Sony PlayStation 3

Nice update, is anyone else surprised that this came from the BBC of all places?
 
I know that Sony tech guys are camped out at Rockstar 24/7 to help them get over any issue they are having with PS3 development. That could be interpreted as Sony taking R* under their. If Sony were to buy our R* you can put money on MS counter bidding, and we all know how much cash MS has.
 
I can't see a company as big as R* being bought out. MS have all this money why don't they create more studios?

Because they have to factor the return on investment. It is not a healthy business model to just buy companies left right and centre. The relationship they have with Bizarre Creations is a good one as they publish PGR exclusively for the Xbox but don't have the overhead of running the studio. On the other hand I would question whether it was smart to pay $300m for Rare, that at the moment doesn't seem to have been a smart move.

What was the last game that Rare made?
 
How much would R* cost if they paid $300m for Rare?
 
They paid $250 million, which was well above what it was worth, especially considering there are no original members of the Rare as was there now. Viva Pinata was the last game for the 360 by Rare, unless you count Jet Pack Refuelled on XBLA. They did publish Diddy Kong Racing on the DS, but it was luke warmed received in the press at best.

R* has a shit load of IP's, all pretty solid atm, but how much Take2 have a hold over them could be the key, you may have to buy Take2's publishing rights from them and then buy the studio.
 
Just received my copy of everybodys golf 5 from japan.

It is awesome. Looks fantastic is really really fun and has online. Doesnt get much better if you like the series.
 
Exactly LJ there are methods of compression which dont lose you much noticeable sound quality :) that could easily be chopped down a fair few GB's....
 
just wondering if anyone has used simplygames.com or swallowgames.com. wanna order a ps3 without any worry. cheers
 
Plus they do the single pad console for 330. HMV have a decent deal on atm too, esp if you fancy Motorstorm and Resistance (or F1), with an extra pad, Casino Royale and Black Hawk Down on Blu Ray for what was the original launch price of 425.

Not bad at all. You get quite a bit for your money. When I bought mine from the states I paid about $600 for the machine and then another $150 got me 2 games plus an expensive HDMI cable. :) The only downsides are the fact I cant play UK PAL PS1 or PS2 games on it nor Region 2 Blu Ray Movie Discs.
 
cool. was gonna buy from there originally. its only cause they say the first order has to be sent to the cc address and my gf is buying it for me for my birthday. just gonna have to order something else 1st so i can get it sent to my house. dont wanna take the chance of one of her brothers intercepting the package.
 
i've had to put up with so much of her moaning and bitching recently, as well as making sure she has multiples. all just in case it jepordised the ps3, cant wait till it arrives then i can start laying the smackdown ignoring her while playing computer, and using sex as a weapon again. happy days lol

......gotta be better then getting earache and no ps3? just spoke to her on the phone, she's coming round 2morrow so im gonna put in the order then. need some games though, im thinking NBA2k7, Rainbow Six, and maybe Ninja Gaiden? I was gonna get virtua tennis bout i heard is not all that good. basically just wanna kill time b4 Pro.
 
Who told you Virtua Tennis isnt all that good? Shoot them! Except for the lack of online play the game is excellent. It looks nice in HD and plays a good Arcade Game of Tennis... what more could you ask for.. :)

The PlayStation Store has finally been updated for this Thursday's refresh, bringing a slew of new content to PLAYSTATION 3 owners. Demos for EA's NCAA Football 08 (728 MB) and Codemasters DiRT (553 MB) are up now and ready to download. New game videos include the new animated episode and a second "making of" clip for Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword, as well as new trailers for Folklore and Timeshift.

New movie trailers for Pixar's WALL-E, The Brothers of Solomon and The Lives of Others join new PS3 wallpapers for Blast Factor: Advanced Research and, again, Heavenly Sword. This update is so solid it makes me want to do our secret, multi-step handshake—you know, the one that ends with us doing a little hip bump and double finger gun snap-point at eachother?
 
US PlayStation store ONLY for this updated content. It isnt on the UK one yet.. For Fuck Sake SONY!!
