Hi, i'm back in London sadly, i'll be able to do some more tactics, play and talk more about PES but this City is crap, pure depression and shit. Vidoegames matter too much here.
Having the internet scarcely available in Aus was a blessing. So surprised how little i missed it and how little i actually need it!
anyway....
My assessment on PES this year, the game was clearly not finished, so many brand new things have presented problems and people instead of looking to understand why things are the way they are, people have been very easily influenced by shills, trolls and all sorts of moaners and this place has gone apeshit with negativity. Now notice how i'm not looking to say PES 2014 was perfect, your all wrong and blah, blah, blah, no at all, it's clear as day the problems, the problem here is we are so highly strung up on things not being perfect, we let our emotions run wild.
Konami have screwed up a number of things but far, far less than people cry about.
anyway.......
What i write abut today is regarding why PES is like it is and the future.
Problems? How did they start? Seems relatively simple and something i tirelessly keep repeating. This game is 100% brand new, every single thing has be create from scratch, nothing, nothing whatsoever has been carried over from PES 2013. That in itself should explain everything but lets dig deeper.
The fox engine, brand new animations engine with M.A.S.S! New movement, dribbling, collisions package. This the core issue, all that great work from PES 2011-2013 especially regarding gameplay balance of shooting/passing/crossing/through balls etc.., defensive and offensive AI, all of this was not carried over, which meant the immense challenge of creating this all from scratch, getting everything in at least a basic working state took priority, it seems Konami didn't have enough time to get this all done by September, hey, fair enough, even after the update, despite improvement, so many of the new things needed to be sorted out to a basic level, the depth of PES 2013 isn't there as much.
Now, lets add, Adam and a few other community managers spoke in mid 2012 regarding PES 2014 on the 'PS4' having 'Full 3d kits' and 'Snowy conditions'. This game we are playing now was originally intended for the PS4 (next gen) but what threw Konami off was the delay of the new generation consoles, so much so that releasing this game on the PS4 this year just would not had been profitable, sadly business rules in this day and age so with PES 2014, it was about creating the game being developed from scratch and optimizing it for the PS3. Let's move back to the Fox engine with all it's new features, just getting all of the brand spanking new features ready was a task in itself, hence unlike with PES 2013 which was refined for 2 years, just like PES 5 which was refined over a number of years to give a quality game with few bugs and balanced deep gameplay.
Getting all the functions ready and working, testing to them out to make sure they work and how you can build from there and what it's potential is. This is a level away from knowing what functions you have and how they work and refining them. Then after there is the task to getting them all to work responsively without being too unrealistic.
I've still very positive with this game because first and foremost i appreciate the effort Konami have put in to make it possible, i didn't expect perfection, i expected more errors considering the situation, but they have let themselves down in a few areas mainly:
- Superstar is broken.
This has really let them down because people are highly ignorant, they believe without even testing that Superstar is the height of difficultly without question. Those who played PES 5 should know from previous experience this is never always true, and even PES 2013 since Top Player and Superstar where practically the same, only difference was on Superstar the AI would occasionally go into 'God Mode' when on form.
No idea why they didn't just swap Professional with Superstar though.
- Squad updates
No excuse Konami.
- Stadiums
Should of at the very least recreated all the generic stadiums for PES 2013
- Online
a mess as per usual
These are the main unforgivable mistakes. I'll speak about the game play later specifically.
Apart from this, i see a lot to look forward to, this has been lost with all the ranting. Next year on the next gen, since they have a base to work from i can see Konami having been knowledge of how it's new gameplay runs, what the potential is and refining the game so it plays like PES 2013. I keep mentioning PES 2013 because this clearly the model PES productions is aiming for in gameplay, the control layout is exactly the same with a few minor additions, they just want to build on it with better technology. The responsiveness problems on the PS3/360 shouldn't be an issue at all on the next gen, the defensive and offensive AI awareness from PES 2013 has a chance of being reproduced and also with Keepers and shooting, so much more time now to refine and balance these areas.
I'm looking at this new engine being able to possibly produce some dynamic weather, with, sunny, cloudy, wet and snowy conditions, the omission of rain this year shows Konami want to get weather right in the future.
Finally I'm sick and tired of some people blaming adam for hyping the game, what the hell is wrong with you people, you shouldn't be basing everything off a community mans opinion, especially when its his job to sell the product, judge the game on your own balanced opinion, don't cry and adam or whatever overhyping the game too much. This just smacks of people having an sheep mentality just following the angry mob. Hate on Adam for him being rude, he needs to work on this, i agree, but for hyping a game, really?
If we all want PES to improve rather than act like spoiled children lets look to understand whats wrong so we can give the best possible feedback, ranting doesn't solve anything, infact it causes more confusion than anything and invites shills ill to drive in to start saying all sorts.
We as a community need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves so much as if we are all victims. We need to start focusing on what can be done rather than crying constantly about the past and expecting perfection every year.
