PES 2019 Discussion Thread (PS4, XB1)

my first game in ML and the AI gets a RED CARD!!! unreal!
As there are more fouls now the AI collects plenty... :)
Had em get 2 yellows and send off. Straight red from a tackle from behind. Lots of fun.

Had a 4 hour Cowboy session and now I’m back for PES. DFB Pokal atmosphere coming up... getting myself in the mood! :D

My issues with this game remain the same, the gameplay is superb. But how do I keep a master league interesting?

I keep finding myself longing for that fifa presentation, off the field depth and huge amount of neat little touches.

PES Master League is just play match, check league table, play match...

No injuries, I never really have to rest anyone. I just wish they’d pay Master League far more attention.

The gameplay is great this year and I’m happy with it but without sounding like a broken record, it’s not enough.

Once you see the other games presentation you cannot un-see it - its great.
Makes you wonder what the hell Konami have been doing for 12 months?
I think if your going PES then you just have to sacrifice presentation and menus - you shouldn't have to but you will - and just hope Konami spend the next year tweaking game-play but improving EVERYTHING else as it miles behind the other game in every other way.

Well, since the patch, I have played a full season as Ben Woodburn on become a legend. While it is great fun and I can't stop playing (I have Shadow of the Tomb Raider gathering dust here), there are things that still need looking at.
In 46 Championship games, I won no penalties or got any red cards from the A.I.... Ive also seen no injuries.

Without harking on about the past, I remember in PES 6 that if I tackled a player with a C injury rating (Woodgate, Owen, Hargreaves), sooner rather than later, they'll be carted off on a stretcher. I can cripple Sturridge on 2019 all day long and he's fine.

The injuries and red cards issue hasn't been solved for years, Where does our feedback go?

Ive had injuries a couple of serious ones as well, Tevez for 5 weeks and Benedetto for 12 weeks crippled my Boca squad.

Fatigue also plays a factor for me.

I appreciate what you are saying and the FIFA career mode looks nice, but at the end of the day, for me, alot of this has to go with your imagination and living your career in your mind. ML or Career mode are just the front ends that store the data that your brain cannot hold... the rest, you piece together with what you get in game (ie transfers etc) and then derive the rest.

Some way to help would be to report on your mode as a story.. i find that helps, even more if you can do a youtube video or something... it gives you feedback and thoughts that enhance what you feel.

idk I dont think it will ever be perfect, I harp back to FM, thats just a pile of numbers with repetitive story lines, but you can still immerse yourself with your imagination.

so i was playing my Stoke ML this afternoon and thought to myself, why not have a match with better teams.
so i played an exhibition match between Liverpool and Tottenham (prof., 20 min, -1, fuma).
i don't know if i played different, or what it was, but this match was INSANE!!
i'm very well known for my ever repeating 0:0 draws and 2:1 beatings in ML, so i was well surprised how this played out!
i swear to god, i had never so many goals in one match on ps4. so this is the first thing. :)
second is, i am quite happy with all of them (be it mine or from the AI). Kane that beast, give him some space and its in...! that lovely curler at the end... GOSH!! awesome.
at the end the stats were ok, a lot of shooting on target though but i play FUMA so thats fine. you can see some really bad shots from me. but i don't care to much. this is football; this is me not being perfect at the sticks; this is the game with its pros and cons! :D whatever!! i enjoyed it a lot. a hell of a lot!!! :RSCARF:
i was thinking, while playing, "oh boy, you have to upload that and show the guys"! my heart was racing and when the first half ended i put some more pressure on myself when i thought: "don't you f' up the second half, the community is gonna slaughter you...!"! :D
all i can say is breath in.... breath out... sit down and have a look at the video (i will look out for better music next time, this is what share factory gave me):

still i am smiling. :) having a beer on myself now! i feel i deserve one! :D

edit: i wish i was more professional with editing videos! i have so much stuff on ps4 saved for later thats really worth putting in a trailer.
Edit2: this is my first chipped lob over goalie I scored in 2018 and 2019!!

But divisions is great and almost every guy that I play chooses a low rated team.

Are you playing on PS4? Reckon about 75% of the teams I face are either Liverpool, PSG or Barca.

