OMG WTF

same squads as the demo :? Konami are bunch of fucking lazy retards

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Who would have thought, the demo that was the final build hasn't been edited?

I sent Konami a letter with love hearts and smiley faces asking them to add certain elements into PES2009 but they wrote me back saying this:

"Dearest Customer

THANKS FOR UR MONEY >: D

Thank you for your letter regarding our Pro Evolution Soccer series. After giving much consideration to your suggestions, we have decided to take everything you have said on board, but we shall instead implement it in completely the opposite way.

More licenses you say?

hows about you fuck off, right? you're lucky this hasn't gone down the bog with the rest of the "wish lists." Actually, because of this I'm gonna get Seabass to remove some licenses.

>: D

Perhaps you would like it if we were to fix the bugs in 2008?

Jog on sunshine. Infact, we have added even more bugs, including one where whenever you hit the post you are taken to Nigel Mansell's moustache-mode, where you have to shoot the ball at his stray whiskers before the game resumes, all the while the opposition has entered multi-goal mode where they rack up goals by pressing X butan.

>: DDD

You say that you have found out our dastardly scheme of simply taking PES5 discs and putting stickers on top of them?

You think you can bring us down? We are Konami, we are behind the illuminati, 9/11 and John McCain's presidential campaign. We effectively run the evil in this world.

Good luck getting us to change jajajajajaja

ps thanks for the money again you stupid.

>: D"

It also appeared that they had left some poo in the bottom of the envelope.

Overall I thought that it was kind of unprofessional of them.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Oh, no no no... Big mistake.

You cannot at all be satisfied with the game. If you are doing this, you are downright:

a) blind
b) a fanboy
c) stupid
d) a liar

Be prepared for the flood of posts that will label you that.

It is always like this, every year.

The funny thing, though, just like in PES, are the small details:

a) the random users who are always like vultures monitoring this thread, and as soon as someone makes a good comment about PES, they immediately try to make you admit that you are wrong and biased.
b) the fact that people who actually enjoy PES and don't like FIFA will get bashed here, and as such, this time of the pre-season every year, will stop posting here. It's not that they can't face the supposed disgrace that the game has become. It's just that their time has come to play the game, and not waste more time in futile discussions, because it is not other people's opinions that is going to change their point of view - nor do they try to force others into enjoying PES. As such, the thread will have pages full of people criticizing PES. It's funny, yet feels like home

And the big details:

If you go through FIFA's forum, and FIFA's thread, you'll see that there are shitloads of people (in the same meaning that there are "shitloads of people" in PES threads who hate PES - i.e. a vocal minority) complaining about bugs and misbehaviors all similar to the ones they criticize PES, and the same people who choose to overlook them are the ones who are the first to point them out in PES.

It all boils down to the following, hard, truth:

a) People look for - and get - different things from games. Each one to its own. They will not change their opinion because others hammer them every time they can. People can like both games, as well there's people who will only like PES or FIFA. There's no need to defend your opinion to others - I mean, none of us should be as insecure as to feel that they have to justify their tastes to others. Hell, if that'd be the case, you'd be posting on internet forums about girls before dating them. As long as you'll try to defend your opinions, and take what others say personally, you'll just be feeding their ego. There are people who are clearly in this thread for the sole purpose of trolling - and I am not talking about BwA Spectre, who, at least, even though he doesn't like PES this year, is mature enough in his posts to support his reasoning, and respects that people have different opinions than him. Other posts, however, such as the one insulting SaintScott, are simply ridiculous and childish. The poster felt insulted that SaintScott keeps defending PES this year, and insults him back. I can't even begin to describe this reaction... As a friend of mine says (I believe it's a quote from a book or a movie), "I can't fart loud enough to express my opinion".

