 2007"

1080p will not make a larger difference on smaller screens because you cant really see all the detail.

Personally, Im really happy with my 720p Samsung LCD and it will be more than enough to get most enjoyment out of this new generation.

Re: Sony PlayStation 3 "Delayed in Europe until March 2007"

The thing about the 1080p games, is how will we know it it is not just not upscaled 720p? It could be a gimmick really, but lets hope its 1080p!

Like GT4 was on the PS2 (1080i that was nothing more than upscaled 480p), yeah thats possible, but lets hope they don't try to pull off a lie like that one again.

The way I look at it, this is just $ony trying to prove their wang is larger than the competitions.

All Xbox 360s will soon support 1080p and those who currently own a 360 will have to download the 1080p update.

No HDMI cable has been announed yet. 360 can support 1080p through other types of cable.

Most likely MS will release a new version of 360 with a HDMI socket.

Re: Sony PlayStation 3 "Delayed in Europe until March 2007"

September 20, 2006 - According to the Famitsu inteview with Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo HD will have two SKUs on the PS3. One of these games will ship with no cars, all of them will be purchased via microtransactions.

The other, Gran Turismo HD: Premium, will ship with two courses and 30 cars, with an additional 30 cars and an additional two courses online at a later date. The Premium game is being considered a prologue to the PS3's eventual Gran Turismo 5.

The microtransaction-focused game, Gran Turismo HD: Classic will be the online-focused entrant into the GT-series. In this game, players will (reportedly) start with no cars or courses available to them. Instead, they will need to purchase their stable of cars and courses to race on. The pricing reported in the Famitsu piece indicated that cars would cost between 50-100 yen ($0.43-$0.85) and courses between 200-500 yen ($1.71-$4.26). There are approximiately 750 cars and 50 tracks available for purchase in the GT: HD Classic. Let's do the math:

# 750 cars for $0.50-$1.00 (Sony will round-up, don't you think?)
# 50 tracks for $1.50-$4.50

A complete copy of the game will cost gamers somewhere between $426.50 and $975, and that's without factoring in whatever Sony decides to charge for the menus (since that's all you'll get with GT HD: Classic).

Does this sound a little familiar? It should. Phil Harrison alluded to a possible future like this one last June in OPM.

I'll give you an example; Kazunori [Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo series] would kill me for this: Imagine Gran Turismo shipping on a disc with one car and one track. And then you can browse, online, a dynamic circuit of vehicles that's growing every day because either the car manufacturers are adding new vehicles or we're adding new vehicles. And you can see a specific-type car that's being called up and say, "I think I'll play with that one. Let me download and play it." Maybe the business model allows you to play it for a day; maybe the business model allows you to own it forever. But that content is now yours on your hard drive. Or [maybe you could download] new tracks, new music, whole games.

Now, is it possible that the game will be a full-priced title with a built-in download system that allows users to download cars and tracks equal to the number of the game's retail price? We hope the model ends up similar to this. However, right now, details are extremely sparse, and Sony has to have an answer to these questions -- most of the people who can answer are over in Tokyo, we'll update if we hear back.

20GB PS3 = HDMI
gamespot said:
It appears that Sony heard the groans when gamers were informed that the 20GB SKU of the PlayStation 3. Sony reps confirmed to GameSpot that Sony has put one HDMI port back in the cheaper PS3 model.

Sony has also set a price for the 20GB model in Japan...sort of. The console will be available for less than 50,000 yen ($429.61). The 60GB model will still be set at an open price, meaning it's up to Japanese retailers to set the price tag.

Sony TGS Conference Was The Worst Ever?

Since the beginning of time

Sony conference at the Tokyo Game Show has just finished and unless you find some CGI of African baby elephants intresting you're not going to be very happy with that the Krazy Ken had to say at the event. The conference itself begin almost 10 minutes late., you would think they were trying to build up some hype by making people wait but that not at all what happened. At 2:12AM (BST) Ken Kutaragi came on stage and began his talk titled "PS3 - Creating the next generation of computer entertainment"

Thinks started out well with Ken announcing there would be over 200 consoles in the venue for the show. From there he went on to introduce some video of Ridge Racer, Mobile Suit Gundam: Target in Sight, FFXIII and Virtua Fighter 4 running on a PS3 in all its high-def glory. Although it was just videos of game the gathered audience seemed interested enough in what they saw, Sony were indeed of to a good start and were finally going to let their games shine and showcase the power of the PS3

Er, No....

That's all the games that Ken had to show - from there on Ken talked about the progression of PS1 through to PS3, PC's, mobile phones, databases and something called GMS - Global Mapping System and shopping. People were bored…If kids were allowed into the conference they might have broken down in tears.

Finally after an hour of explaining the Internet is not a dump truck but a series of tubes he mentioned that Mega Drive and PC Engine game would be downloaded to the PS3 on Sony network, he also said some videos would make there way onto the network too. Overall he made the whole thing sound like some bastard child of an Xbox360 and a Wii after a night of togetherness.

After that it looked like things were finally looking up as Ken showed a tech demo titled Afrika that showed jungles, plains, and some really lovely elephants and wildebeest running around. The video looked great but it was not a game, it was nothing more than a tech demo that none of us would ever play.

After this played things were once again looking up. The audiences were waiting for Ken to open the floodgate. “Show us the games”, “show us the games” they were probably chanting in their heads but the poor, poor audience we not about to get any games as Ken announced the show was over and invited some selected people to ask some questions. Sadly, the Q 'n A was akin to a Fox News interview with President Bush where no hard questions were asked. Then Ken walked of stage, it was all over, there was nothing to see here!

It looks like Sony ruined their chance to once again get the mass media painting the PS3 in a positive light. Sure they have “200 units on the show floor” but those game better be awe inspiringly good to recovered from possibly the worst attempt at a conference ever. Overall very disappointing.
