Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)
I'm not a fan of this Manual shooting, I think it's shit. It certainly doesn't feel stat-related in the same way the passing does. Not for me, thanks.
Totally agree with this. I'm as big a zero passing assistance evangelist as anyone, but manual shooting is bollocks. It's not just the lack of stat effect, it's that such a tiny percentage of the arc of the stick actually points at the goal. This means that you can't express yourself with shooting - you just have to get the stick into precisely the right tiny area and hope for the best.
You can actually shoot sideways, at a 90 degree angle, if you jerk the stick a little too far (which no professional footballer in the world would ever do). If you get the stick movement slightly wrong you should miss, sure, but when was the last time you saw a shot go directly sideways instead of forwards, or at least towards the same compass point as the goal? It's not a matter of "oh, learn to shoot properly" - it's that it shouldn't work like that, even for the very worst shots. Yes, in real life you can spoon an attempt in completely the wrong direction. But no one has ever unleashed a solid, powerful shot which went off at a 90 degree angle to the way they were facing, and the direction in which they were meant to be aiming. It's not even possible. Not without overbalancing and falling on your arse, and possibly doing yourself a mischief.
In normal shooting, you miss by aiming a bit too far to one side relative to your position, by mistiming your shot, or by shooting when not properly balanced. That's how it should be.
The theory that Konami removed league mode to redirect players into the new, sponsor-driven master league is one that was put out there when the news first hit by myself and others. To me the 'bootgate' scandal and league mode removal go hand-in-hand. The latter is a consequence of the former. Konami did this for a reason. They didn't just forget to include league mode.
I didn't see these older posts you mentioned (I've been away) but yeah, I think this is 100% correct and it's a total fucking scandal. I'll probably still get PES 2013 because I mostly play online in various communities, but I can't see myself bothering with offline play at all this year, and I'm really upset about that - and genuinely disgusted that Konami are behaving like this. There's no justification whatsoever - I can understand people trying to look on the bright side, but anyone actually making excuses for Konami on this issue (or worse, having a go at those who are complaining) seriously needs to check their head. Konami have rewarded those of us who kept PES alive through the lean years - when they were incapable of producing even a halfway-decent game, or just too lazy to bother - by taking the corporate cash and giving us the finger. It's an absolute piss-take, and if they're allowed to get away with this then God only knows what PES will look like in three years. Or if it will even exist.
Looking at the various bits of news, I can only see confirmation that the Community Mode DLC in October covers online play. No suggestion whatsoever - anywhere - that this DLC will deliver an offline Community Mode. I think we're screwed.
Well, the cheating is still in. CPU plays a through ball, I'm the CB running and easily going to pick up the ball .... nope! The computer, for no reason whatsoever, DRAGS my player to the left and AROUND the the oncoming striker almost like there's a forcefield around him that I can't get near. Once the striker runs onto the ball, I'm allowed to control the CB again.
That happened all the time in Demo 2. It's pathetic. They're not even trying to make it look like the computer isn't cheating.
I agree when people say that a lot of the "cheats" are actually realistic situations badly represented due to limited animation. Things like this aren't though, they're just blatant cheating. Are you supposed to look at it and go "oh ho ho, naughty computer - I'll get that back!" and jovially shake a fist? It's bloody ridiculous in 2012. Sure there has to be some bending of the rules for the AI to provide a challenge, but...
I'm still waiting to hear whether scripting and "momentum" is still in for 1v1 games. This was the single most ludicrous, pointless and enjoyment-killing innovation from PES 2012 - as though anyone thought that 1v1 games were just too fair, and could be improved by blatantly weighting the game one way or another so it wasn't an actual contest. I'll be amazed if it isn't still there, to be honest.
Ummmmmm... sorry if I sound "negative". I hope I'll enjoy this new game (what I can play of it). This stuff is a disgrace, though.