b) FIFA is a good game. There's no denying it. Technologically speaking, it's on a different level than PES in some areas. This is my opinion. And yet, this doesn't make it a game that I prefer to PES. I've been playing FIFA for a while, as well as the PES09 demo. I started enjoying FIFA for what it was, but then there's these things that bring me out of the whole experience, and make me lose the purpose of playing game after game. I will play it while I'm enjoying it. The bugs most people talk about do not trouble me yet, and I have fun with it for now. I don't see anyone who likes PES coming here and starting calling me names for appreciating FIFA. It is not personal, but we who like PES seem to be the few who understand it.

c) PES is a good game, and if you take it for what it is, you'll enjoy it. I'm having fun with the demo every day, and what can I really say? It's PES, for the good things and for the bad things. Both games have good things about them, and bad things about them. I knew what I was expecting from PES. I am happy with it. I seriously believe that it will keep me hooked longer than FIFA. If someone feels insulted by it, please post.

And, to Kobashi: yes, I do feel that the Become a Legend AI is pretty decent this year. You can play fixed player in the demo and make up your mind about it. For me, it suits me pretty well. It is different than FIFA's - FIFA's BAP AI is like cock-teasing, while PES's one is like fondling  None of them are perfect, but they are good for what they are. FIFA's BAP AI circulates the ball well from one end to the other, then the defense intercepts the ball and its the other team's turn to do the opposite. Sometimes there's the odd shot, but it is frequent to have games where the CPU team doesn't do any shot on goal.

PES's AI is different. It might have more pointless battles between players, and the ball might be stuck in the midfield for a while, but there are more successful attacks and more shots on goal - not goals, mind you.

It is all a matter of taste. None is great.

About those fantastic previews you mentioned, you surely can't be talking about the only preview who bad-mouthed "Become a Legend" because the AI never passed them the ball, and there was no button to do so...

Seriously? Can you trust a preview that says that there's no button to pass the ball back to your player? Do you honestly feel they gave the mode a chance? And as far as I have been experiencing, they do pass me the ball more frequently than any other year, without me asking the ball.

It is only a letdown if you're going to set unreal expectations for it - but then again, so should FIFA's one be. Unless you are pre-determined to praise one game despite its flaws, and criticize another, despite its good points.

Only one week to go.

Best regards,

Paulo Tavares

Wisely spoken!

I like the new demo too, don't care what some noobs think of that, 10 till 5 years ago I had the same discussions with fifa players, back then I knew I was right (playing pro evo back then, it was much better (better gameplay & fun, and playersstats were really making a difference once on the field)). And back then they (mindless main stream media noobs) where still convinced that their fifa2000 was better then the pro evo of the time no matter what you would say...

Maybe a lot of them are just glad that they can crawl back to the beloved fifa cuzz now it's finally playable/enjoyable, and after playing pro evo for couple years they realized that it was right that they got flamed for defending it!!!! and now some of 'em think it's already payback time, but when it IS the best game on all area's (if it ever happens) you can't flame me back (and many others i think) cuzz i'm NO fanboy i'll be playing the game that i enjoy the most.

Like so many said over konami after one bad release, maybe EA should award everyone with MANY copies to make up with the shit that they have been producing for years :SMOKIN: .

But so many things are kind of equal now in both games (see pjft's post if you don't get it) and everyone thinks that they have the right opinion about which is best, and all the others are morons, but the biggest morons are themselves, whichever team(read game) they are rooting for...

If my comments do not apply to you then do not reply to it!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: IMO

Hahaha badgerman you are such a tosser. Please dont stay away from this thread too long man.

I love it I really do. This thread is just easy pickings but it gives me sustinence.

Also a Nigel Mansell moustache mode sounds brilliant to me.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Ah, sorry, I forgot to use the multi quote function. PS3.

The next issue release dates for magazines would probably do for me as I'm assuming most would have a Pro Evo demo unless there's some sort of licensing/PSN exclusivety agreement.