Is not too bad though as you still find a decent variation in playstyles even within those teams. Had a few instances of stupid 4-2-4 formations, but they don't seem effective so not worried. There's definitely something satisfying in dismantling a guy hopelessly spamming 60 yard ground passes and not registering their easy to read.

Still, finding divisions tough! Can't seem to ever progress beyond Div 6, every game feels a graft. What teams are you using? I prefer ones with a minimum of B in form, but have mainly used Everton, Atalanta, Spurs and Uruguay recently.

Not enjoying this game at all. It all feels so samey i.e no depth and way too automated. They need to rip this up and start again - give pes back it's heart and soul. Reget paying £26.85p for it on ps4 tbh.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in responsiveness between PS4 and PS4 Pro? I always liked the responsiveness in training mode and i wonder if PS4 Pro is just a bit snappier.

@dannyfc2

Are you playing on Manual Passing with the Passing filter on? I only have guys that take teams like Ajax, Stoke City etc.
I almost feel bad for choosing teams like Juve sometimes. :D
I don't play PA1 so I don't know about the teams you face there..

Hah that will be it then, im using PA1 and yeah I'd imagine on a manual filter you'd get a better selection of opposition.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong in using a bigger club tbf, as you still need to make the most of them to get a result. Can create some interesting games as well with imbalanced teams.

I have seesawed back and forth between PES and IT that shall not be named and its the feel that always brings me back cap in hand the the one I love. The game play just gets its hooks into you and I feel like I have to always play just one more match (that speaks volumes about the game design).

The on the pitch action is dressed in shabby second hand clothes and it is painful to look at when compared to ......IT. I always try to get creative and add my own conditions to master league in terms of who I can sign sign and give myself random injuries where i dont play a player for X games (totally should not have to do this but it keeps things interesting).

In my BAL mode I come up with storylines and rivalries, kinda like a mini soap opera surrounding my player. I have a series going right now on my channel :
It follows a young superstar Wayne Bowe, he has a full back story and newspaper articles record all the twists and turns along the way.

These things are kinda trivial but when combined with the gameplay it works well for me.

Just seen that if a cpu play goes off to the sidlines injured that the player you've set to mark him will run over to the sidline to mark the player just sitting there lmao. Had Koulibaliy just leave my defence wide open in the last 5 mins of a game.

I have to admit i was the first to think i'll forget PES when RDR2 came out but i couldn't be more wrong.
Here's my experience:

Last thursday after work i came late home so i was waiting for RDR to unlock. I said shy not let's try a game of PES.
I started an Euros competition (i have always hated playing exhibition/pointless games) as England as I have not used England in PES19 before.
*10mins
*PA1
*Superstar (I have not yet unlocked Legend, meaning i have not even won 5 games in SS)

Other teams in group:
*Denmark
*Turkey
*France

1st game, against Denmark:
From the get-go it was feeling different, something about weight of the players, something about the AI presses. I found having little space in the last 3rd of the pitch, as i could tell they were only waiting for a long ball counter opportunity.
Their defenders were tough and no-nonsense attitude. Punting the ball everytime they've got it.
I got plenty of fouls from the AI and even they had a few cards (i believe 3 yellows).
min. 70ish i was able to get them on a defensive error and went straight to their keeper and HE CAME OUT the line, i almost miss the opportunity because this was so unexpected i might have shrieked a little.
I regained composure, ran around the keeper and scored easily with Sterling.
1-0 and was expecting an insane terminator-esque reaction from the AI but they were clearly out of gas. I kept the ball without pressing or making a lot of effort to score. Great great match, i felt strange it was so realistic.
Player weight, ball randomness, player attributes shining, intelligent AI.. was it placebo or Konami did deliver?
Anyway i booted up RDR and it controlled my videogame interests for a couple of days until i became a little bored from hunting and running away from bounty hunters.

