How many of you will care about the power of the console when playing the likes of MGS4, Devil May Cry 4, Tekken 6, or any other Sony game that you once loved on the PS2?

True, PS2 was vastly inferior to Xbox in terms of hardware. But if I didn't get one I'd have missed out on MGS2, MGS3, DMC, DMC3, God of War, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari Damacy, Ikomi, FFX, FFXII, Virtua Fighter 4 and so many more!

What would I have missed if I hadn't have bought an Xbox?

Halo 2 and Ninja Gaiden, that's it!

OMG, you missed PES1,2 and 3!!!

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Its all about running PES/WE with me if PS3 runs them better than the 360 I'll have to get one....

I like Tekken like the next man but Soul caliber/DOA will surfice.
Missing out on the likes of Shadow of Collosus or Gods of War, is the same as missing out on Halo1/2....but could be a reason to splash the cash!

The ps3 is going to be a lot more cash than the 360 so I hope anyone waiting for one is collecting the pennies!

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Here in the West, we don't need to be worrying about seeing a PS3 this year (Spring 07 for Europe) so who knows what to expect. Nobody knows for certain whether game clips are just FMV or even if the hardware is 100% finalized yet so any comparisons with the 360 are a waste of time at this point.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

But then your just guessing that Europe will get it spring 07...you have no proof. I think it will come this year cos Sony are being very quiet and keeping things under wraps for a reason. Maybe they'll still do a worldwide release, they're controlling the media so no one knows anything for sure yet though. So maybe your right....but I hope your wrong... ;)

Check this out, Graphics in Full HD? nah I dont think so... and graphics as good as that Killzone screen we saw? again no way....

Yeh Ive read this report, and in all honesty Im not convinced. Mainly because the report constantly contradicts itself.

Im not gonna go into it, but a quick example is:

kikizo said:
Does PS3 really look like the Killzone trailer? No way. Does it look like Metal Gear Solid 4? Sure, near enough, although now that it's on near-final hardware, things just need a little polishing to look as complete as what was shown by Kojima-san in September.

So it doesnt look like killzone, but does look like MGS4? Thats not a bad thing for first wave games! But wait they say its on near-final hardware...correct?

What we played was still extremely early, but we've been able to build a healthier picture of things. Another point of reference is the aforementioned Fifth Phantom Saga realtime demo from TGS, which we daresay is a slightly more honest representation of today's exact PS3 graphics status, and closer to current playable content than anything fuelling PS3's notoriety since E3 last year.

ok, so how many contradictions do you want?

First its near-finished, then its very early. First it looks as good as MGS4, but then it looks like Fifth Phantom Saga.

Whats crazy is that every new paragraph seems to have a different view. At the moment this report has got a lot of 360 owners talking. Not sure why, this report isnt exactly that big that sites like gamespot or ign have even bothered to confirm. Also it hardly makes the PS3 look rubbish.

The main reason though (apart from the obvious BS coming from it) why I dont believe it is because again it contradicts everything developers have been saying regarding the PS3. Again dont wanna write an essay, but games like Heavenly Sword supports 1080p fully.

But hey, if somehow its true then I certainly dont mind playing MGS4-graphics on launch day ;)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

I hope for everyones Gaming Sake that this PS3 delivers, I loved PS2 to pieces and thought it was brilliant when it first came out even though they didnt fully deliver what they said they were going to (lack of online play and graphics were NOT up to scratch) I hope PS3 is good from the off and that it doesnt cost too much as well.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Well if its anything like what they say its like, I'll take one no matter what the price is.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Even if its like £400+ ? I sure as hell wouldnt, the £209 I paid for my 360 and then the £69 I paid for the Hard Drive was about as much as id be prepared to pay.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Surely if it's £400+ they'll be alienating too many of their players? It's a pretty even split between gamers under 16 and gamers under 30-odd, or whatever it is. So half their audience will never be able to afford one in a million years. Surely they've got more sense than that...?

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

Jack Bauer, the thing is mate Blu-Ray Drives on their own are over £250 so how are they going to get around that? by taking a huge loss on every console they sell?

DJ

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

yeah ok but thats still not going to bring the cost down that much JayM I very much doubt. we will be looking at a launch price of about £350 onwards I reckon, A bit like the Original Xbox when that first came out.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

From memory the PS2 was £300 for the basic, bare-bones system at launch, and they never said "It will be expensive" with that beforehand. It won't be under £300 that's for sure, I'd guess anywhere from £300-£400 for the machine on it's own.

