PES 2011 Discussion thread

Isn't the point with the game gelling/not gelling meant to be down to you being on the same wavelength as your players and their abilities, rather than scripting the match to the benefit of one person or another and then saying 'well that's football'? By all means use variables like the form arrows and the general sense of chance in the game to create that sense of one team being in the ascendency over another, but I didn't see Klash's post as an endorsement of this scripting but pointing out that if everything is clicking for you then it could be because the game is giving you a relatively free ride.

Seems a bit unfair to me if my defensive midfielder runs up to easily intercept a diagonal throughball and suddenly stops simply because football's a funny old game. That's not how you should be doing it.

Rooney, Eto'o, Messi, Higuain, Essien, Dotan, Aguero... I've got a whole Marc Almond situation going on at the minute, and it's not by consent.

I wasn't having a go at you (which I guess is how it reads), just saying that scripting like this is not a good thing and is not representative of football. Wrestling, sure. Eastenders, yup. But I'm fed up of seeing people play shocking football and win because my players are in 'fucking idiot' mode, and having to sit through people spamming the messages and replays to rub in that my lower rated team outplayed them and lost/drawn. I appreciate that PEEL eliminates a lot of these people, but it should be up to Konami to stop these people from succeeding in the first place so that modes like MLO don't become off limits to PEEL types after a couple of months.

For once im going to have to agree with you rom.I havent touched pes2011 since launch because for me it just feels broken in comparison to the WE2011 demo(which wasnt without its problems).I dont know what happened between the final game and the asian demo but whatever tweaks that were made between these two different stages of the code certainly reverted pes2011 back to the heavy scripting of pes2010 or the days of ps2.Maybe from a commercial point of view the changes in pes2011 were considered to be to big and in the final hours the scripting was re-introduced to give pes2011 that fimiliar feel.

For me the scripting of pes is what pes is and ultimetly will be konamis un-doing unless they manage to produce a balanced and fair gameplay system that is more reflective of reality, rather then what seems to be there standard dumb the ai down for one player and player response to give the gameplay that feeling of being un-predictible when infact its obvious and predictable because its all we the end user have been presented with for the last 10 years or so in pes both on the ps2and next gen which is frankly becoming tiring and boring, its old hat now.

While i admire some on heres strong defence of pes2011 which isnt without some technical merit, its a far cry from being a great mirroring of the real game and konamis own ISS and perfect striker series on the n64,that interms of ai,animation, fluidity and general depth of gameplay stills leaves there current generational efforts in the shade as did it pes on the ps2,which was always a stripping down of this opus series control interface and shear footballing depth and variety.

This is what i find so hard to swallow, that a series of games produced on low spec hardware on a platform that is now 14 years old has better ai and generally captured the technical essence and the depth of real football that awarded those with skill and a real footballing brain, not a simplistic passing by numbers broken scissor paper stone sim that has more in common with final fantasy then it does the fast paced reaction ready football game.

Call me a sinnic, call me a troll but anyone that was there and living it back on the n64 will understand that between 1996 and 2000 konami were producing a better game with far richer and rewarding gameplay then they have ever managed to with pes, both on the ps2 and current platforms.History doesnt lie nor does the year in year out annual release of a broken unfinished product that always feels UNDERCOOKED!,being great in certain aspects but always feeling broken and unsolid.

What happened to the days when we could place are shots low and high, add aftertouch, manually chest trap and have ai that reacts how it should to the ball,as well as a mariade of other skill based aspects that have been relegated to the sidelines in favour of this horrible artificial ai and dumb gameplay that makes power and placement decisions for the end user despite the power bars and much tauted freedom of direction.

