Sony PlayStation 3

Have you tried plugging the pad into the console and then resetting it with that little pin hole round the back?

Yep. It's the actual battery itself that's knackered. It'll blink the lights to say it's charging for 10-20 secs but then the lights just go off. But plugging it into the PS3 and it's fine, the 1 light goes solid and it works okay.

I was thinking that but my old pad has some wear on the label, it clearly looks used :(

Going to buy another one later on anyway, but still going to keep up the complaint with Sony just to make a point that their product is shit and they should acknowledge that.

Edit: Just emailed the managing director of Sony with my complaint.

Edit: Reply received:

Do You Have a Counterfeit PS3 Controller?

In case you haven’t heard, the latest PlayStation 3 update has had certain…effects on unlicensed controllers. But even if you’re a loyal Sony fan and supporter, you may have unknowingly been sold one of these devices. How do you know? Here are some things that you can look for.

With the 3.50 update of the PS3, Sony has deactivated certain 3rd party controllers, and some seemingly official ones. Their reasoning is that these devices are improperly manufactured and actually pose a threat to your own safety. So let’s say you are in the market for a new controller, but want the best deal. By being a smart shopper, you can make sure that you aren’t ripped off.

* If shopping online, always look for shady language. If the price is twenty to thirty dollars below MSRP but still claims to be a “new” controller, chances are it probably is counterfeit. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
* Even if shopping on eBay from trusted and promoted sellers, be wary. If they claim the “new” controller will be outside of the box, don’t trust it. There is never a need to hide the official PlayStation Licensed Product sticker

But what if you are worried about if you may already have a counterfeit controller? There are definitely ways to discover that, some of which don’t even require you to turn on the device.

* If you have consistent trouble wirelessly syncing your controller to your PS3, the device may be counterfeit. Why get a wireless controller if it HAS to be plugged in?
* The LEDs lights on the controller that signify which Player it is controller will not be flush with the outside shell. Official controllers ARE level all the way across.
* Compared to an official controller, the seams beneath the analog sticks where the bottom and top halves of the plastic meet will be sharp.
* The center Home button on a counterfeit controller will be marginally darker than the Home button on an official controller.
* The SONY logo on the top of the face of a counterfeit controller will not be aligned correctly with the standard controller.
* The Square, Triangle, Circle, and Cross buttons will be raised higher on a counterfeit controller.
* The colors of these face buttons will be dull, compared to the bright colors of an official DualShock 3.
* The label on the back of a counterfeit controller will be paper sticker. The label on the back of an official controller will have a thin layer of plastic over the paper sticker, giving it a matte finish and a more protected feel.
* The this paper label on the back of a counterfeit controller will not be correctly aligned with the shape of the device on the back, as it was most likely put on by hand.
* When you turn on a counterfeit the controller, the flashing red lights on the outside will actually shine THROUGH the casing of the device, something that would never happen on an official product.

Remember that these are only some of the signs that will indicate to you if you have an unofficial product. There may always be more signs that we haven’t covered here, but here are some of the indications for you to look out for. If you see one of these products being sold online, report the seller to organization. Keep an eye out for these types of issues when shopping at used game stores as well where you can inspect the products before you buy. The safest way to be sure is to remember to buy something with that “Officially Licensed.” sticker If you aren’t so careful….your very controller may explode.

Where do people get their PSN Cards from then? I used to get them from Zavvi or The Hut, but they dont seem to be doing them anymore. Cheers.

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (6th October 2010)

Good afternoon, let’s get cracking shall we.

We have one full game for you this week in the form of Ferrari: The Race Challenge. Fully featured with (up to) 16 player multiplayer, and a single player tiered career mode, you can show off your prowess with a range of some of the best vehicles ever manufactured (no Ferrari didn’t pay me to say that).

For your PSP needs we have Phantasy Star Portable 2 available, and the Essentials range keeps growing with nine additions this week (this necessitates an exclamation mark)! I also feel the need this week to highlight one of the latest minis added to the roster; Ace Armstrong Vs. The Alien Scumbags. Not only is the name fantastic, but it looks like a pretty nifty old-school shooter (like Mum used to make).

Modern Warfare 2 saw a week’s price promotion on the Stimulus and Resurgence Packs start yesterday, and we have another week of the recent Special Offers to go. I’ve also listed this month’s PlayStation Plus content for you all too, because I’m such a nice chap.

I gather some of you will have two week’s worth of abuse to hurl my way, in light of my absence last week, so I’d better get straight to the comments section hadn’t I? :-)

Laters.

I have been a lovefilm subscriber for years, sent them tons of emails about getting the service on the PS3 lol

Well, I had a terrible crash playing nba 2k11 and the YLOD was pretty sreious. For all the tests I did, it was something in the main board that blew up, surely the processor.

As having it repaired costed 75% the cost of a new slim, I bought a new one and used the old ps3 to do a little i+d on how it works (disassembling everything, connecting blue-ray to other devices and all sorts of experiments that resulted in nothing but were fun for a while).

So I bought a new ps3 and as a result I've lost everything in the old hard-disk. There was nothing extremely important except some savegames, namely Red Dead Redemption and Little Big planet saves. But seems there isn't a definite way to recover that data if your ps3 is totally wasted for what I've read. I've kept the hard disk just in case.

The new slim is much less noisy, a lot less! And it came with the move controllers, that my wife really wanted for christmas, so now she has them! The bundle with the move controller came with some demos but not a single finished game, which is pretty lame in my oppinion and not the way you want to launch things, but sony is just like that...

The technology is really awesome and works very well for what I can see, now I only need a fun and good game to play coop with my wife. Any suggestions?

the Sports Challenge is a fun game that you can play with ur mates and ur missus, and I haven't played it, but the office chair game seems interesting for those that don't want to have too complicated controls...

also drek, maybe now you can try the move controllers on 2K11...they're compatible, but since i don't have a move controller, i dunno how well it works, or how they could be connected...

Going to try the move on 2k11 definitely, though I don't see how it can improve the experience. Probably will get Sports Challenge for some laughs with the missus. Thanks.

Trailers of Ico/Shadow of the Collosus HD on the PS store today look awesome. And then to cap it off... I spot a new trailer for Last Guardian!

Downloaded the trial of Costume Quest. An RPG by Tim Schafer. Quite enjoyable. May pick up the full version later for £8.99.

Shit, I may not be able to import MLB The Show now.

I was about to import NCAA Football 11, now I aint too sure whether to or not. So because of pirating twats, it has gone from the most open console ever, to one which could be the most closed off ones. :(

Since the advent of the SDK 3.50, it is possible for official developers restrict their PlayStation 3 games at a specific region.

Really? I was under the impression that devs could region-lock their games at any point but they've chosen not to. And that's since the PS3 first came out.

Not sure I'd believe that story to be honest.

I remember the Stranglehold devs originally planned to region lock the US version of the game that included a HD version of the Hard Boiled film but they backed down due to fan pressure.

That's the only case I can think off.
