PES 2011 Discussion thread

I'm noticing a lot of opponents today in MLO diving into tackles (committing blatant fouls) because they've realised that the referee wont do anything about it.

I miss the fouls from the demo.

The amount of money you receive for a win seems pathetically small (which could be great and provide real longevity) but then you notice everyone around you already has a team of mostly big name players - it's just a mode full of exploiters trying to cheat their way to a win. It seems the only way to gain money is the competitions but if you can't get online when they're running ... you're basically being given a huge middle finger from konami with the money for a win.

I don't think konami did anything with our feedback from the beta because I can't see any differences.

Same gripes I had in the MLO Beta and I went into good detail on them in the feedback survey as well.
The money you get from one off games isn't worth it and you need to be online in a few hour window to enter the competitions which is the only place you can make any decent money.
Doesn't look like they changed anything though. :COAT:

In 'Game Plan', management section where you decide to play 'counter attack', 'all ot attack' etc when you're leading, level or trailing, does anyone know why there are 2 options (bars to fill)?

It's just a primary and secondary tactic. The top bar being primary. I just link two relevant tactics, they go hand in hand for the most part.

Any noticed reduced lag today? May be cause there's fewer people online but I've noticed I can actually dribble a lot easier today.

Also, anyone know where I can my player stats such as goals/assists for MLO?

What exactly do Konami mean by "Long Ball" in the management edit screen? Surely they can't mean old fashioned English-style "hoof it up to the big lad" football, because most of the Copa Libertadores teams and half the sides in the Spanish and Italian leagues have "Long Ball" as their main style, including the ones which show up on your scout report as "Emphasise Individual Play". Can't work it out. And does "Possession Game (DEF)" equal all-out defence? That's a funny definition, if it does.

Other than those small confusions, I'm starting to REALLY like this game now. Played five or six games last night which totally blew my mind. Playing as Villarreal, it was quite a jolt to go from nice slow opening games against the also-rans of La Liga (Malaga, Zaragoza etc) into the Europa League. Away at Porto we got stuffed 4-1, after going 3-0 down in the first half hour to a mindboggling early barrage from Porto, who were playing the best and most intelligent football I've EVER seen from a computer game. Seriously, it was unbelievable. Made PES5 look like a total piece of crap. No cheap computer goals or cheating AI, just sheer brilliant football. We got it together and matched them for skill in the second half, but after scoring one, our comeback collapsed when they got a lucky deflection on a counter to make it four. After that my players just looked like they wanted to go home, and the game sort of petered out with Porto dropping back to sit on their lead, and Villarreal depressed and demoralised. Amazing stuff.

Press select in the gameplan, not the management edit bit, the bit where you move your players about. This will bring up a menu with help, look for "what do the strategies do" or something like that, it explains all. But anyway from what I remember "long ball" keeps a tight back line to win back possession and play the ball forward.

What difficulty are you using? I am playing ML on top player with the original ML line up along with these stupid wonder kids you get given and am finding it very easy. The AI is tame at best, I beat Sunderland at home in the cup 2 - 0 and they had 3 shots altogether with just 1 on target, that team has very good stats far better than mine. I then went and played Arsenal away in the next - round and got beat 1 - 0, the goal was a corner and also about the only shot on target. I had 69% possession... Against Arsenal.... At the (fake)Emirates.

How on earth are you doing that? been struggling like mad with Feyenoord? Settings? Something isn't right here!

The game should come with indepth insructions about tactics and also emphasise how improtant they are to how the gane plays.

Most PES games have needed a lot of setting up of your team before you can get a style of play you like, but in this one its much more important.

I think there will have been a lot of people trying the game with the default tactics and wondering why there wasnt anyone in the box and why wingers aren't appearing on the wings and a small, but sizable proportion would have given up and went back to Fifa.

The game is very good, but you really need to persist with it to get over the steep learning curve and to understand the tactics. I have been playing the game since it was released and mostly averaging about 3 games a day and it wasnt until playing about 8 games on each of the last two nights that I started playing football how I wanted to from playing on Top Player from the start.

