PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I'm really loving some of these cross field passes you can play. The way the player shapes his body to strike the ball, and the way the ball curls through the air look so realistic.

Then again I haven't got a handle on the new controls yet so I may inadvertently played a few low long balls. Need to print off a sheet with the controls on and have it beside me.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Wish there was an easy way to contact Jon Murphy to give feedback.

The sound & atmosphere in this game is so flat, you score a goal and there's bugger all reaction apart from some distant cheer that sounds like its outside of the stadium, they really really need to address that, football is all about the atmosphere of scoring a goal and drama etc, and the sound is just so flat, wtf.... 0% atmosphere when a goal goes in...

Dont get me wrong I love the demo, but its so bloody frustrating that they cant get the sound right!

Oh yeah, I had an idea, rename the series to Pro International Superstar Soccer, stands for PISS

xD Its a joke btw..... :P

Really hope they can sort out the sound before release....

but didn't konami tell in one of their earlier movies that they are working on the atmosphere? maybe its simply not yet in the demo. at least i hope so.

i really love the gameplay so far, but only minor gameplay changes comparing to pes 2012 will not make me buying the game again.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Absolutely in love with this on the PC. Truly addictive.

Btw, if anyone's interested, here are my adjusted camera settings for PC:

Long
10
50
255
255
63

Had different ones yesterday but these are the ones I've settled for.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I'm sorry, I mixed up the names of the cams, it's not "long wide" that I'm playing, it's called "vertical wide".

You feel right on the pitch, just like I feel when I'm playing in real life.

And with the camara-settings-mod I can adjust it to my liking, I made it be a bit higher. Awesome things can be done on PC. I think there is no turning back for me to the xbox360.

Hany's night turf-patch alone has done the trick and the night-games now look pretty good!

I guess I have to buy a Mini-port-HDMI-adapter so that I can connect my macmini with my 42"-plasma.

I still can't understand how fan-modders get things done so much better than Konami.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

You're absolutely right about the audio in the demo, it's very disappointing once again, here's hoping it'll be improved for the final game, however unlikely that might seem.

Did a quick edit of my Welbeck goal with some real life commentary to show how it could be...

YouTube - PES 2013 - Audio Replacement

Not game breaking by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly would of improved my enjoyment of PES.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

The one thing I'm really enjoying is that most of the play is in the midfield area now. The less perfect first touch compared to 2012 and better defending contributes to it a lot.

Yeah those are exactly my thoughts. I love how a match can turn into a dour midfield battle then spring into life with one moment. It's the exact opposite of how 2012 played.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

OK, well I've finally had a chance to play it. Got through about 4 or 5 matches with various teams, and here are my impressions;

-The sense of weight/inertia is more pronounced

This is a big plus for me, and its reduction was one of my main greviences with PES 12 after PES 11. Dribbling makes a lot more sense now, and involves planning and timing rather then the impossibly agile twists and turns in PES 12. This carries through to shooting and passing as well with the new physics, leaving more 'oomf' and immersion. Through this you can utilise more physical players more, and I actually found using Andy Carrol quite effective.

With regards to shooting, I'm still getting to grips with it but it's already massive improvement. The ball seems to go where I'm aiming, although now the frequency of missing the target has increased. In PES 12, most missed opportunities were a result of the ball being attracted to the centre, and luckily I didn't notice that this time around. Passing feels similarly weighty, and more akin to FIFA then the bowling ball mechanics of before. I'm still skeptical over the influence of passing stats mind.

Keepers, again no blunders or glaring areas in the time I played. Defending also seemed less random at this pace.

Unfortunately, the CPU AI was very poor, and I can't see myself giving the game much time offline unless it's dramatically improved. Top Player appears less of a challenge then last year, with an even greater tendency to give away possession.

