Re: PES 2014 Discussion Thread (NO PIRACY TALK, YOU WILL GET BANNED!)
Ok, so I got some things on my mind. I got Pes 2014 last friday for PS3 and been playing it a lot during the weekend. At first, I was very frustrated on the new controls and "stiffness" of the players, but now I can state this is not the case. Just minutes ago I reached my peak moment with Pes 2014 so far.
What I did was to install game data from the options in the main menu. This came to transfer my game literally. It could be placebo and just me adapting to the game but but anyhow the game suddenly felt more responsive and polished. It still lags sometimes and there is slowdown around the box, but other than small bugs I'm now satisfied with Pes 2014 and finally able to experience its brilliance.
My conclusion is that it surely takes a while before you get grips on this game. You have to spend a lot of time making love with it, taking long breaks then come back again. It comes to you slowly as you accustom while you play. It is impossible to judge the game before you can play it properly and if you just give it time it all comes to you. For example, the dribbling isn’t stiff for me anymore since I realized that you have to use both sticks while dribbling nearly all the time. Using only the left stick is close control, but dribbling and trapping with both sticks is the real deal (it still bothers me though that we haven’t got any dribble speed stat anymore and instead every player who is fast automatically gets super good dribble speed which is far from realism). There should also be a more normal jogging tempo as an alternative like in previous Pes games, as for now you really just can sprint or move tightly. But then again as I said, dribbling with both sticks reduces this.
The game is so deep you have to dig into it before shouting that it sucks when it’s just you sucking at the game. I did that myself but it was idiotic since it was just me being paralyzed. The previous Pes games with all disappointments through the years has made me an angry man but if this year wasn’t different I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this. The butterflies in my stomach are back (hopefully they will remain lol). Something totally new and beautiful emerges right in front of you the moment you learn to control this game. I don’t think I have to get into detail as everyone will see this eventually and some of you already have.
The tactics are also important to understand if you want to play the game you like. It works a bit different from previous Pes games for sure, but I’m sure everyone will learn it soon enough.
I do still have doubts in some areas though. I am an offline player and playing on Top Player is very easy for me when it comes to possession. Fairly comfortable I dominated a 15 min game against Roma with Atalanta although it ended 0-0. Before that I played on professional with Barca against AS Monaco and I could literally glide through the match without lending the ball out at all. The AI plays more on the ground than previous games but the players take too much time with the ball and can’t hold it good enough. My style has always been possession football and I’m specialized it and since I’m a barca fan I don’t know any other football. Maybe it’s me being too extreme with this. Btw I think adjusting tactics for every team will surely make them play better, let’s see how that goes. Proffessional is too easy for me anyway.
I do also sadly feel player/team individuality is missing. It’s still early and I'm adapting but I didn’t feel much difference in playing with Barca or Atalanta. I was able to dictate the game as easily with both teams and players felt the same a lot. Everyone runs and at the same speed with the ball it seems and there is small speed differences in general. Hopefully this will change with time while discovering new things and getting better at dribbling with both sticks.
Hoping for a patch to sort out the bugs as ASAP, shame on you Konami.