Hm sorry can't help you with that...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Hey Badgerman, I also love those sorts of goals off the bar. I remember scoring a goal on PES5 where I absolutely belted it with Carlos onto the bar, it hit the line, went up and hit the bar again and went in. It didn't backspin or anything, but it just looks so good when that sort of thing happens anyway.

I'm no longer going to talk of or reply to any comments on FIFA in here any more - immature fanboy people are not worth replying to, and some people prefer PES, fair enough. I wish I could enjoy it too.

I think something thing we can all agree on though, is that PES in the near future needs to implement:
1) Proper manual passing
2) At least 16 direction control
3) Much better animations (and more of them would be nice too)
4) More complex AI (for every player - defenders, midfielders and attackers)
5) Better collisions (both player-player, and player-ball collisions)
6) Online modes such as tournaments/leagues you can set up to play friends, 10v10
7) Lower league teams, so any football league team fan can have their team in the game (as a Coventry fan, this is a big thing for me)
8) Revamped Master League (leads on from my last point) with a proper league structure, with cups in the correct formats, realistic player transfers etc. Even for people who support big teams, this would be good for a proper cup experience.

If those things can be implemented, I would be very happy with PES, I really hope next year is the year :)).

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Both games need to implement the majority of those points.

The 16 directional thing for me is such a debilitating factor for me that it makes both games seem dated.

No one should be running with a player and be thinking that their angle of running means that in the next 20 metres they will be tackled and they will be powerless to stop it.

This next-gen malarky is used quite a lot these days just to praise a game. Infact both Fifa and PES need to break free of these limitations that have been in place for more than a decade. Without doing this, neither of them can claim to be some sort of other-worldly simulation that they crave to be.

Also double crossbar goals are the best goals ever.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

The day they adjust master league is the day hell freezes over

I agree on 6 points with you.
I did not agree with point 4 and 7
Of course if they can improve the AI that way it would be nice, but the AI is already on a high level.
Point 7 is simply not needed, but again, if it is there it would be nice.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Point 7 is a massive factor really for some people and I can see why hes put it in. Football is just as much about the smaller teams and the fans too but right now priorities would rely on other aspects of the game before maintaining focus on that inclusion.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

The smaller teams would be good yeah, but it's not like the general football gaming populace helps themselves when they solely use, Brazil, France, Italy, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd, both Milans, Barcelona and so on.

Also I was well behind this when Portsmouth were languishing in Division 1 but now we've just been drawn against AC Milan in the UEFA cup so f u all.

Point 7 not needed, yeah lets just play with the top teams, in fact let's just have the top ten sod the rest they are just middle table fodder anyway.
Infant stuff that, let's just have the top two from each country and cut the ML down a bit, that save seven more time for SB and his merry men.

Football exists outside the glamour of the top clubs you know...

really anoying those peopz who constant play with those topteams...

Nothing better then a good battle with some average teams (always had a good laugh playing anderlecht vs brugge with a mate (those are a bit below average in pes what resulted in lots of midfield battle and missers))

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Actually I'm so awesome at PES that I spent most of my time with 08 beating Barca online with Portsmouth.

Benjani and Utaka had modest stats but played like world beaters, which I thought was quite funny.

I agree that AI is fairly complicated, and it is harder to program for a football game than, say, a shooter.

When I say "more complex AI" I mean that teams should react to the match situation more realistically and make tactical changes if needed.
For example, you are nullifying all their attacks down the wings, they may bring on a big striker and try the long ball, and vice versa.
Teams who are 5-0 down with 20 minutes to play should focus on damage limitation rather than try and go for the 5 goals to get level.
Teams should adjust their tactics throughout your Master League based on the type of players they have and the manager they have (if managers are implemented) as well as playing their real life style offline.
If you are constantly beating centre back in the air they should try and switch markers, same thing for wingers who are getting little success against the full backs, they should try switching.
and it goes on and on...

Those things are pretty important, even if most are fairly small. They would both add to the challenge while getting rid of the biased AI.