Overall, it's a very 'solid' game without being too revolutionary. It's progressed from were PES 11 left off, while incorporating the better aspects of PES 12. In a sense it feels like a hybrid between the two, and you could argue it is the game PES 12 should have been. I'm content with that, and if online multiplayer is sorted this year I will definitely sink a significant amount of hours into playing. For people that didn't like PES 11 or 12, I doubt this will change their mind really.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I've noticed some people saying how the stumble animation is really off-putting. That's strange because I genuinely haven't suffered from it yet, in fact I've been able to use it to my advantage. A couple of times I'd ride a challenge, half get knocked off the ball, then my player's acceleration (I think with Ashley Young) enabled him to get back onto the ball again.

And when defending, the mechanics are brilliant fun. Call a second defender over, box some fleet-footed winger into a corner by the touchline, then keep on battering him with standing tackles until he goes down or the ref calls for a foul. It really looks like real life occasions where the top players get treated to a touch of the rough stuff. Speaking as an ex-full back, that is very, very fun.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Does anyone know of an "Idiots guide to PES 2013 for someone who's been playing FIFA since FIFA08" video or something?

Unfortunately there isn't one. You could spend hours upon hours each day on this new generation of PES, and still not know everything 9 months down the line. It's as deep as you should ever care to dig.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Played one game last night, think they've captured the sense of "being on the pitch" really well. Hand gestures, body movements, random things happening that make it look real sometimes.

Shame the sound is awful and they don't capture the crowd atmosphere.

Going to give it a proper go on Sunday night.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Top Player, 2bar passing, is how this game is meant to be played. Superstar is there to frustrate you. Not because it's too hard but because players get a huge stat boost, especially on defending stats.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

best pes in years i have to admit. still flawed in important areas, but very good to play and fun.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Konami should change the ai behavior to fit the new gameplay, its almost the same behavior as pes 2012. In pes 2013, though the ai changed abit, the directness of the ai combined with the new gameplay makes them largely ineffective and less potent. Hopefully next demo changes that. Its too easy atm. They need to make the cpu play patient build ups, and reduce the amount of through passes and long balls. They simply throw away the ball.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

the graphics and sound department of Konami are paid to do what exactly ? By graphics I'm specifically talking about turf coloring and texture and sound everything related to it.
They should be ashamed that patchers can do a better job than them

Agreed. Was thinking this morning how hard can it really be to make the the goal posts and nets white, instead of light gray. They've been that way for 3 games now.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right, but I meant more of a control wise guide.

I used to know everything about PES, now I feel like a noob.

Is there a pic or guide of all the moves and button combinations?

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I'm probably gonna get this for the PC year.

How much of a ball ache is it to patch all the team names, kits, player names, stadiums and sound etc?

Easy these days fella. You use Kitserver and that means you dont have to patch the IMG files at all Kitserver takes over and uses the kit files you have inserted and faces etc.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I am winning games with 90% of goals from outside the box. I am too lazy to get inthe box cos keeper saves 99% and i lose the ball cos striker wants 1 more touch. Defenders blocking shots is OTT. I can understand a miss kick but not a block shot with supreme reactions and explosiveness from the defender that was marking the other striker.

CPU defenders have greate reactions while your defenders often let ball roll past them to strikers. There is no man marking logic and defenders play just like midfielders giving no urgency to the situation. Although in offence midfielders are more than happy to get into the box in defence they dont want to unless they are DM and then they want to be the las man back (WTF) too much space between both CB and CB loves to drift wide to much to help the SB when that should be done by the wingers and the DM/CM.

Goal keepers speed when rushing the stricker is too slow. The reactions are too slow and he doesnt spread him self enough bring back manual keepers. CPU 1 v 1 scores almost al lthe time.

Ozil is faster and stronger than Pepe and can shoot C. Ronaldo like screamers when getting hounded by the Defense.

I play Top player 15 minutes and i have yet to concede a believable goal yet (concede 1-2 every game in about 25 games). I have yet to concede a believable goal since 2011 when these cpu Ghost balls began.

