PES2008 PS2 version is the lost game / video thread

Last match of the master league that I started this weekend with Seattle Sounders. They had already achieved promotion but needed a victory to be champions of the 2nd division.

But isn't that a bit like real life football especially if your team is the underdog. It is a good feeling when you hold on for that needed victory.

The tips in this link is very helpful.

Yes, useful tips. I came to some of them independently, focusing on the laws of the game of football.

For example, it is obvious that playing with default players will be very difficult, so I chose the 4-2-3-1 game scheme with a defensive strategy.

But as I already mentioned, the defensive strategy did not save us from a bunch of dangerous moments near our goal. This only confirms the logic of the game of football, that the tactics and strategy of the game are determined by the skill of the performers.

In the end, the season ended in eighth place with 1 win, 3 draws and 10 losses - 3 goals scored and 31 conceded! :)

Just in the last game, we lost 2-5.

By the way, that only victory happened in the match against AIK, with whom we played 0-0 in the first round. But look at the match statistics. We were so lucky to win thanks to Ochoa, whom I added at the beginning of the ML. As a result, he became the MVP of the match. It's great!

What's confusing is that the opponents, despite the fact that they are not much ahead of us in terms of quality of performers, play such a pressing, exhausting football without consequences for themselves. That is, they do not get exhausted and the attributes of the AI players are ignored. They act almost flawlessly throughout the match without losing strength. This brings me back to the idea of the logic of the game of football. It seems that logic only works for the player :)

I didnt play pes 2008 USA version, but it could be that it has mucher harder AI then in Europe version. :THINK:Interesting.
The European version was released in the fall of 2007, and the American version in the spring of 2008, almost half a year later. Maybe they improved something, maybe not. This is just a guess.

Maybe there is no difference between them, but it all leads to the fact that I personally just play worse than other experienced players :)

Its like any PES. You put the time in, you improve. I'm currently playing a version of WE that I've never played before and quite frankly, my shooting on this particular version isn't too great yet in PES2008 my shooting and overall play Id consider pretty good. Just got to get used to what version you play and things become second nature.

Another 2 matches…

Match 80. Le Havre v Finland strangely looking at the kit selection screen Finland seem to be playing in the kit of invisibility :D

Match 81. Monaco v Brazil, not sure how the score ended like it did…

I played some more matches with my bro in our cup the other day.

So time to start uploading them. I have decided to upload the whole matches simply because it is quicker then editing the videos for the highlights and I need to use my time to create my new option file. :D

Here is Match no. 82 Benfica (me) v Southampton (bro), will Southampton put their league form behind them?

It's the opposite to me, i played principally the PES 2008 US version. As i edited players on Others C and players are 24 or 26 by teams instead of 32.

Now regarding WE2008 and PES2008 difficulty (als JLWE2008), speed is something that could influe on it :
In my case i found PES 2008 too fast so i got harder to dribble or do quick stuffs no time to think, while in JLWE2008 (slower for sure) and a bit lesser WE2008 i feel more free to do what and when i want. But the AI is replacing better on JL2008 so it remains the same regarding final score.

As you talked about it, the hardest WE/PES is WE9 without contest, the defense is super solid (physically), the approach is very defensive so it's pretty hard to dribble somoene as you always got one player on your back and another just behind waiting for your to try to overlap the first defender
.
I noticed than old number 9 where finally effective as i could'n't for example score that much with Trezeguet on any PES.
As they got a high Reaction, positionning (especially) and shoot precision, and how the game is configured they are/were finally effective if you're waiting for him to be close to the goal, pass and shoot directly or with a small control. I couldn't do it on PES 1 to PES4 or PES6, but on WE9 and PES5 i never scored that much with them.

.... And fortunately i got the same result on PES 2008. But you have to be quick and leave the post striker doing his positionning job, avoiding to make decisive passes with them.

Yes it was the case before and also when you re-start to play those PS2 retro versions.

Now personnally i can swith from every PS2 version without issues, as i'm used to what's in every core game engine.
With the exception of WE8LE : no idea why but i got hard to move on, dribble and construct on that version. When i play i looks like your random friend trying to advance on the pitch at all cost lol.

I had a problem with my recorder while recording while playing my bro. it crashed like some kind of power surge.

So Match 84 between AEK Athens and Osasuna did not record at all. It finished 1-0 to Athens with Ponce scoring an 88th minute winner!

The next match, Match 85 between Austria (bro) and Aston Villa (me), is when the actual crash happened. So basically it failed to record the match before and some of the first half of this match, which is shame because this was a classic again. I have included some of the first half highlights to make up for some of the match that is missing. ;)

what is so good about this game ? never playyed it

It's not like next gen PES 2008 at all. It's like a better version of PES 6.

Yep @vegasheat if you look at the first post on this thread you will see why it is so good. Just saves me boring everyone by repeating myself :D

It’s just my personal opinion, but I didn't like PES6 at all compared to PES5. ;)

Exactly. The only thing which is the same as PES 6 is the movement, no step on the side doing ➡️⬇️ and the def more AI based but less physical.

If you know what i mean about the step-side, on PES4-6-2008 you can do it with R2 + ➡️⬇️ (more logic in my opinion) but on PES5 it's automatic : for the way i play that game, it's a game changer ball on feet. Not a game breaker through. At least on my case as it happens pretty often when i use is or not.

And PES5 era of games 05-06 is the only one with that system, i don't hate it but you can change naturally your position from 90 degree naturally (there's a manip of course to do it on PES5). Dribbling is on of the 3 most recurent stuff you do in a football game with passing and defending so...

PES4 and WE8LE are basic/natural PES and they're closer to PES6. So on PES 2008. But commands-inputs is a way to play but not the core gameplay mecanics balance.
WE8, PES4 and so PES2008 got similar command to PES6. But they're all different even if i found them closer to PES6 than any 2008 version. Also PES 2008 was outshined in terms of buzz by his next-gen counterpart and not tested one or two months like the previous iteration, but on magazine there was only like one page about the old-gen version... It's legit to be objective.

Just to say that PES 2008 got the same commands, and of course it's the same game with the overall same PES graphisms since 4 PES (4,5,6,2008) and added animations are too subtiles to be directly notified.
I just played on the morning the 2, no joke, and it's really two very different approach and once is balanced with a more basic AI while the other is too agile and offensive with tons of counters. PES 5 isn't slow btw. It's just harder to express a player speed due to the tough semi-automatic defense.

About PES 5 it's not at all a hard critic but a difference, a statement : not a flaw.
I love the concept to force us to handle the pressing a bit less agressively :not leaving pushed X and square all the time without repercussion, but you'll need tempers it for avoiding fault and others situations when your week player in defense pass through the focused opponent.

Man, tried this game for the first time and something just clicks with it. I am using an emulator. For those that do the same, do you stick with original PAL 50HZ or bump it to NTSC to 60HZ and gameplay seems a lot faster

A small preview of the new Classic Laziale 4.0 is this great match between Maradona's Napoli vs. Classic Stuttgart, where I scored one of the best goals I've ever scored in the game.

That is such an excellent goal! Well done! :APPLAUD:

Don't it just feel so good when you score a good goal? That is what is still so good about the old games, even just scoring a normal goal feels good, but a good goal feels better :D

Which is more than I can say about this next game in the Lews All Comers Cup....

Match 86. Salernitana (me) v Bulgaria (bro)
