If I could pull off this shit he does at the end of the 15 minute trailer I'd happily take a few shots up the arse!

And those are no renders JayD, MGS always uses the in-game engine for it's cutscenes.

You may well be right, but until I see the game in playable action I won't believe Sony, not anymore.

I remember the Emotion Engine, it was real!

When I found out it was a load of bollox, I cried for an hour. Pure emotion I tell thee.

Guys theres news from Sony that the 20gb model DOES have all the features of the 60gb pack.

So the report that the machine doesnt have memory stick, HDMI etc funtionality are false. This is according to Phil Harrison.

More news when I get it

The key word there is cutscenes. This is not an indication of what the graphics will be like whilst playing the game, however it is how the game will look when playing one of it's many cutscenes. MGS has always had decent graphics, I would expect nothing less with MGS4.

The factsheet came from the Sony's Japan site and so can be considered official. If it is the case that they will include it, they must have changed it due to people complaining and the like...

They wouldn't reverse there decision 2 days after the announcement. That wouldn't show them in a very good light.

That link to C+VG doesn't work for me anyway.

If it uses the in-game engine to show the cutscenes, why is it not an indication of how it will look in-game? They always use the same engine in MGS, in MGS3 certain cutscenes had slowdown for this reason. In the larger MGS4 trailer, you can see slowdown when Snake is at the graveyard and the helicopter comes in, blowing all the flowers away.

Have to disagree with you Dave, it will look that good, if not better IMO.

As for Sony backtracking, they haven't done, Phil Harrison just said both machines don't differ in terms of what they can do it's just that one outputs HD in a different manner from the other (HMDI vs component).

you were spot on mate. CVG have pulled the story, not the first time they have chatted out of their arses.

Heres the full report:

eurogamer.net said:
Following announcements that Sony plans to launch two versions of the PS3, Phil Harrison has denied reports that the 20GB model will feature lower technical specs than the 60GB version.

"What we should be clear about is that the functionality is identical in both machines. There is no difference in what the machine does," he told BBC News.

Confusion arose after Sony Japan issued a spec sheet which appeared to indicate that the 20GB PS3 would not feature Wi-Fi, HDMI output or inputs for data storage cards. But according to Harrison, both versions will support high definition output: "It's just that the technical method of extracting audio and video from the devices is slightly different."

He went on to defend Sony's decision to launch two versions of the console by highlighting the importance of consumer choice. "Some people might be interested in the PS3 primarily and exclusively as a games system, whereas other users might look at it as a multimedia hub in the home, which is games and music and movies and other digital content." Harrison said that he personally would purchase the 60GB model.

The PS3 will launch worldwide this November - a year after the arrival of the Xbox 360. At Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference Bill Gates said the company expects to have sold 10 million consoles by then, giving it a healthy head start over Sony. But Harrison is not convinced, stating: "I doubt they will achieve that."

He is also doubtful that Microsoft will be able secure a position as market leader once Sony's new console arrives: "I think the clear advantages of the PS3 will mean that this product is very well accepted in the marketplace. We have a great brand and fantastically loyal consumers."

The PS3 will launch in Japan on November 11 and the US and Europe on November 17, priced at EURO 499 for the 20GB version and EURO 599 for the 60GB model.

Our sister site, GamesIndustry.biz, will be publishing our own interview with Phil Harrison tomorrow.

so yeh, same rules apply.

Yes and it did its job just fine............

If $ony had not made the PS2 as complex as it was, console game developers would have zero clue on how to program for these multiple processing unit "next-gen" systems. The emotion engine had two co-processors and the VU1. Many developers have even stated this themselves. As much as they hated the PS2 for being overly complex it paved the road for these next-gen systems and helped them learn how to efficiently run code on more than one processing unit. ;)

They are both saying the same thing. Whatever way you look at it, the cheaper machine loses functionality. They are correct that you can output in HD, but when blu-ray encryption comes along you won't be able to play those movies on the cheaper console. Then of course you lose the card slots as mentioned previously.

Very nice :)
Just like PSP, and also in Japan some Bravia LCD's come with the same interface.

Well it's not that big of a deal then, but I'll still go for the more xpensive option, just because I'm like that.

Re: PlayStation 3 - 20Gb : $499. 60 Gb: $599

Thanks! Let's hope it can play videos like PSP but with higher res :)

Re: PlayStation 3 - 20Gb : $499. 60 Gb: $599

Imagine if this gets hacked like the PSP. Its bound to happen if you can run apps on it.

Re: PlayStation 3 - 20Gb : $499. 60 Gb: $599

Inevitably it will happen, but if Konami "somehow" get all lisences, or the ingame editor becomes nextgen/comes of age, we won't need to.

As we chip out PS2's JUST to play PES/WE patched right?

Obviously rockykabir discovered game saves, because they are like 1MB+ and you need a fast connection to download them. I have no idea what else he could be talking about.