And about lower league teams - although they may not be that important to most people to play as, don't you think it would be a good experience to get a fairly poor team in the first round of the cup, and try out your youngsters, having a fairly easy game, or maybe even a tough one, if you have little tricky skilful players and they have big physical players and they play very direct.

Lower leagues are a big part of football, I think they should be included even if they are fake. That said, the Football League license isn't exclusive is it? I remember that in one year didn't FM, FIFA and Virtua Pro Football (which was awful) have it licensed all in the same year? Surely Konami could get it as well as other games?

totally agree on the AI, especially in ML the CPU should make more changes, bringing better or younger talented player faster into the starting 11, and those other AI changes you suggest would indeed add more depth but i think were not there for some time...

edit: but i think when adding all this you should play longer matches (not 10-15 but rather 20-30 min's) so that enjoy more of the depth of "tactical" changes in a match...

Hi Liger.

Thanks for replying.

I'll try not to stray off-topic for long, since this is not the FIFA thread. I'm playing with Sporting Clube de Portugal (my home team). The players are not world-class players by any means. They are better than the other teams, though. It is as you said, still: my team dominates the game, but the opposite team has little or no chances of goal. Mine has a couple more, though, but not many more. I'm playing on the highest level selectable by default (i.e. not Legendary).

About the FIFA improving, PES not, issue.

Nobody is saying that you are wrong. The thing is, the quantity of the improvements is not necessarily correlated to it being a better game for everyone in the end. It's just that.

You say that PES2009 is an improvement from PES2008. I accept that.

I'll also say that FIFA2009 is an improvement over FIFA2008. Fine by me.

When you start claiming that FIFA2009 is an improvement over PES2009, I'll have to refrain from commenting. It is certainly more capable in some areas, while for me and many other people (as much as it hurts some people), PES is much better in other aspects that, for us, matter more.

It is just a matter of taste.

Let's see which lasts longer this year.

Best regards,

Paulo Tavares

I believe it is 4 vs CPU online.

I don't think there has been a confirmation of 4 vs 4.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

just playing the demo again (was bored) and i payed attention to the sound and you could hear the players on the pitch shouting in a full stadium :? WHAT.....THE....FUCK

HAve Konami ever watched a football match? when do you hear Rooney shout "PAAAASS" on Tv? its official....Konami are fucking retarded, and there is no way to turn those sounds off without turning off the crowd noise

seriously konami........just wow, what an awful game...seriously think PES08 was better and that game was awful!! but atleast it was smoother

i buy both footy games every year but for the first time ever i think i am gonna cancel my PES09 pre order...its just not fun to play, releasing the demo was a mistake(for konami) because now i see how poor it is

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

i saw something about it on the movie of the demo i think, i hope there's still gonna be 7vs7 in be a legend online

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

It also appeared that they had left some poo in the bottom of the envelope.

Overall I thought that it was kind of unprofessional of them.

Dammit, you got the poo too ? I thought they'd removed that feature !

Made me laugh anyway, rather a lot. Well worth the effort.

Have to say the whole online thing is beginning to rankle if the rumours are true... it's especially annoying as the only way to find out if online is buggered or not is to take the damn game home and find out the hard way... I am considering

Oh, and cheers to pjft for being the first person on this thread to mention me by name and NOT actually insult me. However, I'm 35 (eek), I can handle it. ;)

And is it just me, or has this thread got a lot less "insulty" since FIFA09 came out ?

I'm absolutely shocked that they haven't revamped the Master League.

What shocks me is that whenever somebody gets to speak to Seabass they never ask him why no changes with masterleague?

In my rare forays online with 08 I did take great joy from beating the usual Milan/Real/Barca/Chelsea online players with Aston Villa. Due to the speed being so high Ashley Young and Agbonlahor ran rings around defences and Konamis lag did the rest.

ps: Playing the demo the other day Rooney smashed in a 25 yarder off the underside of the crossbar - I think it made me do a sex wee.
