PES2008 PS2 version is the lost game / video thread

I'm playing on the hardest level. For example, if the goalkeeper does not run towards me, the opponent defender will take the ball from me anyway. However, even a non-dangerous position can be a goal because the goalkeeper is running. I mostly play classic laziale. I reduced player speeds and passing speeds for better and more difficult gameplay. In addition, I increased mentality and teamwork.

I was just looking at some of my highlights from ML on youtube and yes the goalkeeper does come out when he needs to and sometimes I score sometimes I don’t. But yes he comes out when i expect him to come out. i don’t see the non-dangerous times when he comes out like you mentioned. But then again I only play with my option file. Maybe it is different on Laziele’s one.

Yes, it can. Do you think if I increase the defense score of the goalkeepers, will the chance of success against forwards running in 1-1 positions increase?

I was just checking the guide and i can only see 1 on 1 special ability making goalkeepers better. I thought that the Aggression stat might affect it but i don’t think it does.

I think it is a case of trial and error, maybe increase Response too.

It’s funny how I don’t find it an issue at all. Do you have any videos to show this happening?

That would be good if you can. It’s funny because I find this game so challenging but some say it is too easy it dribble past players and score. I guess we all play differently. :D
 
Artificial intelligence in PES 2008 is absolutely perfect. I even asked myself why pes 6 is so popular when there is pes 2008.I was surprised when the number of goals I dribble passed at the goalkeeper increased. Even though it is old and has many shortcomings in the player ratings and master league, my GOAT will always be WE7.

If the goalkeeper did not run so fast at the 50th second, the opponent stopper would have already taken the ball or disturbed it. The goalkeeper does not make a balanced run.

But that game is human vs human, my brother brought the GK out ;)
 
@geeeeee @Xkapt I have to agree on the 'keepers in PES 2008. Good game but the 'keepers are often awful. Way too many rebound goals and fluffed saves, as seen in Geeeeee's latest vid.

Sorry I have to completely disagree with you there. I think they are very realistic, yes they make mistakes (depending on stats) but they are also very good. Every time the keeper makes a good save I always think about the criticism that they get, but admittedly I used to think the same years ago when the game first came out that was why I stayed with PES5 for so long.

It could be though because of the stat adjustments that I make to slow it down. Maybe it makes it easier for the keepers to save shots. As I have mentioned before if it was not for the slower paced gameplay after my stat adjustments, I would not even play the game because at vanilla it is too super duper fast and unrealistic. ;)

Hello Group! Happy New Year to everyone!
I leave you my last adventure in Pes 2008 with a Classic Eurocup that I have enjoyed very much.
At the beginning of the video you can see how hard it was to get past the group stage, with two defeats against Germany and Poland, and in the third match I was able to qualify thanks to goal difference.
In the quarter-finals I crushed Italy 5-0 and what happened next you can see in the video.

Classic Laziale has very high stats in general, most of them I got from pesmitidelcalcio, personally I got used to playing with that pace and demand, but I understand that I can't please everyone.
The issue of goalkeepers' rebounds is annoying, but what irritates me more is the feeling that the game will score a goal from a corner whenever it feels like it.
 
I have not finished it completely as some teams still need kits and faces edited but since the work is on hold and I don't know when I continue to edit it, I shared the current version of my option file that has all teams from World and European Cup tournaments between 1982 and 2000 as well as a few bonus teams like Netherlands 1982, Yugoslavia and Italy 1992, Ghana 1994 and others. 1982 and 1984 are edited 100 % including player appearances. Kits should be finished for all except about half of WC 1998 and some bonus teams. Player appearances in many teams still need to be done. I copied many player appearances from Laziale classic OF as they are very well made.

I'm not sure about the distinction between strong and weak teams either. For example, Schalke's hexagon is bigger than most teams. Most teams have the same hexagon.
 
Hexagon teams get higher when only one player is a beast. Even if the rest of the team is average or bad.
A bigger Hexa doesn't means that on a full season, the team is stronger.

For example you have 4 beast in Speed on one team : if you keep the best Speedster and remove the 3 others the Hexagon will not change.
 
I personally feel that if both games are on “top player” then winning eleven 2008 is easier.
I feel if PES2008 is on “top player” and WE2008 is on “superstar” they are the same level of difficulty.

So in reality it’s just that WE2008 has one lower level of easiness. Since PES 2008 doesn’t have the option for “superstar”

To me, 6th Star difficulty in WE 2008 is more easy than PES 2008 max level.
And - again to me - it's really not a placebo effect. The score tables speak for themselves (with same teams, ...).

That could be coincidence though. There's no possible way any human being can play at exactly the same level having the exact level of reflexes and level of thinking for every single match they play. So it's difficult to gage. It may have felt easier because the scripting was set that that way when you start a match. If you played the same team using the same team, same starting lineup, same formation etc 100 times you wouldn't get the same outcome every time. Variables like scripting, how the CPU lines up, what players they start with, what form they're in, how attacking or defensive they are for that particular game all play a role.
I mean there was a point where you were adamant WE2008 was the superior game too at one point. Personally I've noticed that one day I think a certain version of PES/WE is amazing then after burn out I think it's not as good as another version. Though I think we can agree that both WE2008 and PES2008 on PS2 are extremely fun games and that's all that really matters! 😄
 
Yes, that's true, I've not tested it scientifically ahah. And indeed, it's just a personal feeling.