CPU lacks creativity and score the same goals all the time. Where is the Team vision and personlity? Game gets boring if you take it serious i just play no to see how many outrageous dribbles i can do.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I've unlocked the demo to play for longer but how/where do you save the turf patches? It's the first time i've tried modding. Thanks.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

can someone explain me the deft touch and dynamic first touch?
whats that
and lofted long pass?

oh and whats the combo now to use manual high through pass if there is one?
in 011 u cud do simple triangle + L1 for assisted or L2 + high pass button for manual high pass but not L2 + L1 + triangle off course

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Demo is great. Many similarities to PES12 however most changes are in the gameplay.

I use RT alone as make quick turns and trap. Don't hit RB until immediately after you turn with RT.

Ball Physics:
Ball physics feel heavy and great. Because of this, you need to power up your shots more to get some power and velocity behind it. At times though, the ball physics act erratic and it feels either too floaty, or too heavy. I beleive a balance is needed for final version.

Dribble:
Dribbling is great and looks more organic in my opinion. It's a lot of fun.

Heading:
Heading seems the same as previous versions, but responsive which is good.

Through Balls:
Through balls are a delight when performed on Manual. You can really split the defense with some great well-times through balls.

Collision:
Collision seems ok to me. Nothing out of this world but good enough not to ruin the game. I would like to see more stronger beleivable collission and feel it in my controller without the clunkyness.

Crossing:
Crossing is fine.

Player switching:
I have no problems with player switching on Semi. This on xbox ofcourse.

GK's:
Gk's perform some amazing realistic saves in this demo, however some of the past nuances are still there. Such as spilling the ball into an opposing player's feet. Doesn't happen often, but it happens.

Shooting:
Tried manual shooting for 10 matches and couldn't hit the target if my life depended on it. I got frustrated so I switch to auto shooting which seems fine to me and allowed me to score some nice goals and to enjoy the game.

Player ID is great. One thing though, you need to try playing this game on +2 speed. That's were the real movement of players becomes responsive and more natural. Although "0" speed and +1 speed is also very good and playable. Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Bolatelli, C.Ronaldo, Neymar, Rooney, and others are a joy to control.

Passing:
Passing is great, especially on Manual.

Defending:
Defending has been touched. I have no problems taking the ball away from a player by double-tapping "A", or squaring up with RT. Slide tackles are still the same, In future games, I would like to see more nasty lunges at players feet if I choose to be dirty like Van Bommel. I want to see and hear the impact of a hard, dirty, tackle.

Dash:
I don't have any problems with the Dash button execution. I have noticed that the players accelerate faster and run at a more noticeable full-pelt speed when you play on +2 speed.

Game will be a definite buy for me. Gameplay to me does feel a bit clunky however the positives far outweigh the negatives in this area. I also noticed that the graphics, though may appear to not have changed, have been polished because I am able to see more sharper details in certain things such as the players shoes, goal-nets, ball, stadiums and pitch.

The night games are still crap though. They really need to fix this and make night games look more natural with better lighting. I try to avoid night games because of this. Even the goal-nets look more gray and invisible on night games. Makes no sense at all. oh well...

Another little thing that I see as a negative is that the ball does feel light at times with no noticeable sound coming from a punt. Must be a glitch. Another glitch (on the xbox) is that there is a noticeable stutter when the ball crosses the goal-line. Don't these geeks at Nokami check and test the Demo for glitches/bugs before release??? Unbeleivable.

All in all though, the game is great. I just hope the players animations get tweaked some more to look more organic in the final product. And hope that they implement more camera options FFS!

I'm having a fun with the Demo, however I am aware that I still need to give it more playing-time because to this point, PES 5/6 are still the most fun and enjoyment I ever had on Winning Eleven Games. This Demo in my opinion is playable and fun, but it's still far from what I expect this series to be in 2012/13. There is still lots of room for improvement of this game in the coming years. I just hope those improvements in the coming years are major and not minor. I hope these portions of improvements are in large doses, not small. Especially in the gameplay area.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

@Lami: On the controls thread, Low Manual shot is no longer performed like described on those pics. It's now LT+Square+Triangle when the player is about to hit the ball.
