May pick up DeathSpank. Was playing the demo last night from the US store. Monkey Island meets Diablo is what the press is calling it and their not too far off but I could see the combat getting repetitive down the line.

PS Plus related.

Is there a way to know what you console has downloaded?

My PS3 was downloading something this morning (4am to 6am) but I don't see anything different on my XMB. The last automatic download gave me Modnation and Heavy Rain demos.

PS plus automatically downloads update to games you have for your ps3 instead of when you next put the disc in. Hope that helps.

Looks like my PS3 has bit the dust, got the YLOD this morning and am left with a shiny black doorstop with a red flashing light.
Here are my options
Contact Sony and end up with a refurb'ed PS3 for £150
Go to a repair shop and take my chances for around the £90 mark
New console, now this is where the tricky part comes in, do i go for a new PS slim or dip my toe into the 360 market
I've got around 15 PS3 games including newbies like Red Dead, so i could trade them in. Out of curiosity which of the 360's come bundled with wireless adaptors or wi-fi?
Any help or ideas welcomed boys, proper gutted today.

Bad news NSH, I went for a slim but as I had to open my PS3 up to get out a rental disk it will cost a lot to fix so I'll wait until the prices drop as it will come in for BD player in one of the bedrooms...

The main reason I went PS3 again was the BluRay player to be honest, that and free online but I guess it's a personal choice in the end both have large online bases so it may come down to what your mates have?...

What's microsoft's policy on faulty machines? TBH the PS3's ylod is a manufacturing fault, so to pay £150 for a re-furb with only 3 months warranty is taking the piss a little. For the same price I could buy a new 360, what's the deal with xbox live prices and such?

You can put your psn on 5 different consoles to download stuff bought the best way to do it is create an account you don't use share it with 4 other people and everyone top it up then buy what you want and everyone download it. Some full games don't allow you to all play at the same time

Problem is you have to be signed into that account to use whatever you've downloaded.

I remember trying to download Tekken at a friends house from my account so a bunch of us could play it, but it wouldn't let me use it once I signed into his account/deleted my account off his PS3

That's because you have to leave your account on that ps3, i know what i'm talking about i have a 2nd ps3 that my lil bro uses and we play with map packs and such at the same time

Well I've gone for the new 360 250g slim from argos with PGR4 Gow2 and Fable 2 for £209,:BOP::BOP::BOP::BOP:
what's the crack with xbox live then?
Sony can kiss my balls, I paid over £400 for a faulty machine and they want me to pay £150 for a refur'd model to cover their arse.

MS didn't hold their hands up and admit their problem. They fought and fought claiming there was no problem until a court ordered them to extend their warranty for the red ring and I think one other error only. Any other errors than that and you're on your own.

If you bought it less than 2 years ago... where on earth was still charging £400+ for it? Was it a huge bundle with loads of games?

+1

Was working when bought, lasted for less than 2 yrs, the lead-free solder and overheating is the problem, at least Microsoft held their hands up and admitted there was a problem, Sony have just buried there heads in the sand.

I've owned my current 40GB PS3 for more than two years without an issue and I use it on a daily basis. In comparison I went through five 360s in a period of two years with a range of issues.

Sony haven't buried their heads in the sand, you are way outside of the 1 year limited manufacturers warranty. If your machine was faulty at any point before that period was up they would have fixed it without issue. You're just unlucky, and in hindsight you should have extended your warranty.

I do hope you've taken an extended warranty out for the new 360 as after the 1 year limited manufacturers warranty is up you're only covered for E74 and RROD fixes for a further 2 years.

Dont compare the 360's reliability to that of the PS3. Simply put there is no comparison and I should know having gone through 2 360's. The 360 was poorly designed and had to go through several revisions before heat output and noise were reduced and even then there are still a huge number of 3 red light incidents and 1 red light incidents. Sony's YLOD has affected less then around 2% of all PS3's globally and 80% of those were launch 60GB units.

All right lads, calm da funk down, he's trying something different. YLOD seems to be becoming a bigger issue, certainly with the Original 60Gb models, so much so, I fear updating my 60Gb machine.

As for extended warranties, dont bring that up saying it's his fault for not taking it out. That is a cop out, it's an insurance policy, not an extended warranty, cause your paying up front for what if's.

Now the S.D.A can stand down. It's time to leave all that crap behind now people, lets all live and let live, each to their own, you pays your money and takes your choice. We are all very lucky to be able to game on the current gen machines.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah Rad, bought it bundled, TBH I'd never even heard of the YLOD until that watchdog program,It's always been well ventilated and kept clean.
So is it worth selling off the dead PS3 on fleabay? if so how do i take my PSN details off the HD?
Cheers

Does YLOD machines allow you boot up or just have the YLOD on them?

If it doesnt let you boot up, I think you would have to remove the HDD, and then put it back in, as the machine always reformats any HDD you put in.

I've had a fair few problems with PS3's myself, all with the launch 60 gig ones (and refurbs). I've had the yellow light of death twice I think, a disc drive failure where discs would just not be read and a random HDD screw up partly caused by me turning my PS3 off in the normal safe way while downloading the mag beta. I could have pressed O to cancel the download but I just thought holding the PS button and hitting 'turn off system' would do that all for me.. instead it screwed up and the HDD was fooked so whenever I turned the system back on I got an error code, a google search told me was a HDD failure. It's not as bad as when I had a 360 because that was breaking down on me every 6 months or so but I've not had a flawless experience with either console.

If you can't boot the system up to remove your details and what Holio suggested doesn't work then I'm lost what to suggest. I wouldn't want to sell it on ebay in case someone fixes it and then gains access to your PSN and everything on your account.

Some gaming news

Today, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be treated to an automatic demo of Kane & Lynch 2.

It's what's known as a "push demo", which means your PlayStation 3 will download the sampler either while you're away at work or asleep.

If you're not a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you'll have to wait until Wednesday to try the demo.

It allows you to convert your computer video files (like avi, divx, mpeg, etc.) into the specific video formats that are playable on the PlayStation 3.

I'm sure it's an OK converter, but you do not need to convert. The formats they've quoted above play on the PS3 fine without conversion (i.e. avi, divx, mp4, mpeg, m2ts). Even directly copying .VOB files from a DVD will work on the PS3 without the need to convert.

It's only HD files that carry the .mkv container that really need a conversion or files that are larger than 4GB that will not fit on FAT32 as a single file. In which case MKV2VOB is the best for the PC http://www.videohelp.com/tools/mkv2vob or Handbrake for the Mac http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php - both are free.

Think my PS3 is fucked, downloaded the Kayne and Lynch demo and that froze when I played it and now my other game on the HD wont load. First time I've had the piece of crap on for ages too.

Cheers for that MJ, I have never tried to do it yet so I never knew...

He wants to know if it will play his Japanese porn collection.
