Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well I wouldn't go that far really.

One of my earlier footballing memories was Tony Yeboah's goal vs Liverpool. For me it was just the perfect combination of pretty much everything, the timing of the goal was important, the commentator at the time was pretty much awesome and the celebration was nifty.

That probably set it off, ever since then I've had a fascination with goals going in off the post/bar, with the holy grail being shots that hit the bar twice, preferrably going in as well. This is something that Yeboah did twice and I have struggled to find another goal since that has even gotten close to this.

So yeah, I have a full on knob on for that Yeboah goal, particularly because it is beyond a ball ache to find online with the original commentary. There's a version I've found a few times on youtube with the song spaceman plastered over the top of it, which is weird.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I think Konami do owe the fans something. Ive followed this series for years and years and have spent a lot of money on the franchise like so many other people on here..even the crap versions e.g 2008 ...so don't they at least owe the fans a decent football game with a little bit of effort instead of essentially re-badging the same game (after this demo slightly worse) and charging us £30 + ..my thoughts anyway

Thank you. My opinion is that some people are seeing PES 2009 as good because of PES 2008. That game can make many games look brilliant. The way I see PES 2009 is like this: Building a car that runs smoothly and great (Pre PES 2008), then take off the wheels (PES 2008), then put cheaper wheels back on (PES 2009), and saying "Yes, it's astep in the right direction! Good job Konami":EASY: So now we're back to square one, if that. Perhaps square 0 or -1.

What's really shocking is that it's Konami. I remember playing PES on my PS2 and thinking about how greta PES will be in next gen. I can't believe that some here find it so hard that we criticize PES 09! Because some of us have unfavorable opinions and feel very let down we get labeled. Unreal!

I think that is like the third or fourth analogy you've come up with that is so narrow minded it's stunning.

If you're going to come up with burns then it is an absolute necessity that you make sure that it wouldn't still be valid if you swapped PES with Fifa.

Narrow minded? How? You gonna argue the physics, the way a player runs? The ball thump sound? Overall audio and look? and responsiveness compared to previous PES'???? That's all plain to see and hear. It's not even opinion!!!! Put PES 5 next to PES 2009 and have alook! :R1

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well actually it was more me being flabbergasted at how you can say that praising a game due to it's inferior predecessors is a bit daft when you're here advocating a game that should have "the ever improving" added to it's title.

You gonna argue the physics, the way a player runs?

I didn't find this to be half as noticeable in the demo as I did in the videos, I think that's me entering PES mode where I am thinking 2 passes ahead. Either way it didn't infringe on the gameplay to me.

The ball thump sound? Overall audio and look?

One of the previous PES games had a similar ball sound and it didn't bother me then. If you can't tune it out then oh well but, even for someone as obsessive compulsive (one two three step step step) as myself, it's not managed to set off a tick yet.

Also I reckon the actual music, albeit not official, is damn sight better than what it has been previously. It's a bit generic but not exactly the euro-pop assault on the ears that it has previously been.

The look of the game is better, you can't deny that. For one, they changed it.

and responsiveness compared to previous PES'???? That's all plain to see and hear.

What?

This is pretty common for people who can't get used to the change in pace from PES to PES.

I'm awesome however and I was able to stick it on top player from the start and continue my reign of brilliance.

It's not even opinion!!!!

Clearly your extra exclamation marks emphasise the truthiness.

I guess all this cognitive dissonance going on was part of me trying to break through these facts, of sorts, that you have presented to me.

Put PES 5 next to PES 2009 and have alook! :R1

Put Fifa 09 onto a barbecue and get a koala and an aussie and say to the new zealander, kwala on the barbie mate.

I can speak jibberish as well.

I declare Badgerman as a very "articulate" man, and that's no opinion! :p

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

lol semi rickroll'd.

Btw, if you guys think that the ball sound is bad in this one, try playing WE3: Final Version or one of those older ones. It literally sounds like fireworks everytime they kick the ball. Konami has always had a thing with making the ball sound as loudly as possible... makes it really weird when you go back to FIFA afterwards where you hear almost no ball sound.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I've played the demo last night. Must say that it is way better than the demo of last year. PES2008 was the worst PES series that I've ever played. Initially, it was fun, the trouble is that it is extremely easy to score from the flanks after a while you get really fed up. If you have a speed winger the game is already half won. But (with fingers crossed as I do not have Johan Cruyff at my disposal to give the defenders hell),PES2009 maybe different. Played some 6 games and noticed that is now not easy to score with speed alone. Just hope that the full version is not tweaked in this aspect as it is about right. My only grouse is the ball sound. No doubt it sounded better than PES2008 but somehow it still misses the mark. Anyway it is just a small glitch and I am sure a patch will take care of that.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Holy crap,.. did the keeper just parried my penalty? I shot the ball down/centre!!

physics are very OK, could have been better. But they can always be made better and the running isn't as bad as so many people say. Sometimes I ask myself if i'm watching the same demo cuzz it really looks pretty good for a Pesgame, even in 2000 EA was better in that and probably back then already spending more on that. Pes08 included some goofy runnning around. But hey they were all on EPO so...

The ball sound bottered about 3 demo matches and now "I don't hear it anymore"

Whining about the audio? then you should be playing the other game for years cuzz it never was really good
And the look isn't that bad at all, pretty decent for a company that hasn't found his way yet with nextgen hardware...

Responsiveness is OK, pes08 was just way too responsive, were you could make a defence crazy, it's better like this now. And responsiveness is an opinion cuzz this timing is something that can be liked or disliked...

