PES 2011 Discussion thread

Here are a few goals I have scored in the last couple of weeks that I recorded for different reasons. Julio Baptista's at 2.31 mins highlights the use of R2 as a body-feint perfectly. In fact, it's a double-tap of R2 here, the first opens up his body to let the ball run through, the second he steps over the ball to keep the momentum of the pass moving, and then a great finish into the bottom bag. Like I have said before, this R2 is very subtle, but very effective, and that goal was a great example. Also, the last goal by Pellissier was a R2 Finesse Shot. Beautiful. For those who questioned the ability to drive a long shot low for distance, Suarez answers that question. :)

YouTube - Nice Strike Sir

One last video that captures my 5 favourite online matches. A mixture of MLO matches and Exhibtion matches against guys from PEEL. All of them great games, and all with great goals.

1. Boca 4-1 Not sure of the team.(MLO)

A nice lobbed goal from Jeda and a nice dink, with a great long-range low drive from Suarez that caught the keeper unsighted due to the defender in front. I love that one as once again it demonstrates zero keeper-scripting, his vision is obscured and he doesnt react till it's too late. The consolation goal from my opponent was a screamer as well.

2. Chievo 4-2 River Plate

This was an Exhibition match against a guy from PEEL. Another superb game with a fantastic range of goals. The pick being a long-range screamer from the left peg of Constant. It reminded me of Gio van Bronckhorst's in the World Cup, it definately stayed hit.

3. Chievo 4-2 Werder Bremen

Another Exhibition game against another PEELer. I only managed to record my goals as the time ran out. Werder scored two nice goals in the last 10 minutes. The first time lob from Pellissier for the first was sublime. A nice passing move and drilled left foot finish for the 2nd, then two R2 Finesse Shots for goals 3 and 4.

4. Chievo 3-3 Chelsea

An online Exhibition against some random dude. There are two R2 Finesse Shot goals in this one as well. Gutted I conceded in the last minutes, but great game and superb goals.

5. Boca 2-3 ?(MLO Div2 Team)

Two brilliant strikes from Wright-Phillips and Arteta put me 2-0 down early doors, and I feared the floodgates would open. A stunning strike from Suarez pulled one back for Boca, and then an inch-perfect throughball from Vukojevic finds Djemsav who cheekily beats the keeper with a R1 Dink shot on the half-volley. This is probably my favourite finish yet due to the quickness of the thinking to even attempt that type of shot, very instinctive and something I would probably attempt in real-life. Boca very nearly complete the comeback but D'Agostini see's his cracking shot smash off the angle. My opponent then grabs the victory in the final minutes with a snap-shot from Gignac to break the Boca fans hearts. Great game though, stunning.

I love this game. :)

Jimmy how did you score those low shots from ouside the box? R2, or was it just a light tap of the shoot button & the ball 'dug out' from the players' feet? Did the Baptista goal just use R2 for the dummy and not the shot?

Nice goals though! I have a long way to go......

And tc811 cheers for the crossing link, very useful indeed!

It was a light tap of the shoot button with the ball dug out of this feet. He wasnt leaning back in anyway, so the shot stay drilled. Baptista pulled off two dummies there, the body-swerve then the step-over, but the shot, although it looks like a Finesse Shot, wasnt. I hadnt learnt that shot back then. I tapped R2 to let the ball run through, but it still wasnt in the position I wanted it, so I tapped R2 again.

I had so much fun with R2 last night, and realised that just a press at the right moment if the situation is specific pulls off all sorts of subtle feints, dragback's, dummies. It's all very subtle and requires split-second timing relevant to whats happening but it's works in so many ways, you just have to be aware of what your looking for, and be instinctive.

i ask everyone to try that , even just load up the edit file and youll really notice a much more realistic game of football

I have so far only edited the English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and French club teams as I think some teams are slightly faster than they should be making them easier to use, I am going to spend a few days getting them right before moving onto the remaining club teams, then national sides.
:WORSHIP: Thanks for all the hard work guys, I'm picking this up shortly and can't wait to start hitting some goals, it seems PES is a goal-fest compared to FIFA, 0-0, 1-0, 2-1's make up the bulk of the results in my CM, it's so hard to break sides down and you're lucky to get more than 4 chances on goal...

If PES had the off the ball movement and animations of fifa it would be the pinnacle of the genre...
I would NOT see anything that could be improved then. Only lifelike graphics but that is for next generation of consoles...

I dunno, FIFA's off the ball movement is appalling. You have to instruct players to make runs with one of the shoulder buttons, otherwise they just stay still when you need them to move. And even when you instruct them, they just move in a straight line, not into space. Many a time I'd be on the wing, and my striker in the middle kept running out towards me leaving no-one in the box.

Haven't even noticed any problems with players not making runs in PES.

Having a high defensive line is important if you want your team to move forward and press in the opponents' half.

Damn Jim, if I saw you dribbling like that in MLO outside my 18 yard box I would not hesitate to chop you down with Criscito or Jonny Evans.

Lovely flowing moves there Jimmy, makes me think I should attempt a few more pot shops rather than always try to walk it in. That Baptista goal was a beaut.

What do you all have player switching set to? It's seriously pissing me off that it just doesn't change player at all, especially at corners, and leaves the CPU to do what they like. It's also noticably bad when defending and it keeps giving you the midfielders instead of the defender you want to choose :BRICK:

Also very noticable that probably 90% of chances created by the CPU are from through-balls as well, your defenders just don't seem to have any agility in them at all to be able to turn, or even mark the striker. Constant through balls and nothing you can do. Especially when the through-ball is played and the player switching doesn't give you the right defender either.

Flaws are definately becoming more apparant with more play.

Use Semi-assisted and learn to track the channels and CPU single press with Circle. I have no issues at all with through-balls, none at all.