2nd game, against Turkey (3 days later):
I remember clearly that when the game started the opposition AI came out running forward to press i was like WHOAH!
I regained calm and it was clear they came out with a do or die attitude, i was able to pick them on the counter and scored twice. I even had a couple of freekicks (scored 1) and had a PK which i scored in the end of the match.
4-0 but it felt like it wasn't that easy, i just fed on their desperation as they lost their opening game.
This game's result gets me through next round and sends them home.
i had to play the next game immediately, there is something about this game now..
Both teams faced i felt they played differently but maybe its due to not being tired or placebo, who knows

3rd game, against France
I "felt" i was "dominating" for the first 25-30 mins, but after a incredibly quick run from Mbappe and a rocket from his right foot i was 1-0. A scrambled ball after a corner made it 2-0, and 3-0 came after i panicked before the end of first half. I did not feel cheated but i fel overwhelmed by the French team.
I started 2nd half cautiosly trying to regain composure, but Kante/Pogba/their wingers had my players under control. I felt like a toothless lion, not being able to do a-ny-thing.
Mistake in the back and Mbappe made it 4 and then 5-0.
5-0 after just winning 4-0 in the last game.
I have to say i did not feel cheated, not even a little and not even for a bit of the game.
I guess this is what you get when facing such a strong team a start rushing your plays and making mistakes.
The world champions (as they proved in last WC) will punish you if you make a mistake.
I was off to knockout round anyway, second place of group.

4th game, round of 16 against Switzerland
this game was very very fun to play, i felt a little superior than them but they were giving a fair fight.
I won in 2nd extra time, sorry if the highlights video is dull.
It was a lot more fun than what the highlights show :D

5th game, round of 8 against Spain
Very hard game, they were tiki-taking the hell out of my team. However, i left no gaps for them to shoot.
I was able to shoot a few times but i was contained.
Before the end of the match Diego Costa got a rebound in the area and nailed it, no chance to come back.. Rodrigo was subbed in for Costa and he kept the ball in a corner the little bastard!
0-1, i can not complain, got narrowly beat by a better team.

At this point i weent to bed and i started playing RDR again the following days, it was until yesterday that i retried playing that 5th match (i have autosave ON)

5th game, quarterfinals against Spain, v2.0
I had the exact same feeling, tiki taka was having them running circles around my players.
Did not felt cheated or robotic, this was marvelous. I managed to go to penalties with no goals in regular/extra time.
I shit you not, i parried the first 3 and scored the first 3.
Off to semis!

6th game, semifinals against Portugal
this game felt a lot like the vs Switzerland but with Cristiano Ronaldo upfront.
He would shoot EVERYTIME you give him half a meter. they scored first, then i scored twice, then they leveled.
Their second goal was a rocket from way out, courtesy of CR of course.
I was about to go to Overtime, and i was defending a Corner (usually easy to defend) when i mistakengly pressed square twice. Walker tripped Quaresma and they got a penalty at the 88th.
CR scored it easily and left me no chance to come back.

I was beaten fair and square.
I am left with this feeling i cannot remember when was the last time or if i even had it before with any PES title.
I want more. Game feels like it should and im in love with it. Plus, RDR2 is lovely as well.. what a time to be alive!
I have only been thinking what team to use in a ML.
Should i start in L2 or in championship? Start in southamerica? China? Russia? Use a created team?
Download a MLS option file?
OMG i do not how to start this adventure! Im guessing in lower leagues/shittier teams the strategies will be similar and most of the teams will play the same, im a little afraid of that.

Have you tried and had good tesults from the AI?

Okay so this is really odd. I had a game where player individuality really shined and I lost a match due to it. This is the best loss I have experienced as I was fairly outplayed by the CPU. So I was USA playing against Mexico and ended up losing 4-1. Lozano dribble past my bad RB multiple times sometimes doing skill moves, other times just wrong footing and outbursting my defender which was mindblowing to me. This is the first time I have experienced CPU trying to play like a real human being instead of a ping pong machine. All I can think of this that certain matches are scripted to give you an illusion of harder difficulty. However those scripts are so predictable that you can easily exploit it and win every matches. However the matches that are not scripted surprises me the most. Like the player Lozano trying to dribble past me and doing high crosses whilst they play long through passes at times. And at other times, they make bad passes towards me with the passing completion being 76% for me and 78% for Mexico. Yet they had around 17 shots and scored 4. My question is, why does PES needs this scripting bs? Why not disable it? They don't trust the AI? Because they should. The CPU AI is really good without the bs scripting mode.