I've given up!!!!!

I checked after 40 hours and it was on 97%, when I checked again an 'error' had occurred!

So, does anyone know if any magazines are going to have a copy of the demo with their next issues and if so which ones and when are they released? I'm in the UK.

Sorry to 'bump' this but does anyone know?

The player details on super close up on the replay mode is superb! The faces might be a little shiny but it might be due to the floodlights. The life-likeness is accurate to say the least.Different sizes in players also adds realism to the game. That touch of blur when zooming in and out is class too.

when is relese date for PES 2009 for PSP !

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I played the PES2009 ps3 demo yesterday. I was satisfied with the game. It's more balanced, no more, or not so common, speeding bullets ripping through an otherwise fast defense.
Miles better than 08 imo.

just my two cents. :))

Oh, no no no... Big mistake.

You cannot at all be satisfied with the game. If you are doing this, you are downright:

a) blind
b) a fanboy
c) stupid
d) a liar

Be prepared for the flood of posts that will label you that.

It is always like this, every year.

The funny thing, though, just like in PES, are the small details:

a) the random users who are always like vultures monitoring this thread, and as soon as someone makes a good comment about PES, they immediately try to make you admit that you are wrong and biased.
b) the fact that people who actually enjoy PES and don't like FIFA will get bashed here, and as such, this time of the pre-season every year, will stop posting here. It's not that they can't face the supposed disgrace that the game has become. It's just that their time has come to play the game, and not waste more time in futile discussions, because it is not other people's opinions that is going to change their point of view - nor do they try to force others into enjoying PES. As such, the thread will have pages full of people criticizing PES. It's funny, yet feels like home

And the big details:

If you go through FIFA's forum, and FIFA's thread, you'll see that there are shitloads of people (in the same meaning that there are "shitloads of people" in PES threads who hate PES - i.e. a vocal minority) complaining about bugs and misbehaviors all similar to the ones they criticize PES, and the same people who choose to overlook them are the ones who are the first to point them out in PES.

It all boils down to the following, hard, truth:

a) People look for - and get - different things from games. Each one to its own. They will not change their opinion because others hammer them every time they can. People can like both games, as well there's people who will only like PES or FIFA. There's no need to defend your opinion to others - I mean, none of us should be as insecure as to feel that they have to justify their tastes to others. Hell, if that'd be the case, you'd be posting on internet forums about girls before dating them. As long as you'll try to defend your opinions, and take what others say personally, you'll just be feeding their ego. There are people who are clearly in this thread for the sole purpose of trolling - and I am not talking about BwA Spectre, who, at least, even though he doesn't like PES this year, is mature enough in his posts to support his reasoning, and respects that people have different opinions than him. Other posts, however, such as the one insulting SaintScott, are simply ridiculous and childish. The poster felt insulted that SaintScott keeps defending PES this year, and insults him back. I can't even begin to describe this reaction... As a friend of mine says (I believe it's a quote from a book or a movie), "I can't fart loud enough to express my opinion".

b) FIFA is a good game. There's no denying it. Technologically speaking, it's on a different level than PES in some areas. This is my opinion. And yet, this doesn't make it a game that I prefer to PES. I've been playing FIFA for a while, as well as the PES09 demo. I started enjoying FIFA for what it was, but then there's these things that bring me out of the whole experience, and make me lose the purpose of playing game after game. I will play it while I'm enjoying it. The bugs most people talk about do not trouble me yet, and I have fun with it for now. I don't see anyone who likes PES coming here and starting calling me names for appreciating FIFA. It is not personal, but we who like PES seem to be the few who understand it.

c) PES is a good game, and if you take it for what it is, you'll enjoy it. I'm having fun with the demo every day, and what can I really say? It's PES, for the good things and for the bad things. Both games have good things about them, and bad things about them. I knew what I was expecting from PES. I am happy with it. I seriously believe that it will keep me hooked longer than FIFA. If someone feels insulted by it, please post.

And, to Kobashi: yes, I do feel that the Become a Legend AI is pretty decent this year. You can play fixed player in the demo and make up your mind about it. For me, it suits me pretty well. It is different than FIFA's - FIFA's BAP AI is like cock-teasing, while PES's one is like fondling  None of them are perfect, but they are good for what they are. FIFA's BAP AI circulates the ball well from one end to the other, then the defense intercepts the ball and its the other team's turn to do the opposite. Sometimes there's the odd shot, but it is frequent to have games where the CPU team doesn't do any shot on goal.

PES's AI is different. It might have more pointless battles between players, and the ball might be stuck in the midfield for a while, but there are more successful attacks and more shots on goal - not goals, mind you.

It is all a matter of taste. None is great.

About those fantastic previews you mentioned, you surely can't be talking about the only preview who bad-mouthed "Become a Legend" because the AI never passed them the ball, and there was no button to do so...

Seriously? Can you trust a preview that says that there's no button to pass the ball back to your player? Do you honestly feel they gave the mode a chance? And as far as I have been experiencing, they do pass me the ball more frequently than any other year, without me asking the ball.

It is only a letdown if you're going to set unreal expectations for it - but then again, so should FIFA's one be. Unless you are pre-determined to praise one game despite its flaws, and criticize another, despite its good points.

Only one week to go.

Best regards,

Paulo Tavares

On what platform???

Ah, sorry, I forgot to use the multi quote function. PS3.

The next issue release dates for magazines would probably do for me as I'm assuming most would have a Pro Evo demo unless there's some sort of licensing/PSN exclusivety agreement.