Good answer. That's more like it, intelligent humour. :)

I just think that it's going to be pretty much impossible to stop bellends being bellends. It's who they are. I also dont believe we will see the day anytime soon that a football game cant be exploited in some way or another. Where there is a will, there is a way. I'm just happy that the biggest issue with regards sprint whores was dramatically reduced this year. Also, maybe you should just consider sacking MLO as your main past-time and get involved a little more over at PEEL. They run weekly tournaments, and there is always members in the lobby to have proper 15 minutes friendlies with. If all you want is to enjoy the game, fairly, without having to entertain knobheads, then everything you need is there mate. I dont play Ranked matches, I never have, means nothing to me. I'd rather just play good people and earn respect my from friends and peers on the way I believe the game should be played.

So, in a nutshell, I guess I'm saying I have no sympathy. You cant constantly swim with sharks and expect not to get bitten. :)

Pissing off knobheads in ranked matches/MLO is fun though, just VERY frustrating when the scripting kicks in and you can't do a thing to stop them...

When the game plays fairly and you can maneuver around their sprinting maniacs, intercept their impossible passes etc. then you can truly dominate the game by playing realistic tactical football, scoring well worked goals and shutting out their one-dimensional bollocks - when it's like that it's the most fun video game I've played, shame it's the polar opposite at times.

I've found the strangest thing in this game, can anyone help how to fix this?

Basically, I added a load of custom crowd chants to the game a while ago, and the Man Utd ones got really irritating really quickly, so I set the audio to 'pattern' and 'default'. Yet when I played as them the old chants still come through in the matches.

So, I deleted the audio from the hard drive of my PS3 completely. The songs are STILL somehow being sung. How is this even possible??

After that, I deleted the game data, basically everything PES related (patches, installed data, saved data, edit data, everything) on my hard drive and started from scratch. According to the game, there are no custom chants whatsoever, as I'd just deleted everything from the hd (and have double and quadruple checked they're not lingering on the drive) and also re-started my PES option file from scratch, but to my amazement the United crowd are STILL repeatedly singing a song about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It's bizarre and bordering on weird. There's no data on my PS3 but the game is still playing the songs I first added just to see what they sounded like. They're definitely the songs I first added, as I doubt Konami would add a song saying "and Alan Shearer...... was fucking dearer" in a crowd chant. Unless Seabass got drunk one day and ordered it to be added.......

Can anyone explain why this is going on???!

Never doubt the weirdness of Konami.

Seriously.

What you're hearing isn't your upload, it's a default chant. If you're hearing any of the other songs you uploaded then something really weird is going on, but my bet is that this will be the only one you hear. As far as I can tell, it's the only "real" chant in the game (that's PES 2011, rated as suitable for ages 3 and above).

I'm sorry but this is killing me.. LMAO

I'm sure the Solskjaer chant is an in game chant also

Surely that can't be a real default chant, that must be a wind up :CONFUSE:

It's the exact chant in one of the FIFA11 crowd chants I downloaded from their forum and used in PES instead.

This gets more and more bizarre....!

I've just googled it and seems like you're right! Maybe the FIFA audio pack nabbed it from PES or something.

Gonna have to change it though, it's sung almost every 20 seconds....

This happened to me, it's the usual strange shit you would expect from those mad scientists Konami!

it's a bug

Basically when you want to stop using chants you have imported i think you need to make sure you delete everything from the 'custom' then set it to pattern just to make sure it's clean.

Quite hard to explain but it's a issue which someone needs to report :)

OR i do actually think that Solskjaer chants is set to default by Konami. I heard the,m singing it in my ML on the PC which i haven't downloaded any chants for!

It makes sense in that i don't think Konami understand what fucking dearer means :) Translations eh!

Konami really are like mad scientists!

What the hell...

Jon Murphy today on Twitter:

I hope to God Jon Murphy and the rest of the geniuses at Konami have recognized and addressed the obvious lack of fouls in this game.

I am sick and tired of the blatant disregard of this key aspect of the game that we all love. Free kicks and set pieces are HUGE in football. I play 20-25 minute halves on either Pro or Top Player and more often than not I have games with less than 5 total fouls. It's unacceptable and stupid that this was ignored. I have to see a red card called on the CPU. That includes 35 Master League games and countless exhibition matches. Not one Red Card?!?!?!?