How is it possible that you have no issues with through-balls? When the midfielder plays the pass, you can't have control of the defender to block the channel or mark the striker. There's no way at all to stop the CPU spamming through-balls.

Compare that to FIFA, which I've just swapped over to, and my defenders are marking the striker FAR better and through-balls are happening far less because of this.

No offense but shouldn't you experiment before bashing the game? As far as I'm concerned, you can mold your defense and attack to just about anything, I prefer this to Fifa where you have little control over the A.I.

Cheers Dan, check this beauty out, this is ridiculous. Dennis Bergkamp eat your out son.

Jesus Christ how is that even pulled off?? I presume it's with one of those preset feints, I ain't even touched them so will have to go practice 'em I think as that's sublime!

Also is that the Portugese bloke in one of the Konami fantasy teams? Quite fancy him for my MLO team.

Don't have a problem switching players BEFORE a corner, why gets me is that it instantly changes to another as the ball comes in, EVEN THOUGH it lands as the player you choose first. They're a lottery for me so I just end up mashing shoot to head it away. Noticed this for attacking crosses as well, sometimes it won't even switch in time so the man receiving the cross does a CPU automated shot which is ridiculous.

However I don't actually have any problem switching for the standard ball through the middle, it ain't perfect but I always manage to change to a defender to cut it out.

Experiment before bashing? Sure, that's why it happens in every game, regardless of team, regardless of tactics set.

I've been playing PES since it began and I never had a problem with through-balls in all that time, I fail to see why I'd suddenly start to lose any skills all of a sudden and it's my fault that through-balls are now far too common.

Lobbed-through balls in FIFA; ground through balls in PES: there's always something that's over-powered. I don't want to call either an exploit because you can defend against them, but they are both spammed because they're certainly more effective than they should be compared to other aspects of the game.

In PES it's the same with bicycle kicks and volleys from outside the box - beautiful to watch but a little too easy to pull off compared with other parts of the shooting game.

Like I said, you can defend against the through balls. I'm now at the point where I don't concede too many to those (rather I concede the most to goals where my defenders will be caught ball watching) however they are certainly an overpowered weapon - it can be easier to complete a 40-yard ground through ball than completing a lob pass of the same length. When playing the CPU, the fact that defenders will just watch a through pass roll by them is a bit funny.

When defending through passes do what Jimmy said, and try to always be aware of which player is mostly likely to be the next recipient and anticipate the pass. I still concede from them but not nearly as many as I did at first.

Magnificent scenes, Jimmy. :APPLAUD:

I managed to pull that move with Pato for Milan but I was further out from goal and got dispossessed before I could get the shot off. Haven't got a clue how I did it but it was oh so satisfying to beat a man this way. I guess it's some automated feint that high-technique players have.

Edit: Patch on the way!

I am sure it is hiding somewhere on me but I cannot seem to find out how much stamina my players have left. It must be somewhere in game plan but I cannot find it anywhere. Maybe a number out of 100? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Aren't the stamina gauges in the game plan? You just press R1 or L1 a few times and the green or red gauge should appear above the player's name.

Something really shit that I've only just noticed: the AI doesn't realise when it's in a two-legged tie. The computer just sticks with the preset "leading/level/trailing" settings from Management Edit.

I was drawn against Liverpool in the semi-final of the Europa League. I beat them 2-1 at Anfield (excellent counter-attacking performance, if I do say so myself). Back at our place, they went 1-0 up after about an hour, then immediately made a substitution. I checked the game plan: yep, they'd taken off a forward and brought on another defensive midfielder, and were now playing a defensive formation. They sat back in their own half for the rest of the game while I passed the ball around patiently in midfield. No attempt to attack, nothing. I made the final, but that took a bit off the gloss off it.

The really stupid thing is, the celebrations acknowledged that it was a two-legged match. When Babel scored their goal, he seemed to understand that they still needed another - he didn't celebrate, he grabbed the ball out of the net and ran back to the centre circle (what Englishmen of a certain age still think of as "doing a Platty"). Christ knows what he thought when he saw the board go up a minute later.

Still, I got a laugh - after the match, that little ticker tape thing at the top was giving me the headlines from the Champions League matches that week. You know how you get those things saying "INTER's ETO'O: "I couldn't be happier" or "BAYERN MUNICH manager: "The better team won", except they've only got about three quotes that just get repeated all the time. This week Spurs had been knocked out of the Champs League by Barcelona, and the headline said "TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR's DUMMY: This has to be the biggest disappointment of my career."

I mean bloody hell, the guy gave you an interview, there's no need to get personal.

One thing that bothers me is that they only show the player animations very rarely when you're doing the substitutions. You just get the info on the lower right corner.

Why? These kind of little things add so much to the atmosphere, especially when those animations are so nicely executed. :(

.

That goal wasnt actually by me, so I cant take the credit for it. It was a friend of mine who scored it, he sent me it yesterday. He just named it G-Force because he thought of me when he scored it, and knew it would be right up my street. Also the flick itself is just natural, based on player technique and relevant positioning. I'm yet to pull that off myself in all the games I have played. Then again, I very rarely play with players that are capable of such high technique. Hopefully one day. :)

I had issues with through balls when i first had the game, but not any more to be honest. You have to tinkerwith the sliders until you find a combination that is ideal for you and for the team you are playing with.
I never considered myself to be an ace player, i'm pretty sure that i would loose against the majority of the posters in this thread, but this game is very deep tactically and if you immerse yourself in these tactical possibilities it can become very rewarding. Mastering the game and the team you play with is one of the reasons why i prefer PES (again) over FIFA despite the very obvious flaws of this game (player switching, animations,...).
I have the feeling that some people give up too soon...but of course not you Dags...never you.