The games not out here but i found the demo was easy on top player.

I think ppl over complicate their game with all the different button combos.

I play on top player like always only way to learn the game.
I only use hold down x to tackle which they said had changed which it hasnt you just have to let go when u get nearer the player thats all.
I use x to pass
triangle throughball
sprint whore
and shoot.
This is the first game i stopped using the dpad because of the 360 movement and passing.

I am old school ISS but it still works like also and proud to have never used a trick button ever.

What I did was put all the options at the 'Team Style' menu on '10' and each game I change the values accordingly until I finally found the right combination and now my team plays the way I want it to play (there's always room for improvement though).

You sound a bit like me. I've never used the 1-2 button in any PES game. Just never really needed to (not that I'm all that amazing) so it just never comes into my game. :) Tricks buttons? I have no idea of either. Apart from the old school R2 tap stepovers and then lose possession while in the middle of them.

wow Konami fixed MLO 3x own goal exploit, no cash for it from now on

excellent :D now we can have proper Competition in MLO

I play with 2 of the wunderkind CBs, Ruskin & Gierson at the back. Use a 10 for the back line setting and push the SB's forward.
Use Jaric or Dodo as a DMF in my half of the halfway circle with Castolo at RMF, one of the kiddies as a LMF and either Shimzu or Minanda at the tip of the spear as a AMF.
Play a SS just infront and to the left of the AMF and Schwarz as CF in the box.
Use offensive possession as the strategy, play reasonably wide on the sliders with quite high pressing.

I play quick passes, often not altering body position too much unless there is alot of space to really pick out a pass. Just work my way up the field like this, if under pressure knock it back to defense and start again.
Most of my games are played in the opponents half with alot of possession in thier final third, when they get the ball and break clean it up with the DMF and start passing my way back to the goal.

I am quite surprised how easy it is to be honest, in past PES's Ii would labour for a god few seasons beffore getting promotion, I am very confident of doing it in the first with this game, only 3 points out of a promo spot and just 1 lose on the table which was when I was geting the team sorted. Since I have the team setup I like I have been winning most games 1 or 2 nil, with very little threat from the opposing team.

Wait a second! Your playing in division 2 against Wodegide Town and co? Why should it be impossible then?

You beat Sunderland in the Cup and dominated vs Arsenal? Most big teams are shit in the cup apart from the odd one taking it seriously  Wouldn't read too much into that, Big also tend to disrespect you and play mixed/weakend teams. I mean in my ML Ajax are head and shoulders better than every team int he league but still got knocked out int he first round of the cup to a minnow, they couldn't be fucked :) i got draws and the odd win out of Barca/Madrid last year even with Malaga and Cluj (in a custom ML)

I think you should just try and enjoy winning with the team you have atm until you get promoted and start finding life tough! If you play well enough, sort out your team and get some confidence you should win! The game dosen't cheat badly like PES 6 or other football games which the AI almost have their own personal ref!

You are playing vs a computer at the end of the day, it shouldn't be impossible for you to do well in division 2 with the default players who are on a part, if not better than most of the Default Division 2 teams! Add the wonderkids, you have a top team for your league. I think you used to the AI playing unrealistically relentless football and cheating badly against you! So anything other than the CPU playing godlike is seen as easy!

The challenge of this game is how teams tactics vary and they aren't as aggressive, good every match so it keeps you guessing.

All in all your just playing well, playing good football your players are happy, well done! Just enjoy it! I don't think the AI is dull or repetitive at all ( i would've seen that, trust me)

I guess you're either a PES superstar or you're using tactics which confound the CPU. Do your games look realistic in terms of the actual play?

I'm using Top Player, and everything's pretty sweet at the moment. Before I moved up to Top Player, I had 60-70% possession in every game even when I lost, and it was a similar story to what you describe. I'm pretty happy with how things are right now - I have between 45 and 60% possession in an average game, which is about right for a good-but-not-amazing passing side like Villarreal. I could still have 65% possession every game if I sat back and passed around the backline, but I lose the ball more easily now when I come forward.