Question: the in game command list says RB (dash dribble button) + ball direction LS is "turn around without touching the ball" - this is to shield the ball from an opponent right? I ask because I seem to be able to shield the ball sometimes but other times I can't seem to get my player to respond. Does it only work in specific situations? The times I seem to be able to get it to work are when my player is going for a 50-50 ball and he shields the opponent from the ball, but I seem to not be able to mix dribbling with a stop and shield move. Makes stopping to survey the field difficult at times because of how easily a defender can swoop in and steal possession. Any help?

It's not for shielding. It's to let the ball run without touching it - so when a pass approaches your player from left to right, hold RB and the direction the ball is moving to let the ball past you and chase it. Very effective if used at the right time.

Ah, gotcha. So is there a way I can place my player's body between the ball and an oncoming opponent? I guess I'm used to being able to rely on the shield button in FIFA if I make a stop and need to protect the ball. I find I lose possession, especially in the first two thirds of the pitch, because I have stopped or have yet to build any momentum yet. Suppose it's just another case of having my wires crossed between the two games.

There isn't a shield button, sadly. You can either stand still, not press anything and let the game do it for you, or you'll have to turn away from the opponent, moving the ball in that direction too. Unless anyone knows any different...

Hi guys does anybody have any tips on how to earn money faster in MLO?

Also, what players do you guys recommend that are cheap but great/decent players?

1. Enter competitions and play loads. You'll likely get a kicking if you're just starting out, but you'll earn a fair bit.
Also, most of us here will have sold a lot of the default players to get some early bread.

2. Check the first few pages of yhe MLO thread for great cheap players. We all started like you and gradually built up over time, so you will see a lot of people at dirt prices. Vukojevic, Avalero, Khlosneri, Plessis etc are all very good for the money (1m or so); after that you've got Willian, Simons (DMF for Belgium, apparently may have a different name now?), Diagne Faye, Paston etc are all good at less than 2m. Personally I can't advise on strikers at these prices - Erding has been my star striker since day 1, racking up some very tasty performances today in fact. Maybe others will have an idea? Good strikers will always cost more anyway.

Might sound strange but a striker I suggest for MLO is Emile Heskey...

15 goals in 20 games for me so far, and he's set up a few as well - Extremely overrated but very effective and he didn't cost me that much, just over 2m I think.

Castolo and Gutierrez did well for me though at the start - Castolo had a scoring record better than 1 in 2! Almost didn't want to replace him!.

Your playing too much of these game on professional, on Top player, depending on the teams you play, some are very aggressive and commit many fouls against you.

I had a 15 minute match and in total there where 12 fouls commuted (6 for each side). 4 players got injured :CONFUSE: it dosen't happen all the time but the game throws matches like this at you every now and again.

Also how good are you dribbling skills, if your a good dribbler you draw fouls from the opposition like i do :)

I've seen a decent enough amount of fouls too, and red cards, and unlike Klash i cannot say I'm anything special at dribbling. The collision system certainly needs work and maybe a few more fouls would be better but an "obvious lack of fouls" i do not see. You're probably too use to FIFA this year!

yes, the animations need to be more dynamic in terms of collisions :)

Or maybe he liked how it was in the demo, where it was like in PES 5. They changed it in the full version so it's more like PES 6.

The most obvious one is when you run in to someone from behind so they start the long stumble animation so you can take the ball.

This is strange for me, as I've played nearly two seasons of ML now on 15 minute halves on Top Player, and see anywhere between 2 & 12 CPU fouls a game. In these (near) 2 seasons, I've seen 3 red cards to CPU players.

The amount of reds to CPU players could do with being a little higher, but a lot of it is down to the refs not giving everything they should OR giving too much for a light tackle. I see a reasonable amount of CPU fouls, but not reasonable leniency and general refereeing.

Hope the patch sorts it! :)

Very true. I paid a little more attention to fouls this afternoon and there's not as many as there probably should be. Not a big deal to me but i know what you mean about that stumble animation - I could do with seeing it less, much much less.