They'll initially make a loss on every console sold anyway, they always do it's the games they make their wad on.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread

In the 1st link it says something with the dates being 2006-03-01 and 2006-04-30. Actually looking thru the site it seems to be an invetation/competition with the dates being the entry time. The use of photoshop/max/maya/c++ ect, size (100mb), zipped. Guess its some type of competition related to the ps3, mayby a online game to play in some type of lounge like xboxlive. Also it seems to state the process of entry ( prototyp/beta/japfinal i guess)

I would guess its some type of lobby gaming feature by looking at the info.

I'd gladly pay £500. But thats the most. ;)

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

I guarentee the games will be more expensive too, simply because of Blu-Ray. £500 for just the console and no games?? No thank you.

Thats just what I'm willing to pay. Theres no way it will cost that much.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

We will see wont we :) aparently its Launching in September in Japan...

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Man...thats missions ahead(!). Equate that to Europe means that we'll probably see it (late?) next year.

The way I look at it, either Sony are gonna be too late for this next gen battle or they are getting a major head start on the next next gen scene. By then, of course, I expect to see graphics better than the infamous Killzone demo ;).

I was actually under the impression that there was gonna be a 6 month gap. Surely, sometime before then, there will be a killer app on the 360? :eh:

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

to be honest I think its Sony be very arrogant.

If the 360 was a threat to them Im sure they would do everything in their power to get it out early. And thats the truth.

Whether they are right is another matter.

One things for sure, if PS3 comes out in September in Japan/US Im defo gonna grab a 360. Ive being thinking about it loads but would make a firm decision after the next batch of games come out. Funk that, Im just gonna grab one when TopSpin 2 comes out now.

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

fight later, news now.

PS3 Live-killer titled PlayStation HUB, PS3 in September

Next Generation has the scoop on Sony's upcoming Xbox Live-killer. What you need to know:

* The service will be called "PlayStation HUB" and it will support "chat, downloadable demos, independent games and online play."
* It will also serve the PSP. Will the seldom utilized infrastructure mode now be called PlayStation HUB mode?
* Good things don't come cheap. The service will be a "subscriber service," similar to Live now. No more free Socom guys. No word on what the details of the subscription will be, but expect equal to or less than Live.
* Sir Howard Stringer, Sony's big boss man, wants the service to dish out media content, like movies and music, positioning the service as an alternative to Apple's wildly popular iTunes store.

Looks like the ambitious plans for a Live-killer may be coming to fruition. There will be many a surprised gamer--and more than a couple surprised suits in Redmond--if Sony manages to pull this off. There is one more thing that Next Gen managed to dig up from their "well-placed industry sources": namely, the anticipated console launch date!

The early word is that the system will see a near-simultaneous launch in both Japan and North America; September 16th in Japan and September 21st in North America. This date is, of course, subject to change, but an earlier fall launch may help them work out any manufacturing kinks several months before the vital holiday buying season.

It is not clear if the HUB service will be Live (pun alert!) when the system launches in September. Here's hoping!

Official Sony specs: PS3 HDD sold separately

Sony specs page with PS3 HDD listed as 'sold separately'
On a spec sheet hosted on the official PlayStation Global site, the PS3's various storage media--including the HDD and a few other memory formats--are said to be "sold separately," which might lead one to understandably assume that the PS3's hard drive won't come bundled with the system (at least, not with a cheap package for the platform).

Drag the right-hand arrows to navigate the listing. Halfway down the Flash-animated page for the upcoming platform is a line stating: "Storage / HDD: Detachable 2.5" HDD slot x 1," which won't raise many eyebrows. It's when you scroll down to the bottom of the page that that first starry footnote really messes with our convergence dreams (or nightmares).

Okay, we all know that the PS3 will have "a 2.5-inch hard drive (i.e. laptop hard drive) attachment." The $500 question--give or take a few Franklins--is whether that hard drive will come bundled with every system or just the pricier models. Sure, a comprehensive web page could be mistaken, but why state it so clearly? More to come at GDC/E3, of course.

september for North America(:D)/Japan. no europe? also no HDD....this is still better than no news though....

Re: PlayStation 3 - Official Thread "PlayStation HUB - Online service"

Cheers for the news!

Well like I said if Sony do anything ner to what Microsoft have done with Live then it could be total domination for the PS3.

But I doubt it will be as good seeing as its pretty much their first attempt at it.