I really think both are great game and the fact that PES 2008 is more difficult compared to WE 2008 does not make it a superior game. At least in my humble opinion.

Overall I still prefer WE 2008 which is for me the best PES experience on PS2. Just above JL 2008. The lack of national teams is just too important for me.

I've not tested JL 2009 which apparently is also awesome.

About difficulty there's many factor, the way you play, the speed toned down which gives more time to do everything etc.

I also agree that the lack of National teams is the only big missing thing on JLWE2008, but otherwise it's probably the best gameplay of the 3 versions regarding balance/AI etc. and for Master League the lack of NT isn't to me an issue.

But i need both version personally for the best experience as i play all modes in game, even a Konami league with only Nations haha. Just the World Tour i didn't tried (on both version).
If you like NT @Juventino32 : you probably noticed there's an issue about unplayable nations : they're not having real names and they are too present on every nations cup. It's annoying, but i found a way to replace the fake names, even appearance, of those players.

I'm finishing working on my PES 2021 stuffs, i took note for editing later but it's taking some time, then i will focus on both PES 5 (as i prepare a PS2 patch with *crossing fingers" a better market value system as i understood how to change it / For any players even Others C ;) + in the same time checking all real NT players names for WE2008 : i already started by the hardest part, Asian NT.

This will be followed by an excel file with every players fake to real names and information as i need to change some errors of height, weight, good foot.
I think to do it in update part for not making wait people too much, like 1st the WC 2008 teams real name + Europe (there's much more teams than the rest) , then America and Africa and finally Asia (as there's also a lot of NT and they're harder to correct).

To found players real counterpart i'm very used too as i did it for every version since PES 3 to 2021 so...

About all PES are fun, personnally i tried JL2009 and found it as a step back to PES 6 : too easy to dribble, shoot, pass and faster, i don't like the feeling. WE2010 Aoki and JLWE2010 are way better... But like you said it's because we all knows very well every games, some people due to the same animations will think that it's the same lol.

Personnally if i have to chose some version and not playing the rest anymore i would choose the best of really different gameplay : i JLWE2008, WE2008, PES5 but i love WE9 too, WE7I (but i would take WE8 stats on it) and WE5FE as it's the more chessmaster old school version of all, i love it.
And if i still got place on my PS2 suitcase i would add PES 2014 as it's also a pretty different version to play than others mentionned.

I can only speak for the European version as that is the one that I play.

In ML some players appear with 5000 ML wages regardless of how rubbish they are. When I first started editing 2008 I thought a great idea would be creating Messi, Ronaldo etc over those ‘5000‘ players. But for some reason their wages would go really low. After experimenting I worked out that giving the ‘5000’ players about 5 or 6 skills would make their wage lower. That was why Messi and Ronaldo’s went low because they had all the special skills.

On one of my option files that was what I did, in order to use the ‘5000’ players I gave them 5 or 6 skills to keep their value low. But then it didn't make sense to have an average defender have skills like Middle Shooting, 1-Touch Pass etc as it would make them better in the game than they actually were.

(I hope all this makes sense because I am getting lost in what I am trying to say now) :LOL:

Eventually I decided to make a note of all the ‘5000’ player ID’s and decided not to use them in my ML, but to keep them as their default player. At default they stay at a normal value. Having said that, having played a few seasons in ML you do still get the odd one show up. But I just have to look past it now.

Regarding the Other Leagues C that @Juventino32 mentioned, I don’t use them in my option files anymore.

Regarding Japanese and South Korean players, in order to give them realistic values, I give them all ‘No Nationality’ for their Nationality, for some reason it fixes that bug. :)

Also, regarding the 0 wage bug, I think it fixes itself after 1 season although I could be wrong. It has not really affected me in ML. What does happen to begin with, when you get an offer for one of your players for the first time, they offer you 0 money. But after refusing, the next offer you get (whether it be that window or another one) is back to normal offers.

There are some bugs but I look over them because the gameplay is the best for me. But, as I said before, I only love the game with my adjustments otherwise it would be too fast for me and unrealistically arcadey. ;)

@Juventino32 I wonder if creating players over Other Leagues C using the actual in game editor would stop the bugs mentioned. I remember one PES, when you created a new player it would tell you his ML value. Maybe that was PES5 not 2008.

I have 5000 funds at the start of the season, but the team salary is 21k, if I remember correctly the salary is too high compared to older PES titles.

Is this also some kind of a salary bug?

Do you play with Winning Eleven 2008 then ?
Would it be possible to show the list of players from your team with their salary ?
 
Sometimes it's practically impossible, starting on second division with a Barça level club, to reach the funds necessary.
You got to place your team in D1 and update starting points to 10000 or 15000.