@sonoman That sterling winning goal is a broken element of the game, All the AI defenders run away from you, I'd encourage people to communicate this to Konami coz it's getting silly.

Nice post though and the game is indeed very enjoyable!!

Yup, nice curler there by Kane.
I experienced a similar header where the ball is blocked by the defender near the post but bounced towards the net.
Can't see yours clearly but did it bounced the GK's back/head after it's blocked by defender?

Yes, that kind of AI defending really need fix. The other defenders must step quickly once the initial marker has already been beaten. It Konami fix this, it will add more satisfaction to scoring goals.

Exactly. Bouncing back from the goalies back. :)
Yeah, that low curler by the AI is lovely. They do shot low, they do miss high and low. But I also find they have a tendency to score from exactly the pen box line into the high corner of the goal after the patch.
It is something a see a little to often for my liking. Will keep and eye on it. Overall it’s much more varied now. Like that.

For this video, no goal felt cheated to me.

Yes, they have a lot goals you mentioned.
Also, when they shoot outside the box, it's always close to the line.
Hoping to see some really long range goals from the AI, about 4 meters or more from penbox line.
I haven't seen one, except for The Truebrit video using Incas mod pre-patched with Messi.
Maybe, I've seen a few but quickly forgot because I'm being beaten badly by the AI.:D

So I Went on to use Spain for a couple of matches in Divisions last night (I usually never pick the big dogs) and man that was satisfying! I know there is a debate about manual being slightly assisted or not but when controlling the spanish players I could ping the ball around with ease but never to the point that it became ping- pongey. Going back to Atalanta afterwards was really hard.

On a side note; I scored a nice goal with a R2- finish from David Silva, it was inside the box but at least there the manual R2- shooting worked. Outside of the box I find it impossible to perform with manual shooting as people have mentioned before.

I have one attempt on video, where I got my keeper out wide and misplaced a pass. The AI took a chance but missed from about 40 meters 1 meter left of the low goal post. :D
That’s not what you mean I guess. I’m with you. More shot variety outside the box would be nice!

Did you set the ML to "Challenge" instead of "Classic"? Also start with the nonsense players and then you'll see fatigue plays a major role, injuries occur and you have to do squadrotation to keep things running.

I would really like to see that manual R2 shot! Sounds awesome.
I nearly always miss them from outside. Inside I do hit the hit.

I see that massively in ML now. Players walking tired... not running for the ball late in the game. I like that. :)
Subbed in players stand out, when brought on late (70 min and up). I like to bring some from the bench and outpace or outdribble the tired AI! :)

So I started a Master League with Napoli. (real players)
I dont want to bring in too many established players so brought in Pulisic (20), Foden (18), Upamecano (20), Zinchenko (21) & Werner (22) and sent Foden, Zinchenko and Upamecano out on loan. They are for the future.
Only established player I bought was Schmichael.

Santos offered me crazy money for a 23 year old CM - About £28m and I sold Rog to Seville for £18m.

Thats all the buying Im doing and I have about £40m in the bank.

One crazy transfer I saw. I wanted a keeper so went for Reals Navas. I offered Opsina and £25m. It was turned down so I went back for him and he had moved...to Liverpool...who have just spent £70m on Alisson - what the hell!!!!

Came 2nd in that silly pre-season cup. No idea why you cant come out of it and choose your own friendlies? Is that so hard Konami?
Lost first league game to Atlanta 2-1 after taking the lead.

The goalkeepers are still very floaty when the ball is in the air - how many years has it been like this? The game play is ok, but so much of this title is mediocre at best. When playing this game I feel that my controller input is irrelevant, I press to shoot and the comp decides where the ball goes. No wonder that there is little satisfaction in scoring a goal when playing this game. PA1 needs to be more "free as a bird" as well. So, what we have is an improved pes 2018, but with too many of the same game play issues that spoil the experience for me. I will not even comment on presentation and content, let alone the audio! And what was the point of adding all of those extra licensed leagues in such a half arsed way?
