Sony PlayStation 3

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Unless you get it extra cheap eh Flawl3ss? ;)

Building an infrastructure to even equal the LIVE service is no easy feat. Bear in mind that Microsoft have almost limitless Server resources having developed server software themselves.

XBox Live took years to get right (there are still some minor flaws). Adonis rightly questions whether Sony will get it right first time - let alone being a LIVE killer.

The price is gonna be soo important. Bear in mind that the 360 will be reduced in price by the time the PS3 comes out. For the Sony to justify that sorta price, the graphics have to be shockingly amazing - i.e. like the Killzone demo sort amazing. I'll say it again, but I doubt the game producers will put the effort to release two separate types of games for the 360 and PS3. They'll likely be the sort of difference between the PS2 and original XBox is right now. Will people pay the price difference for that? I doubt it...

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Like I said before, the graphical difference wont be very different between the consoles. But the PS3 will be able to handle more on the screen at once. So if you played a racing game, the PS3 version might be able to handle 30 cars racing at one time while the X360 might only have 20. The graphics would still look the same though.

Well thats what those guys with the dev kit say anyway.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

So apart from potentially dishing out Movies and Music, they are basically copying the entire Xbox Live service?! What a shocker!

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

lol thats $ony for ya, admitting that MS has something decent and deciding to copy it.

Well I think the biggest shock is that they decided to do SOMETHING. Its obvious MS has something amazing with Live. And its the one thing that the 360 has over the PS3 thats clear to see.

but heres some more promising news from www.computerandvideogames.com

PS3 E3 SECRETS UNVEILED! PLUS PS HUB UPDATE!

Exclusive: One major PS3 monster confirmed for E3, PS3 God of War goodness and flagship title encounters Resistance!

11:01 You'll probably already have read yesterday's story about the proposed PlayStation HUB, the new codename for Sony's planned PlayStation online service for the PS3.
It was a great scoop from our friends over at Next-Gen.biz and immediately sent our news antennae into overload as we digested details on what Sony had in store for its PS3 and PSP online service - you can find out the full details by hitting the link above.

Subsequent to this report, we spread our tendrils across the world wide web to track down further details on the service. Speaking on conditions of strict anonymity, one of our own ultra secret and highly reliable sources informed CVG that HUB details were being kept firmly under lock and key for the moment and that, while the HUB moniker is one of the favoured names, it's still hasn't been finalised and is just one of several proposed titles being considered.

However, CVG's very own deep throat went on to reveal further hot info on PlayStation 3 titles that will be actually be there and in the flesh at this year's E3, with an 'absolutely gorgeous looking' SOCOM 4 confirmed for the show and likely to be a PS3 launch title.
You want more PS3 loving? Well, you'll get it in the form of a newly confirmed PS3 God of War title, which we have to say has us salivating in utter delight because its PS2 debut was absolutely cracking - we can't wait to swing Kratos' chains in anger all over again on Sony's next-gen machine. God of War PS3 may not actually make it to E3, but is apparently well into development; and interestingly, both it and SOCOM 4 will also be appearing on PS2, underlining Sony's commitment to its favoured current-gen son for the next few years.

Finally, we've got one last nugget of PS3 goodness to share with you, as we can exclusively reveal that Ratchet and Clank developer Insomiac's amazing looking PS3 shooter I-8 - and one of Sony's biggest PS3 titles - has been renamed. Prepare to meet ....(sound of drum roll) Resistance.

More exclusive PS3 goodness on CVG soon.

Socom 4 will be a pivitol title for Sonys new online service so expect that to be awesome. But im really looking forward to God of War 2. The first was stunning, bring on the second in nextgen graphics! :)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Apparently Retail partners were informed by Sony of the release schedule for the PS3 last week, not surprisingly this information has been leaked:

16th September 2006 - Japan
21st September 2006 - US
March 2007 - Europe (Date to be confirmed at E3).

So it looks as though the Europeans will be waiting once again.

Did you expect anything else???

I'd be amazed if there as only a 5 day difference between the Jap and US launches.

Hang on, you're contradicting yourself there, because you're obviously saying PS3 can handle far more polygons.

yeh I agree. the dates dont look that accurate. tbh imo I reckon it'll be out in the US for Sept, but I still have a feeling Japan will get it late spring/early summer.

Guess we'll just have to wait for E3.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

You know, it could be a surprise release completely. Maybe at the E3, they'll probably announce that it'll be released the next day ;)

Apple has been doing it recently - giving false information to the media and keeping information tight. Then, out of the blue, they release long awaited items :eh:

I highly doubt it though

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

And we have to wait a year to get it.... :( nooooo!!

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

well even though theres nothing we havent seen before ONE thing is sort of interesting. In one of the pics you can see the PS3 controller...its exactly the same as the one shown at E3.

Which means for now Sony have no plans to change it. There were rumours about Sony wanting to change it seeing as it didnt make an appearence at CES. Guess not.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Sony have shown no updates since last E3, the same goes for game trailers. I can't be arsed with following these shows anymore. I'll wait til E3.

Well the PS3 CAN handle more polygons as the tech demos showed.
I'm just saying that although it can, the playable games wont be like that and will probably be something similar to X360 graphics but with more happening on the screen.

More happening on the screen = More polygons

Which is why I said the PS3 CAN produce better graphics. Did you even read?
I'm saying that even though it can, games wont use all that potential. Just cuz it CAN, it doesnt mean it could run as smoothly as expected. Videos are much easier to make than a playable game. Once things like AI and extra background details kick in, a lot of the consoles power gets used up there alone.
Which is why its easier for the PS3 to have more happening on the screen using X360 graphics than making games that look even better than that, which btw isnt as important since the X360 graphics are amazing anyway.

But this doesnt mean games wont look better on the PS3 when the console comes close to being replaced by the next generation.

A Jeff Buckley fan in the house!

Anyway, I think the PS3 looks HORRIBLE! Very dissapointed. :(

Just the design mate - I don't know much about the specs.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

A third of that price comes from the BluRay drive and there are rumours going around that the PS3's drive will be cheaper. Cuz apparently, the processor of the console will be doing most of the work that the drive normally does inside those BluRay Recorders that you use to watch movies.

So taking that into account, the price would drop to around $700 which is about £500. Plus Sony know their costs are gonna drop so they might sell their console at a loss like how Microsoft are doing. The X360 costs £410 to produce but sell at £280.

So I'm guessing the PS3 should sell for about £340 on release which is more than the X360 but IMO, a reasonable price too.

Sony lose money on this console, but ins't a problem, just need sell games, pad, Hard drive, cable etc.. (i speak only about Sony video game)

costs $1000 i think

All console manufacturers lose money on hardware, however the amount Sony may potentially lose is staggering and could literally cripple the company if it all goes pear shaped. I agree that the software and accessories will help gain more revenue but it would have to be ALOT of each in order to turn profit.