I'm also playing 30 minute games, which is great. There's a certain amount of scripted "throttling" on 30 minute games to stop every match ending 9-7 or something - you (and the CPU) are artificially stopped from scoring too many goals, but it's done quite subtly with unlucky bounces and little tugs from behind and stuff like that, rather than the kind of obvious cheating AI we've seen in the past. Feels very natural the way you have to keep working and not everything comes off for you - there is a certain amount of luck in real football after all - but if you do something absolutely perfectly then you will be rewarded. It doesn't cramp your style or get frustrating, it actually makes the whole thing feel more real and less arcadey. Last six games ended 0-0, 2-1, 2-0, 1-1, 3-2 and 1-4. No problems there.

I think I'd find Top Player easy if I was playing as Barcelona, but then I guess Barcelona find most games quite easy. Villarreal are a pretty good team to play with - they're not world-beaters but they're a nice passing side with a great tricky winger in Santi Cazorla, and I usually play Rossi alone up front, so when he keeps dropping deep or going out wide as centre forwards do in this game, it looks realistic (he does that in real life). I've been dominating against Malaga or Levante, struggled to a low-score draw against the more physical approach of Athletic Bilbao, and got outplayed away at Porto. Often I find the opposition has one really good player who's hard to handle, but Porto's very attacking approach and fast dribbly wingers made my defence look slow and old (especially as it was one of those games where almost the whole squad's on a downer, and I had to play two of my back four plus the goalie on down arrows).

No idea why you're finding it so easy. Are you lapsing into "computer game" football rather than "real" football? Accidentally or deliberately over-exploiting the green zone bug? I'm not casting aspersions, I'm just trying to think why that might be happening.

Playing this game when tired is not something I recommend!

Yesterday, I got about 4 hours sleep, was at work at 8am until 5pm and it was busier than usual, then I went to the gym at 6:30 for an hour and tried playing some PES when I got home...

I tried playing some MLO - won my first 4 games and played pretty well, but then didn't win another game... Lost loads of matches (including one 6-1 in which Thierry Henry scored 5 goals against me...), couldn't create a thing, and couldn't defend for shit.

When I'm wide awake and focussed, the football just seems to flow naturally to me, and the goals come steadily and things like dribbling are almost instinctive - when you are not "in the zone", the game is such hard work, with almost everything needing thought and being a struggle...

Some of the people online play bullshit football though, at times it's as bad as assisted FIFA for the ping-pong crap!

Had a good start to my MLO. First game was a bit of a bore against a side in D4 and clearly better than me, with the likes of Kalou, Okaka and Lavezzi heading the attack. Ended 0-0 and we were largely outplayed (he hit the bar twice). New signing Letsholonyane at DMF was good though, if only to have his name stretched across the whole pitch when defending. Heh.

Second game we won, 1-0. Was quite a tight game and could have gone either way really but new signing Rudolf up front got the only goal with the long named DMF having another stormer (recommend him). Also signed an AMF called Djemshav before this match who has the Passer, PK Taker and Roulette Skills cards. He looked good on the ball, he also has an 8 rating for weaker foot so he's a threat on both sides on down the middle.

Third match I played just now and managed to sneak a 2-1 win after leading twice. Early goal from the legend that is Espimas, on the end of a Djemshav t-ball. Then I pressed the wrong button at the back following a low cross and Ruskin turned it into his own net. Was thinking at this point that he'd take the game, with Salvio running riot for him. But I got the winner towards the end. Took courage to bring off Rudolf as he was most likely to score but was in poor form and brought on Castolo. He got the ball in space on the edge of the box and fired low into the corner to make it 2-1.

Enjoying this mode, but it is distracting me from college work. Going to make a few more signings now, probably a partner for the tricky SS Rudolf. Neither Gutierrez or Ordaz have really done anything in the 3 matches.

main thing is which i like none of these gamers and idiots playing this stupid football has forced me to play unrealistic football to counter their tactics!

You can beat anyone playing good football which is the main thing, these fools will always be around online!
