Sony PlayStation 3

Rumours say it launches late this year in America and Japan but Europe will have to wait until march 2014

From eurogamer
Sony's highly anticipated successor to the PS3 is set to launch later this year in Japan and North America, but not reach Europe until early next year, according a report by Edge.

The report attributes the delay to "complexities involved in European distribution." This wouldn't be the first time this happened as the PS3 launched in November 2006 in Japan and North America, but didn't reach Europe until the following March.

Sources also indicate that the PS4 will ship with a redesigned controller similar to the DualShock 3, only with a small touchpad in the center where the Select, Start and PS buttons currently reside. The touchpad will be based on the same technology as the one on the back of the Vita.

Another new feature of the controller is a "Share" button that will allow players to snap screenshots and record video to distribute online. Evidently, the console will continually record the most recent 15 seconds of footage, which players will then be able to edit or upload online. Sources claim it can capture all this footage with no processing penalty.

While Orbis only has 4GB of GDDR5 RAM - compared to Durango devkits' 8GB DDR3 RAM - Sony noted that it's pushing for the final console to bump it up to 8GB. However, GDDR5 is quite snazzy and capable of moving data at 176 gigabytes per second, which should negate the sort of performance issues the PS3 suffered from. Our tech expert (texpert?) at Digital Foundry, Richard Leadbetter, was skeptical of these claims. "There has never been a system with 8GB GDDR5, ever. I think this is just wishful thinking," he noted [Update: Nvidia's $3,200 Tesla "super computer" dual GPU card is an exception but even this is essential two 'systems', each interfaced with 4GB of GDDR5].

Ha! Yea, that's me :) did MSG you back.

Got a job now that pays real earth money, instead of the outdated concept of me doing loads of work for people and then they decide to pay as and when!

Missed Rock Band too be honest. Find it a real stress reliever and loved having it back. Just picked up GT5 and Split/second for £10 the pair.

I wasn't sure if it was some random who bought the one you traded towards the wii and he/she was pilfering your download history.

next gen will block used game sso i might actually skip it all together. i only rent/buy used games. well i have 30 years of console gaming..i guess time has come!

What the hell's taking Persona 4 Arena so long to be released here? It's already out on the US PSN and there's no way of purchasing it on that either because of the nonsensical region-lock.

Atlus have a history of doing this as well. They need to pull their finger out with regards to publishing in Europe.

Anyone got an account with ShopTo not able to complete the card form?

I tried adding my debit card but the option to select the country the card is from doesn't appear to be available, and it won't let you continue unless you select a country.

Apparently the triggers are much closer to the 360 triggers.

Also read today that backwards compatibility may be done through gaikai streaming.

I don't know how that will work for people who own physical PS3 games. Will the PS4 ask to insert disk for verification then allow me to download/stream the BC game?

I'm not willing to re-pay for my already owned games.

I like all the rumours so far, the pad looks chunkier, I do hope its a little wider though.

Been a while since I'v been on my PS3, but when shutting down the console (Through the menu), does it prompt everyone about close down after downloads? I'm not even downloading anything and it does it.

Should only ask you "Do you want to shut down after downloads are complete?" if you are actually downloading something at that time.

this little bug happened to me a few times. but after some time the system goes back to normal.

You get that message if you have auto updates turned on. It can either mean you have a file mid download or trophies that need syncing or there is an update out for a game.

I might be the only one who doesn't want the sticks to change to those 360-alike ones.

It's the triggers not the sticks that are the problem.

No you're not alone. I find holding the 360 pad awkward with how the sticks are placed. I prefer the symmetry of the ps3 so both my hands are the same.

Where did kotaku get November from ?

Lastly, what time is this happening? 11pm uk time?
